Max Carl and the rest of the band rocked it and served up classic GFR at the Belterra Casino in Indiana. Carl channeled Farner so well you wouldn't have known that it wasn't Farner. The band offered up a mixed play list from throughout the GFR library that kept the audience moving. The amount of gray hair in the audience meant nothing when it came to feeling the Funk!

It was the first time I got to see Grand Funk live. The seats I had were great. Possibly only 50 feet from stage. Definitely my favorite band in the 70's. Belterra is a great venue for a concert, just the right size arena. The sound system was fantastic and the new musicians with them were very talented.

GFR was awesome, I was a first timer, finally got to see my favorite song growing up "Closer To Home", and I have to say, I loved it (and the whole night)! Everyone was singing along by then and I must have hit the high note perfectly because the guy in front of me turned around and high fived me out of the blue. "Shinin On" and a whole lot of others I've almost forgotten blew the crowd away. I'll see them next time our paths cross, that's for sure!!!!!!!!!!!!

Growing up in the 70's Grand Funk Railroad was on My favorites list, first in 8-tracks, albums then Cassettes. When I heard they were STILL touring I couldn't pass up another opportunity to see them again (30 years later). Needless to say Mark, Don & Mel never sounded so good, even better than the albums I still own to this day. I took My girlfreind who only knew of them by a couple of Top 40 songs and she was hooked! Kudo's to the GFR, they truely represent what one would call "An American Band", rock & roll at it's finest. Thank you guys for not throwing in the towel, My kids look forward to catching one of your shows in the near future.

I saw Grand Funk Railroad in 1971 in Dallas right after I got back from my tour of Viet Nam.I saw them again in 1999 in Tyler Texas. The show at Billy Bob's in Ft. Worth was as good as the other two. The amount of energy these guys bring after forty years was incredible! Don Brewer still powers the drum solo as good as I remember and Mel's bass playing on "Inside Looking Out is as strong as possible and reminded me of the first time I heard him do that riff on 1971's LIVE ALBUM. Even though Mark Farner was not with the band this time around, the band made you forget with the great guitar playing and his vocal replacement from 38 Special. I highly recommend any Grand Funk Railroad fans to catch this group whle you still can. If they come to my area again I will definitely be there to watch and hear them. They are a band you must hear LIVE!

The band retains it's status as "The American Band"! This concert was even better than the last one I saw, in the 1970's. The music and vocals were fantastic. The lead singer's voice has only improved with age, as well as his energy. The drummer......one of the best in rock 'n' roll! This show was worth every penny.

I have seen several tribute shows. Like the Beatles tribute and the Motown tributes. But the Grand f Funk Railroad Tribute Show was the best one I have ever seen. The lead singer almost even looked like Mark Farner. But he just couldn't quite carry a tune like Mark Farner. I also saw the Grand Funk Railroad Tribute show on the Detroit Riverfront last summer. This tribute show was better though. I guess they practiced more since then. All in all it was a nice show. The venue was spectacular! Face it though, Mark Farner IS Grand Funk Railroad.

Grand Funk Railroad put on an awesome show. Age did Not slow them down @ all!! Don Brewer did an excellent job on the drums;Bruce Kuleck did an excellent Jimmi Hendrix rendition of the Star Spangled Banner on his guitar. They could put 20yr olds to shame. We had very good seats in the 2nd row so we saw everything up close & got some good pictures. They played all their hit songs & they sounded just as good as the 1st time I heard them.

My friend Nancy and I had "front row" seats to this concert that was truly amazing! Old Time Rock and Roll never dies and Grand Funk RR proved it! Donny Brewer showed that he is the master when it comes to playing drums! He did a solo that lasted about 10 minutes! It was an amazing show and one of the best shows of the season so far as Rock music is concerned! All of the crowd was on their feet at the end and we were all screaming as loud as we could! A must see, GFR is over the top. Energetic, playing all the album rock cuts that made them the top 1970s rock band, the show is unbelievable. You'll be able to rock out and sing along. Don Brewer is THE best rock drummer on the planet. Original member Mel Schacher (along with Brewer) was all over his bass. Can he get any skinnier? Rock but with a living, moving funk beat undertone--that's why I've always loved Grand Funk Railroad's music. We'd go see them again. Well worth the price of a ticket.

I was very impressed with Del Castillo having never heard them before. They play upbeat driving music that bring the energy out in you. Great to bring you back after having run a marathon that day. Grand funk railroad was pretty good. They played classic funk and rock and roll that they are known for. It was great to watch them they had great stage presence and really played to the crowd. Los Loney Boys Has some what of a disappointment. They play well and good stage presence but the music they played was almost pretty mellow and dont play to the crowd to draw they into the music. They almost play like a rehersal jam, and play to one another and not the crowd there to see them. Overall I still liked them and they put on a great show. I probably would have had Los Lonley Boys go first and Del Castillo go last to have the entire event simply escelate to a tremendous finish. I still would go again if I had the chance.

While the excitement and energy level of the band was great, the sound did not impress me. I was at a concert the night prior to this at the same venue, and the sound was 100 times better. I would also have liked to purchase some items of band merchandise from the show, but the only thing they were selling was 2 different versions of the same tee shirt. You would think they would be selling as much merchandise as possible to increase their profits. Other than that I would not pay to see this act again.

We've seen GFR quiet a few times. They never disappoint. Of course, Mark Farner would be a great compliment to the band, but, you know what, they're doing an amazing job by themselves. Bruce Kulick handles his guitar duties with perfection and style. Don Brewer is tireless and strong as ever. I've always loved his drumming style since the seventies: powerful and aggressive! This concert was absolutely the biggest surprise of the year. Rick Derringer blew us all away with the hits and stories of his incredible career. Where else are you going to hear Hang On Sloopy, Rock and Roll Hootchie Coo, and Frankenstein all in the same half hour except for maybe my iPod on random shuffle. He and his band looked like they were having so much fun and would have been happy playing anywhere. Then Grand Funk Railroad takes over and takes us through their incredible catalog of songs. A great career spanning set that left us all with big smiles on our faces as we walked out in a bit of disbelief over what we just witnessed. As usual, the Genesee acoustics were great to make the night complete.

All those great GFR songs to choose from and they only played a couple. Lots of fairly repetitious and uninspiring newer stuff. A VERY long, self-indulgent and not very creative drum solo--by solo I mean everyone else left the stage- by Brewer. Needy much? The crowd seemed to like it, though. Maybe if they had seen Mark Farner a couple weeks before, as I did, they d have shared my disappointment. If you want to hear great a GFR concert, go see Mark Farner. It s a leaner, cleaner and more enjoyable show.

The concert was awesome, downside it only lasted about an hour and twenty min. plus side tickets were affordable. It was an upbeat very inactive show, performing some of my favorites and many of there hits. The Hard Rock Live hall was pretty much filled with Grand Funk loving Baby Boomers, the gig had a old school, back in the day feel. I loved it, you could hear and feel the music and the lyrics, sound quality was on point. The Devils Daughter's Blues was a cool song. I have several favorite songs, probably the same as many other folks. Mine and my wife's favorite part of the show was the around 20 minute drum solo by Don Brewer, he can still slam those skins, my wife was amazed she had never heard anything like it and likely never will again. Been a big fan of The American Band's music for a very long time, I would not hesitate to buy tickets and hear them again at The Hard Rock or anyplace else the happen to roll into town.

Quality wise, GFR showed they did NOT miss Mark Farner at all, they played severalof their later hits but did not include such early classics as Heartbreaker, Into The Sun, Time Machine and Are You Ready. My problem is that the show ran only 1 hour and 25 minutes. While I realize Atlantic City is famous for short shows as they want you back on the gaming floors ASAP; GFR exasperated the problem by the inclusion of excessive bass and drum solos; time that could have been used to play more of their hits. This is yet another band that belongs in the Rock n' Roll HalI of Fame....... I recommend my friends to go to see GFR...... BUT NOT IN ATLANTIC CITY !!!

Both Grand Funk and The Guess Who delivered. Vocals were very good even though neither band had their original lead singers. Most people didn't know. Musically they were spit on and song selection was great too! I wish Grand Funk would include Heartbreaker in their sets. They do not seem to do that anymore. It was strange that Don Brewer was set so far back on that awful stage the venue has.

Got to see The Guess Who and GFR last night in Rhode Island, Twin River Casino, it used to be called Lincoln Park it had Greyhound racing in the past. The Guess Who have two original members like GFR. They play so many hit songs (These Eyes, Amercian Women, etc.,). They were fun, lots of audience participation and Lots of funny banter. They also rocked it up on a couple of songs lengthened one and did a Guitar War thing that was fun and good. GFR like usually did a very good set, right down to business (each band got 80 minutes) high energy, Loud and pretty heavy. The WAAB sounded a bit heavier then Usual its almost a metal version. To me Inside looking out was the highlight. To the Audience Closer got Home was it. GFR did there standard set, Bottle Rocket, Footspompin' Music, Rock N Roll Soul, Shining' On, One more river. SKOW, Locomotion, Drum Solo, Devils Daughter-Lightning and Thunder, ISLO, IYC/CTH, National Anthem Walk Like A Man and WAAB (I might be missing something). Like the Guess Who lots of singing along, a real good audience of around 3000. It is not a great concert hall,(should, be a rectangle) its Square so many of us were sitting wide of the stage (so for that tenure I would recommend getting center stage seats), They even had 300-400 standing room tickets sold for the event. I would recommend both bands to anyone, enjoyable show' . Of course for GFR fans they can see Mark to, who does a great show and more song diverse song selection. Both GFR and Mark will be back in this area (New England) in the summer. And I will see both and also I will see the Guess Who again as well.

This concert was well worth it to see the two founding members, drummer Don Brewer and bassist Mel Schacher and the very talented key players they put together for this tour. Brewer and company sounded like the GFR of old and the songs were tight and loud (this record meant to be played LOUD). Playing an all-too short set of songs, the band concentrated on their top 40 hits and most notable songs, while adding in a few surprises along the way, including the Hendrix-inspired Star Spangled Banner and an awesome ear-popping, non-stop, energetic drum solo by Don. Lead guitarist Bruce Kulick meshed perfectly and guitarist/singer Max Carl and Keyboardist Tim Cashion rounded out an incredible performance. Max's vocals complemented Don's and Tim's keyboard sounded just like the GFR of old. Don's vocals haven't aged a bit and he definitely "Shined On" between his drumming and lead vocals! The only downside was that the length was way too short, coming in at just about one hour and 18 minutes. The band could have easily added many more prog-rockers like "The Railroad" and others to rekindle those of us who remember and introduce those who don't and increase their setlist to two-plus hours. They did not displease though, and ended with their signature song, We re An American Band before leaving for the evening.

I've been a Grand Funk Railroad fan for years and always will be. BUT...... This was really not a good show, Other than Farner drum solo. The entire concert lasted only 1hour and 15 minutes which in my opinion so ridiculous!

This was my 19th show to see 70's rock band legends Don Brewer (drums) and Mel Schacher (bass) play together with Bruce Kulick (lead guitar w/KISS for 12 yrs), Max Carl (.38 Special and Jack Mack & The Heart Attack), and Tim Cashion (Bob Seger, Robert Palmer). The set list has been pretty much unchanged for several years with the expected classics (American Band, Some Kinda Wonderful and Closer To Home) mixed with Second Chance (penned by Max during his time with .38 Special). This band has been one of my favorites since I first started listening to them in the early 70's and prompted me to learn how to play guitar, bass and drums.

This was the first time I have ever seen Grand Funk live. Other than the show being a little short (they are in their mid-60's) my wife and I had a great time. They played most of the songs I had expected them to, and their voices were still high quality. One of my fears is that I would leave disappointed because of how long they have been singing but that fear was totally unfounded. Great show, highly recommended!

I liked Burton Cummings and his older songs. However, with Grand funk railroad it was different. I like rock music, but cannot understand why it must be played so LOUD. I ended up leaving early to watch the show in the upstairs booth, where it was not so loud. Otherwise the show was ok.

I attended this concert with low expectations, I mean these guys are up there in years and I like the deep cuts instead of the hits. They played a few of their hits but then they preformed the deep cuts I was looking for, one right after another with hardly any time in between songs. They beat my expectations.

The show only lasted 1 1/2 hours. Grand Funk didn't do a lot of their popular songs. They had so many more they could have done. I wonder if that is because Mark Farner is no longer part of the band. The show was good for the short time it lasted but not really worth the money! Bands usually come out for an encore but this time they didn't. Once the last song was done the lights came on and everyone started exiting the theater. DISAPPOINTING!

Musically they sounded great. Donnie Brewer is still an amazing drummer! My biggest complaint is that they only played a measly 1 1/2 hrs! So many good songs left off the play list.

I knew going in that this was not the original lineup. However, when it was announced that Mel Schacher would not be able to attend due to a family emergency, they should have canceled the dates. The sub bass player was exactly that - sub par. He barley knew the parts (and some songs clearly did not learn the bass lines correctly). All in all, it was a very vanilla, lackluster performance. On top of that, they played for only 70 minutes. There was no opening act. Had I not went to the Center Bar afterwards and instead gone home after the too short show, I would have been out on a Saturday night for 2 hours, including my drive time. Not much of a night out. HardRock Live is a nice room, but the seating situation is just completely horrible. You are so crammed in the seats - literally hip-to-hip with the person next to you. There are no cup holder - as someone was leaving seats behind us, they kicked over a drink that was on the floor, resulting in beer all over the floor. I'm sure it ended up being a sticky mess. I don't know for sure, because after that happened, I left my seat and stood on the side next to the bleachers for the rest of the show. There were some positives - the sound was great, and the cramped seats do have good sight lines to the stage. Big screens on either side of the room are nice as well. Concessions were good - long lines before the show, but they moved quick, and the workers were cordial.

My husband and I were at the Grand Funk show, Sat. 1/20/18, and we were literally blown away. GFR cranked the show up from the start and continued that momentum till the end. All the greats, Footstomping Music, Locomotion, I'm Your Captain, American Band. You name it, they played it! Just amazingly outstanding!

I am normally not very fond of the Northfield concert venue, however this was a great show. Don Brewer still has it! And the sound was quite good. The 90 minute show had all the tunes that I came to hear. I would go to this one again!

It's great to hear Grand Funk music. Donnie Brewer is amazing on drums and vocals, He plays and sings as well as he did 50 years ago. Mel Schacher was absent that night, not sure why. Hope he returns soon. A sold out show. That is a good sign. Keep bringing them back. Especially bring Mark Farner as well. Also I met the legendary Mike Belkin who was signing his new book. This kind of rock belongs in the Cleveland area.

Wow! Great show! Don Brewer is absolutely AMAZING! He can play the drums better than ever! He is truly the "heart and soul" of Grand Funk! That being said...KUDOS to co-lead singer, Max Carl! What a talent and what an awesome "rocker!" Likewise, Bruce Kulic on bass guitar and Tim Cashion on keyboards are as good at their "craft" as you can get!!! Fabulous show! The Hard Rocksino at Northfield Park is a great concert venue! The smaller venue gives a much more "intimate" music experience! The "ease" of getting in and out of the venue is positively wonderful! It doesn't take but a very few minutes to exit and be on your way home!

They can still rock. The lead singer Max Carl, stays true to the original sound yet adds his own sexy style and looks great on stage! The harmony between the band was right on. The guitars were awesome and the drum solo was amazing! They started right on time with no opener and ended just less than 90 minutes later with no encore! I was a bit disappointed that they didn't perform longer or do an encore. Overall they sounded really great! As far as the venue, I gave it four stars because the seats were really close together and I felt like I was squished against my neighbor the whole time. A little more room would have been nice. I think for the price paid, a longer show with a little more room to rock would have been perfect. In the end, they still got it though.

While the musicians were solid, it didn't have the feeling of a Grand Funk Band. Without Farmer it can't be duplicated and they lost the feel by doing the last songs Funk had produced. Not enough songs from the first four albums that MADE Grand Funk Railroad. The couple of older songs they did were a mere pittance of what they are. Don Brewer does a good job of trying to give it a GFR feel. Again, as a band they were solid.

The music was great. Max Carl was great. I expected more songs. I don't know if Mark Farner holds the rights to any of the songs recorded but 15 songs and an hour and 20 minutes is not long enough.
