This defines the best for country-folk or Americana as it has developed over the past 5 years. Sarah is a delight on stage and gracious with her fans following the concert. She sang and played old favorites as well as new material from here most recent album. I especially like when she play "Build me up form the bone" which is my beloved's theme song for us. We may be in our 60's but Sarah and her performance brings out the life and lifts the step. The Birchmere is an excellent venue for this performance, Food and Drinks were fantastic.

Sarah Jarosz is a phenomenal artist. At only 22 years old, she has already produced three CDs, each one better than the last one. She started in early years playing traditional bluegrass and American / folk, but with her third CD "Build Me Up From Bones" she has created a new one-person genre. You have to listen to that CD. The concert at The Birchmere was the second of her current tour introducing the new album. By good fortune, Sarah was backed up by Aoife O'Donovan!!!

That was the first time seeing her, as well as the first time being in the Duck Room. LOVED the small, intimate setting in the Duck Room. Sarah Jarosz was amazing. She is very very talented.

Sarah and her band are excellent musicians, and the performance lived up to my expectations, however, a 75 minute set (including encore) seemed a little skimpy. The whole thing seemed a bit perfunctory. It also would've been nice if they'd hung around after the performance to sign cd's (I bought the new one - it's good), but they didn't... :-( Those are the reasons I'm giving this 4 stars instead of 5...

Great concert. Sarah Jarosz performed both her new CD, Build Me Up From Bones, and old material. She is an amazing talent with a lovely voice. I have listened to all her CDs but she is even better in live. Her music is beautiful and her lyrics creative and thoughtful. If you love great mandolin, banjo, guitar, and fiddle playing, Jarosz and her players' bluegrass is for you.

Amazing show. You get to see the talent of 3 great musicians. The music itself is also phenomenal, some folk and some blues.

For those of you not familiar with this young girl, she is an enormous talent. Her artistic talents go far beyond her amazing abilities to play an array of string instruments. This young singer songwriter has talent far beyond her years and surrounds herself with equally talented musicians on their accompanying string instruments. The show consist of her previous albums along with some songs from her newly released album and a great choice of a few cover songs. She delivered a unforgettable rendition of 'Simple Twist of Fate'; I've seen both Dylan and the Dead sing this song live, on more than one occasion, and this young lady nailed it by making this song her own with her style and intense feeling. Another highlight was engaging the audience to participate in the final song, she end with 'Come on Up to the House' and inspired the fans to sing the chorus. If you ever have the chance to attend a performance of Sarah Jarosz, take advantage of it.

Jarosz is an exceptionally talented singer songwriter instrumentalist and she tours with a terrific small band (one who plays cello and the other the fiddle and guitar).

From what I had heard and seen online, I expected a great performance from Sarah Jarosz. And, she delivered with both her voice and her musicianship. What made this a step above your basic great concert was the absolutely tight instrumental backing behind the voice. The cellist was inspired. The violinist didn't misplay a note. The three played as one.

Sarah J was awesome. A great mix of songs from her prior work and her recent release. Her capabilities across a range of instruments is really remarkable. But the Birchemere needs to get away from its old business model -- force people to show up at 5 pm to wait an hour drinking $7.50 beers and eating small baskets of stale nachos, also $7.50. Rush in at 6 and then wait another 90 minutes for the show. The food and drinks inside weren't bad, just overpriced. I'd pay a premium for an assigned seat that I can show up and sit in at 715.

What a great show! Sarah & her acompanying "string men" Nat on the Cello & Alex Hargreaves on the violin performed wonderfully! Sarah's voice is the real & authentic, I was very impressed that she sounded as good, if not better in a live venue as on her recordings - for such a young women she delivered a performance of a seasoned veteran. She played music from her prior recordings and some from her album being released this week. Most I had heard & loved, the new songs sounded great. I will be adding them to my ipod. In general, I am not a bluegrass fanatic, I like the music and enjoy listening now & again, I love Sarah's music - I have a feeling she could be a " cross-over" artist.

I had immense fun listening to the talented Sarah Jarosz in Portland! Her voice is beautiful live as well and she is so amazing with all the instruments she pulls out on stage. I would go see her again in a heartbeat and recommend it to anyone who wants to be wowed by a wonderfully talented musician.

Had a great time at the Aladdin Theater. The opening performer, Tatiana Hargreaves, was a surprise treat. Sarah and her group are wonderful. I've often wondered how the three of them got together. It's an odd combination of Sarah and her instruments/vocals accompanied by a cello and a violin/fiddle. It REALLY works!!

Preface: Not a huge bluegrass fan and normally don't get it right when I go to a concert purely on a newpaper review and no actual listening experience. This past Saturday in Charleston, SC, my wife and I took a chance going to see Sarah Jarosz. The result: What a wonderful surprise and gift. She is an Incredible muscian (along with excellent accompanists for this performance), song writer and singer with a low key and sincere, but infectious enthusiasm for and approach to the music and audience- and only 21! If she had only played her own songs, we would have floated home with enjoyment, but her interpretation of others (Dylan, Decembrists) is marvelous also. We can't wait to see her perform again- hopefully next summer between her college studies- and likely at a bigger venue. In the meantime, we will continue to enjoy her two CDs. Sarah Jarosz is not to be missed!

Sarah Jarosz is the real deal. A gifted songwriter. A powerful voice and a musical virtuoso that shakes the feet, weakens the knees and boggles the mind. Her side musicians are as young and almost as talented as she is. The Duckroom was a great venue to see this performance. It will be a long time before anyone gets to see Sarah Jarosz in such an intimate setting again.

I heard Sarah on World Cafe and bought her CD's because I was intrigued by the fact she just produced her latest Cd at the age of 20. Her voice reminded me of Gillian Welch. I then found she was visiting a venue near me and bought tickets. Nothing prepared me for the musical experience that would bring! Her songs sound as good live as on the Cd. Her instrumentalists, Nathaniel Smith and Alex Hargraves, complimented her with their mind-boggling technical prowess. Virtuosi outside the classical range. Nathaniel approaches the cello in a most exciting and engaging way, you can harldly take your eyes off of him. This young lady can write a beautiful song and then deliver it to a live crowd with the same strength as the recorded cuts...unbelievable! My thoughts turned to Joni Mitchell and Lyle Lovett, two songwriters I dearly love. She appeals to a wide range of ages-- the crowd was composed of young adults to retorted and we all gave her a most enthusiastic response because she and Alex and Nathaniel were astounding. Thank you, Sarah!

She is refreshing with her original style. Along with her two players, they combine their talents in a refreshing creation of lyrics, melodies, and improvisation. Sarah needs to keep writing to give to us new songs that allow us to share her unique perspective on lifes' experiences. Excellent show. The songs needed to be longer-- I didn't want them to end.

Sarah Jarosz was amazing - very tight musically and with wonderfully moving lyrics. While I expected her to be great, the virtuosity of her playing multiple instruments, and ability to feature her band was unexpected. Also, the opening act, Brother Brothers were funny and talented.

I had entertained the thought of traveling to Roswell THE NEXT NIGHT tonight to once again see Sarah Jarosz, Jeff and Anthony perform with The Brother Brothers opening..........I have been absolutely blessed to have seen so much truly remarkable musical artistry!! An angelic, melodic voice in song and then, This Girl, when she opens her mouth to speak...KA BAM, I was taken by her power, her control, even the volume. but, not in an abrasive way, not in the least! in a comforting, safe, "we are all gonna be ok" way. The integrity, humility and reverence for her own gifts....may it shine forever. This artist and this performance moves fluidly into my Top 10 of my young life. A perfect kick off to my sacred Samhain 2017.

Sweet, personable and an amazing talent; Sarah Jarosz is simply brilliant. Her songs are transporting and heavenly... and performances of ones she didn t write (When doves cry) are unforgettable. Her bassist is incredible but her guitarist was annoying and attempted to steal the limelight with every awful note he played. She needs to get her fiddler back and lose this creep. I ll see her again. Any time any where.

I am a 61 year old life time music lover, and I have seen Sarah Jarosz four times now and each performance just keeps getting better and better. The first time I saw her was last summer at the Forecastle Festival when she was just starting to make musical waves, at least for me. I fell in love with her music from the first song, especially because it was a song based on an Poe poem called "Annabel Lee". (I'm a 38 year veteran English teacher.) For the fourth time, I was taken by her great voice and equally great instrumental expertise. This is also the first time I've seen her as a headliner. I feel she should have been headlining all along. We all cheered as usual when she picked up her banjo, always a treat. Just an entertaining and great experience. I'm going to see her next at Merle Fest April 29th. Sarah also came out after the show to talk to whoever wanted to and that too was amazing. I even got to take a picture with her. I'm so appreciative of that from this old music lover's point of view.

A great show by a young lady about whom we will hear more from in the future [a prediction]. She and her two sidekicks [guitar and string bass] put on a great set of old and new tunes. And I think that she must be able to play any fretted instrument on the planet as if she has been playing it her whole life.

This was my second time seeing her, the first time was in Nashville on my birthday several years ago. I definitely preferred the Bjiou Theatre over the first place I saw her. The sound was amazing and she and the others performing sounded wonderful. Sarah is one of my favorite artists and I have been a fan of hers for quite some time. I would definitely go see her again the next time she is in town and would definitely visit the Bijou hopefully in the near future. She even came out and played once more after an "encore" from the crowd.

This is the 2nd time that I've seen Jarosz. Saw her the 1st time in the Wilbur, with the Milk Carton Kids--a much larger venue. I really enjoyed seeing her in a smaller venue (although I was surprised that The Sinclair lacks seating, so be ready to stand for 2 hours!). If you can catch this tour, do so. As always, Jarocz and her band are excellent musicians.

I have seen Sarah Jarosz 4 times now, and she is more powerful each time. The musicianship she and her 2 bandmates displayed is beyond most music - incredible skill, ability to improvise, make a big full sound with 3 instruments, and use all of the instruments creatively and brilliantly. She also is an incredible song writer. I can't say enough great about her! I have to say though, I would not go to the Sinclair again, except for a dance concert. Paying $30 for a ticket, I expected to at least be able to see the show. Instead, I had to choose between standingseeing, and sitting. I chose to sit, and heard everything fine. But why should one have to choose? I am not 21 i am 61. I am not going to stand for 3 hours. I wouldn't have at 21 either. We ate dinner at the Sinclair because the host told us we could go right into the entrance to the venue after dinner. Well, ooops, when we asked to do that, she told us, oops, we had to wait in the now *long* line to get in. She also said there was no direct route from the restaurant into the venue - which was a baldfaced lie. I don't recommend the Sinclair's food either. SO - I will drive farther W. Mass or NH/VT, to see Sarah Jarosz, instead of the experience I had at this concert.

This was my first time to see Sarah live. I've been listening to her Spotify station non-stop for about a year after hearing some of her stuff on a local independent radio station. Wow. Just wow. Her voice, her musicianship and the company she chooses to join her onstage - all stunningly beautiful. If you have a chance to see her in person, do it. You'll be so happy you did! At this particular show, the audience was so appreciative; at times, you could hear a pin drop. Even she mentioned how well-behaved we were! It's hard not to be fully focused on a musician as impressive, passionate and joyous as this one.

I had never heard of Sarah Jarisz before but a friend convinced me to go to the show, and I'm glad I did. It was fantastic. She is an amazing musician with a hauntingly beautiful voice. I enjoyed every minute. She was accompanied by an guy on acoustic bass and a guitarist, both of who were excellent. The bass was an especially compelling accompaniement to her music. Overall a great night. Opening act (Bother Brothers) were great too.

Imo the most talented young artist on any music scene today! Every song a treat; Filled with emotional heft, meticulous musical arrangement and, of course, Sarah's incredible voice. I found myself swaying, swooning or tapping to every song, with a smile on my face that remained throughout. The only set list that could have been better would be if she played every song in her catalogue. Can you tell I'm a fan?

Definitely worth the 2.5 hour trip to St. Louis from central IL. Sarah and her trio sounded just like they do on their album, which is stellar! Nice quaint venue where you get a good look at the group from any vantage point. My only gripe was with the opening act. I'm all for up and coming artists getting their shot. But come on! Let them play 3 or 4 songs, then clear the way for the group we payed money and traveled to come see! Some guy I could care less about played at least 10 songs!! Too much..... I went to see Sarah, not some random Joe with a banjo. Still had a blast though!
