I've been listening to Duke for a while now, so when the chance to see them live came up, I jumped at it. It was definitely worth the drive and ticket price. The whole band delivered a performance that was as good as if not better than their recorded albums and Leila's energy on stage was infectious! Not to mention, the openers Hacienda were amazing! After 2 songs I was converted to a fan!

The Duke Spirit never disappoints. This was my third time seeing them live and they always deliver a killer performance, full of intensity and great music. They are a band I always try to catch when they're around and the Roxy was a great venue to see them at. I can't wait until March when their new album, Bruiser, drops and hope to see them during their next tour again. Anyone who wasn't at the Roxy on 12/30/2010 definitely missed out on a great time. They helped me end 2010 on a high note! A major bonus to the evening was that I also managed to score a meet & greet opportunity (thank you the people who put the Facebook contest together and made it happen!) and the entire band couldn't have been more humble, gracious, and cool to talk to. I'm wishing them all the best in 2011 and hope their new album brings them continued success and many more adoring fans. XO

First off, I love The Duke Spirit and they gave a fine performance. However, whether it was the band's choice, or just bad sound technicians at The Roxy, I was deafened by this show, and it's now two days later and my ears have not fully recovered. I saw the band at their last Roxy show, as well as at The Troubadour and the sound wasn't such a problem, why this time? I don't know, but it was pointless to have blasted out so loudly, it only made The Duke Spirit's fine songs indecipherable much of the time. I'm a veteran concert goer for over 30 years, having attended hundreds of shows, and this ranks within the top 3 for awful, loud sound. Both opening acts, Free the Lions and Trash Kings also had too high a volume, but didn't suffer from the distortion evident during the headliner's set (and both gave great performances). It's a shame because if this problem hadn't occurred I would give this show 5 stars. I'll think twice before I set foot in The Roxy again, my ears ain't getting any younger!
