Chrissie Hynde

CHRISSIE HYNDE IN CONCERT:New wave icon Chrissie Hynde became a superstar in the '80s with The Pretenders, lending her swaggering croon to effortlessly cool hits like "Brass in Pocket" and "Back in the Chain Gang". More than three decades later Hynde is as vital as ever -- her 2014 solo debut album Stockholm was a critical and commercial success, landing on charts around the world and drawing her out for a highly anticipated tour. Her beloved contralto voice hasn't changed a lick, sounding as fresh as ever on new cuts like "Dark Sunglasses" and "You Or No One". Hynde described the new album as "Abba meets John Lennon", and she's not off the mark -- her dance-worthy live shows combine the best of disco, rock, and pop, making for a must-see concert experience fans won't soon forget.

I have seen the Pretenders- Chrissie Hynde probably 4-5 times over the past 30-years, I know that she is with a new band now, but I felt that she didn't have the same energy that she usually brings. The overall set was only about 90-mins total, she did do a few of the old stuff, but not enough of the great hits. Her focus seemed on telling the audience/paid guests not to have their cameras on and she didn't want to sign my old Pretenders album that I had with me at the front of the stage. Don't know why she didn't want us to take any pixs? I thought the more exposure the better? I can't understand why she really didn't want to warm up the audience more?

What can I say but, Amazing! The Balboa theater is an awesome venue, small intimate, great acoustics,. The seats are tight though, so if you're tall your knees will be in the head of the guy in front of you. But I love that there are speakers in the hallway and restroom so I didn't miss a beat. Chrissie is more badass than she was 35 years ago.

Chrissie (65) opened for Stevie Nicks (68) and they each put on a clinic for how to engage a crowd and perform. Both performers effortlessly went through their sets and frankly sounded better "live" than most new acts do today coming out of a recording studio. It was refreshing do not hear auto-tune at a live concert. The only disappointing part of Chrissie's show was when she made a political statement. She dedicated the song Holy Communion to as she called it, "These So-called Christians who will be voting for a certain guy this Tuesday, yeah, they're really Christian!" The crowd cheered/booed about 50/50. Not sure what's to gain from alienating 50% of your paid audience... John

Great sound. Great concert. However Ms. Hynde made poor use of the Fword in her commentary - she seemed to be an angry person in between songs. I came for a concert not angry political commentary. The concert was great but only 50% probability I would go again (I attend about 20 concerts a year). Did I mention a great sound and concert?

The night started so aptly with The Platters "The great Pretender" playing which was followed by her grand entrance. The crowd welcomed her with a standing ovation. She has not lost her stage presence and she commanded the audience's complete attention. She blazed through Classic Pretenders songs in between her new material from her solo project. The last time I saw Chrisse play Los Angeles was at the House of Blues Sunset for the release of The Pretenders Compilation Pirate Radio. The night held the same energy and magic of that show even without Martin Chambers the last remaining member of the Original line up. Chrissie vocals have the unique ability to recreate the same sound of her recordings if not better in live setting. She made several encores and promised at the end that she would return to play Los Angeles soon. If and when she does I will be there! I just hope its at the Palladium or the Music Box You simply cannot 't sit down for a performance with Great Chrissie Hynde

First classic tune played was talk of the town, one of the faves that I wanted to hear the most and got everyone on their feet. An unexpected treat was the phone call and sounded as good as it did in the 80s.

Chrissie did a great job blending old Pretenders music with her new songs. She had a very solid band with her. Rock on! BTW, I also like the fact that she bans camera phones from her performance.

Chrissie's performance was amazing! She performed all her hits, gave two encores and was very entertaining. There were moments when people in the crow tried taking pictures after we were asked not to. The unfortunate part of that, was that she kept being interrupted. Threw some people and was very outspoken about photography. Other than that, she totally blew it out of the water!

I have been wanting to take my son to a concert. He is only 7 and this ended up being perfect. No cussing or big show, just a bunch of musicians rockin! Chrissie still sounds great and looks cool as shit. All the musicians in her band were more than excellent. I have been waiting 20 years to see them and it was worth the wait. The venue was amazing too. I had a great time with my son and he was dancing and screaming like everyone else.

I ve been to many Pretenders concerts since 1982 and I have to say Chrissie Hynde was slammin! The band was tight the sound and vocals were great simply amazing. Loved the new material and appreciated hearing the old material. Down side got annoyed with the interruptions due to the cell phone issues.

Chrissie Hynde is one of the greatest frontwomen in rock history! She played a lot of great songs, although didn't play Mystery Achievement, Middle of the Road, and BRASS IN POCKET!! She sounded great, although i didn't expect her to be such a DIVA not wanting pictures taken, and threatening to leave. I still love her, but don't want to be policed by not just the ushers, but the artist too!

I've dug Chrissie Hynde's voice from the first I heard it and it's as strong as ever. She should have used it to sing rather than threaten she'd walk off if she saw someone using a cell phone. It's a losing battle unless she's going to frisk and cavity search everyone coming to her concerts. The openers The Rails were superb thank goodness.

Chrissie and the boys ROCKED The Pantages Theatre. They played all her ole school classics along with her new songs. Her new music is awesome. Chrissie still has it, her vocie was so pure raw and rocking. The music & lyrics takes me back to my young ole school times in Jr high and high school and into my adulthood. Chrissie commands her stage and audience. She does not like the cell phone/photo use at all. She is easily distracted. She stopped the concert 5 times and let people in the audience know she did not want ANY photo's calls or video going on. She is a tough cookie that's for sure. But I get it she wants everyone in the moment to enjoy her concert. Life has changed with the ell phone use. During the encore she spoke to the crowd and thanked them for not using the cell phone photo's and then said ok go ahead and get your pictures. Once she played a couple songs she then was getting iritated again by how many of the cell phones went up and stayed up, Like she said and i am quoting her " You all look stupid" holding the phones. Otherwise the concert was incredible and I Love Chrissie no matter what, she will always be apart of my young crazy youth. :) The Pretenders ROCK!

I've never been to the Pantages Theatre before and it's really nice inside. The seats were good no matter where you sat because you could see the stage from every angle. This was my first time seeing the Pretenders and it was money well spent. Chrissie was great she sounded good, her music was good and she look good. I was very pleased with the show!!! The only downfall was the audience and their rudeness with their stupid cell phones. They had no respect to the artist to stay off their cell phones and not take photos when asked several times. She was very annoyed by it and so was I.

Chrissie Hynde is arguably the greatest frontwoman in rock history. She appears to have not lost too many steps over the year, as her voice still sounds the same as during her prime with the Pretenders, and her songwriting remains strong. This show was a great mix of good new material from her solo album plus some choice Pretenders tunes. The audience at this was hard-core, for sure, going crazy for the old stuff. Her young band was quite good and capable of handling the classic stuff. Highly recommended. Oh - and she definitely does NOT like people to use cameraphones so leave them in your pocket and just be in the moment and enjoy the show.

Chrissie Hynde brought it to the Pantages! She can still rock, sing, and entertain the crowd like she did in the 80s. Unfortunately, the audience did not behave like we did in the 80s. After repeated announcements about no cell phone use, Chrissie stopped in the middle of her first song to call out a man in the audience who refused to put his phone away. She threatened to walk off stage, but never did. Ushers were busy shining flashlights on other offending audience members throughout the show. The women sitting behind me talked and laughed throughout the show, raising their voices so they could hear each other during my favorite songs. I left happy having seen one of my favorite artists perform but discouraged by having to share the experience with an audience of people who weren't really interested in the show.

This women never ceases to amaze me. Having witnessed several concerts down the west coast over the years from the Pretenders, she is timeless. Perfect voice great songs/melodies and fantastic band who provide a sound which is unique. Great presence Chrissie was annoyed from the start with an audience member insisting on taking pictures from his/her cell phone when asked not too. A true professional she kept focused and even had time to introduce the band. Highly recommended to anyone who loves the 80's !

Perfect venue, fantastic opener, excellent band, and Chrissie Hynde was phenomenal (as always). Also it was refreshing that she had people put away the camera phones. Stockholm did not play. An acoustic duo called the Rails opened with a new album out called Fair Warning and they were pretty good and very full sounding for a duo. When Chrissie Hynde came on, the sounds was lacking in dynamics and clarity from where I was, and certain instruments as well as most of her vocals were not distinct. The effect was like a constant continuous volume wall of sound for every song. Hard to tell what the new songs were really like. Maybe it was where I was sitting but it was just kind of monotonous. I have wanted to see her for years, and while she was obviously in good voice, it just didn't come across.

Chrissie Hynde has the same amazing set of pipes She had in her twenties, She was perfection . The young band , not an original Pretender in the group , was fresh and sharp, played as if they knew this music for 30 years. Chrissie still has that tough girl personality, She had the audience on there feet most of the night, heaven help you if you use your cell phone during the concert , I loved it !

It's remarkable how strong and intact her voice is after all these years, she never sounded better! The band was spot on!! It seemed as if the audience was really enjoying the show as well, except for that one person she had removed for taking photos with their phone. They were on the stage for about an hour & a half, and it was 50/50 Pretenders/Stockholm songs. The sound quality was phenomenal; if you're a Pretenders or Chrissie fan, this show is a must see, you will not be disappointed!

This was to be the last box checked on my bucket list of concerts / bands to see, and while it got checked I wished it hadn't. Chrissie spent the first half or two-thirds chasing people away because they held up their cell phones, then relented at the end by saying, "aww, F it, go ahead" - how do you think the guys who were kicked out felt after hearing that?? Band was tight, didn't play a couple of her monster hits I can only assume due to bad blood or memories. Oh well......still love her old stuff, maybe I was anticipating too much but the cell phone thing was silly.

Chrissie Hynde showed us all that she hasn't slowed down one bit or lost either her edge or her voice. Fronting an amazing band of men half her age, she powered through an evening of both the familiar and the unfamiliar. The old folks were dancing in the aisles and the youngsters were feeling the power of rock and roll. She is not, however, a fan of the smartphone camera. Be prepared to be publicly humiliated if she sees you pointing one her way when she's up on stage. And she's right; we tend to experience our lives from behind a small glass screen instead of paying full attention to what's going on in front of us. So if you go to see her, be in the moment with her.

Solid show for sure! Chrissie and her 4-piece band put on a fierce, fast-paced, punkish set that was super tight. Can't believe she's 63 now (doesn't look a day older than late 40s) and her voice is pristine. Totally proved to still be a defiant rocker when she stopped the show a few times to call out the few a*ses who, despite the venue's many warnings, insisted on taking pics and filming. (Try sitting next to one of those ijits who light up your visual space the entire show; frankly her surliness over the matter was welcomed ...) And she closed the show after 2 encores w/ one of my favs & a xmas treat, 2000 Miles. Loved it!!

Chrissie came on blazing! She's started the night with some slower numbers and then worked her way into faster paced material. I love the album "Stockholm" and thought she showcased the songs very well . I thought it was a great set list with many Pretenders songs included. Her voice sounds almost the same as it did back in the day. Absolutely impeccable! Yes, she did get pissed off at a few people who can't read clearly written paper signs { at least 50 -100 inside and out of the venue } and who can't listen to the announcements { least 6 times } not to use your cell phone in any way during the performance. I have no problem with people using them and do it myself but she clearly didn t want it happening at her show. RESPECT HER WISHES! Is it really that hard? Check you entitlement issues at the door! The tour merchandise was great a totally affordable. A nice shirt was $20 and the mugs were was $10. That's unheard of now. Thanks for that! What a great night!

This Lady can still bring down the house. By the third song everyone was on their feet and dancing. Pretenders songs were the favs, of course, but cuts from the new album were met with hootin and hollerin and cheerin just as loud. I used to be a huge Chrissie Hynde & Pretenders fan. Why is she trying to 're-invent' herself? This "new" music she performed is terrible- not a memorable melody or lyric among them. I kept hoping for "Stand By Me" and "Forever Young"- but NO LUCK. The very few Pretenders stuff she performed was well done. The band has some excellent musicians, but the 'chemistry' is just not there. A very disappointing evening! Where do I go for a refund? :(

We very much enjoyed the venue and the concert. We were somewhat disappointed that Chrissie didn't play some of her past hits we were hoping to hear, but we also realize artists must move on and don't want to play the same songs all the time.
