Ever since my daughter and grand kids shared the Disney Pixar movie "Brave" I have been listening to Julie Fowlis. I love the ancient Gaelic music and her voice is beautiful. No electronic enhancement or tuning. Julie Fowlis is a very pretty Scottish gal with a fantastic talent and pleasing personality. If you are looking for a glitter and glitz light show, she's not for you. If you want to see true talent and dedication to the arts, don't miss her if and when she comes to a venue near you.

We attended the Julie Fowlis concert in Springfield, OH. What an incredible performance! She and her band ( acoustic guitar, fiddle, and a bouzouki-guitar played by her husband, along with her vocals as well as pennywhistles and an Indian instrument called a shruti) held the audience absolutely spellbound for two hours, and only three of the songs were in English (most were in Scottish Gaelic, and one was in Galatian). We actually felt the lack of English was an advantage, as it let us focus on the music itself. The lyrics were beautiful and rhythmic all by themselves, even without knowing the language. The music ranged from slow lullabies and haunting "seal songs", to incredibly fast "mouth songs", all done perfectly, with all the performers in perfect sync with each other, and each showing complete mastery of their individual instruments. Julie's voice was absolutely angelic, and it was clear that her personality is as well. I've heard it said that one way to tell a truly great performer is if their live performances are of the same quality as their studio CD's, they are relying on their talent, skill and musicianship instead of counting on a lot of doctoring and editing in the studio. This group definitely displayed that kind of skill and consistency. A truly enchanting night! This was the first stop on their US tour. Next stop will be this Sunday in Concord, NH. Tonight's performance was sold out, and I recommend getting your tickets early. You can see the rest of their schedule on her official website:

This was the second time I have had the pleasure of seeing Julie Fowlis, along with Eamon, Duncan and Tony. They are world-class musicians, and Julie's voice is as pure as light. Highly recommended to anyone with an interest in music from the region or folk in general.

This was the most enjoyable concert I've been to in many, many years! Julie s amazing voice and stage presence in the small venue left me feeling as though I d watched the performance in her living room. Her little three-piece band was a perfect match for her voice, style and the character of her music. I m so thankful that she braved hurricane matthew to come to Tidewater. I sincerely hope she comes back here again, very soon--please!. \u2026or as they say locally yo all come back, hea .

Julie Fowlis was brilliant! The girl is SO talented! She had just flown in, had no sleep and was jet-lagged, but she carried on like a real trouper! We love events at the beautiful Carolina Theater. Julie in this venue was worth every penny...Can't wait to see her again....hopefully at Carolina Theater.

Julie's voice and musicianship was beyond my expectations. Closing the encore on pipes made my night. Her friendly and warm personality was so welcoming. The quality of musicians supporting her was exceptional as well. Overall a great birthday concert spent with my wife and daughter. The staff of the theater were very friendly and helpful.
