Save rock and roll and go see this guy. Ike and IRA were red hot; playing at full throttle for an appreciative audience. The crowd was smallish, but filled with energy, which Ike seemed to feed off. If you're on the fence about seeing him live, know that this talented songwriter and rocking band showcase their blend of punk, rock, and blues as though they're entertaining a much larger crowd. Its an opportunity to see a great, but for now overlooked talent. Highlights included 7 Come 11, Two Weeks of Work, One Night of Love, Death Slide, Commie Drives a Nova, Charcoal Days, Black Kat. Hell they were all great. Great Scott is a small venue, with a long history of featuring indie-underground music. Crowd would have been larger had the show been scheduled when the local universities were in full session, but Ike was showed the love..

Another amazing show by Ike and band, covering both his best new songs and several from his earliest release. If you don't know Ike, I think the "Springsteen meets the Replacements" comparison I heard once is apt--though his new stuff is better than anything Bruce has done in decades and he has better hooks than the Replacements ever had. Just unbelievable that this guy is not playing bigger venues.Highly recommended.

Ike Reilly had a great presence on the stage and really did well interacting with the crowd. It was a bit disappointing that he didn't do any encore, but definitely a solid show. I found the vocals were drowned out a bit by the other instruments some times as well.

So Dr. Dan Dubelman joined me last night at the Mercury Lounge for what was the second of a two night stand by Ike Reilly and the Assassination and they did not disappoint. Lyrically driven rock and roll at it's best. A super tight 5 piece band where the keyboard player doubled as third guitar. Ike is still relatively unknown as the Merc was only about two thirds full, which makes him one of the best kept secrets in music. But I suspect with the release of the new record "Hard Luck Stories" and this tour which is getting great write ups in every town they hit, that is about to change. If you're in New York you missed your chance this go around, but if you have another opportunity to see this band, you should jump on it.

I've caught Ike and band a few times over the years, and now featuring some great tracks from the new release, they are better than ever. Ike is grittier version of Springsteen, a compelling and witty stage presence--who. unlike Bruce, can still write some killer hooks. (Check out "2 weeks of Work, 1 Night of Love" which was the opening number at the show.) Highly recommended, if Ike and his very tight band are anywhere near you, you've got to check them out.

These guys are something to see. Reilly's songs hilarious and rough. Tinley and Cottini rock, too. I loved it
