For months a co-worker kept telling me to YouTube Mike Farris. In June I finally got around to it. After watching 2 videos, I was online searching for NY shows. n I say this man did not disappoint? The soul this man exudes is beyond explanation. I sat through the opening act, but as he got into his first song, the force and purity of his voice compelled me to stand. Mike Farris is a talent to be reckoned with. On top of it all, he's quite gracious. He had no problem taking pics with fans and discussing his music. He is definitely my favorite show this year.

I only know Wade's music from the "All Likkered Up" album and expected a rousing set of silly, angry songs, having never seen him prior. I was bowled over by the set I witnessed, Wade only playing one tune from the aforementioned album. Instead, he invoked the spirit of Johnny Cash and the lyrical wisdom of John Prine to deliver a series of story songs about hard luck people and the consequences of their choices. Wade earned a fan as I went directly home and ordered all of his other albums, The only downside for me was the "percussion" session which consisted of two young men, one on a bongo and the other... a garbage can. Although this added humor to the proceedings, it did nothing for the music. Farris came on and his voice filled the small venue, resonating with it's fullness and beauty. Fans eagerly listened,a nd although the turnout was miniscule, Farris rocked the place as if at a major venue. I am not a gospel fan but overcame my dislike quickly as the music itself was too beautiful and earnest to dismiss. On a side note, I ran into Wade outside and he proved congenial and endearing, even posing for a picture.

Mike ALWAYS puts on a great show! No artist has as good of a voice as Mike nor gives as much heart and soul into every performance. This show had it all and it was great to see Mike welcome playing some of his early material.

Mike and his band were terrific and uplifting in the beautiful, outdoor Cain Park setting. His positive spirit is truly infectious. This is a man having fun with what he's doing. We traveled all the way from Chicago to see them. He and the McCrary sisters were gracious enough to come out afterwards and meet with folks and chat for a while as well. More people need to see his show and feel the energy that he exudes!!

I had never even heard of Mike Farris before I agreed to meet some friends for an outdoor blues concert. What a wonderful surprise! The venue was beautiful and the band was amazing. Mike has the strongest, most addictive voice I've heard in a while. I sat in awe for most of the night, just taking in the beautiful sound the whole ensemble provided. If you are looking for an extremely talented lead and band that will have you clapping and tapping your toes to the music all night long, go see Mike Farris.
