I recommend everyone to go see it!!! I really enjoyed it!! Went to NY for the weekend with my daughter for her 20th!! We had a blast attending this show. Has so many tricks I couldn't figure them out. I almost pee in my pants, ok, I know it's gross, but I didn't. I did scream a LOT!!!!! Todd Robbins is incredible and his little son absolutely ADORABLE!!! (not part of the show), but I bet you he will grow-up doing just what daddy does. He was even wearing his little white suit. Simply adorable!! Absolutely entretaining! I was horrified, but did enjoy it a LOT!!! I sitll can't believe it, but we survived!!

If you like the spookier, darker side of magic, story telling and the bizarre then this is the show for you! Unfortunately we got to see the very last show they were doing after almost a year's run. There are rumors it may be back around October so keep your eyes peeled. This is not a show to pass up!!

I went to Play Dead with my girlfriend with no idea about what I was about to see. I thought it would be a fun Halloween treat, but quickly realized it was so much more. It was amazing, troubling, scary at times, bizarre, funny, creepy, downright gross....in one word unimagineable, but one of the most entertaining events I have ever attended. Its not a Halloween only show, everyone should see Play Dead (well adults only). I won't (or can't) reveal the details, but it will leave you talking about it and thinking about it for a long time.

UGH, I thought this show was a scam. Not scary at all and just all magic tricks with no story. Got totally bored. Good idea but instead of Play Dead, I wished I was dead. Not Good if you really want to be scared and on the edge of your seat with fright. Boo

I thought this was more a magic show than scary show which shouldn't surprise me since Teller was involved but I thought there would be more of a story and it's just really tricks but together. Actually I got bored more than scared.

Oh my god. Oh my god. Seriously you guys. Greatest show ever. EVER. Good lord it scared the bejesus out of me . But in that fun scary movie, haunted house kinda way. Every moment I was on the edge of my seat. Topped off by crazy scary yet beautiful nude woman in my face. I really don't think I have every been so entertained in my life. Todd Robbins, Teller and the cast (who i know were there, yet not) are amazing!

There was too much talk and very little action. Between the turning off of the lights, the audience screaming like children (because of the darkness), objects and fluids being thrown at the audience while in darkness; I felt like I was on a haunted house ride at an amusement park instead of an off-broadway show.

Play Dead was simply amazing. I haven't seen a play so well performed in years. With revealing anything , Play Dead utilizes the audience to bring a spectacular show. In addition, the acts and other "things" happening on and off stage will leave you guessing all the way home. A must watch, do not miss it.

My family (which consists of two teenagers) went Sat for the late night show. We sat third row, and although the seating was extremely cramped, it made for socializing with the people in front of us turn out to be a good thing. The illusions were superb. The experience of sitting in complete darkness was "chilling", my mind only going off to the bad places in my head, of rowdy kids but that was for a short time only. Needless to say I had to convince, no drag my kids to the show only to find them texting and facebooking all their friends about how much fun it was!

This one-man play incorporates chills, magic, and darkness for a fun (if creepy) night out. Todd Robbins' delivery is spectacular and entertaining. He draws the audience in, plays with trust, then surprises you. It's a bit like having a scary campfire story come to life. This play incorporates a lot of darkness and audience participation (though not at the level of The Rocky Horror Picture Show; at least three people are selected from the audience to go on stage at one time or another). There are times the lights are completely out and you will feel things touching you. My group didn't mind this, but you should probably be aware. Nothing will stain your clothes or hurt you.

We were enticed in to the theater of the macarbe from the start! The theme presentation didn't disappoint and was even enhanced by the performances; Todd Robbins and the audience participants. The theater was full and the audience responded to the scary darkness with shouts and cries from the "spiders" and things in the night." Play Dear was fun...

I read a number of great reviews and decided to go. Clever, Different, Not Great, Not for Everyone. A few amazingly entertaining parts that leave you scratching your head, some of the show dragged a little. Lots of things I wouldn't share because if you go, you'd not want to know them in advance. Show happens all around you, exceptionally high audience involvement, mostly on the edge of your seat wondering what might be next. Its an experience, not a show. Rather, its an off-Broadway experience and I'd recommend it only for someone looking for such an experience.

I was engaged by the women who seated us. I was very interested with the early viewing of the stage set. I was held in a tense, anticipatory, transfixed, beguiled, startled, and also sad, reminiscent, contemplative, state for the entire show. Todd Robbins is a solid-sales pitchman-carnival barker-tale spinner-of the old cloth-vaudevillian-flea circus ringmaster-mc-snake oil salesman-hokum exposer of the highest order. A good joe.

It's a magic show, I did not know that so I was a bit thrown off. The seats are EXTREMELY tiny. I mean, very very very small. The show was good. but I payed over $100 for 2 tix to sit close to the stage but bc we got there 10 mins late, they did not honor our tickets and put us on in the back. This show is worth it at under $25 A TICKET. over that, not worth it. interesting

This was the greatest show I have seen in a long time. If you like getting a spooky thrill it's the show to see. If you are very faint of heart...still go. As long as you have someone to grab on to, you're good to go. It's great for a small fright and a laugh! It makes you realize how easily our minds can play tricks on us. Play Dead was entertaining if you like magic shows, illusions and circus acts. I was able to purchase my tickets at a discount of $38.10 each, however, to pay anything more than that is too much for what the show provides. It is a one man show that interacts with the audience, some of whom I believe are pre-selected. The actor is likeable, plays his part well and is humorous. The show tries to evoke fear and thrills - good for those who scare easily. Without giving out any details, the show had moments of class acts and some moments of cheap thrills.

It was fun. Mr. Robbins is incredibly engaging. It was cool seeing all the old creep show tricks brought to life in a new arena. I don't want to ruin your experience by giving anything away, so I'll just say that you should probably go to an early show. The sounds from the club next door broke the mood a few times. Go to have a good laugh and to see some pretty amazing tricks but be warned the guy sitting next to me nearly passed out and I had some moments where I had my eyes clenched shut while my stomach did somersaults. Of course I was laughing at the same time.

"Play Dead" is a brilliantly crafted theatrical event written and directed by two consummate showpeople who both love the history of traveling theater, and have re-created some of that history on stage. It is an old-time "spook show" - a kind of low-rent vaudeville performance involving magic tricks, story-telling, illusions, mentalism and spiritualism, all presented with cheesy props and spooky overtones in a darkened theater. Such shows played at midnight in rented theaters in small towns on the traveling-theater circuit, many decades ago. Todd Robbins and Teller lovingly - and scarily - re-create such an event, delivering a funny, macabre, thrilling and educational performance that is as much a paean to old-time theater as it is an enervating night out for their audiences. Robbins is a master lecturer and sideshow performer (not surprisingly - he teaches that and more as director of the Coney Island Sideshow). He commands the stage, creating a thrilling, and often touching, atmosphere as he effortlessly reels off an amazing spectrum of performance skills, seamlessly tying them into the evening's thanatological theme, taking the audience wherever he chooses and yet always letting them down gently. It's a beautiful master class in a performance style that is all but forgotten. And as pure theater, it can't be beat. The audience screamed again and again, laughed and gasped and were amazed over and over. The final act is worth the price of admission by itself. This is amazing theater that you'll never see again, brilliantly done, and just a bang-up good time as well. If you missed it, you really missed something.

The stories and presentation were genuinely disturbing at times, and Robbins's showmanship is excellent. There are some moments where the show goes for the "Boo!" kind of startle-reflex scare, but mostly even the pitch-black sequences rely more on the audience's imagination. If you know anything about magic, you'll know what's coming well before it happens, and unfortunately the Playbill gives away the big finale.

I had first heard about this show on NPR last year. My friend and I had been planning to attend for months. Our long wait was well worth it. Todd Robbins is unabashed in his enjoyment of the subject matter - part magic, part dark humor, part seance, part side show. I did not enjoy this play at all. I was tense for the whole 85 minutes of it running. I did not like the things touching me in the dark. I did not appreciate the gory simulated blood and guts being hurled at me. I hated the rat on Mr. Robbins neck. The eating the light bulb, while intriguing, was disgusting in itself. In fact, I was amazed at some of the feats, but they were overwhelmed by angst.

Todd Robbins gives a performance worthy of a much bigger room. Fortunately for us, the venue is intimate and the experience is even more fun. A mixture of darkness, bumps in the night and terror of the mind are in store for anyone brave enough to attend.

Neither my girlfriend nor I really knew what to expect when I booked the tickets, but I had a vague idea that it was going to be similar to a spooky cabaretshow of sorts, similar to what one saw as a child. I was wrong. This was a scary, elegant and hilarious cabaretshow unlike any show I've ever experienced. It was incredibly well-scripted, well-written, and very well performed. I don't want to spoil anything but I will tell you the following: 1) The show had an incredibly entertaining format that was more entertaining than any other show I have yet to experience 2) I have recommended Play Dead to every friend I've met this week 3) There are discount codes floating around on the internet 4) See it!

Overall, great act by Todd Robbins! He really gave me a good scare. through out the show, he was very entertaining and didn't leave the audience or so... bored. I really faced my fears of death, darkness, and total creepiness! The light bulb trick* was truly amazing and unbelievable still to this point. I would definitely recommend this show to all my friends as I already have! :D

This is a 'performance piece' by Tod Robbins and Teller (of Penn & Teller fame). I loved it, scary and informative. Not for the faint of heart and definitely not for those under 16 or anyone who is afraid of the dark. Audience members were game and participated. Crowd was mostly under 40. This is not a play as such but a series of stories acted out about real folks. Only Robbins performs, Teller is a co-writer, etc.

Todd Robbins is very persuasively sinister in his role as medium to our fears and, perhaps even more to the point, superstitions and credulity. Lots of heart stopping moments for the audience's startle reflex, plus a healthy administration of goopy gore. The entire cast is excellent, by the way, but your principle host, guide, and torturer is Mr. Robbins. The words "don't try this at home" are also very applicable--as anyone familiar with Mr. Robbin's little special talent can also attest. He will demonstrate. This is a thoroughly enjoyable show. It also has a useful message for our ever credulous times. Those familiar with Messers Penn and Teller can guess, perhaps, the message and anticipate (with some ghoulish glee) the method of the delicious madness of its delivery here, but one will not for a moment be sufficiently on guard to defeat this remarkable display of illusion and fright.

Great, fun, scary show. That said, was not too scary. Just go, it's a well put together, creepy show with magic and illusions.

This is not like any play I have seen before...It is in Greenwich village in a small theatre......You are thrown in total darkness, illusions, audience participation..Todd Robbins was magnificent and his assistants were great...Not for the faint of heart...You want the unusal, go see Play Dead, you wont be disappointed......
