I have to admit, I'm a little biased because they're from my home town and I know the band. With that being said, I wouldn't bother listening to them if I didn't love them. They are fantastic musicians and they put on a great show. Each member has crazy stage presence. The members are old friends and the chemistry between them on stage is phenomenal. The shows always have surprises, like special guests, silly string, and cake. These boys know how to party. They did 2 great covers, as well as a long list of their own hits and B-sides. The show was looong, which is great because most bands only play for an hour and totally skimp on substance. I had to walk to a friend's house because I missed the train...but it was sooo worth it.

Deer Tick always rocks the house. I had always wanted to go to the Stone Pony so this was an ideal reason to make the trip from Providence. Deer Tick always puts on a great show and the audience is really into the show. I have seen Deer Tick perform in several different Rhode Island venues and they never dissapoint but seeing them in Bruce's house was an amazing experience. If you haven't seen Deer Tick live yet, what are you waiting for?

Really looked forward to this show! Have their cd's and Middle Brother's as well. So good in studio-so mediocre live. Band not tight, lead singer John McCauley pretty focused on the party boy I'm so drunk but still standing (and singing-I guess) vibe. Maybe I'm too old for the frat party vibe. (Though I'm sure that would be insulting to the band's NE grunge sensibilities.) I'll stick to Delta Spirit live.

Except for some douchy fans, an amazing and dynamic band. Little new tunes heavy, but can't blame em they're just havin a good time. McCauley was surprisingly coherent and on point.

These guys are legit. You know a band is the real deal when you go to a show, knowing most of their music, then they play a bunch of songs that you've never heard, BUT THOSE SONGS ARE SICK TOO! They felt like a throwback to the days of dirtbag rock and roll.

Felice Brothers: "what Dylan should have sounded like when he went electric". I like all of their stuff except for the new album, though I must say the songs off of Celebration sound much better live. My new favorite band over the past couple of years. saw them the following night in Burlington. Good show, but could have played a few more songs... Deer Tick: Seems like the worst name for a band ever, except if really fits them. NRBQ meets the Ramones mixed with a little Janes addiction. These guys really rock! great show! I would recommend seeing a show at the Royale. Great sound, nice people running the place, and plenty of room even with the show sold out.

Last time I was at Webster Hall was to see the Libertines some time ago - I forgot what a great venue it truly is. There is really no bad place to be, and the vibe this past Sunday night was terrific. John was on - and the comradery between the bands (Thomas Hardy, The Guards, and Deer Tick) was evident and only added to the amazing positive energy. You can tell these guys were having the time of their life, and we were as well. Hope to be back again soon!

They're 4 (5!) grown men, but they act like kids. They sound like grown ups, but they play like kids. Their act is a drug store for music addicts. I'm standing at the threshold. Gimme a beer!

Deer Tick: the name sounds like a parody, like a variation on a popular theme (back-to-the-Earth band names), but something that no one likes. Kind of like Spinal Tap, only this band is real, and the songs aren't as catchy. I'll admit that I'm biased in that I am not a Deer Tick fan, but I went to the show figuring that maybe I would like them. Some of the songs were good, and the venue is beautiful, but, essentially, these are just some guys in their twenties having a good time hovering between genres. The drummer rocked pretty heard; in fact, they aren't bad musicians. I think I was mostly turned off by the lead singer's drunken banter in between songs and the fact that none of the songs really grabbed me, aside from the couple of covers that they played and one original. Overall, it was okay. Maybe if I were a bigger fan of their music, I would have enjoyed the show more, but I'm not.

Awesome show... loved the little Deervana "Something In The Way" and every song they played was amazing. Ending with "Let's All Go To The Bar" never hurts too, with everyone on stage going bananas. Awesome.

I love this band, I love their energy and their delivery and their obvious love of rockin' out. I had very high expectations and this was the first chance I've had to see them live. They didn't disappoint ! It was a great gig. Particularly love ''Clownin' Around'' and John's Christmas song {which I've heard is titled ''Christmas in a Chinese Restaurant'' - possibly}. These fellas are the real thing playing real, new, raw music. GO SEE THEM !

The Royale is a great venue, very accessible beer and alcohol stations on both sides of the stage and to the rear. That's a big plus in my book. The view was also very good for the entire show despite the fact that there was a strange raised floor right in front of the stage...why would you RAISE the floor in front of the stage? Only thing I can imagine is that it's some sort of dance floor. Anyway, the Felice Bros. came out on fire. They played cuts from I believe every single one of their albums and there was excellent separation in the sound from each instrument. They're truly a unique band and I had a chance to talk quickly with Jimmy Felice after the show and he was very genuine and appreciative of the feedback. The only downside would be that they played such a short set as the opener. Unfortunately Deer Tick was not quite the same story. I was really excited to see them as it would be the first time and I'd been enjoying McCauley's albums for a while. Instead of the organic, indie-country hop that i was expecting they launched into an alternating set of homogenized Tom Petty-esque pop rock and muddy un-original guitar riff based easy rockers. There were still glimpses of what I came for when they played "Houston, TX" and "Dirty Dishes" but I was definitely disappointed after the awesome Felice Bros. opener.

Deer tick was spot on musically. They also also sound good, loud and clear. I felt like the set was too short and rushed. They only played for 90 minutes and that included encore. I suspect this was so we could get out early and Royale could bring in the clubbers. I felt like the venue had limited Deer ticks set as it didn't delve too far into their catalog. The Felice brothers, wow, talk about alot of energy and no good way of channeling it. I wasn't too thrilled on their sound, and one guy was actually trying to rock out with an according. They lacked style and hurt my ears.

Felice was tight, blending old school folk with psychedelic electronica flawlessly. Deertick was a huge let down following the energetic boys from catskill. The lineup should have been the other way around, and I would have said deertick was an ok opener

The show was great! Though, I would have appreciated a few more older tunes, but over all Deer Tick put on a good show. They're stage presence left a little to be desired, but all in all they moved around enough to make it interesting. Royale as a venue is pretty good, though this whole 7pm show stuff is lame. Either be a venue or be a dance, club why do bands want to play here? Stop it!

I fell in Love with the lead singer after his first solo and unforgiving stamina! This band plays for the love and for the fellowship of a brotherhood. After a 10.5 hour road trip I'd say this was definitely worth the trip from our little Island, Anna Maria. Thank you DEER TICK OOXOX!!!

The lead singer was wasted when I saw him when they played with Middle Brother. The Deer Tick set was very disappointing for the money I paid. I enjoy the studio albums but this was very disappointing. I guess I tend to go to awesome shows so maybe my bar is too high. Usually the musicians are there to serve the audience, not drinks to themselves (including during the show. I understand the rockn roll lifestyle, but cmon - if you put on a good show, I am more than happy to see you messed up, but this was mediocre at best. Alot of people I know swear by them, but I don't know if I could in good faith pay to see them again.

Absofuckinlutely fantastic! J-Roddy Walston and the Business made me feel like I was at a southern concert in a barn...I was waiting for sum moonshine to be passed around! J-Roddy is the human version of Animal from the Muppet Show...ridiculously entertaining and amazing talent/sound! Deer tick played in crazy good harmony! Love the lead singers voice...I love bands that sound better live...can be hard to come by but they did so looking effortlessly and enjoying every minute! Their time warp ending made me feel high for days! I had the good fortune to head him along with newly anointed band members (metal brothers I think was their name). It was only the second time they performed together and they lit it up. More mellow but good combo of talent. I sing the 'daydreaming' song in my head often...looking forward to their coming out! At some point everyone from every band that night came out and played together in one big lovefest which is what playins all about...loved it!

This was the third time I saw Deer Tick live and each time they get better and better. This is one of those bands that you absolutely have to experience live. Don't get me wrong, I listen to their CDs all the time, but there's nothing that can compare to a live Deer Tick performance. They're raw live and there's emotion that can't be captured with audio equipment.

I went there to see J Roddy and the Business mostly but also like Deer Tick. I felt like no one knew J Roddy's music even though it is amazing! I was upset that barely anyone seemed to be in to the music when they were playing. It's loud and fun rock music with zombie like staring bodies looking at them. Deer Tick was good but his voice gets annoying. It's whiney. So am I, I guess.

Deer Tick, that strangely named band, continues to impress this writer. Each time I see the band, this was my third time this year, they seem to get tighter and tighter and more confident. The voice of McCauley is stirring and when he lets his mates show their lungs they are impressive as well. Their music is very original cutting across the AMericana, alt-country, country and rock fields effortlessly.

Pure Fire from start to finish... Felice burned it up starting out with "honda civic". As always classics like Frankies Gun and Run chicken run got the joint real dancy...also a sweet rendition of whiskey in my whiskey! Deer Tick as always brought the juice, tons of energy. Lots of material off of Divine Providence, my highlight was hearing the Dennis tune. Newport Folk fest was relived again when the felice bros. joined tick on stage for a few. too much to highlight for the night...solid music

If you like listening to them on record you should avoid their live show because it will ruin their albums for you. They play with such heart, so much amazing raw talent and energy that it cannot possibly be capture in a studio. I thought I was going to hear an acoustic set and ended up having hearing trouble for 3 days. Seriously. The band also doubled their playlist (which was visible from the front where we were) and played for OVER 2 hours. They just kept going and going and had some Amazing covers (Cheap Sunglasses and La Bamba!) as were Johns solo performances. In short: SEE THIS BAND

I love Deer Tick, they are fantastic band! I have seen them quite a few times, since 2012, at Putnam Dan, The Met, Infinity Hall, Brooklyn Bowl…at a quite few more venues in new England. John McCauley is always having contact with audience, he has fun and enjoys performance himself. It s wonderful to watch and listen. Not in The Stone pony though… I ve seen them several years before in the stone pony, in 2014, as i remember, and it was all the same as yesterday they performed well, but McCauley himself was miserable. You could see it looking at him - poor guy couldn t wait for it to end. Four days before, I attended their gig at The Haunt - Ithaca, NY. It was fantastic performance. McCauley announced, that day before he was very sick, and was thinking to cancel the show, but he was touched that the show was sold out and decided to perform. At the end, the band came back for encore and played four more songs! 03/08/18, In the stone pony, which actually was sold out as well, they didn t spend literally one extra second on the stage… Is it the venue, or town, or state? Who knows… Any way, you want to see real performance of Deer Tick, don t go to see them in Asbury Park.

First of all, the venue was very trendy with a lot of hipsters. Second of all, I had been trying to see Deer Tick live for the past two years. I was really excited I got tickets to the show. However, the band was really boring and I was extremely disappointed. I was so bummed out I almost cried. I won't be going to any Deer Tick shows, but I am still a fan of their music.

The rhythm section killed it but the guitarists were pretty much phoning it in and at one point McCauley scolded a guy in the audience for clapping. Who the hell does that? "Hey, you look like you're having a good time. Cut it out."

First time seeing a concert at the 6th and I Synagogue. Will probably be my last. The sound was absolutely horrible. The bass drum overwhelmed everything and detracted from the rhythm section. The upright bass by contrast was inaudible. Same for the vocals; not loud enough or clear enough. Very muddy. We sat in the balcony, so maybe it was better on the floor. Moreover, the band was pretty low-energy (I know, its sounds like I am channeling an inner Donald Trump). But they just did their set, not appearing to be all that into the show, music or the crowd. Maybe they knew the sound was bad, or maybe they never bothered to spend anytime on a sound check and it was indicative of a larger apathy. The world may never know. Having said all that, I might go see Deer Tick again, as I like the band. But definitely not at 6th and I, and not for an acoustic show. Need to see them plugged-in at the 9:30 for a point of comparison.

Super intimate venue. I was against the barricade dead center. Nicole Atkins opened for Deer Tick and she was excellent. Her voice is amazing and her band is great! Definitely recommended! Deer Tick came out about 30-45 minutes after and they blew me away. This was my first time seeing them and I couldn't have asked for a better show. The band is incredible. The New Years Even Deer Tick show was incredible. They rocked so hard everyone had a great time. The venue was good, big enough to hold 400-500 but didnt feel crowded. Bar location was well through out and drinks were affordable. 4th time seeing the tick on this tour and they were awesome as usual, Turbo Fruits also really brought it. I hadn't been to the paradise since I saw Built to spill play there (probably back in 2002ish?) and it seemed a lot more open from what I remember but definitely a great venue for a show. I've been an avid fan of Deer Tick for almost two years. I never miss an opportunity to see them, unless I'm compromised in some way. When I learned that Deer Tick was playing the El Rey, I almost fainted. We flew from Boston to L.A., basically just to see Deer Tick. Why? First of all, the band never disappoints. Second of all, every performance is unique. John McCauley is an amazing singer and song-writer. As a consummate musician, he covers many other songs at Deer Tick concerts as well. Adam Yauch had just passed away when we were flying to L.A. What do you suppose Deer Tick covered that night? BEASTIE BOYS, in honor of Adam Yauch. (tears) It was an unforgettable tribute. I absolutely love John McCauley. And I can't wait to see his side project, Diamond Rugs, perform in NYC.
