Showcase live is definitely a nice area to hang out. Serving staff is somewhat prompt and you get your food quickly. For the event there was a Dj who at first played- that was nice to hear some music while we waited. Would have been helpful if they mention on the event detail the DJ was playing late as I made plans to meet people some place else. Slick Rick only did 30minutes but that's ok as the other entertainers were fairly decent.

I ALWAYS LOVE GOING TO SHOWCASE LIVE. BUT SLICK RICK WAS HORRIBLE. I MEAN I KNOW HE DOES NOT DANCE, BUT GEES LOUISE. HE COULD HAVE SOME KIND OF DANCERS OR SOMETHING. HE STOOD THERE WITH HIS HAND IN HIS POCKET LIKE HE WAS SCARED TO TAKE IT OUT, LIKE IT WAS GOING TO FALL OFF HIS SHOULDER.. NEVER AGAIN!

It was nice seeing Slick Rick perform but he was only on for about 45 minutes and the rest of the show was filled up with 3 hrs of an extremely corny amateur rapper and luckily the second opening act was better but still would have liked to see more of Rick. A long time to be standing for basically not much. Band was very good that played with him, seemed a little off beat. Not worth all the waiting in line and standing.

We waited on line for long time as expected. The show started late. The opening acts were horrible. And Slick rushed through his set (30 minutes or less).

I go to a lot of concert, and my boy and I agreed that this was one of the best we have ever seen. Slick Rick got up there and rocked the place! He did all his old songs IN FULL! The venue is super small, which made it awesome! It was not over packed or anything. I have one more thing to say: WOW!

I PURCHASED A TICKET IN HOPES OF SEEING ONE OF MY FAVORITE ARTIST, SCARFACE, WHO ENDED UP NOT THERE. I WAS REAL UPSET ABOUT THAT BECAUSE IT ADVERTISED SCARFACE ON THE LINE UP AND I CAME ALL THE WAY FROM WDC. SLICK RICK TURNED THE PARTY OUT THOUGH, ALONG WITH GOODIE MOB. ENJOYED THE MOST PART THOUGH. OUR SERVER WAS VERY FRIENDLY AND COURTEOUS. THE DRINKS WERE GOOD AND THE NACHOS I ORDERED WAS OK, DIDN'T CARE FOR THE SHREDDED MEAT. IF I'M IN NY AGAIN I WOULD PROBABLY GO BACK FOR DRINKS.

When I bought my tickets MONTHS before the show & convinced 4 of my friends to come from DC to NY, it was to see Slick Rick. The addition of Goodie Mob was JUST extra. And though I love Ceeloo (I'm from the South), I was really excited about Slick Rick. And for all of that, I got a lack luster mismash of a show. Slick Rick is a LEGEND. His show is supposed to legendary - at least that's what I expected. The Goodie Mob was great. But not good enough to overcome my disappointment with The Ruler. 43 or not if you're going to do a show, DO A SHOW!

Slick Rick pulled out the best of his old school hip hop hits that had all of youngins (like me) reciting & boppin to. Being from the South, I was excited to see Goodie Mob amp up the energy with Ceelo & even mixing it up between old school & new school hits. Anyone that enjoys old school hip hop as much as I do should catch one of their gigs! BB Kings Awesome ambience; def coming back in the near future!!

I haven't seen the Goodie Mob perform in about 12 years. They still put it down. Loved them back in the day and I still do. Great energy although Cee-Lo was less than pleased about the crowd participation. Still the prima donna after all these years. LOL. Slick Rick is a legend! Put on a great show as well. Consummate showman. Rocked every single piece of jewelry he owns. I had a great time although Scarface cancelled at the last minute.

There are times when certain concerts tend to really get a crowd going and get people feeling the joy they once had when they were younger, and reminisce about the past and thinking about what you were doing during the time when those certain Slick Rick songs came out. It was great to be in such a classy environment and to be with people of all ages and races getting along and just enjoying the music that we all onced loved. Slick Rick did most of all his classic songs and really engaged the crowd and uplifted everyones spirits from the long 2 hour wait that we had to endure. I dont think any rap concert ever runs on schedule but it was worth the wait and i would do it all over again.

There is a definite buzz for classic established old school artist right now but with that comes a responsibility from the artist. If you are not ready to do a show, don't accept the booking. Don't tarnish a good memory with an unprepared unenthusiastic performance. Rick came out not looking "slick" at all. As descriptive as his lyrics have been about his style there was little to no thought put into what he wore on stage. Even getting past his choice of clothes his performance was lethargic and barely audible at times. Doug E did his best to carry Rick but it was apparent he should have left Rick at home on the couch.

Although Slick Rick tried his hardest the show was way too short for the money that I spent on tickets. The show started at nine but Slick Rock didn't come out until about 10 and was off stage by 10:30pm!!!!!! There was no after party or meet and greet. I was thoroughly disappointed by how fast the show ended.

I enjoyed the show. Rakim had a medical emergency and couldn't perform :( so Jadakiss filled in for him. I was very disappointed Rakim couldn't perform, but things happen and I still enjoyed the show despite the fact that Rakim couldn't perform. Jadakiss did a pretty good job filling in and it was cool to see Canibus and Biz Markie. I really hope you guys can get Rakim back next year---since he wasn't able to perform this year due to a medical emergency.

Ole skool hip hop never dies!!! Slick Rick was on point, as were the Dee Jays who hosted the event!!! Rakim was unable to make it so Jada Kiss turned the crowd up!!! We were there for 6 hours and enjoyed every bit of it!!! Shout out to Howard Theatre for keeping these artists relevant by showing them love!!!

To me the show was NOT as entertaining as last year's show. With Rakim not showing up and the last minute replacement of Jada Kiss was just....unpleasing. I will not be returning for another Slick Rick Event....Though the Howard Theater is Gorgeous and I totally love it. Food was a lil dry.

The show was a mess from the start. Had no idea Rakim was not performing until we were in the building. The warm ups and opening acts were terrible. Slick Rick came out and did his thing for real, but again Thank God for Biz Mark. He and Slick Rick together were amazing. The rest of the show was awful

Lots of people wrote negative reviews.... I don't know why.... I saw Slick Rick at BB Kings last night, he killed it, rocked it, brought old school back, even if it was just for 1 hour, well worth it and I would love to see him again. Spreading a positive message to the young and allowing the older to reminisce of "better days" He sounded great, like himself, did all the favorites, and put on a great show. Love love love slick rick!!!

I know hiphop is about free spirit and letting the rhymes flow but Slick Rick and Rakim just showed up and gave the audience a street level concert. There was no coordination between the MC and DJ. At one point, Rakim was just killing time trying to think of what songs he said give us next. He totally lost the audience that at certain times, It was so quiet in the venue that you could hear a pin drop. We left when Rakim calls Rick back on the stage and they are trying to find a microphone for them to do some type of duo or rap battle. I know they are now older in their careers but at least have a rehearsal before jumping out of your son's car onto a stage where patrons really came to see a show.

Slick Rick and Rakim were fantastic! Slick had on his trademark jewelry and performed all of my favorite songs. Rakim was amazing & so freaking cool. I beleive he has found the fountain of youth bc he hasn't aged at all!! My only complaint is that Rakims set & DJ were way too loud and the DJ kept requesting to be turned up even louder. And the opening act (can't & don't want to remember their names) was garbage.

The concert was off the hook. Rakim and Slick Rick the Ruler nailed the show. I also loved that they had Picasso on stage painting a portrait of them while they were performing. During intermission, the dj's did their thing as well. The only thing I didn't care for was the opening act. They cursed way too much and used the "N" word like it was in style. Otherwise, we had a great time.

The Slick Rick and Rakim show was off the chain!!! It was nice hear some good music for a change. Both of their DJ's took the crowd back with some of the classics that still once you hear it gets the party going... I hope they come back again cause if they do I will be back to party with them again.. Just now getting my voice back!!

I love old school hip hop, my opinion is real music with heart and substance, and everything from what Dj Chaos mixed, to all the songs performed by both artist, made this a very memorable show! It really brought back some fond memories of growing up and what fun things that were going on while these artists were making names for themselves. I'd see them again and again! 4 stars!!!

This was my first time being in the Howard Theatre since it has been renovated and reopen. And it's a great looking theatre, they did a great job. And the show was great. Slick Rick was great and I really enjoyed him. But Rakim was at a different level and different vibe. Really great show. So many memories flooded to the surface with all the old school music DJ Kos was playing. Who did a great job of keeping the show moving.

My husband and I both thought Slick Ricks time has come and gone. His music didn't go with his lyrics the worst performance I have ever seen. The DJ rocked the house, Rakim didnt miss a beat it was1988 all over again loved his performance. He should have done the show alone.

Being a native New Orleanian I was excited to see that Soul Rebels was coming to town. However, they did not play long and I didn't really get the New Orleans vibe that I was hoping for. I'm not a Slick Rick fan so while I enjoyed his performance, we left before he finished the set. Rare Essence came on first and did a great job warming up the crowd and paying tribute to the late great Chuck Brown!
