It was the second time I have seen the Blind Boys in concert. They do not disappoint. It was mostly new music with the same energy as I remember it. How do they do it? All I can say is their music keeps them young and alive with grace, love and praise. Being in the beautiful and small venue of the American Theatre was also perfect for this group. If they come back, I will too!

I am not particularly religious--you don't have to be to enjoy the Blind Boys. I had never heard them live before and their sound and harmonies were so rich and close, I cried during the first number! What beautiful voices combined with the fantastic musicianship of their band. They sang mostly gospel standards from the new CD, "I'll Find A Way", all of which were absolutely wonderful. The concert was upbeat and had an uplifting message to be appreciated by all in light of our society's problems right now.

A star lineup of New. Orleans musicians and the still-dancing older gentlemen gave the alive--and still-dancing--audience a great evening!

This was a high energy event and very interactive with the audience - great voices, instramental, and combined a standing ovation evening! Took my 70 year old dad for his birthday gift and he loved everything about the show as we did too. Great choice!

For a bunch of gentlemen to be preforming as long as they have, they still got it! The music was incredible and their ability to keep the show moving and upbeat was beyond what I had expected. I wouldn't hesitate to see them again.

The Venue Gospel Brunch with the Blind Boys was Excellent the group even minus their Lead Singer was great, they had the crowd up out of their seats praising God's Goodness. The Venue staff service was Excellent, the Buffet was good with a perfect pairing of menu items. It was great price for a Concert, Meal and Open Bar...Thank You..Horseshoe for a Great Event

This group has been performing for over 60 years. Originally formed by artists from the Alabama Institute for the Negro Blind, they have developed a unique gospel sound. This was their Christmas tour, so they added a few Christmas songs to their repertoire. Unfortunately, 2 of the long-time members have passed away, but the replacement members hold up their end of the bargain pretty well. It is a rollicking, clapping, inspiring show. The venue, Uptown Theatre in Napa, California, added to the experience because it is an intimate venue with great acoustics and a beautifully restored old movie theater.

We had an amazing evening of great music from The Blind Boys of Alabama. It was a combination of atmosphere from the Saenger Theatre and truly talented musicians and entertainers. My husband rarely cares about music, but they had him clapping and hollering and enjoying himself. I would recommend attending a Blind Boys event whenever you get a chance.

I had never seen the Blind Boys perform but they certainly put on a HIGH ENERGY, high impact show! The lead singer, led by his "handler", even went into the audience! The Birchmere was the PERFECT venue for this group! You got to see them up close and personal!

Blind Boys of AL put on quite a show. The music is stirring - you can't help but bounce your legs. The Blind Boys are fun to watch and are really in to their music. The band is very talented and blend in well with the singing. it's an astonishing performance for blind men in their 80s. You leave really, really happy!

Required to attend a concert for music appreciation. This was my first time to the Orpheum Theater, and I was very impressed with the setup. Although this isn't the music we typically listen to, we did very much enjoy the concert and the music. I would surely attend again if given the chance.

The overall show was fine and entertaining. The only disappointment was that the Dirty Dozen Brass Band only had seven members and no trombone players. They were still good.

Could not stand the opening act! It was deafening. The rhythm was fine but to play trumpets direct into microphone so loud it caused your ear drums to vibrate and then to scream direct into microphones making the words incomprehensible we finally had enough and left. Ushers handing out ear plugs was interesting but not helpful. Missed the Blind Boys of Alabama which was a shame!

Probably the best show I have seen at the Blue Ocean in many years, and I have seen quite a few headliners there. These gentleman, despite their advanced ages can still belt out a song like nobody's business. And their harmonies are beautiful. Excellent back-up band as well. I also want to mention that for once, the musical instruments and the sound system were perfectly balanced so as not to drown out the singers (or blow out my eardrums). I have been dismayed over the past year or so that Blue Ocean has been steadily increasing the prices of its tickets (ever since they hooked up with Ticketmaster), and I have stopped going to nearly as many concerts. But even at $50 a seat, I would have to say that the Blind Boys were worth it.

Although Jimmy Carter is getting up there in age and this show was only a bit over an hour long, we got our monies worth and so much more...We will see them every time they come thru the Boston area, from now on....We had a lady at our table who had never heard them and she was blown away and a fan for life now too.

Prior to Saturday night, the last time I had seen the Five Blind Boys of Alabama was in the mid-late fifties. Their leader then was Clarence Fountain. Both times I saw them, they were in a "battle" with the Five Blind Boys of Mississippi with lead singer, Archie Brownlee. Yes, they would battle, and to see and hear Clarence Fountain and Archie Brownlee working and even singing together on each other's songs, was just beyond words. Well, hearing the Blind Boys of Alabama Saturday night was like a step back into the old world of Gospel, but with a twist of the new Gospel added. They did the old spirituals, hymns, folk, and contemporary. Their harmony is still tight, and each singer contributes to the lead. In the old days, it was just Clarence Fountain at the front, but now each singer can and does take the lead lead. However, the "rock" of the group now is the oldest original member, Jimmy Carter. To my amazement, they have added a new and different voice, Paul Beasley, formerly of the Gospel Keynotes, and for a short period, the Mighty Clouds of Joy. I had no idea that Paul was a member of the group, but as soon as I heard that high shrilling tenor, I knew it had to be Paul. I have always loved hearing Paul with that great falsetta, and the sincerity that rings out from his voice when he sings. I don't know if Paul is a "blind boy" meaning he has lost his sight, but regardless, he adds something special to the Blind Boys. The group is special; no other like them. They don't perform for show or fashion, but to praise the Lord. They hold up the old and new banner for Gospel, and I thank God that I saw them back then when I was just a teenager and now at age 74. God bless the Five Blind Boys and their great young musicians. These young musician must be commended for touring with the older men and backing them so well. Bring them all back soon, please.

I left with songs in my heart, ready to face the bitter cold of Ohio with my own inner warmth. They all belted out beautiful music with a message. This was my first time seeing Mavis Staples and my fourth time seeing the Blind Boys. I would go see them all again.

I have been wanting to see this group for a long time. I saw the group on 60 Minutes years ago and really enjoyed the interview. The group surpassed my expectations. They really included the audience and make it even more enjoyable. This was a great start to the Christmas season for me and my friend!

This was a super show in a very intimate venue of the Ponte Vedra (FL) Concert Hall. Probably about 200 people or so got to witness this iconic group perform so many great gospel standards. Opening act The Willowwacks did a very nice job and offered up mostily original compositions. I'm not a fan of "folk", but enjoyed them nonetheless.

The Blind Boys rocked the gospel! Is god at the conference table? Yayus indeed. Then Ivan's Dumpstaphunk were phenomenal. I would have given it 5 stars but they were just TOO loud for us leaning against the stage. Had to move back but still sounded great and more room to dance.

Blind Boys and and opening act, Bettye Lavette, were equally superb, evoking strong emotions and crowd enthusiasm. Both are accomplished, veteran stage performers who carry tunes with fresh, clear notes and vocals.

We might not have many more chances to hear BBA and for those who missed this, they MISSED a foot-tapping, hand-clapping, hallelujah praising time. They performed for a solid 1 1/2 hours. When it was over, I couldn't believe how fast the time flew. They have wit and humor along with scads of talent. It was fun to sing along with old gospel favorites and easy to pick up on the chorus of the new ones. Because there were a lot of empty seats the usher came up and said we could move. We settled right behing the first balcony bar railing.

My only complaint was that the band music was too loud. Some of the words ot the songs were drowned out by the loudness of the guitars, drums, etc. Very good concert, if the volume had just been adjusted down. The theater itself is really beautiful. The lead singer who must be close to 80 years old has the lungs of a 30 year old. How in the world could he hold those notes so long??
