The play itself was pretty good as was the theather. Due to being a bit late - ;-) - for the first half I sat on the upper balcony but in the second row. Those seats are actually not too bad, might be bit tight if your over 6', although I wouldn't go for the seats on the upper most balcony, especially in the last rows. In the second half I joined my girlfriend and sat in the dress circle on the main floor. Those seats are of course better & closer to the stage but if you're on a budget get the balcony ones, with some discount code or on hottix.org if possible, you still get to see and enjoy the play. And majority of girls will really like that kind of outing, nice place and play for a date. Just DON'T be late and you will score some good "brownie points" ;-) I did!

It was very expensive for the quality of the show. The sets weren't very impressive, the cast was just okay. The best part of the show was the music, of course.

Fiddler on the Roof is a classic and it is worth seeing any competent performance. Would I have liked to see a FULL orchestra? Yes. Could the scenery have been better ? A little. Would I have liked it if Tevye a little more emotional when Hodel leaves for Siberia!? Yes. Overall, though, John Preece is a very good Tevye. We introduced our 12yr old daughter and 10yr old sons to Fiddler via this production and they loved it.

Really disappointing. $150 tickets- I felt like asking for a refund. Actors were sleepwalking through their performances. I've heard better singing at school plays. Also really annoying- when I was booking tickets, site showed only a handful of seats available. When we were there, entire rows in the orchestra section were empty. Of course they were filled with people that moved up to occupy them even if they had bought cheaper tickets. Even the easy-to-please kids that I took thought it was terrible.

While the music and singing was very good, we were disappointed with the 2011 attitudes and the sarcasm that crept into the speaking. While Tevye was a fine singer, he was a little too amused with himself at times -- especially around the dream scene. When Tzeitel talks to Motel about going to her father, she SCREAMS at him in a tone that was not at all encouraging and quite overbearing...not fun to watch. The program said that Tevye had been in the play MANY MANY times. His job is to keep the tradition and do whatever he needs to do to keep the TRADITION in Fiddler. We were disappointed. There is too much REALLY good theatre in Chicago than to pay to see this performance.

Our box seats should have been listed as limited view. There was NO WAY to see over other people's heads. Also, 15 minutes into the performance a ruckus of elderly people emerged (maybe a bus, maybe discount tickets were sold last minute) disturbing those who arrived on time...then, the noise makers were offered BETTER unsold seats than ours. Not the best way to count on repeat patrons

This was a great musical. Not only was the music itself incredible (I thought the beat was exotic, oriental meets western in a modern way), but also the cast, especially the gentleman who played Tevye, was amazing. He was so funny. :D

I first saw a stage production of Fiddler in Chicago almost forty years ago. I loved it so much that I used two of the songs in my wedding. Returning to see this production was a gift from my husband and what a wonderful gift it was. This production stays true to the original story line. The characters are real and draw you into the story. We sat behind a family that ranged in age from about twelve to eighty. All loved it. How often can that happen?

We took the blue line into the loop and had a quick bite at Cafecito right next to the auditorium (delicious). John Preece was a wonderful Tevye. His voice resonated the beautiful theater and stole the show. The Pit Orchestra and rest of the cast and crew were great as well. Staff at the theater were polite and helpful in guiding us to our seats and answering any other questions. Bathrooms were clean and although there was a huge line for the women's bathroom (as per usual) there were a lot of stalls. Great show and experience at the Auditorium theater.

My wife and I love the story and the music. We thought the lead (Tevea) was excellent and worth the show, (Golda couldn't match his horsepower) but the other performers were good to questioning how they got the job. If you drop your high expectations of what theater has become in Chicago, it was still a very enjoyable evening. The musicians were great, the sets creative, the choreography was good and the Auditorium is classic.

"Fiddler on the Roof" was an outstanding performance. What was most captivating was the intertwining group choreography, probably the best I've ever seen. The wedding reception and the engagement to Lazar Wolfe were well-choreographed and a pleasure to watch. The sound quality at the Auditorium Theatre was excellent. All of the songs were clear to understand as was the dialogue. The music was enjoyable and well sung by the ensemble, especially John Preece and his daughters. A very entertaining show. I'm glad I was able to see it during this limited engagement.

Over the years we have seen many versions of "Fiddler on the Roof" and it has become a beloved favorite. However, this is the best version of this play we have ever seen! Thoroughly enjoyed the Show. Would have liked to see/hear a little more of the Jewish "flavor" & accent with which we are all familiar in the dialogue & singing from the main character. It maybe that the last performance for this venue that had the actors down because this could have been better. The lead while giving a good performance, it was not a stellar performance. John Preese seemed to lack the energy to take it over the top. At times, his voice and his ear were not in sync plus his dynamics could have been more pronounced. Supporting voices at times out shined the leads. The story was well represented and invoked the right feelings at the right times. Scenery design and presentation was well done and the lighting was on the mark. Overall, I would recommend this play. It was enjoyable.
