White Lies came on and just really performed with a big sound reminiscent of Joy Division. Lead singer Harry Mcveigh was humble as he performed their full album plus Taxidermy and Portishead cover of The Rip. Just all in all a great band and sound to end Friday evening with.

Having the venue at webster hall was a great idea, the sound didnt get lost and you could tell that the whole band knew what they were doing and are beyond fantastic. I couldnt even say one small negative thing about this concert because there is none to say. The White Lies came on stage as themselves and delivered an onslaught of beautiful music and skill and to top it off they truly looked as though they were having fun aswell.

This band has been on my radar since March and was able to see them first live at Lollapalooza in August and they blew me away. I knew that if this was going to be their only performance in NY, I had to be a part of it. And boy they didnt. disappoint. Man with this intimate setting I felt that I was sitting in somebody's house watching them play my favorite music.

Everything about this band suggest dark and depressive, but the set started on a up and stayed there for the entire night. Starting out with Farewell to the Fairgrounds and ending with Death, with the crowd singing every word as though they were on stage themselves doing backing vocals. The show was perfect, but then again I am being bias (not just a little but a lot) as I think the band is that great.

Bathed in white light and smoke and swathed in all black, The White Lies kicked off the night with a very spirited version of Farewell To The Fairground. A very lively crowd danced and sang from the start of the show which lasted for about 70+ minutes. They played pretty much all their material and even threw in a Portishead cover (The Rip). These guys don't frolic about the set much. They fuel the instruments, and add a fancy piece of drumming, to a very enthusiastic audience who do the dancing for them. These guys are superb. Glorious rock.

I bought White Lies tickets for my boyfriend because he had mentioned them before, I found a great deal and it was at Terminal 5 which I love going to because its very small and personal and its almost impossible to get a bad spot. WOW! Sun Airway, School of Seven Bells and White Lies are 3 bands that, because of how wonderful this show was, will definitely be on my top playlists. I didn't know about Sun Airway and this was for sure the best way to discover them. For all 3 bands the sound, the performance, their attitudes, jokes, ... were just great. If I had to complain I would only say that I would have liked a bit more of a background for White Lies since the first 2 bands had either soft faded video projections or subtle light effects, for White Lies the stage fell flat in terms of ambient but it didn't take away from how incredible they were.

I thought the band put on a good show, but the sound was horrible. It seemed like the levels were completely off, and whenever the time came for a big chorus or other part of a song which was supposed to blow you away, it instead seemed weak.

Despite growing up in the 90 s, I am an 80 s baby when it comes to music. So anytime a new band puts out music in that vein, it always catches my attention. The show was great and they play with a lot of energy, and it reminded me of a cross between The Killers and Interpol. The acoustics are never great at Terminal 5 for bands with natural instruments, but the bass and drums were coming out well the whole show. I ll definitely be checking them out the next time they re in town.

Although the show wasn't sold out, White Lies front man Harry McVeigh was a bit surprised to see a big turnout at Terminal 5. T5 is huge compared to Bowery Ballroom or Highline. You really can't feel that one-on-one impact or it lacks emotion or connection to the band whenever we're @ T5, but I was willing to see them and so we went. Too bad to those who missed it. The crowd was a bit laid back at first, but Harry McVeigh defied the crowd and won them over with his heartbreaking, dark lyrics. The band hit the crowd with back-to-back cookies. WOW! Harry sang with passion and my friends sang and danced along - most of the time we were all holding each other. A bit embarrassing really, but we were hanging on to every word. Love...love this band.

White Lies turned out to be as good as expected and then some. With the release of another full studio album the band was able to play a lengthy set worthy of a band of their newly achieved status as a main act. Sonically they they were as tight and on point as can be with the lead vocalist impressing song after song. As armband they were charming and gracious and even group bowed after their three song encore. great show!

This was a great show, the best I've seen for a while. I missed them after the first album so was pysched to see them this time. White lies are very tight and the sound was great. I don't understand why the Paradise was not more packed! I guess not as many people know about them here in the US as I think. The only downside was that the crowd was a little weird, some people got the White Lies show confused with Jersey Shore danceparty. But that could just be me being crotchety towards the young people in my early 30's :)

All donned in black the White Lies entered the stage, started and got the crowd off with "Fairwell to the fairground" and kept a pretty tight grip on the crowd for the remainder of the show. The band has presence on stage and lead singer Harry McVeigh has a mesmerising voice, sometimes very reminiscent of Joy Divisions Ian Curtis. A new song from the forthcoming album was heard. They also played, for the first time, an awesome Portishead cover. All in all, a tight and visually solid concert by a very promising young band. In general, Webster Hall sport some pretty good stages. Lighting on main stage is always wickedly good. Seriously though bar prices are silly, 8 bucks for a beer..?

Five star show. Not having heard them live before because I was never able to catch any of their handful of NY shows over the last # of years, this was an act that I was looking forward to hearing live at the first opportunity. I think I can best describe their studio sound like this: have you ever tried to put something back in a box and it doesn't fit right so you're pushing it all in and forcing it to fit just so you can close the top? That's what I think of when I hear their songs through my speakers. As I do enjoy their studio sound, (it's what put me on to them in the first place and I can never play it loud enough), I was really curious to see if a live show would reveal the larger, more explosive sound that they own, versus a 'bottled up' type of studio recorded sound. I was more than impressed and the show beat my expectations by a long shot. There was a lot of energy, some explosive moments, and the crowd seemed to feel it at the same times that I did. There was a reciprocating energy: the band was pretty interactive with the crowd, really got them going at times, and as the crowd got hyped, the band played back to it. The lead singer was enjoying himself and that was a factor in keeping the crowd engaged. Maybe it was the successful formula of a good crowd (they seemed to be there for the band, as opposed to a crowd that always goes to the same spot to hear different bands), and a venue that can support their larger than studio sound, but for me it was a great time, not a flat moment. It was good to finally hear them at a level that my stereo can't reach

Simply Amazing. Perfect gentlemen on stage and performed with passion and enjoyment the whole time. Opening acts fit the mood. Timing was typical of Paradise, bit of a wait between the second opening act and them coming on. Crowd was enjoyable but not overly rowdy, didn't get crushed. Sound quality was excellent, could hear the vocals as well as the guitar riffs. Wasn't too loud as well like other venues, just the right intensity to make it unforgettable. Had a little merchandise area set up before the gig as well so you could see what was available. Able to pick up a copy of their first album as an LP with download for only 10 bucks, a bargain. Would go back and see them in a heartbeat. Only wish it had been sold out since they deserved it.

While these genuine and humble guys are relatively low key on stage, by no means do they disappoint in performance. I've been in love with White Lies for about a year and a half now. Their music has helped me through a patch of terrible depression, an manipulative and physically abusive ex, and completing my childhood dream of moving to New York City. The first time I saw them was at Bowery Ballroom last October, in the midst of finally breaking free of that ex. Bowery is incredibly smaller than Webster, and the sound is a whole world above that at Webster (though Webster is still far from the worst when it comes to acoustics). The set flowed, the crowd was jumping and everyone there was riding the emotional roller coaster that is White Lies together. There was a community feeling there that really made you feel like part of the band, part of the crowd, part of the story that White Lies tells. Now, on to the show at Webster last night... There was a very obvious disconnect from the band to the crowd. There were a handful of people around me who were singing along, jumping up and down, and really feeling the music... but there were even more who had nothing but irritated looks and a general air of disinterest. Add in that the set choice didn't really flow (it felt like I had put their most popular singles in a playlist and hit shuffle), and the band seemed very contained within themselves (very little crowd interaction), and it wasn't quite what I was expecting. BUT, their playing was absolutely solid, the lighting was superb, and their cover of I Would Die 4 U was absolutely adorable. I wasn't brought to tears like I was when I saw them in October, but I was certainly entertained, and will definitely be seeing them the next time they come around. Overall, the show was pleasant and enjoyable, and it was very refreshing to see them live again. I'm giving it four stars because they are a powerhouse in terms of actual playing, but I have to knock one off because they had minimal stage presence last night.

I can say that I love almost every song White LIes has produced. So I always want to see them if they come thru the U.S. on a tour. Sadly they were only visiting five U.S. cities this round, so I flew to L.A. for the concert. So worth it! While I loved the last tour (saw them in Seattle), they seemed so much more relaxed this time and seemed to be having a lot more fun. White Lies put on an amazing show at the El Rey. The set list included a great selection from all 3 albums, with an emphasis on the first and third albums. The band sounded great and Harry seemed to be enjoying the crowd's enthusiasm for the songs. Most of all, Harry humbly expressed his genuine appreciation for the fans' support a couple of times during the concert. While White Lies deserves a fan base big enough to fill an arena, I'm glad that I was able to see them in such a great small venue as the El Rey.

These guys sound better live than on their albums. That's saying something because it has only happened to me before one other time. I will see the White Lies every time they come to L.A. The Valley Below was pretty cool too. My sister who attended the concert with me came straight home and bought their music. The El Rey is really quite nice and it's easily accessible with easy parking and still sounds great inside. I especially liked the way the floor rumbled beneath my feet with the music. Two years ago I saw White Lies perform at a small, indoor venue, and they were amazing. I had been a huge fan of theirs already for a few months, so it was really exciting to finally see them live! I remember they played an equal number of songs from their first two albums: To Lose My Life and Ritual. Harry's vocals sounded terrific....music always sounds so much better live! For only $20 I got to stand about 8 ft from the stage and see one of my favorite bands perform! This is why it's good to "discover" great bands before they get too popular. Once they start playing at those giant venues, you're going to have to pay at least a hundred bucks for a decent seat, but even that can still be really far away from the stage! I don't know about White Lies' popularity in other countries, but I do know for sure that more people in the US should be listening to them! There is not a single song of theirs that I don't like; they are all incredible... So, start listening to their music and buy tickets to their shows before they get too famous!
