What another amazing performance at Hoyt Sherman Tuesday, June 20th. I was a little disappointed that it wasn't sold out for his first ever performance in Iowa. However the crowd that was there caught an evening of pure music. I was only familiar with his early material, which he did performe classic songs like Sunday paper and Time (which rocked). He played a generous numbers from his latest CD called Fast Forward (which I bought and have listened to it a number of times through, it awesome and you should buy it). Joe was very appreciative of the size of the crowd and was just a very cool show overall. If you see Joe Jackson coming to your city, buy a ticket and enjoy the show.

Joe Jackson's still got great voice! With the acoustics at the Strathmore I could hear every word he sang and said - rich and clear. Really enjoyed his take on the Duke Ellington songs. He is so talented. But of course I loved my old favorites. Hope the lady sitting next to me didn't mind my singing!

I hadn't seen Joe Jackson in more than 30 years. It was great to hear the Ellington tunes mixed in with his own hits from the past three plus decades. And the Bigger Band is fantastic: Regina Carter on violin, percussionist Sue Hadjopoulos, multi-instrumentalist and vocalist Allison Cornell, Jesse Murphy on bass, Adam Rogers on guitar, and Nate Smith on drums.

I have to admit that I totally lost track of JJ from the 80's. I go to Strathmore because I love the venue. The treat I had Saturday night, which was the first date of JJ's new tour, was a revelation. The best way to express how good this show was, is that if I knew every song, I could not have enjoyed it more. First of all, I didn't know that JJ just released a tribute CD to Duke Ellington. So, the song mix was about 50-50 Duke to JJ. The Duke arrangements were very rocked out and a joy to listen to; and, I forgot that I acutally remembered about half a dozen Joe Jackson tunes. The key to how good the show was, was how fabulous a band JJ put together. First you had the man, himself, an extraordinary pianist and occasional accordianist. The percussion section was hot, with Mike Smith (I think) on the kit and a gal on congas, etc. These folks, along with the bass guitarist (who sometimes played an upright as well as a tuba) were the pulse of the band. If that was it, I would have still been happy. But, Joe brought in a wonderful violinist and a second keyboard player who also had great vocals (Alison Cornell). These two really made the difference from it being a really good show to being a fabulously unforgettable experience. Don't miss it!!

Wow, what an amazing evening. Joe Jackson's voice was as strong as it was 32 years ago the last time I saw him. He was much more personable towards the audience. Obviously he's mellowed and he really seemed to be enjoying himself. He has surrounded himself with an amazing band. . . .all extremely gifted musicians. Allison who sang vocals was truly wonderful and also played keyboard, banjo and violin. What a great night. I would see them again and would recommend anybody see them even if you're not familiar with the band. You won't be disappointed!!

Joe Jackson toured a few years back as just a trio, but for this tour has his "bigger band" with a group that does justice to Joe's own incredible talents....About half the show featured material from the new CD "the Duke" with Joe's lively and fun arrangements of Duke Ellington material, but the rest sampled the amazing music Joe Jackson has written and performed over three decades, including his big hits and great songs from Look Sharp, I'm the Man, Night and Day, Body and Soul, Big World, Laughter and Lust, and Rain. Strathmore is a great venue that did justice to one of the true musical geniuses of our time.

I have been a long time Joe Jackson fan, however this is the first time I've seen him live. His interpretation of the Duke Ellington songs was amazing. He also played every one of his hits in a new and exciting way. A lot of bands that you listened to 20+ years ago look totally pained when it comes time to play their old hits (usually why people bought tickets to hear in the 1st place). Joe was so into them and used the Bigger Band to put on refreshing spin on them. Loved it!

I have been a fan of Joe Jackson's since 1982. It's been a dream of mine to see him in concert. He was absolutely fantastic. He played old tunes as well as some new stuff and some cover songs. I was happy to see that the new stuff still had his signature mark on it. He even reworked some of the classics such as Stepping Out by slowing the tempo. It was brilliant. His original bass guitarist is still with him and the drummer and lead guitarist were all on point. I didn't realize he had such a keen sense of humor. And at the end of the night, he stood alone on stage and thanked his audience with such gratefulness. I will mark this off my bucket list and remember it always with fondness.

I am lucky enough to have seen him multiple times and WOULD NEVER NOT GO when he is in town (and probably travel if he were not). It was my 62 birthday and there is no one I would have preferred spending it with. I am an atheist but just in case I hope God protects him and we can enjoy him for a long, long time. He REALLY seemed to enjoy himself as did his excellent musicians. Thank you Joe!

This was an excellent show. I liked the opening act a lot (which was JJ solo on Piano for quite a few songs). The rest of the show was excellent and the band (with Graham Maby featured on bass) was tight and sounded excellent. JJ played many favorites and a lot of new songs which sound fresh and were very good. He even debuted a new song which had a punk edge to it. I would have liked to have heard more early 80's but I think as an artist evolves, the library becomes to great to just concentrate on nostalgia for nostalgia sake. Overall a great show and the venue was perfect for this artist repertoire. First show since the prior July and they did not seem Rusty at all. The Crowd was cool and the staff at theatre incredibly friendly and PRO.

Unlike other concerts, where I have had to learn to like the new music, this wasn't the case. Joe Jackson was very true to who he is as he always has been with every new album. I loved the concert I wanted to sit through another one right after it. I hope that everyone that sees him this year enjoys it! I hope he tours in South Florida again soon. My thanks to Ticketmaster. I will do my best to be brief, keeping in mind the old adage: Young writers, if they are able to refrain from writing, should not hesitate to do so. (Ok, so I am not that young.) I previously saw Joe Jackson in 1986 (Big World Tour) at a large venue in Chicago. It was nothing short of thrilling to see him again in a more intimate setting. He is, to overstate the obvious, an extraordinary musician and songwriter, who has tremendous range. He opened, alone, and did "Its Different For Girls" and "Be My Number #2." I could have been satisfied and gone home right then, he was so fantastic! The encore of "On Your Radio" (at full "new wave/punk" energy) and "Slow Song", which was achingly beautiful and poignant, once again illustrated the tremendous genius, range and versatility of this performer

Joe Jackson was his own opening act, followed later by his band members. Great to see Graham Maby back. The Apollo has great acoustics and is comparable to The Beacon of Radio City. I loved the mix of new and old songs, with many of the new ones given a special live treatment. Great tribute to David Bowie and nod to Steeley Dan.

Joe Jackson never disappoints. I have seen him in concert every time he has come to NY since the early 80s and each show is unique and personal. His conversation with the audience pulls you in and he gives real insight of his musical inspiration and background stories on some of his songs. I never tire of seeing him live. The band is always tight, never a missed note. Joe always does one or two cover songs and puts his unique spin on them. The last tour he did "Paved Paradise and Put Up a Parking Lot" in a New Orleans Jazz Style. This time, he paid homage to one of his great influences Steely Dan by playing "Night by Night." I also love that he ALWAYS performs "Is She Really Going Out With Him?" and changes the song up ever so slightly each time.

He doesnt play long enough. That is always my complaint for the guy who I've been seeing in concert for 30 years. How do you get a guy to play closer to 3 hours rather than a tad under 2? I guess you dont because his shows still sell out. His new album (Fast Forward) is so so; some of the songs are good. Others not so much. And so when he plays half of them I get resentful because I want to hear stuff from the past. No not jus the music from the 70s but actually from "Vol. 4" and "Big World". Complaining and whining aside he plays beautifully. The band was tight and the venue is intimate. The acoustics are great. I'm happy to see Joe every time he comes to town.

Joe Jackson s performance on opening night in the heart of downtown Los Angeles was astonishing as he opened and closed with the music of his early career. He opened with Different for Girls and ended with Slow Song then unexpectedly encored the audience with One More Time. Along with intertwining his newest more relaxed music from his Fast Forward album release throughout the concert. Joe s singing voice still sounds like it did back in the 1980s wonderful! His jazzy piano playing was masterful and his witty humor refreshing, yet his expressions of a warm grateful performer were detected as he said good bye to the sold out audience.

Jackson's San Antonio performance was the last in an 88 show tour and maybe that explains the exceptional energy of the performance by Joe Jackson as well as his band. The show featured a good mix of Jackson's music spanning many years. He also played several songs from his newest album, Fast Forward, which also proved entertaining. He was really good. Maybe played too much off his Fast Forward CD, but some of it was good. He played a few too many slow songs, but that's just part of what he is. Having been "out of touch" with Joe Jackson for at least a decade, our party of four was unsure of what to expect when Joe took the stage and began his solo warm up. We were soon being lulled by the rich sound and deep emotion in his keyboard playing but less enamored with his already quirky voice, which may have been suffering from fatigue . That quickly changed! It's hard to put into words how the intense energy of the full band's performance and Joe's vocals hit us all as they drove through old favorites and new pieces from his latest album. This turned out to be one of the best concerts any of us had ever attended, and between us that's hundreds! We're ready to travel any reasonable distance to see them again, but this time we'd shell out for the best seats we can get! If you like Joe's work, DON'T MISS THE CHANCE TO SEE THIS CONCERT!

Joe started strong from the start with 3 classics solo. He then approiately mixed some new album cuts and Jackson standards. The band was exceptionally spot on and maintained a strong vibe that was unrelenting. Joe was flawless with his keyboarding - believe he too was growing stronger as the set progressed. The whole crowd was caught in the mood and the momentum of the playlist perfectly captured the evening. As expected, the pinnacle of the show was amazing, closing with his best written songs. Am a 45 year concert veteran logging nearly 1000 shows, but this one evening had the type of magic between musician and crowd that easily ranks in my TOP 10. So impressed, am going to KC show today.

I have been a fan of Joe Jackson for over 30 years. His range of musical styles is what draws me to his work. This was the first opportunity for me to see Joe Jackson live, I have seen recordings of live concerts and have seen what he puts into a show so I was excited. Seeing him in the Michigan Theater is a perfect venue. Comfortable and NOT a stadium experience. I had not heard any of the Fast Forward album before that night. I especially enjoyed the selections from the New Orleans performances and the new unrecorded selection the band performed. Joe was even better than I'd hoped. He mixed old songs with some really good new ones, and his band was amazing- super tight and tasteful. However... the PA mix was mediocre, and as the show went on, way too loud, maybe to compensate for the hearing loss in his older fans. As for those fans, I could believe whole rows were going out for beer during some of his best tunes, and it seemed like half the audience was watching and listening through their phone while recording it. Really? You paid $60-100 to watch a YouTube video?

Joe came out and started the show by himself and played It's Different For Girls and My Hometown and hit every vocal spot on. He was in good spirits and played a nice mix of new and classic hits. Really a fantastic show.

Joe Jackson is always worth a trip. I would not want to miss it. Good combination of old favorites Fast Forward album (=newer favorites) and a brand new song. Can't wait 'til the next one!

Joe took the stage by himself and informed us that he was the opening act. He did 4 solos, Be My Number 2, Hometown, It's Different for Girls, and a New Orleans version of Joni Mitchell's Big Yellow Taxi. His vocals were a little strained on the first song, but once his voice got warmed up he sounded as good as ever. As always, his piano playing was excellent. Graham Maybee joined him for Is She Really Going Out With Him. The other 2 band members joined in for the rest of the concert. They did songs from Joe's latest album, Fast Forward, as well as many songs from various albums spanning his career. I really enjoyed Sunday papers. He ended the night with Slow Song, my favorite. The band members exited the stage during the song, leaving Joe to finish the concert. As with all of Joe's music, the volume of the vocals and instruments were mixed to perfection. The concert was enjoyable from start to finish. They rocked during the faster songs and Joe brought a tear to my eye during Hometown.

Joe and The Band are first rate as expected. Very engaging and the musicianship was better than I imagined. I am not normally a complainer, but the heat at The Taft was unacceptable. The people sitting next to me had to leave, and the band even mentioned it a few times. I feel Joe cut the show short because of the excessive heat,

As a college student in the 80s I was introduced to Joe Jackson when listening to the "Future of Rock & Roll". Through the decades I've always wanted to hear JJ live. He was amazing! His voice, the songs and the band were brilliant!

One of the best shows I have been to. He was amazing. Played for over 2 hours. Did all his old and many new songs. His band was also really good. I would 100% recommend seeing him to anybody who missed this show.

What a great show at the Apollo! Joe Jackson showed off his talents at the keyboard and his vocals never sounded better to me. Perhaps the acoustics of the Apollo contributed to a better sound than what I heard at Madison Square Garden back in 1984. His band played with a visible enthusiasm that matched Joe's virtuosity. Joe also seems to have mellowed over time and appeared more gracious toward the audience. I liked the touch of having Joe open solo on the keyboard on Different For Girls, with each band member coming out individually to join him and then ending with each band member departing individually on Slow Song. A great night!

Great show. Joe played for over 2 hours with one great song after another. Vocals are still there and the band was tight. Only negative was the cramped seats. I am not that big a guy but not only was I rubbing shoulders with each person on either side of me, my legs had no where to go.

Show was 2 hours 20 minutes long, no intermission. He played ALL my fave older tunes, and threw in a bunch from a new album as well. The band was first rate, and Joe Jackson is quite an impressive keyboard guy as well as a great composer and singer. My only complaint was the weak inadequate AC in the theater on this hot and steamy night. Even Joe Jackson commented on it from the stage!

Joe Jackson has lost his spark. We've seen him twice before, the most recent being 15 years ago. He played mostly new songs, a few old songs, and a couple of covers. The first half hour was him playing without the band. The crowd was motionless.

My wife is a long time fan, and I have become fond of JJ music. Neither of us had ever seen him. Though I wish I could have seen him 20 or 30 years ago, he was great at age 61. The sound was great, well mixed, clear, dynamic. Vocal were on the money. No loss of high range, great harmonies. The music was fantastic. A mix from the years with a couple of cool covers. Some classics were rearranged and sounded better than ever.

From the opening notes of "Different for Girls" to the closing notes (played without hands) of "Stepping Out" this was a great show. 2 hours of sheer pleasure. He played just about everything I might have wanted to hear plus some terrific new material from Fast Forward I didn't know I wanted to hear. Joe and the band really seemed to be enjoying themselves as much as the audience, and the audience loved them. Several standing o's. 4 outstanding players both musically and vocally. Can't wait for him to return!

Was really pleasantly surprised that his vocals are as good if not even better than the last time I saw him (sometime in late 80's, early 90's). I hadn't heard any of the new album and I like what I heard so far. I only wished he had managed to squeeze in a few more old favorites; Kinda Kute, One More Time, I'm the Man. But like he stated at the end of the show, he was a bit knackered. Overall great experience.

Although he seemed a little tired his voice was great and his band and was on point! I always enjoy his shows and this was no different. Graham Maby was a big influence on me playing bass in the 80s and he was excellent. There were some tunes I wish I heard but they did a nice mix of classics with his new songs. I'm glad he came to Boston a second time on this tour.

I've been an "edge-case," Joe Jackson fan since "Look Sharp," came out. I was a bit reticent due to the sheer virtuosity. I "liked" him during the new wave/punk era of "Sunday Paper," and "Is She Really Going Out With Him," and kind of scratched my head as he got a bit lounge-ish, and then into the big band era with "Jumpin' JIve." I came back a bit when I heard "Wild Wild West," off of the live New York album, and then just stopped looking for his releases. Then, last October, I saw him at the Hardly Strictly festival in Golden Gate Park, San Francisco, and so I bought tickets for both of the Bay Area shows - The Palace Of Fine Arts in San Francisco, and at The UC Berkeley Theater across the bay. What a treat this was - especially in San Francisco at the Palace of Fine Arts which has very good acoustics. He opened the show with a solo set of 5 songs or so, and then the bass player came out, and assisted in finishing the solo set before playing the 8 syncopated notes that were the dead giveaway that the next song was, "Is She Really Going Out With Him." If you saw the Golden Gate Park Show - it was the same opening. He went through a very wide range of material, but focused on Fast Forward, the album released the day of his performance in Golden Gate Park. The new material is very good. I was really impressed with his cover of Steely Dan's "Time Out Of Mind." It was all good. I would highly recommend this show. It was priced right, and just good.

I have been a JJ fan since the 80's, and followed his amazing career and enjoyed the diverse and unbridled talent that Joe brings to the music world. I was looking forward to seeing and hearing him (and long-time bassist Graham Maby) at the intimate venue of the Palace of Fine Arts in San Francisco. Joe's selection of old, new, and cover songs did not disappoint - I truly enjoyed every song from albums like Night & Day, Volume 4, Body and Soul, and even Look Sharp! That said - the sound set-up was HORRIBLE! From our seats (Row F, 18 & 20) it was SO loud as to be painful - I literally asked my wife to leave after 15 minutes. Does the sound engineer or team not test the sound out in the theater when setting the volume for amplification? Every peak vocal or instrumentation was truly crushing to my ears, and made what could have been a perfect concert a truly painful and disappointing one. I highly suggest that the folks who set-up at the PofFA figure this out, or I will not be attending any more concerts there! So - would I recommend Joe Jackson - absolutely! Would I recommend seeing him - or anyone - at the Palace of Fine Arts - NO - not if they can't figure out that a softer sound would make it much more enjoyable.

I had never seen Joe Jackson before. I have always liked his music and thought it would be a good show but he exceeded even my expectations. He is quite a showman and still has a lot of passion in his singing & delivery. I also liked that he took the time to explain his recent material which most people are not familar with.

I've been a Joe Jackson fan since Look Sharp. I've seen him on at least 5 occasions throughout the many years of genre changes and always looked forward to more music from this great talent. His voice is still as strong as ever. This show however was a little disappointing for a huge fan of his original bass in the forefront, punkish style music. Joe spent all of his time at the keyboard, playing mellower versions of a few older songs, which did work well for the Night and Day and Body and Soul material. One More Time and particularly Sunday Papers were the only songs that brought me back to that true rock and roll, rebellious attitude that Joe used to carry on his sleeve. He played quite a bit of new material, in which I had no idea he had released. But, I missed classics like I'm the Man, On Your Radio and Got the Time. Had he performed those 3, my 14 year old son and I would have enjoyed the show much more than we did.

The show featured a lot of old hits and new numbers, several covers, and solid musicianship. Not a lot of flash, but the band sure made up for it.

The concert exceeded expectations. Joe is his own opening act, starting off with a half dozen songs performed solo on the keyboards, then joined by his full band. While heavy on new material, the new material is really strong, and he played nearly all of the hits you wanted to hear except for "Breaking Us in Two." His banter, commentary, and sense of humor is in fine form, his band is tight, and it was a truly amazing evening.

I loved how he opened with just him and his piano. did an awesome John Lennon cover and many new and old Joe Jackson classics. It's my rd time seeing him and he just keeps getting better and better. Spreckels Theater could really use some TLC. I was at the top. our chairs were broken and they had a maintenance man come while we were there and "fix" them. The dust was unreal on the ceiling. Lights were burnt out everywhere and there were holes where I'm assuming vent covers used to be. Thank god it has terrific sound.

Joe's voice hasn't changed and he sounded great. He played his hits and new songs solo and with a band. The new songs were very good, which with some artists isn't always true. He seemed happy to be there and chatted between songs. Great concert! See him if you can.
