They really got to it...from the first song to the encore they went at it full force. Full of energy and non stop tearing it up. Nick Cave never dissapoints. One the best shows ever.

As expected from Nick Cave and Warren Ellis and crew, the show was intense, energized, and not soon to be forgotten. The intimacy of the Variety Playhouse was great to be able to see these legendary musicians up close. I was 5 feet away from the stage for the duration of the show and it was fantastic!

Grinderman has it all and blows every other band out of the water or universe. By far, the best show I have ever seen.

I've been waiting to see this band up close and intimately sine I saw them on Late Night with Jules a few years back...totally blew me away!!! Cave, Ellis, Casey and Sclavunosve gave it ther all and were absolutely amazing. Raw and gritty rock and roll at it's best. One thing I just didn't get was the crowd's lack of enthusiasm!! It was as if they had lead boots and were suddenly struck with paralysis!! Sorry Grimderman if that overly cool New York crowd didn't do it for you! For me, you are what it's all about!!

What can I say? Grinderman blew my mind, I have never seen a group with so much energy and charisma on stage, it was one of the best gigs of my life. The only let down was the subdued nature of the crowd, a few whoops and the odd clap? That's not how we do it in England. The band? faultless. The crowd? Must try harder...

These guys melted my face! There was plenty of standing room at the venue, so that made it easy to get within face-melting range. Drink prices were outrageous, but that's to be expected. Great opening act, too!

I've seen Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds so I kind of knew what to expect but it should be known that these men have some really amazing energy and showmanship. You can tell they are totally into what they're doing. I know that if it were me up there I would be too tired to come out and do five encores, and I'm in my twenties. Really great show, really nice venue.

I was surprised and impressed that they only played Grinderman songs, but it was so incredible. They all have such excellent stage presence, especially Cave and Ellis who both know how to work the stage. The venue was beautiful, I didnt expect such lavish decorations, and 4 crystal chandeliers in a rock venue is very surprising! The Will call opened LATE which kinda sucked, but otherwise stellar experience.

It was LOUD and FANTASTIC and so many times better than their album work. The energy of Cave and Ellis was captivating and awesome, and Casey and Sclavinious were quite content to rock on, undeterred by their more active bandmates. The albums are great, but the live show was so much better and had so much more muscle to it. It was simply beautiful.

An exposive evening iin which a southern bapist preacher yeilding a chainsaw ripped the black roots out of the ground and burned them over your head. Only to be thrown into the back walls of the theater splattered with an ear to ear smile as you witness the neighbor's wife melted into an orgy of sound.

What can I say? My first Nick Cave experience. Found out about the Bad seeds just 4 months ago and pretty much that is all I've been listening to. Grinderman 1 and 2 are great albums with all I can say is good rock and roll music. Before Grinderman, was a terrible guy who went by Armand-Ra who was trying to be Klaus Nomi only in his black and slightly strange attire. Instead of singing high-pitched he used his theramin skills to hit them. This was the most boring experience I've had with the use of a theramin and it's easy to see why. He played along to a prerecorded piano and other instruments and even did the theme song from the freaking God Father! It felt like a subway act! It was way too low key for something like Grinderman. Might have been okay if there were other live musicians to back the guy up. Check out Messer Chups for some rockin' theramin playing. Getting to the main event: This show in particular was amazing. Once the band got out, they proceeded to rock it as hard as they could. Ellis didn't let up at all the entire show, playing the violin like a mad man and banging on a cymbal whenever needed with whatever from his fists to maracas. Cave at one point in the beginning of the show flipped Ellis on his back. Ellis shook it off and continued playing like a pro. Great music and used only their catalogue. Their live version of Man on the Moon was truly great, much better live than the album which I already enjoyed. If Grinderman comes to your town, See them!

This is a tough show to review. We love Nick Cave. One of our favorites. We have seen all his NYC shows since The Birthday Party, whom Grinderman most closely resembles. Our favorite Nick is the intense, rocker which is how he presents himself in his current band. Having said that, I must admit to missing the other Nick, someone caught between ballad singer and lounge act. As great as Grinderman are they are a bit one dimensional. The crowd didn't help matters. One of the worst, most boring audiences we were ever in. Nick gave it his all but the crowd gave NOTHING back. Just stood there. We have never seen such a lack of response from his audiences. The encore was more a matter of tradition than a response to a crowd gone wild. More like John Lydon's old line "and the crowd went mild". I may be a bit harsh as the future of The Bad Seeds seems unclear. When Warren Ellis joined The Seeds things changed. 1st to leave was Caves co-conspiriter Blixa and then Mick Harvey, who has been Nick's red right hand since the beginning left. I have heard Ellis called Nick's Yoko Ono. Ellis is a very talented musician but much too showy. There is only one star in a band with Cave and that is Cave himself. Take note, Warren.

Flew from San Diego when Grinderman canceled here to see them at the Warfield- so glad I did. This show took me to realms of happiness and bliss rarely experienced, totally lost in the pure brilliance, and such a wonderful escape from the mundaneness of work, normal life. It was way too loud so the guitars were distorted but the energy and showmanship were out of this world. Been a Nick Cave fan forever but really enjoyed watching Ellis as well and their interaction. I didn't think it was possible for me to more passionate about Nick Cave than I already was, but after this concert I literally smiled for days-I LOOOVE Grinderman and if I had the money I'd just follow them around and watch them live over and over and over.

The warm-up guy was kind of sucky but once Grinderman was on the stage it was incredible! Nick poured his heart into the performance as well as the others! As cheap as the tickets were I would go see these guys once a month if I could. DO NOT MISS THEM if they come to your area. I drove a little over 200 miles to see them. I rocked on their CD's all the way home! I am a new fan. Didn't even know who they were 3 weeks ago. I am also 50 years young! Fantastic show and the Warfield is an exceptional peice of artwork in its own right.

Show was phenomenal from start to finish. The energy in the room was intoxicating, primal, & steaming hot. Nick Cave & Warren Ellis are clearly 2 of the greatest showmen of this era. I brought a friend with me who was not familiar with either Grinderman or Bad Seeds music, and she left the show in awe & jazzed to explore the albums. Thanks Guys for a bad ass performance!

Grinderman is sweet live. Their energy is damn near superhuman. Warren flails around like a man possessed, Nick Cave commands the stage with the fervor of a devil preacher, Martyn looks like some kind of werewolf, and Jim wails on the drums with ridiculous tenacity. Combine this with the excellent sound of the Music Box. Win.

Grinderman is Nick Cave and members of the Bad Seeds, but make no mistake, this is not a Bad Seeds show. Where the Bad Seeds are sweeping, melodic, and beautiful, Grinderman is loud, harsh, and pulls no punches. They may look like they're a bit past it, but they're amazing, and they've got absolutely nothing to prove to the likes of you anyway! The band walked on stage carrying cups of hot tea, and promptly launched into some of the most hardcore, earnest noise out there today. They're nothing short of amazing in concert, it's like going to a Nick Cave show twenty years ago, if he'd had all the wisdom and heart back then that he does now. Totally A+

I am a Nick Cave follower and have long supported his work but this concert was not enjoyable at all. The sound was a blur, the music was distorted, all words disappeared, any musical finesse died. Sorry, but if the system doesn't support your music, get a new one!!

Nick and Grinderman put on a fantastic high energy show. The only issue was the tendency of SF audiences to be passive, like a cold fish. There was little engagement other than the people in the very front row shaking hands with Nick. People in the audience didn't move. The clapping was polite and muted quickly. The encore was expected. Please give me a rowdier, crazier crowd. SF used to be something.

The old timers definitely have it going on in terms of not just professionalism but energy. Nick Cave is as spry as a teen ager but with practiced grace. Warren Ellis is the other front man. Both Cave and Ellis seem to have diametrically opposed performance styles with Cave being artful and posed while Ellis enjoys being a spaz and doesn't really seem to care while having a great time gyrating on the floor with one foot in the air and one finger on a keyboard or hitting a high hat with a rattle. The drummer was a machine. Nick Cave looks much better without his mustache. Both the music and focus of this show was awesome with one obligatory encore that didn't go on too long.

Nick Cave has recaptured the passion and intensity of the Birthday Party with the added sophistication of his age and talents. He commands the stage with a powerfully sensual presence. The atmosphere he creates feels like you've walked into another world where poetry and sound engulf you, seduce you and sweep you off your feet. Grinderman Is the is yet another sexy evolutionary step in the incarnation of Nick's talents.

Lanky Nick Cave looks remarkably like Richard E Grant, moving like a nimble insect around the stage and touching the (deafened) front audience. But the biggest surprise was the bearded Robinson Crusoe lookalike who sang/guitar/violin/cymbals etc when he wasn't rolling on his back or some other amusing antic. The 2 other band members were rather static but Cave+Crusoe more than filled the space.

It's been a life long goal to see Nick Cave long, and I was not close to being disappointed. That voice, the lyrics, and the evolved talent of both himself, and his current band mates was worth much more than the 25.00 ticket. Can't wait to see what he is up to in 5, 10, 20 years. Downside: First Avenue was not the appropriate venue for this ensemble. Awkward spaces = everyone standing still and compacted. Also, the crowd wasn't the friendliest. The weird rudeness dampered the spirit of the moment.

Grinderman is ten times better live than they are on disc (and their recordings are great), and they have improved with age without losing any of their edge. From a long time Bad Seeds fan, I love this outlet for some more lively tunes again. The mix was excellent and Nick's voice is amazing live.

Been a fan of Nick and the boys since I was 16. Only seen them one other time at the 94 Lallapalooza (god bless Perry) and I was very much closer this time. Loved the venue and the area of Atlanta, the guys helping usher where honestly nice and helpful. The show was outstanding and I left feeling fulfilled as well as sonically assaulted. Please come back again and take care travelling. Your loving fan of 24 years humbly thanks you all for your efforts.
