At this concert, one of my many dreams came true. I got to see my idol, my favorite artist preform, right in front of me!!!! But enough about me. Julians shows are absolutely spectacular if words could even describe how errific this man is...at life! The venue was great, and the crowd amazing, it was a full house. His voice sounded as amazin as ever, and he was just great as i can seem t stop mentioning. Go see him the first chance you get, ive seen him twice, but this show was by far the best. After, the show came to its end, which was very sad. I could listen to him play for days if it was possible. I waited out in the pouring rain, and I got to meet him. He spoke to me for a long as he could, and was glad to talk and take photos and sign autographs for the few people who love him just as much as i do. He was so respetful and nice at all times, and when he had to go i dont think i ever heard someone say sory so many times. He signed so many autographs, and multipl ones. He gave each of us personal attention, and carried out conversations as best he could. Julian is a MUST see, and if yo get the chance..GO! do not question it, GO! GO GO GO!!!!!

Keep an eye out for Haim. This three-sister band is incredible and they have some nice material for an album. Looking forward to the release! Julian and company were outstanding. Every song came across loud and clear. Would've liked to hear a couple more Strokes songs, but I also realize this is Julian and his solo work, not a blast from the past tour. Awesome show! Way too short!

He was amazing. If I had more words to say, I would, but there are just no words to describe this guy's stage presence, performance, attitude, music, talent, I could go on--but as I said, I have no other words to say. Best concert of the year. HANDS DOWN. JC, you rule.

Although it was not the Strokes, Julian was on his game and his performance was great! The Growlers came on first and they did not disappoint. They are quirky but great.

I have been a fan of the Strokes and Julian for almost ten years, and even I didn't expect his performance to be as amazing as it was. Not only did his voice sound amazing, his band performed exceptionally well, and were accompanied by an ever-changing stage set that went perfectly with each song that was performed. He opened with Ludlow St., where images like the ones found in the preview to his new album were projected onto a background screen, as well as adjoining screens on other parts of the stage. The scene changed from there with every song. There was a short 8-9 minute intermission where Julian and the band changed clothes from black to white, which made the show feel like a true performance. He seemed happy and the vibe throughout the concert was nothing but positive. Two fans jumped onto the stage at one point, grabbed and held on, while Julian just continued singing. It was so much fun, and definitely one of the best shows I've been to in a long time.

The sound got a little better in the second half, but a little too loud and impossible to understand the lyrics with the acoustics of the Palace. A venue made for concerts would have been better.

The show was great, we had to drive three hours but it was all worth it we got stuck in traffic and we were scared that we were going to be late. we got there around 6 30 there was two lines but we had our tickets already so we got to be on the line that was shorter. we went in and rushed to the front of the stage so we can be close to Julian Casablancas we were there waiting for him to come i was over joyed i was finally going to see my idol. when he came up and started singing it was amazing he read my poster that i made for him with the help of a lovely friend. i put the poster up and he read the front first "Red Light is my favorite" then i put the other side and it read "I'll try anything once" and he pointed at me. while he played it i called a very important person and they really enjoyed it. and at the end of the show he reached down to touch peoples hands and i held his hand!!!!!!!! i felt so good inside it was great. and after that they were throwing the set list's so i caught one. we left to buy stuff. i bought a shirt and a poster and well we left home. it was the best night of my life

Julian is decent on stage as a performer, but... The set was a whopping 52 minutes. Is it only rockers twice his age who'll play 2 hour sets? Kinda ironic. Or maybe that's all he had as material. Julian was only lit from behind...you could only see his face when people took flash photos. Which is sad, since he has a nice face. At least from photos I've seen... The sound engineering was atrocious. Yeah, I know, everyone expects it to be way loud, but his reedy tenor voice was overwhelmed by over-amped accompanying musicians on all but a couple of songs. For his die-hard fan base, I guess they know the music already, but it was frustrating to have to strain to hear him singing.

Great!! GREAT opening band....Casablancas played for too little, c'mon at least an hour! And he could have done more Strokes covers....oh & we should always be able to hear the singers voice clearly, so LOWER the volume on the speakers....

instruments were so over amped that i could not hear julian sing. he forgot lyrics and stopped during one song. he coughed some, seemed tired. why do performers feel the need to use the f word on stage toward their fans? the encore was the quietest i have ever heard, and i think almost everyone in attendance was not really sure the show had ended when it ended. and the show was rather short. the drummer is awesome, the band members perform on lots of various instruments and are very good. the band sound was tight, but loud loud loud.

Other than the over 30 minute setup between bands, and the notably bad opening band, the show was insane. I was bummed they brought out a guard rail to put some distance between the crowd and the stage, but seeing as how someone almost pulled Julian offstage, I guess it was a reasonable action. Overall it was a great time.

Julian is awesome, super cool and funny. He was really friendly and sounded great! It was great to see him in a smaller venue that I would never be able to see The Strokes. My only complaint is that tickets were $30 after all the fees and the show was SHORT! His is "big time" though, so I guess that's all the time $30 would buy with him??? Anyway, still loved seeing him so close and personal!

I was surprised by the size of his band, but it worked out great. Very bass heavy synths and heavy percussion made the house shake. His voice sometimes got lost in the mix but the band did the album justice. The only downside was the short set and the annoying groupies screaming in my ear. Even Julian seemed annoyed by it. When he was trying to talk, he couldn't be heard over the screeching. He made a side remark that noone was listening to him. I was, and it was great.

Julian Casablancas was surrounded by a bunch of young folks , some new listeners and others well ...big time fans. Just seeing his face was blinding, he is such a beauty of a man! His voice caught everyone by the ears and pulled them in, as mine, like no other performer playing at this venue. I cant wait till he passes through Houston yet again.

I find it somewhat odd that a 58-year-old music lover like me absolutely relates to the music of a guy in his 30's, but Julian's solo music is pop genius. I love the Strokes, but didn't immediately click to the songs on "Phrazes for the Young." But now it's my favorite album of the moment. The production is great, and there are so many sub-melodies going on in those songs that I had to hear them live.

Julian Casablancas puts on a great performance with an outstanding supporting band. The tracks of Phrazes for the Young are great and the rare performances of a couple Strokes songs just proves that he is the only irreplaceable part of that band. Great show and highly recommended.

Despite an interminable wait for them to come on, Julian and his band performed superbly. Though they didn't play the whole song list from Phrazes For The Young, they definitely played all the right ones. Also, two Strokes songs didn't hurt. The crowd, though surprisingly young, was very enthusiastic, causing Julian himself to remark more than once on their noise, albeit in a positive manner. One of the better concerts I've seen this year.

The venue was great! I loved that such a big name played a small venue; it was so personal. The people were so nice; both the people that work at First Avenue and the other fans. I've only ever been to gigs in Los Angeles, Ca, and my experience at this show was the best by far! I would definately go back to watch another show. To be completely honest, I went to see Julian Casablancas because my little sister is the huge fan! She had the time of her life and I couldn't help enjoying myself as well! The show was great! Both performers were very talented and I would pay more if need be to see them again.

If you have seen the Strokes this show would be exactly what you would expect. Great music, a whole lot of "entertainmentship", and sounds pretty much exactly like the album. I really enjoyed the show and thought it was great but probably wouldn't go two nights in a row because I think it would be the exact same show. It was a freaking awesome show!! The only reason I gave it four stars instead of five is because we had to wait way to long for the show to start. Then had to wait even more after Funeral Party (opening act) performed and right before Julian set up to start his show. The set was perfect and even threw in a couple of songs in there from the Strokes. I wish he would have dismissed himself a bit better, by maybe even saying a few words, or indicating to the crowd that, that was his last song. After the last song he just kinda flew of the stage, and it took a while for everyone to capture the idea that, that was the end of the show. LOL! Other than that, we had a real good time. I live in San Antonio, and drove all the way to Houston and back on the same night for the venue. Definitely worth the drive, and would do it again today! Hope to see the Strokes on tour soon.

Very good performance overall. His voice is incredible live, sounds just like his albums. Of course the lyrics added to his voice make it all come together. The only downfall was that it was far too short. He maybe played for about 45 minutes, and I mean come on we come to see the main event not an hour and a half of intro bands and set up. It's hard not to be disappointed when the second you start getting into the concert it ends. Overall Quality = fantastic Quantity = two thumbs down.

I really enjoyed getting to see Julian Casablancas at a smaller venue. I've seen him on stage with The Strokes the past two times they've come and those shows were at the Fillmore. The Fillmore is not as intimate or cool as the Ogden. He is a really good performer and is always really cool to this fans. I am a huge fan as well so it was a lot of fun!

Julian was fantastic! A little drunk, but fantastic. The performance was great and the opening band, Funeral party, was superb as well!

Only Julian Casalancas could make fans fight to get closer to him while playing a Christmas song. This was the greatest live event I have been to because of the excitement and craziness coming from both Julian and the packed crowd. Julian Is the boss, hands down!

Julian Casablancas was really great...but it was too bad that you could barely hear his vocals over the band. Funeral Party, the opening band was amazing! They were so into the music and it was really fun to watch.

As an avid fan of the Strokes, I was excited at the release of Julian Casablancas' new CD, and loved it from the first listen. I bought tickets the same day I heard he was coming to Cleveland. Then I started reading reviews from other shows, and I was really afraid this was going to be a bad evening. Contrary to those reviews, the show was great. Funeral Parade, the opening band, was full of passion and energy and fun to listen to. Julian's voice was fantastic, and he really engaged with the crowd. The Strokes songs he chose to do were classics and varied from high energy to ballad. Not the Strokes, but still a great show. I'm curious as to why he likes the stage so dark, but after a while I got used to that, and it added to the mystery. I would definitely recommend seeing the show.

The set seemed short but maybe because you could never have enough of Julian Casablancas. His voice was amazing and the album sounds light years better live. It was also a treat that he played strokes and a b-side. Starland Ballroom, though different to get to, was an awesome, relaxed venue. The layout is very open, giving you full view of the stage regardless of where you're standing. I liked that I was about a meter from the stage barrier on the side and could merely turn around to order a drink from the bar.

The venue was amazing, very small and intimate. You could see very well even from the back of the room. I got to meet Julain before the show and he was very chill, we talked a bit and got some photos with him. He was very gracious and not at all full of himself like alot of celebs. His performance itself blew me away. This guy has the most amazing voice, his range is superb. He sounded great. All in all a great show!

The show started off with opener Funeral Party who, beforehand, I had never heard of. Funeral Party put on a great show and I'd definitely see them again. Julian and crew came out at around ten and started off with some of the more widely known songs from the album which got the crowd going. Towards the middle of the show Julian threw a cup of water into the air and it landed on one of the keyboards putting it completely out of commission for the rest of the concert. The keyboardist bounced back well and just pulled out a bass guitar. He covered Hard to Explain and I'll Try Anything Once which were some of the high points of the event. All in all I was happy with the concert even though there were times when the female percussionist got lost and didn't know what she was doing.

The show was great for a hour, and then I realized it was only going to be an hour. They sounded great, and performed their music well, but an hour long? You have to be kidding me. Uncool in my opinion.

Julian Casablancas sounded great, but didn't play for very long. If you only have one album that's understandable, but he didn't even play all the songs from the album. The opening band (Dan Black) was atrocious. It was 3 people, 1 of them played an instrument, one held some instruments and one sang (kind of) and played with a computer. Perhaps their genre is not my cup of tea, but I can usually appreciate someone without necessarily loving their music - that didn't happen here. There was also a long wait in between sets.

This was such a great concert, and Julian was absolutely amazing. There was a really great sort vibe for the whole show, and the venue was pretty much ideal. Not too big, but not too small either. Julian was brilliant. He's one of those people who sound fantastic live and on CD. Definitely a show I would go to again.

From the second Julian stepped on stage I knew this was going to be interesting. He kicked water all over his keyboard and shorted it out on the first song. He fell off the stage during the second song. He was very obviously hammered which is no big deal but the level of professionalism was at rock bottom. He may have got through 6 songs before the show abruptly ended. I left the show confused and I actually felt sorry for him and his band members.

Julian gave a fantastic performance. He was engaging and interacted really well with the audience making it a fun show. The sound was a bit bass-heavy, but I prefer it that way over being high on the treble. The band was super dynamic and true to sound, as well as Julian's vocals. So happy to have seen him perform live after listening to Phrazes For the Young over and over after its release. The set was a bit short at an hour. A few more songs would have brought it to five stars for me. Highly recommended though!
