Had the luckiest opportunity to meet him backstage. Really a cool guy. He was fighting a cold but sounded really great. The band and singers were tight.

Last night I was in the presence of one of the music industries timeless voices. Michael McDonald still has the chops to bring all the favorites from his solo years as well as the many songs he did with the Doobie Brothers. With special guest joining him on stage was his wife Amy Holland. Michael mentioned several times that when you're his age it's not as easy as it used to be on stage, but you couldn't tell it at all. I have had the pleasure to see him in concert 3 times over the year and he never fails to please and entertain.

I enjoyed Boz Skaggs as much or more than Michael McDonald, and I didn't expect to! They were both very good and the acoustics in the hall were great!

We enjoyed this show a lot. Having never been to Ruth Eckard Hall we didn't know what to expect. What a great venue for a concert, the acoustics were phenomenal. Boz started the show and got the crowd warmed up and Michael rocked the house. He mixed in old standards with some lesser known tunes but the crowd was warm and receptive to all songs. Both acts had female singers that were stars by themselves, great voices that really brought out the best of the bands. It was a pricey concert but well worth it.

I thought that both of these performers and their back up bands did a terrific job. They played all their best known hits as well as mixing in some Motown and Blues. They played for a very decent amount of time (great value for the ticket price). The female drummer/singer in Michael McDonalds band was amazing as was the lead female backup singer in Boz Scaggs band. I would attend again if this show were to be repeated. The sound was good, too.

The good one was Boz Scaggs. His band was superb. His keyboard man played the Hammond the way it should be played. The drummer was smooth and rythmic. Boz's voice was charismatic. If ony he would have been the whole show. Then came Michael McDonald. The sound was painful. There is simply no excuse for the poor quality of the sound staging. The drummer was a banger (but great vocalist). I never heard the keyboards and the sax man couldn't play five seconds without running out of breath - he really needs to retire. And McDonald couln't get off his but. He sat on his seat the whole concert. I didn't understand a word of his lyrics even though I know the songs by heart. A lot of empty seats by the end of the program!

Outstanding venue with two artists who really cared about putting on a show. They showed up on time, the sound quality was excellent and they mixed in the songs we wanted to hear along with a few extras. Boz Skagg's backup singer was incredible. I saw Steely Dan a few weeks ago at the Bob Carr. Steely Dan was excellent, but Bob Carr doesn't come close to Ruth Eckerd Hall as a venue. I was as impressed with the venue as I was the acts. Too bad they didn't do two nights at Ruth Eckerd, I would have bought another ticket to do that again. If you like this kind of stuff, this is the kind of stuff you're going to like.

Boz Scaggs was extremely smooth and enjoyable. The volume was perfect. The female singer was Minnie Ripperton plus and better than any "idol" winner. Only negative was the "Lido Shuffle" something was not coming through properly and I believe it was equipment related or the sound guys. Michael McDonald was too loud, the drummer was "over the top" again and needs to know when to be noticed instead of all the time. Not a skill thing - very good drummer. Way too many songs of other artists being covered. I thought I was listening to Tina Turner or Carly Simon. I have attended so many events where the music is so loud that it is distorted and painful. With Journey being the worst at a 10 (at REH) MM was at least a 7. Boz was a perfect 5.

I was a little disappointed in Boz Skaggs. Although he played all his hits and his band was proficient it was not as good as when I saw him previously. His female singer was the highlight of his set. McDonald's voice was as good as ever and his band was spot on. His female drummer was outstanding. Very good show.

We had a gret time. I loved the bluesy stuff that Boz Scaggs did. Michael MicDonald was great, wish he would have played a little bit more motown. The ballad that he did "you don't know me" brought me to tears.

What a great show. Every detail was perfect. Boz Scaggs sounded better than ever with a band and sound so smooth I was sure I was dreaming - or listening to the original albumn. Michael McDonald followed with a show that continued the truly magnificant voice and sound we hoped for. The female singers that accompanied both Mr. Scaggs and Mr. McDonald had such beautiful big voices I plan to look for their CDs. Each musician play their instrument(s) at the highest level possible. Everyone in each set were blended so well together that it created that sound and vibration that make music touch well beyond the ears and straight to the soul. Thank you to all those who made this exceptional experience possible.

This is the second time I've seen Boz Scaggs. Both were good but I liked last night's show better. The band was terrific and the girl that sang backup was excellent. McDonald was OK but just seemed to be going through the motions. We left before his encore.

Boz Scaggs still has a great voice....but it was his back-up singer that held him up and put the enthusiam into his venue. He finally showed off his voice on his last song but we felt his performance was just ok. Michael McDonald came out and didn't stop ! High energy concert and the man can still sing and play the keyboards. He brought the house down! The theatre was extremely warm and people were complaining on the lack of air conditioning. Might have been the storms....but come on Ruth Eckerd...this is Florida and you know what the weather can be like. The concert hall was uncomfortable with sporadic air conditioning.

When will sound men understand that the listener , the people who pay there money to hear an artist doesn't want to hear the kick drum as the main artist. The band was great but you could not here the lead vocalist,Michael singing his great songs. The kick drum has become the artist. If the song was a Ballard or uptempo rock driven song , there was the kick drum as the lead instrument, not the singer. How many sound men think that the listener has paid to come to an evening of kick drum ! I have all of Michael's cds and I can't find one song that features the kick drum. That the listener has paid for a M McDonald iTunes download to hear the kick. Someone needs to tell the sound man what we want in a live concert. I have been in a classic rock and soul band for 30 years now. I'm one of the lead singers, guitar player and run FOH and monitors from the stage. I know what live music should sound like. I mic all instruments but the kick is not the lead. Does any one else hear what I hear at a concert ??

What a great show. Sang some of my favorites. Patti La Belle duet, and some Doobie Bros. stuff that he was so famous for, and some of his own stuff as well. I am so happy that I went. The theater was lovely, not a bad seat in the house. His voice was as great as ever. Like I said before, I am so happy that I went. Marc Cohn was there too, and it was great to hear his old stuff too. Thanks Micheal for coming to Oakland

I was impressed with how good Michael McDonald is on piano. It was nice to hear a handful of his old hits. The band was a bit old and stale which was accentuated by the voice and energy of the young man from St. Louis who stole the show singing "What's Going On and Taking it to the Streets". I am sure his wife is a sweet lady but she does not belong on stage anymore as a back up singer. He played a lot of songs off his new album which were average at best and I would have preferred a couple more Doobie Brothers hits in their place in the set list. Sound quality was good, but the lighting looked like a high school play that couldn't even keep time with the music. I get Michael was raised here in St. Louis, but I personally found the concert to be a bit too preachy. Once again, I just wanted to enjoy a nice night out of entertainment without having a message repeatedly thrown at me. If I want that, I'll save my ticket price and go to church.

Michael McDonald still has a powerful, soulful voice. He is now backed by his wife and a group of talented musicians. An opening by Marc Cohn, along with several collaborations, made the evening very special. The last time I saw Michael, he did three encores and this time there was only one. However, the encore lasted for several songs. :-)

The State Theatre is a wonderfully intimate venue and Michael shared with the audience his inspiration behind some of his new material. His wife, whom he revealed as one of his backup singers, performed a duet much to the delight of the audience. He played his solo standards as well as some classic Doobie Brothers tunes. Good show and I d pay to see him and his amazing band again.

The Boz was just as I hoped. Timeless rock. And Michael was ageless. Loved his new stuff. My friend and I agree; he's a margarita and rock on a Friday night; blues and gospel with coffee and the NYT on Sunday's and martinis with jazz on a Saturday afternoon.

This concert was SO MUCH FUN! America was top notch. They did all their hits, and then some. Told great stories, and continuously thanked the audience for all our support over the years. You could tell the whole band was having a blast. I would see them again in a heart beat! Michael McDonald was spot on too. Gave a shout out to the world getting along better, and then went into.... "What the World Needs Now." Did a lot of his hits with the Doobie Bros. He had 2 surprise guests! Like I said SO MUCH FUN! Run, don't hide to see this tour, you WILL NOT be disappointed!!

The sound was mixed so poorly that we left after the fifth Michael McDonald song. Couldn't hear him sing. The instruments were so loud we couldn't hear his voice so there was no point in staying. Several others left when we did. It was the same for Boz Scaggs but not as bad. We're going to think twice before going to this venue again.

Boz and McDonald were just fantastic. Lots of great music and well run concert. This was my first show at the Cannery and I was unaware that it was outdoors. I am grateful that it was on the eastside of the casino as it was a 100 degree day. I don't know if I missed the statement that it was an outdoor event or not. I probably would not have gotten tickets knowing I would be outside. Michael McDonald was not bad, good band backing him, but I guess I am more of a Doobie Brothers fan than strictly Michael McDonald. It was a large crowd and the majority of people seemed to really enjoy it but I was surprised an hour in when he said thank you and good night, the number of people that left, he did do about another half hour of encore. I guess they were tired of being outside too.

Great show at Montalvo, Dylan McDonald, Micheal's son opened the show which made it even more quaint and felt like family. Renee the backup vocalist repeated what she had done at our other Micheal mcDonald show, she worked her way to our end of the stage and got our attention(my wife and I) she then blew several kisses directly at my wife. Showing her love for a second time. By the way my wife is severely disabled with Multiple Sclerosis. How amazing was she remembered us from 2 years ago at the Mountain Winery show.

Musicians that were together were excellent and overall the music and singing was very good, but after 1 hour they walked off stage to end the concert. Came back for encore and played about 20-25 minutes more ... and that was it. I really think Michael McDonald needed a break after 60 minutes because he was sitting down the whole time, but sweating profusely. His shirt and pants were soaked, as was his hair. He seemed out of shape and I think the tour he is on is really wearing on him. Great to see him, but I can't recommend for someone to pay the money we paid for 80-85 minutes.

35 years and still Rockin at the highest level. TOTO sounds great and puts on such a great show!! Solid Rhythm section with addition of Shannon Forrest and David Hungate, but Luke, Paich, Williams, and Porcaro were stunning! This is a very intimate venue that unfortunately has theatre seating throughout, but they still got everyone up and rocking midway through the set. 35th Anniversary BluRay is awesome, but this band LIVE is an absolute treat to witness, a must see and hear!!! Oh Yea, Michael McDonald played also. He was solid and entertaining, but had a tough time holding the energy level that was laid down by TOTO. The combined encore was a great culmination to a fantastic evening. Keep up the great work guys, loved it.

Toto. What can I say. I was born in 78, so my first music memories include Toto. I was overwhelmed by the soulfulness, the composition, the greatness of this band. It felt like celebration with friends. You just have to be present. It was a once in a lifetime show that is etched in my memory forever. Joseph Williams' vocals are of the purest form. The concert began with Toto. They were amazing. Steve Lukather is beyond talented on vocals and guitar. Joseph Williams rocked us out on vocals and some smooth dance moves along with the background singers. The entire band was spectacular!! Michael McDonald was not on his A game. His voice was cracking the entire time. I didn't recognize some of the songs immediately due to his lagging vocals. I understand musicians run their voice ragged, but it was so bad that we left before the end of the show. I wish Toto could have played the entire time. Great show! Unfortunately the show in Omaha was the last in this tour, but when and if they return this is a must see. The ensemble from Belgium was outstanding. They are not only top notch musicians and vocalist but engaging as well. They encourage participation and had the crowd not only dancing in their seats but in the aisles and on the stage! And then if that wasn't enough we were serenaded by legends of American music. Michael McDonald, Kenny Loggins, the Pointer Sisters, Niles Rogers and Chic just to name a few. All at one show!!! I bought the tickets with great anticipation. I'd wanted to see Michael McDonald for ages. I love his voice. I even forgot that Boz Scaggs was touring with him. I knew some BS's songs prior to the concert. I realized I knew more than I thought. His voice is still as good and strong as it was in the 70s. I was blown away when he sang, even had spontaneous tears when he sang 'Look What You've Done to Me'. I believe he ended with Lido Shuffle and the whole place was singing right along with him. High Energy! There was a short break and Michael McDonald took the stage. He was pretty low key, but the music was good. My only complaint was that he let the backup singers do a lot of the singing--especially with Ain't No Mountain High Enough. I love him singing that song and was the main reason I went to the concert. That said, the encore included 4 songs that Michael and Boz both sang, and it was amazing!

I was so impressed with the work ethic, the smoothness of the performances, the sound system, the professionalism of both artists. The support group of singers and band members was first class.

Music was excellent from both. It was a really hot and humid night and the South Shore Music Circus is basically under a tent. There was no ventilation and you just sat and sweated. The least they could have done was set up a couple of fans, but there was nothing. The heat made it difficult to enjow the show.

Boz Skaggs was great, Michael's set was great, but his voice has little punch left. I wish I could have seen Michael perform this set 10 years ago. During the Skaggs portion of the show, Boz gave way to one of his background singers for her own "Jennifer Hudson - American Idol" moment, she was great, however this should have been offered as an opening act, NOT in the middle of the show. I believe the rules of the show were imposed by the artist, however the venue certainly could have been more friendly. I can understand have a "no flash" rule or a "no professional photography" rule, but having security constantly interupt the show and threatening "paying" customers about snapping personal photos is a bit over the top.

It was wonderful to be able to sing to songs that are real songs. I took my youngest daughter with me and we had a blast. He sounds just like his songs. There was not digital touch up. It was just Michael and it was great!! I hope that he makes a return concert tour so that we can go back. I even enjoyed seeing the people standing up and dancing to his music.

Michael McDonald brought back a lot of memories from our past. My husband and I really loved the concert and both of us are in our 60's and can relate to the music we sang to in our earlier years. Boz Scaggs had a few songs we remembered and a few that we didn't remember. All in all a great night of music.

This concert was one of the best I've been to. Michael is so talented along with his band. No need for an opening act; he allows his singers the spotlight as well. He sang for almost 2 hours with the soul and energy of a 20 year old. Special surprise at the end; Miami Heat GM Pat Riley joining him on stage. Great night.

With a catalog of songs a mile long.....for some reason Michael decided that 1/2 the songs should be off his new variety......no thank you!

Although the musicianship appeared extraordinary, I was unable to understand a single word of the song lyrics. Either he was too close to the mic or the sound system was improperly calibrated. What a shame; he worked his heart out.

I've seen Michael McDonald a number of times over the years and this was the best I've seen him perform. He played his hits and also a number of great new songs from his new CD. Great band with him. He really connected with the audience and gave a great 3 song encore.I highly recommend seeing this great songwriter and performer.

Michael McDonald can still belt out his soulful voice and sing beautifully. His band was well put together and they rocked. Crowd was too docile to my liking. Not much standing or really getting into the music. Then again, his hits were more than 30 years ago. The music didn't attract a younger generation... their loss. Parker Playhouse is an old school local theatre. It was very comfortable and clean, but quite dated.

At 66 years of age Michael McDonald is still bringing the talent. And conducted himself with pure class. His band members and back up singers were very good in their performances.

Michael McDonald was such a great concert! He is an incredible artist and everyone was engaged the entire time. My seats were orchestra left, all the way at the end, so seeing the entire stage wasn't an option-- but the video screens helped us see the saxophone player when he did his solos. The sound seemed to overdrive-- the balance was off, but that may have been my seat location. I would see Michael McDonald again and again, though!

From the moment I first heard Michael McDonald's voice, I knew he was great and that I would be a lifelong fan! I couldn't believe I was actually going to meet him at the meet and greet! I had all these wonderful things I was going to say to him, and when he shook my hand all I could think to say was "Are you as happy to meet me as I am to meet you?!?!?" What an idiot I am. But he was the nicest, kindest, sweetest performer I have ever met. And his performance on stage was simply amazing, I loved every minute of this concert and keep wishing I had said something intelligent to this masterful artist. And he even introduced his wife who was a backup singer! I love when men are so kind to their wives. In other words, Michael McDonald takes the cake as the worlds greatest artist!!!!

Everything about Mr. McDonald's performance was outstanding including his band and back-up singers. The singing and playing, including his inimitable voice, were all that I expected them to be. Unfortunately, the sound engineers seemed to have exited the building before the concert began. There was a constantly annoying din of sound covering the performance that never allowed for clarity of the voices or instruments. If I hadn't known them already the words being sung could not be understood. Peabody really needs to find someone who knows how to enhance the artistry in a performance especially with a musical program. Unfortunately, Mr. McDonald's performance really suffered at the hands of a poor engineer.

+ At times it seemed that the band, was louder than him ..I was only 15 rows back + He's got a great , different voice, but I did not hear it until final song + I had never seen him in person, and wanted more of his individual efforts.. + Tall , female back up was super

If you want to spend the evening listening to cuts from Micheal's latest album rather than a night full of classics, then this is for you. Michael definitely still has it, and I thoroughly enjoyed his vocals, keyboards, and back-up sax (amazing!). But, the rest of the band is sub-par... well below what we should expect from Michael, and it often detracted from the sound. Speaking of which, the sound mix was horrible... I was seated in a great position but couldn't hear several instruments, and the vocals were too loud. In the end, I was very disappointed that he tended to stay away from the classics we all came to hear and wasted our time by promoting his wife's "albums" as well as his own. I'll pass next time.
