Stevie Wonder

Stevie Wonder

Considering the astonishing gifts he has already given us through his music, do we even have the right to expect any more from Stevie Wonder? Maybe, maybe not, but the truth is the artist whose first No. 1 hit came five decades ago with "Fingertips" is in the midst of a creative explosion akin with his greatest years in the 1970's. For his first studio recordings in eight years, Wonder, the rare touring act who can be called genius without qualification, has produced not one but two records, both as distinct in their origin as they are in their intention. To fulfill a promise made to his mother who passed away in 2006, Wonder is making he first foray into gospel music; he's also making an additional record that reflects not only his growing interest in hip-hop but also personal heartbreak stemming from among other things his recent divorce.

I am stating right now, that I am very pro Stevie and was biased in advance that I was going to love the show. I am very familiar with practically all of his music (not just the hits). So, he could have played nothing but a second layer set-list and I would have been thrilled. I can say that he did not disappoint in any way. I did some research on his recent concerts that were not in the "Songs in The Key" format and he was pretty much on point with those sets. All the hits, a few nuggets and then his 'DJ' set before the final jam of Superstition. He had a bit of a cold and he had to drink some of his special concoction, but he made light of it and played to the crowd about it. It did not affect his singing at all. I was just so happy to have finally had the chance to see this genius perform. It was truly like I was hangin' out with an old friend and he was just so masterful at drawing everyone in with his light-hearted humor and positive messaging.

Great night with the living legend. Unexpectedly he sung my favorite song so that made the night even more magical. The screens were very Vivid and I loved being able to valet park at the venue.

The last I saw Stevie perform on stage was 40 years ago and his performance, energy level, voice were just the same now as 40 years ago, if not better. Just concerned about his weight gain, especially now in his golden years...but it sure doesn't affect his his overall entertaining - which in my opinion is the absolute best.

There are very few entertainers who still have the staying power and talent that Stevie Wonder has. Every song in his catalog is a hit and still sounds fresh. If you ever get a chance to see Stevie in concert, DO!!! You won't be disappointed.

The event started 1.5 hours late. This is because Stevie was talking with Leo a 12th grader with terminal cancer. Leo was on stage during the entire concert. This was a very generouse gesture for Stevie. We had a great time partying to all the songs that we listened to while we were creating memories. The venue was good too.

Arriving an hour and forty five minutes late on stage Stevie graced us with his presence and the first thing out of his mouth was "yes im late - so what" thats not to mention all the political rallying he did for most of the concert! I did not pay good money to come watch a political rally! Most of the songs he did he didn't even sing on, it was either an instrumental version or he had some no names come on stage to sing or even worse - made us sing the whole song! I cant tell you how disappointing this is as i have been a Stevie fan since back when i could remember!

I was quite disappointed with the show.Firstly it started over an hour late. There was no one to come forward to atleast explain the delay to the crowd .Some of his songs were sung using a a distorted voice gadget which i found was just a waste. The guest singer did an amazing job in fact to get the crowd excited. He did not sing his all time favorite songs ...I just called to say..I love you.He dragged the sing-a-long sessions with the crowd which again I felt was not necessary. It was a fair event..nothing was spectacular about it.

well.gates opened up 55 minutes late with no explanation.the staff at verizon didn't seem to know what they were doing.so we get in and find a great spot on the lawn and had to listen to poorly sounding and poorly selected crappy classic rock like styx.If you have stevie ,mabye you can play some quality r & b.so this torture went on till the 8:00 show that didn't start till about 9:15 .then we had t listen to how happy stevie was that obama got elected.he also said that"" if you dont like it, fire me.well you already got my 125 bucks..oh yea....the concession stands were a jokealso.they could not put food thru the window.it was sad watching the people behind the counter running around ,bumping into one another and still,,,,, no food.the pizza was a .5 on a 10 scale.I will never be subjected to this unprofessional treatment.the c/d is only 15 bucks. stevie was fair at best.getting the crowd to sing his songs??then brought up a singer from the crowd.he was good but I didn't pay to hear him.somewhere around 11 as stevie was still singing most everyone had enough and left.great job stevie.

Concert was suppose to start at 8:00PM. Stevie does not come on stage until 9:20. Then we hear the faith/political speech. I paid for the music which never came. He sang a bunch of filler songs and at one point brings a guy on stage from the audience to sing for 20 minutes. I definitely didn't buy a ticket for that. It's 10:45 and I have to leave because some of us have to get up and work in the morning. I heard the concert ended shortly after that. I paid a lot of money for my tickets to hear and see Stevie sing his hit songs and he did not deliver. I did not hear one single song of my Stevie favorites. I felt like I had been swindled. Had gone to Eddie Vedder concert the night before. Would rate it 5 stars, very intimate and he sang a great setlist and tickets were cheaper. If I would have known what I was getting with Stevie, I would have gladly gone to a second night of Eddie.

The concert was billed as starting at 8pm. Mr Wonder did not enter the stage until 9:17 pm. There were no warm up acts, no comedians , no anything except piped in music. I drove 2 hrs and was in my seat at 7:45. Mr Wonder, nor anyone affiliated with him or the venue offered any explanation for the lateness of the start of the concert. Mr Wonder made an off hand remark that the media would vilify him for being late and added, " so sue me." Have we become so insignificant to performers and to venues that we are not afforded at least an explanation or apology. My mother taught me better. I would prefer, in the future, start on time and skip the apology.

Stevie Wonder is one of the greatest musical talents of all time. However he was over one hour and fifteen minutes late. The audience was very forgiving, and got an excellent, if uneven concert. Being spontaneous and improvising are good things--a performance should be real not "canned." But at times it seemed unorganized. However, Stevie Wonder is great no matter what. It was nice to see so many children there. People wanted their children and grandchildren to know about his music. There were people of all ages there; his music appeals to everyone.

I was very disappointed. I attended Stevie's concert at Chastain Park in 2008. The concert at Chastain Park was AWESOME. I have not stopped talking about it. I talked about it so much that my sister invited me to the show a Encore Park this year. She was so excited because I raved so much about the Chastain Park 2008 concert. Firstly, the concert at Encore Park started over 1 hour late. The other patrons around my sister and me were getting very inpatient and restless. Nonetheless, I continued to encourage them letting them know that "once Stevie came on stage, it would be well worth the wait." Unfortunately, I was wrong. I thought it was beautiful gesture to have Leon on stage with him; but the concert/show itself was very disappointing.

I am Stevie's biggest fan and have seen him numerous times including his last show in Atlanta. But to come on stage 90 minutes late is inexcusable. From that point on it killed the mood of a wonderful night. Sure, it was a fine show but the magic was not there.

Stevie put on a great show all in all, he had members of the audience come up on stage and perform with him, he had a terminaly ill teen on stage with him the whole time, he had Wednesday's child up on stage to do a rap, did his little prayer thing before starting and had great musicians with him. We had to leave before the end for babysitter reasons but onlyu because they started the show around 9:30pm (1.5 hours late)

The concert was horrible! Without any explanation, he was 1-1/2 hours late in starting. He then talked about his political and racial beliefs, and when looking at his watch, he stated "so I'm late, sue me". A total lack of respect and appreciation for all us fans who put him on that stage. There was a lot of audience singing and he didn't sing many of his well-known hits. The venue has a hard stop at 11pm, so he barely gave a 1-1/2 hour concert, if you want to call it that. I wanted to hear Stevie sing - not the audience, not a man he took out of the audience. I wouldn't see him again if he was playing in my back yard!

This man saw fit to make the people who put him where he is today a nearly three hours; 50 minutes to enter the amphitheatre and another hour and 50 minutes for the show to start. His explanation? He gave a little giggle and made a comment about being "a little late." I will never purchase any Stevie Wonder cd nor see a show and I will share our experience in the coming months. Shame on you, Mr. Wonder! Your show was DREADFUL.

The concert started 90 minutes late and the first 10 minutes were spent with Stevie Wonder preaching about God and racism and Obama. Then he brought one some teenager who has cancer and spent 10 minutes talking about how unfair this situation was and about how was dedicating this concert to this kid. The net is that music was finally played around 10pm. During the concert, he forgot the words to songs on a few occasions and had to start over. He spent far too much time doing sophomoric cat calls with the audience and using electronic voice synthesizers which made his voice sound horrible. He combined 3 or 4 of his best known hits into one medley that lasted less than 5 minutes and then sat and watched as people from the crowd went on stage and sang full versions of his songs. All-in-all, it was the worst concert I have ever been to and I will never consider seeing Stevie Wonder live again.

Stevie was a great entertainer!!! I think what made the show great was Stevie's introduction with Leo. This demonstrated his humility and gift of giving back. He not only satisfied the crowd and made everyones evening but he made a night to remember for a young man who is fighting for his life. I wish all of the entertainers would give back to the community in some way just as Stevie Wonder has done and continues to do.

I guess my negativity starts with the fact I do not think Stevie respected us an audience. We arrived 45 mins. before the concert start time (8 pm) and waited in line, with no explanation, for 35 mins while he completed his warm ups. Once admitted, he was 75 mins late in starting the concert...and of course ending it late. While I understand he was back stage with the young cancer patient, who appeared on stage - I am stil baffled why he was late. Their is no questioning Stevie talent, but I thought his music selection was more for his preference than his paying audience. Much of it was improvised ( or at least seemed to be) - and while I appreciate that artist do not want to always play their old hits - we expect to hear the music we love and recognize.

This was my first concert at the new Verizon Wireless Amphitheater in Alpharetta and it was AMAZING!! After all these years, Stevie Wonder appears to still be having fun! He was energetic, positive, funny, entertaining and involved the audience with sing-a-longs. One of the best concerts I have ever been to. My only complaint would be the "mile hike" from the parking area to the actual venue.

I've attended 5 Christmas concert events and each was something that helped me to remember the blessings of life and carried me through the year to come. It is so awesome to see such a great composer/singer right before your very eyes in complete authentic and humble form. Every year is exciting anticipation of who is going to perform along side him and I yet to be disappointed. The only disapointment is not having the music go on longer! If your thinkig about attending this concert take along childhood friends or the family because you want to have someone beside you to hang onto. Thanks Stevie. Throughout the whole evening I was entertained. If no one knew the songs on this particular album then at times they may have been lost. This was "songs in the key of life" Not Srevie Wonder Greatest Hits... (For those who were upset because he didn't sing "superstitious"). His back ground singers were included and did well giving him time to rest. Indie Arie was ok but could have been involved more even though it wasn't her concert. He started late but the flow of the concert more than made up for it.. BTW nice seats for & 89.00,

I have been a Stevie Wonder fan for as long as I could remember. Seeing him live was a spiritual experience. He performed for close to 4 hours. Not only was the music phenomenal but Stevie was very funny and entertaining. The musicians were monumentally talented and everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves immensely. The music was awesome. Let's get that out of the way. My gripe was that he went really long. He went on stage at 8:30, it was 11:30 and he still wasn't done! This was a Sunday night, I had to be at work the next day at 7:00 am! At 11:45, we left after Another Star, and if you're familiar with the album, there are still 5 more songs after! The show would've been perfectly timed had Stevie just played his album non-stop, however he played tributes to other songs (not his) and had a bit of comedy in the middle of one song. This took around 30 minutes, time that could've made the show shorter. Don't get me wrong, fantastic show, just a little long.

This was a once in a lifetime event that I will never forget. Though the arena was packed, it felt like an intimate setting, with Stevie sharing both silliness and heartfelt emotions. His message of love gave me a spiritual feeling that I have rarely felt in church. The music was astounding! His voice is in fine form and he shared his talents on keyboards, harmonica and an instrument I was unfamiliar with, a Marcodi Harpejji. He is truly a musical genius and an ambassador of love and compassion.

Every person present at the Oracle Arena on the night of December the 5th in 2014 received quite a treat - truly a spectacle to behold! Personally, I was under the impression that Wonder would perform small snippets and bits of the songs that ultimately created his finest "Magnum Opus" work, IMO... however I was pleasantly surprised to have my expectations met much higher than intended. Stevie played the entire album from start to finish, omitting NOTHING and granting a short 15-min. intermission, a welcome bathroom break if there ever was one. All in all, the show was mesmerizing. People sang along to what they knew and gazed profusely upon songs they haven't heard for many years, perhaps. We danced, sang, cried, laughed, loved, represented and had one hell of a fun night out with Not-so-little Stevie Wonder, genius performer and possessing the best memory ever (I mean... there were roughly forty other musicians on stage with him most of the time - and he knew EVERY NAME lol) and the most humble and gracious spirit. He acted upon political ventures (Ferguson race-riots, monetary gain, negative media attention, etc.) with humility and assertiveness, yet never lost his optimism or will to entertain and inspire the fine people of Oakland to rise up and love one another. Like he sang to us all, "This world was made for ALL men!" God bless you, Stevie. <3 My mother, God rest her soul, would've LOVED this performance... she always said she wanted to see Stevie Wonder live. I attended not just for myself, but for the both of us. R.I.P. Mama!

What a night! From start to finish. It was an unforgettable night. Other than a late start (30 minutes), there were no complaints. A concert devoted to one classic, masterful album was inspired. The audience knew the songs and truly appreciated the arrangements which were faithful to the originals. The stage was filled with musicians and vocalists. Many of the numbers followed their placement on the album which was an added treat. It was a wonderful night capped off with an encore of other Stevie Wonder hits.

This show was a Top 10 *life* experience, everything about it was beyond fantastic. Stevie was incredible in every single way possible, and his band were incredible. It was nice to hear an artist play an entire record, not just "the hits" the entire night to please the audience. Yes, he ended up playing a little "medley" of hits but it was a stunning ending to the night after hearing 'Songs of the Key of Life' in its entirely and a fantastic "Superstition". The highlights were "Sir Duke", "As", "Joy Inside My Tears" and "Pastime Paradise".

Went to Stevie Wonder's concert in Atlanta. It as tremendous. Steve entertained us for 3.5 hours. Not only is he an excellent singer but he plays so many instruments. This is a family friendly concert. There was definitely a spirit of excellence. Stevie really knows how to connect with his audience. Even though he has been on a long tour, Stevie sang and performed just like it was his first time doing it! You will enjoy this concert.

Crossed another great one off my Bucket List! Took my mom and we enjoyed a 2 hour sound check from our room. But the concert...Amazing! Stevie was funny & uplifting! Sang the hits but missed my fave Isn't She Lovely. He played DJ Chick Chick Boom and played tribute to some performers who had passed away...Prince, David Bowie, Natalie Cole, BB King, and Whitney Houston. But, a magical night it was indeed. Great outdoor venue in South Lake Tahoe. Couldn't have gone better unless he simply kept singing!

This was the first time that my husband & I have ever attended a Stevie Wonder concert and it won't be our last. He put on an incredible concert!!! The concert started on Tuesday night and ended after 12 the next day. I don't think he wanted to leave the stage and we were all fine with that. Stevie performed with a full symphony behind him that sounded awesome. He even treated us to a duet with Andra Day!!!! He truly gave us more than our money's worth at this concert!

He was onstage over 3 hours. Even though it was the last night of his tour he was energetic & enthusiastic. I had stopped going to concerts as I felt like they were usually overpriced & most of the content was canned or pre - recorded, but I would go see Stevie Wonder again any time.

When I purchased my 4 tickets at $175 a piece to see this legend. I thought this will be a great concert, all his hits will be played. It was a Tuesday night, he came right out at 8:00 pm with his enormous ensemble. Great musician presence on the stage. There were 2 smaller screens up for distant people to view. Small! At MSG? He played one recognizable song in the first half. Took a 15 minute intermission. At this point , 1 of my friends left. Again, the concert just dragged. He rotated singers from his band to take center stage. By 11 pm I had enough, we left. I noticed the crowd was thinning out a bit. I heard that at 11:45 he started playing all of his hits into a long medley. The show ended at 12:30 ! Stevie did a lot of talking about current issues, He said a few negative things about the police force. Not cool. Anyway, we were disappointed. There's much better performers out there that are gracious to the crowds.

It was was an amazing show featuring a live band and the timesless music Stevie Wonder. His back-up singers had great voices also. His band never misses a beat. There were several members from Detroit. The real Motown.

The man, the myth, the legend! Stevie Wonder is considered one of the greatest entertainers of all time, and he proved it from the moment he walked out on stage. Between him, his band, and his backup singers, the entire show was amazing. I didn't get to see Michael Jackson in concert, nor did I ever see Michael Jordan play basketball, but I got to see Stevie Wonder in concert!

Stevie is amazing. One would think that as you age your voice is affected...Stevie still has it! He engaged the audience from the beginning with a personal story dealing with NC and continued to engage throughout the very entertaining performance. His back up musicians were some of the finest I've seen, especially the horn players! He also is a very genuine and kind person and supports the arts in schools, which hits home for me because I am a music teacher! Highly recommended.

I knew immediately I was in the presence of a legend and master showman. He reached out to Paris, spoke from the heart and shared his heart throughout unashamedly. I knew he was good in concert but it had been 30 years since I had seen him. Be sure you are aware that this is a tour featuring his double album Songs in the Key of Life. He sings every song so if you're not familiar with it or are not expecting it, you will be disappointed for sure. I doubt Stevie or the audience would ever hold up to nonstop hits. The atmosphere is electric when he starts all the familiar ones. His band is second to none with 4 drummers, 3 sax, trombone, 3 guitarists, 2 trumpets and a 10 string orchestra. Not to mention 2 keyboard players besides Stevie. He has 6 backup singers who could cut their own albums as they are featured with their own song choice. One of them did a song from The Preacher's wife and did every bit as good as Whitney. That took a lot just for me to say. Then he brings out a small choir. You do not want to miss this. Do what you have to to get there. We don't know when and if he will tour again. He went 3 hours 40 minutes from beginning to us walking out after encore. Only stopped once for about a 20 minute intermission.

My wife and I had waited to see Stevie Wonder for over 40 years. Got the best tickets I could sitting in the 7th row in front of the stage...and What a BLAST we had!!! The talent of the various artists that blended into the Songs in the Key of Life Tapestry was incredible. The musicians were AWESOME!!! Stevie's voice and music has not lost a step and his connecting to his audience made us feel like part of the show.. We sang the whole night long and to my surprise we WOKE UP SINGING THE ENTIRE SUNDAY AFTER THE SHOW!!!! OMG!!! This by far the BEST CONCERT WE HAVE EVER SEEN....and we have seen quite a few. Thanks to Ticketmaster for the easy ability to get those tickets,...although quite expensive...it was totally worth it...TO SEE THE SPARKLE IN MY WIFE'S EYES... FOR HER 60TH B-DAY PRESENT!!! Thank you sooo much!!!

What an absolutely unforgettable night. Stevie's still got it...and then some! His voice sounded better than ever, he laughed and joked with the crowd, and he made the whole thing very interactive. Imagine thousands of people singing 3 part harmony. It was incredible. Not to mention the gorgeous weather and the perfect view. I can't imagine anything that would have made the night more magical than it already was. Thank you, Stevie! I love you!

Simply amazing!! Stevie and his band took the stage at 8:35pm, and with only a 25 minute intermission, played until after midnight! With two keyboard players, two drummers, two percussionists, about 12 singers, a 10 piece orchestra, a 6 piece horn section, two guitars and a bass player, the band delivered a massive palette of sounds. After playing the entire "Songs in the Key of Life" collection, the band did an encore of another 5 or 6 tunes, that included Superstition, Happy Birthday, I Just Called To Say I Love You, among others. To top it off, he was joined by Queen Latifa and other guest musicians during the encore. Truly a gifted man, Stevie mesmerized the audience with his precise fingers and unmatched vocal prowess! Can't wait to see him perform again.

I knew it would be amazing to see Stevie live, but was NOT prepared for how wonderful. Cannot wait to see him again --- praying that happens. He is so lovely to hear talk - shares stories from his life - sings like nobody's business - you can't help but bop all over to everything he performs. Concerts don't get any better than this and I have been to so many.

He has so much awesome music but spent a large portion of his concert playing Stevie the DJ and playing other music. It was fun but I went there to see him and hear his music. The few songs that he did play of his own were very good. The concert was too short as well. When I go to concerts I want to hear the artist play their music
