Fujiya & Miyagi

Fujiya & Miyagi

FUJIYA & MIYAGI IN CONCERT:British trio Fujiya & Miyagi have always been more concerned with the quality of their sound than with the meaning behind it. Take, for instance, the band's moniker -- at face value, you'd probably expect them to be a Japanese duo, but the trio has said they simply picked the name because they liked how it sounded. Their focus on sonic detail carries over into their soaring electro-pop tunes, which layer lead singer David Best's whisper-like vocals over entrancing, experimental sounds. The result is a catalog of synth-heavy jams that, when performed live, emphasize the band's finely-tuned craft over showmanship.

Aimes was AAAAWWWEEESSSOMMMMEEE. The second act, Dinowalrus made me uncomfortable, so I left. The third was quirky fun, ego-driven hipsters with quite the cult following of men. But Fujiya & MIyagi was by far the most professional, rocking, funky, amazing act of all. I'm a fan of their music, and was blown away by their live show. I have to admit, I had my doubts at them being fun live with their low key music, but they really kept the audience dancing the whole time. They didn't pause long between songs. The sound was impeccable. And the energy was HIGH. Love them.
