Peter Gabriel

Peter Gabriel Concert Schedule and TourSix-time Grammy winner Peter Gabriel dazzled audiences around the globe during his 2012 Back to Front tour, proving once again that the former Genesis frontman still has the power to put on a truly spectacular concert. This tour was special in that it featured a complete performance of Gabriel's 1986 landmark album, So. Throughout the show, video screens were used to full effect, at times filtering the action through an eerie, security camera-like lens. When the stage lit up for upbeat songs, splashing supernova hues on the giant white backdrop behind the band, ticket buyers were ecstatic, fueled by Gabriel's trademark stage energy.

Hard to believe Peter Gabriel had never played Red Rocks until Last Year! Is that true?!?! We made it to both Events and we'll never be the same. One of the Greatest artists of all time at arguably the greatest Venue on the planet. Gabriels masterful vision and mesmerizing stage presence kept the crowd fascinated for well over two hours. His songwriting & unique voice captivated, entertained and wowed the capacity crowd throughout the evening. His capable band from the SO album was present to make sure every note was there! Peter Gabriel's shows both made my top twenty list all time . . . Anywhere! Top Ten at Red Rocks. All the years he's been Rocking his huge fan base has not slowed him down or destroyed his range at all. Peter Gabriel has been added to our Don't Miss List. His performance at Red Rocks must join the list of EPIC SHOWS at Red Rocks in Colorado. Well Played Peter, Well Played!!!!

A little more than a year ago I attended Peter's concert ( also at the United Center/Chicago ), the show that featured his New Blood Orchestra. While it was interesting and unusual, I longed to hear more of his classic songs. Flash forward to 9/12 and my wish was granted. Let me clarify something. The United Center is not my favorite venue. A bit overwhelming in it's vastness( and hoards of people ), sometimes the sound gets lost. Not on this night! The energy was just right. I can only dream of what it might be like to revel in this experience at the more intimate Chicago Theater. Perhaps five stars would be doled out if my seat would have been a little closer, if that freakishly tall couple hadn't been gyrating in front of me through the entire performance. Makes me rethink my whole seating strategy .Maybe it would behoove me to catch a stadium seat in the periphery if I'm not privy to the front rows. How does one even get those seats? I was a little taken aback in the beginning of the show when it seemed like Peter Gabriel's vision was going to include performing with all the house lights on and without visual effects at all. Maybe there were some technical issues? All I know is that I like to escape into the dark to fully experience a concert, so I was a little uptight for the first few songs. Not to worry, the darkness arrived and a spectacular light show commenced. So many different elements come into play when measuring the formula of an enchanting evening.

Show was beyond awesome. New Blood Orchestra, orchestrations, sound, lights, videos, sound - all amazing. First part of show with cover songs was good, but when he came back and did his own stuff it was hair standing up on end-ingly amazing. The sound of so many strings was just beautiful. Even though sign on Radio City said SOLD OUT, I came into work this morning and tried for a single ticket and am in the PIT for tonight's show. If you like Peter/Genesis and can go, GO!

After many years of watching Peter Gabriel on video I finally had the opportunity to see him live. My wife and I found out he was not touring in our home area and decided to fly to San Diego to see him. And boy we were not disappointed. One of the most unusual, most enjoyable concerts I have ever seen. The man can still hold the stage while pushing 70. The venue was good, the sound was outstanding and his band was flawless. Would I travel to see him again? Absolutely! Would I recommend anyone to see him? I say, you'd better. Well worth the travel and time it took to get there. My rating of five stars is not enough. I'd say ten stars and two thumbs up. Thanks Peter. Take a rest and please tour again.

I enjoyed PG's show BIG TIME (not to confuse with one of his songs). However, if you want to experience anything else than your favorite artist, then the Arena is not a place for you. Peter Gabriel is the legend. Period! The level of professionalism his team showed was unbelievable. His lights show is simple and unreachable complex at the same time. Thus, it sticks in your mind. Now, when I hear his music admired for many years, the show is coming back to life... Unforgettable experience! -- But only if you don't pay attention to the Arena.

Well what a day of firsts. I took a lady that i had dated before , she is a Gabriel fan as I am. We went by this little place for a bite to eat called Phillipes french dip over by union station it had been there since 1908 a first for both of us. That was good. Then we went to the Hollywood bowl again for both of us our first times . Then to see Peter and the band perform was just incredible , I have been a fan for many years and we both enjoyed the show very much, again first for us both to see him. I liked the way he broke the show into 3 segments . The opening artist was good as well no complaints about anything.

What a wonderful event in an unforgettable setting. We had a full moon, great music, a rocking good time, and a few snowflakes to make this event one I will never forget. Peter Gabriel, and a large majority of the collaborators for So, were on hand to entertain us. It was sad the evening had to end.

Peter Gabriel obviously cares about giving his audience a good performance. The great thing is that he has the talent to execute. The sound was some of the best I've heard at any concert. We certainly got our money's worth.

Peter Gabriel start his show with couple of acustic numbers with the house lights up. Even at that level, the show was well worth the price of admission. Then, halfway through Family Snapshot, the electricty was turned on and from there the show was rocketed into the stratosphere. It was his most incredible show ever and I am not the same person I was when the show started.

Wish the bottom line had a maybe option! My wife and I saw the show last night. The venue, band, sound and multimedia show were incredible! Both my wife and I noticed Peter did seem a little tired. Wouldn't anyone after such a grueling tour. We both also notice he we didn't see him smile during the entire show. My wife says "He need to lighten up a little." But still it was a GREAT show. I still believe that concert ticket prices have gotten too high. We paid $142.50 a ticket. For that price you would think that we would have had seats in the orchestra section. I also had to pass on the $40 T-Shirt a $20 program. Were we just really spoiled in our 20's for being able to afford so many shows??? We will continue to go to great concerts like last night's, but they will have to be rare events due to the price. We believe the 'Witness' charity Peter founded is a worthy one. That being said wouldn't have been nice to let people know that a portion of the proceeds were being donated to the cause. There were compelling images of violence displayed on the screen before the show, but the call to action via a website or phone number must have been so briefly displayed that neither my wife or I noticed it. Might have been a good thing to have the flyers promoting you new cd set also promote giving to this very worthy cause.

First row of the balcony in Las Vegas 10/5, I felt I'd got my money's worth by the end of "No Self Control". Saw his 1st solo tour at Winterland in SF back in '77, the man still has a stage presence that few could hope to match. Saw him again in Costa Mesa in '03, but it didn't compare well to the "Back To Front" tour this year. Excellent show, great musicians, unique staging, easily the best concert I've seen in ages. Have always been a huge fan of this artist, going back to his "rock theater" days with Genesis. If you have the chance, catch a date on this tour. You will be "So" glad you did!

I don't think this tour will win a new audience for Peter Gabriel, but I don't imagine that's the point. Those of us who are long-time supporters of Gabriel's songwriting and excellent musical collaborators have been reminded why we are fans and have also enjoyed the chance to again see one of our favorite artists with his superlative musical collaborators. The show opened with an unfinished piece of music performed by Gabriel and bassist Tony Levin and proceeded through a short first set with more sparse instrumentation (e.g., "Shock the Monkey" and "Secret World"), providing a nice contrast to the centerpiece of the show, a performance of the "So" album in it's entirety. The second set included material from earlier in his solo career, including songs with less broad appeal but exciting, unexpected, and enjoyable for fans, including "Family Snapshot" and "The Family and the Fishing Net". By comparison, the third set- a playing of "So"- was less surprising but no less entertaining. The encore included both the unexpected ("The Tower That Ate People" with a dramatic visual element) and the expected but always inspired ("Biko"). Peter Gabriel has an unusual ability to combine lyrical ideas that often involve personal shortcomings, spiritual strivings, and unique musical themes, with elements derived from cutting edge science and art. The amazing musical abilities of his band mates add even more to the finished work. His live performances have always added complementary challenging visual elements, giving him the opportunity to augment his work and collaborate with like-minded artists and technologists. All this was on display for fans on his current tour.

In their typical high-tech style, Peter Gabriel and crew performed for a sold out crowd at Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Morrison, Colorado, rounding off the 2012 concert season. The on-stage set appeared to be living and breathing by utilizing several cameras affixed to tall cranes. Black and white images were displayed behind the performers and on a giant screen to the right of the outdoor stage. This monochromatic landscape was interspersed with giant, staccato-like flashes of red hot lighting during one of his best-known songs, "Sledgehammer."

A feast under a full moon. Appetizers- mostly acoustic with the house lights on. Main course-fully satisfying electric hits with a dash of eclectic. Dessert- "So" in its entirety, as it was meant to be played. Mr Gabriel's voice is still remarkable. The musicianship was superb. A magical feast that I can savor over and over. You will not be disappointed if you see this tour.

My first show at arguably the best venue in the world. Not to mention the fact that it was the first time I saw the artist. Peter Gabriel and the musician's he brought with him are professionals in every sense of the word. The band was the same one that actually was in the studio, recording 'So' back in 1986. Tony Levin, nearly 67 (couldn't believe when I googled that), can probably outplay most, if not all, on the bass. David Rhodes was solid. Manu Katche was as brilliant as ever.

Overall: Awesome. Waiting near 30 years to get to see Peter Gabriel live. Opening Act: About a minute after 8 PM, just as the moon came out from behind a cloud, Peter Gabriel took the stage solo to introduce the opening act, prefacing that the original opening act got sick and had to fly home and the 2 of the musicians that accompanied the opening act and backed up Peter with vocals, also played cello and piano with the pianist having a solo career; so, these 2 stepped up and performed a small opening set of 4 songs .. .probably the best and easiest career choice they could make to open for Peter Gabriel at a sold out Red Rocks! Main Act: PG came back out following the opening act and informed crowd of the unique format of stage and songs that would follow: the first set - the appetizer - would be with the house lights on, 2nd set would be dinner containing various hits from across the few decades he's been performing, and dessert would be the full album of So in the order intended (which PG later outlined for the audiophile techno-junkies had to originally be altered to accommodate the limited audio range of LPs on the last track). Encore : Peter came back out and played Tower That Ate the People off of Ovo and it was then he pulled out the drop down cylindrical visual effect... Then, closed with Biko adding more power to the song by prefacing above the opening chords the connection between the current efforts unfolding in the world to have people's voices heard in places like Egypt, Tunsia, etc. to having these roots of giving voice to injustice be found in the work of South Africa's courageous Steven Biko.... Definitely struck a chord with me, adding a layer of meaning to music that I value a great deal (from PG and others). --- Seats: Seats had good line of sight to stage, were functionally located a few steps from the food and bathrooms in the back (without having to walk up many stairs as most others had to do), and had a view many of the others in lower seats did not have: a scenic backdrop overlooking the lights of Denver under a near-full moon sky (a layer of coolness was added as the moon came out behind the clouds throughout the night). One drawback of these particular seats: the sound seemed to periodically fade in/out and left/right, which others in my vicinity also verbalized (unsolicited) outlining they had been to quite a few other concerts at Red Rocks in similar seats where the sound was much clearer and louder.

The Red Rocks staff, from parking, entry, seating and exiting were incredible. Very organized and kept things moving despite the uniqueness of this awesome venue. Peter and the band were as sharp as ever. It was obvious that the years that have passed since "SO" was released have only added to their talents and abilities. I felt we were all very fortunate to have witnessed the event. Their sound was crystal clear and one of the best mixes I've ever heard at Red Rocks! Even their last minute warm up act was amazing. Peter's background vocalists, Jenny Abrahamson performed about 4 of her songs, accompanied by a Cellist, who's name escapes me. But their vocals blended perfectly and left me wanting to hear more. Other than the obnoxious drunk woman in front of us (Row 39, Seat 141) that tried very hard to ruin the experience for all of us around her - it was a perfect evening.

As my title indicated, Peter Gabriel is always amazing! If you were to ask me to rate his performance and his bands performance, then I would say five plus stars. Technically, the show was not put together well. I felt the energy, talent, and emotion of the musicians and music did not transfer to audience. The mix was lacking low end and depth. The lighting seemed off and did not fit the mood. The video screen to the right of the stage was distracting.

I really love Peter Gabriel. I really enjoyed most of the concert. Several of the acoustic numbers he did were poor translations of electric songs, such as "Shock the Monkey". The "So" album was a treat, however some of the songs, such as "Big Time" were done in a slapdash fashion that came off weak and thin. Tony seemed to be bored playing some of the songs. He didn't bother with any of his characteristic fills on songs such as on "Secret World" which was very disappointing. On the plus side, the stage set was fantastic. The mobile spotlights added drama and suspense to many of the songs. I especially loved the white column dropped from the ceiling during the "Tower that ate people" at the end of the show....brick by brick, brick by brick...that was awesome. All in all, PG is better than most shows on the road right now. He's a real performer that cares about his art and music and fans. I would definately do it over again.

Bought the Front-Row w/Sound-Check Package. Couldn't have been happier! We were brought into the sound-check at 4:00, the band played until about 4:45. We were taken upstairs into a banquet room for dinner: The food was good, we had carved, roasted turkey, grilled vegetables, salads, wild mushroom fettuccine, Italian Sausage rigatoni, etc. along with free wine and beer. Show started at 8:00 and ran until 11:00. Merchandise for those who purchased packages was a Peter Gabriel So blanket. The concert featured three separate parts, the last being the So album in its entirety. Pete said it was the first time the band had played the album in its entirety. I've been to four Peter Gabriel concerts and have always had a great time at the show!

There really isn't anything more that can be said about it. Peter Gabriel is an amazing showman. The stage setup seemed fairly simple, but with a few tricks everything seemed to be in motion. What a showman! The concert was done in three parts. First an acoustic set, then an electric, and finally the album "So". The roadies were all dressed in same color scrubs. Five huge crane-like lights were manned by fifteen men dressed in black suits and hockey masks. These lights played a big part in the theatrics of the show. "Mercy Street" was performed with Peter laying flat on his back the whole time, with his bald head facing the audience. "The highlight of "Solsbury Hill" was the guys skipping around the stage in parade fashion. "Secret World" left me speechless in it's beauty and the excitement of the audience participation. This was a fantastic and memorable show.

If this show comes within a few hundred miles, you owe it to yourself to go. Peter is in top form, his voice is in tip-top form. And as usual he takes whatever is handy and makes it art as a back drop. The show starts with the house lights on and he and Tony just kind of noodling through some some tunes like they might do in the studio/rehersal. Then the lights go down and the hits just roll, he brings em all out. Then part three is the whole album SO, played by all the original musicians from the recording. The whole band is in top form. Peter was hitting notes so pure... my brother and I would just turn and stare at each other. Hair on the back of the neck stuff... Really... just go, you won't regret it!

Accomplished on every level, Peter Gabriel came back to Philadelphia once again and dazzled the audience with poise and brilliance. Always the innovator of performance art but somewhat of a traditionalist musically, Peter with the original band who recorded his legendary album So came back 25 years later and performed an extended set of music that covered his body of work acoustically and electrically. I found the set to be moving and provocative and never lacking appeal. It was almost impossible to run to the concession stand or visit the restroom. He performed one song after another for over 3 hours without a break and included an innovative visual art show like only he can do. I danced. I sang. I marveled at the tightness of the band, the beauty of the songs, the lights and the imagery he projected. I even cried. Like an old friend you've missed so much, Peter came back to Philadelphia a little older (so were we) but we all spent the night together twenty five years later and it was just as good if not better. Thank you Peter Gabriel for making such intelligent music that is never pompous, arrogant or selfish but always deeply rich in thought and so engaging, that it can capture any audience that truly loves music. If you have the opportunity, I strongly suggest that you get to see this tour. It's truly remarkable and soulfully rewarding.

Peter Gabriel with the New Blood Orch. delivered an Amazing show last summer (2011) in Kansas City, MO. It was very special for me, because I had seen him in KC back in '75 (?) when he played at the Uptown Theatre there launching his solo career after splitting from Genesis. The first time I saw Peter Gabriel was in 1987 and it was at the Marcus Amphitheater. It was an iconic 80s preformance. Since then, I've been to see him a total of five times. Each show has been unique not only in music and staging, but also in personality. Gabriel has achieved what few artists can. He grows and broadens with each year, album, and concert. While many artists rely on holding on to past glorys and tired old playlists, artists like Peter Gabriel bring something new to the table every time around. This show was no different. I've seen and heard a lot of whiney reviews about how he didn't play this or that song, but the fact of the matter is; he's already played those songs and now he's on to something new. If that's not what you want to see, then go find some casino where some 80s band with two of it's original five members are playing all those familiar hits you remember from your awkward teenage years. But if you've grown up and developed a real taste for artistry, go see a Peter Gabriel show. You won't be sorry... Even if he doesn't play 'Big Time.'

Music, lights, live camera shots, and full utilization of huge moving video screens completed an audio-visual experience: not just a concert, a show. Including members of the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra, along with the London New Blood Orchestra members, was just the right thing to do. Peter Gabriel's performance marked the final date of his New Blood Tour, and red-suited crew members could be seen creeping out to the stage to entice the audience to dance and clap. Everyone in the amphitheater was having a good time. It was opening night at Summerfest and the grounds were still slightly clean, but the venue proved to be a disappointing detraction from what would have been a perfect show. Summerfest is touted as "The World's Largest Music Festival" and the organizers pack as many stages as humanly possible into their little piece of Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Unfortunately, noise pollution resulted when a conflicting act, playing on one of the free stages, could be heard rising above "Father, Son" and other numbers. The show itself was flawless, captivating with a fabulous encore freely given. Summerfest organizers owe Peter an apology for allowing Hall & Oates to step on his act.

Music was fantastic with cool arrangements for orchestra. Stage Show was very cool. The venue was a problem because it was at the Marcus Ampatheater at Summerfest and you could hear Hall and Oates playing at the next stage. Also, the theater has obstructed views that are not listed as such. Highlights were Rhythm of the Heat and Biko. Don't go if you are expecting a "Rock Concert". The songs were fully orchestrated.

The New Blood Orchestra was amazing, back up vocals need some re-tuning however their celtic sound was a nice touch. The biggest problem was the Location / Venue / Event. Just for the fact that Peter Gabriel has done this last tour with the New Blood Orchestra should have been set in say the Bradley Center instead. Being that it is an Orchestra and has loud moments as well as many silent sections of music, having this event at the Marcus Amphitheatre during Summerfest was really not an intelligent choice for the Gabriel crew to make. The deep booming Bass from the other nearby stages made Peter Gabriel almost impossible to hear when he would talk to the crowd in between songs no matter how quiet everyone was. Halfway through the concert they made a wise decision to stop playing in an effort to not compete with the opening Summerfest day fireworks which went on for 30minutes. The concert picked back up and finished after about another hour and a half. The show itself was really incredible but what made it not enjoyable was the Location (Marcus Amphitheatre) during Summerfest on opening day. (I guess I'm not a big fireworks fan when I'm trying to watch a concert)

Impressive, beautiful, mesmerizing show. Peter was terrific as usual, but combined with the excellence of the New Blood Orchestra, and the wonderful conductor, it was hard to turn away for a moment. Better than I could have expected.

Acts in the twilight of their careers often begin playing with an orchestra as a way of extending their viability, even though it generally heralds the end of their creative period. Whether this is an attempt to appeal to the older audiences who fancy themselves more sophisticated and mature, or an effort to retain some musical relevance in the face of the newer, younger generations of music that have usurped their former positions is unclear. A cynical listener might call it nothing more than a superficial excuse for charging a higher ticket price just to hear the same old songs. None of these apply to Peter Gabriel's collaboration with the New Blood Orchestra. Rather than simply overlaying a layer of strings onto the standard rock tracks, Gabriel, along with arranger John Metcalfe and conductor Ben Foster, has completely re-imagined each song in the set as though composed originally for orchestra. He acheives varying levels of success with this concept, as some compositions better lend themselves to re-interpretation than others: "Signal to Noise" is already orchestral in its original form, and thus there was not much room for exploration, which is what I was looking for from this format. On the other hand, "Intruder" derived a broader, more sinister feel from the new arrangement, right down to the whispered final lyric, "I am the Intruder", which in its hushed voice imparts a louder warning than the original shout. Metcalfe and Foster have long histories of composing and conducting for televsion and movie scores, and at times the arrangements felt like exactly that. The first set in particular often seemed stuck in the same dirge-like sappiness of a made-for-tv romantic drama. Fosters's bombastic conducting style seemed to be a visual cue for the audience, an effort to elevate a sometimes-rote cinematic soundtrack into something more profound. However, at other times the orchestra hit its stride, and Gabriel gave the New Blood players plenty of space to assert themselves. He often left the stage during extended orchestral parts, in order to allow full concentration on Foster and his charges (and also to sip tea on a cool and misty night in Massachusetts- to great effect, as he was in fine voice throughout). This worked best during the ending of Rhythm of the Heat, in which the complex drums of the original were replaced by swirling brass, winds and strings, and fully showed the power of the 46-piece ensemble. As expected at a Peter Gabriel show, he spent some time introducing his activist concepts into the between-song banter. He remarked that scientists are reportedly near to harnessing the power of nuclear fusion reaction. But rather than hailing this as a solution to the energy crisis which will enrich and liberate the entire world, he instead focused on the capacity for such reactions to also "destroy all the enriched plutonium in the world", which he apparently saw as a more important use for this technology. He also dedicated "Biko" to the "youths" of the "Arab Spring" who, he claimed, were overthrowing their governments in an effort to "get just a little more of what we here are all so used to." He entreated the audience to "please stand" to salute these uprisings, which I thought detracted from the power of Biko's original meaning. Judging from the cheering reception to these remarks, there were clearly plenty of fellow-travelers in the audience. The set-list was heavy on some of the deeper cuts from Gabriel's catalogue, and I for one was glad to be rid of most of the pop standards that were played to death in heavy rotation on MTV. I would have thought that "Family Snapshot" would have been strong material for an orchestral arrangement, but otherwise, I was generally happy with the songs chosen, and knew each well enough to enjoy the efforts to translate them. However, if you only know of Gabriel from "Sledgehammer" and "Big Time" then this show might have left you in disbelief.

Was'nt sure what to expect, from this old school rocker paying with a full orchetra(no drummer or guitars),but it was pretty cool. Peter seemed to be enjoying himself on stage & it came across as a walk down memory lane ,to me. The sound quality was excellent & our seat location provided a full view of the stage & the high end display monitors. Parking is a bit of a challenge(as its a residential area),but we arrived early & were able to get into one of the pay lots above the stadium.($20)

Peter Gabriel knows how to put a show together; even if it is stripped down and just him and (never the less) an amazing classic orchestra. Both him and the "New Blood Orchestra" made the evening unforgettable; an event to remember for a long-long time!!!

His stage presence is powerful for a man who doesnt use flash or fire. And wow, ive heard him so many times I cant remember but his voice live is truly spectacular. He totally blew me and my guest away. The New Blood Orchestra was unforgettable...

My wife and I have a "bucket list" that is very short and precise. To see Peter Gabriel in concert is (was) on this list. Over the years, we've been willing to travel anywhere in the world to see this illusive performer. He will occasional turn up in places like Germany or Switzerland for one night with only a day or two notice, then he vanishes. A few years back, I had the in sight to sign up on his mailing list. It finally paid off. Stories of Red Rocks Amphitheater have filled my ears for ages. I am 38. Hippes, Rockers & Ravers alike all speak of this majestic place like it is the "holy grail" of venues. Pairing the only artist on our bucket list with the "holy grail" of venues had to be a winner and not to be missed. This venue lived up to it's reputation. It was so clear and not at all loud. It was almost like I had 3D headphones on at a very reasonable volume. I could hear everything! Although I had dreams of seeing Peter perform in his hayday, this performance was nothing less than amazing. Now that I'm older, I think I appreciated the 30+ piece orchestra. I appreciated the meticulous arrangements, sounds, emphasis and best of all...his stories he told before each track. No price is too much to see this show. Just go!

A truly interesting show that touched on a song or two from most Peter Gabriel albums with an emphasis in the first set from the covers album Scratch My Back and and emphasis in the second set and encore on the So album from 25 years ago. The orchestra was discussed as half from England and half from Colorado, so it appears Peter is blending in local talent. The quality of the players was outstanding, even without having worked together as a group before. The one downside is that some of the music was a little slow and dull at times, particularly a couple selections from Scratch My Back. Fortunately the less interesting bits were accompanied by an entertaining lightning storm between the stage and Denver and we hunkered down through some light rain. The show started right on time with Peter introducing Ana Brun. The nine-song first set was slightly less than an hour and the ten-song second set an hour plus with a three-song encore. It was nice to hear a couple of songs I thought were gone from good from Peter's playlist. The interpretation of certain songs with strings in place of guitars added a different texture to some songs. Red Rocks is a magnificent place and I have always believed it helps to draw out the best from musicians. This night bolstered that belief and a good time was had by all I saw.

Peter Gabriel is in excellent voice and he's put together a show with a great sound system. This is an orchestral show - no electric guitars or drums, I knew this in advance and wasn't disappointed in the least. Kind of like Peter Gabriel unplugged. It helped that I listened to his new album Scratch My Back a few times to get familiar with the cover songs and the somewhat dark interpretations (compared to original versions). Vertical video monitors were installed on both sides of the stage and had lots of different shots on them - Peter, his female back-up singers, musicians and conductors, and some pre-packaged video. There were also other lighting effects and panels which added to the overall feeling. One of his back-up singers, Ane Brun, played a couple of songs as an opener. PG himself came out 5 mins. before showtime and talked to the audience - this was great - what a down-to-earth talent. Peter blew me away with important songs like Wallflower and Biko. He played a wide variety of material. The first few songs had added drama from lightning in the background in this open air venue. Then the rain came, but it was temporary. The only thing I had to complain about was the lax enforcement of seat assignments, people were scamming seats and moving down to more expensive seats than they paid for. We had people in front of us that couldn't behave (standing, smoking pot) and wished there would have been a way to have them moved back to their original seats. Bring a pocketful of cash if you want to buy alcohol in the venue - a glass of wine is $6.50. You can't bring your own beer inside the venue, but you can bring a picnic - just no glass or aluminum cans. Don't miss Peter Gabriel!!! The man rocked Red Rocks.

After a short rain drenching concert patrons, mother nature cooperated for a beautiful night. Red Rocks is one of the best places to see a show, enough on the venue. Peter Gabriel was in fine form, age did not spoil his voice. The New Blood Orchestra combination with PG songs were brilliant. Most of the songs were expertly arranged for the orchestra, not my hits were played here, but more familiar songs that were played sounded very beautiful."Solsbury Hill, In your Eyes, Red Rain".Peter Gabriel always puts on a quality show,I enjoyed the experience very much. The two back singers and the sound of the New Blood Orchestra were great . Good time all around, Anthony

The music was fantastic. Peter Gabriel still has that incredible voice and range that makes him so unique. Red Rocks was lovely. The audience was terribly rude - a lot of talking and milling around in the aisles during the entire performance. I doubt I'll go back there to see anything important.

I can get lost in Peter Gabriel's eyes. The first half of the show was cover songs and two of his own songs. The last song of the first half was BEKO. I was surprised the audience didn't stand up for this song? The second half was his songs and the audience really didn't get going until he played "Red Rain". The encore was great w/"In Your Eyes". Everyone was up and singing for it.

What a wonderful beautiful experience - Peter came on stage at the stroke of 8 and introduced one of his singers, who then performed 2 songs of her own, and then the lights went down and the stage lit up and the magic began. The weather was perfect, a clear and balmy 55' with the moon shining down. Peter sang most of his favorite big hits and the orchestra was great, really cutting loose twice on tremendous sessions. The show was so good I immediately went online to purchase tickets for upcoming show in NJ for my daughter's birthday later this month, which thrilled her no end!

Words do not exist nor can express the feelings I have after experiencing Peter Gabriel live at the Hollywood Bowl. It brought me to tears. Having a 50+ piece orchestra "back up" my favorite performer was true icing on the cake. The music came alive like no other kind of electronic manipulation ever can. The "graphics" that accompanied the show were a true addition to making a wonderful well-rounded show. I would love to experience it all over again ... and again ... and again!!! I hope that a DVD will be made of one of his tour dates from this brief series. Truly an amazing concert I shall never forget!!

I really enjoyed the concert, it was mesmerizing. Words cannot express to see a entertainer like Peter Gabriel to comeback from the 80's. I had great seats, 25 rows from the stage, or something like that. I enjoy the concert very much, red rain was cool, didnt play sledgehammer, or shock the monkey, I enjoyed all the songs he played, even the new stuff. Also a song he played was a Beth Medler song, from beaches, tin can kicking dow n the street, I think its gonna rain today, great song for the moment in the Hollywood Bowl, I have a friend moving to the East Coast, a good friend, she had a going away party the same weekend of the concert at Dana Point by the ocean, how the weekend tied in so well with my trip to LA,so that song was just right at the moment. Cheers to Peter Gabriel, well done concert. The beer prices are always expensive, lol, 13 bucks for a bottle of new castle, it was a big bottle, but in the real world u pay like 4 bucks for it, so shame on you hollybowl for making 9 dollar profit...lol. Oh by the way Hollywood Bowl can you ask your janitors to stop dumping the beers bottle in the trash can during the concert, section d, row 2 , seat 40, very loud and unenjoyable. Overall fun concert to go to.

Peter sang the songs in order of how they were laid down on the album with no stopping. The set lasted about an hour and then he took a break. Then he did about an hour and a half and sang this classic hits all accompanied by his 54 piece orchestra. The horizontal rectangle screen was raised to the top of the bowl and then there were two more vertical rectangle screens behind the orchestra. The light presentation was out of this world, so much so, that I can t describe it with words.

If you love popular music, you were like the 1/3 of the audience who left early. If you love progressive and classical music, then this amazing show was one that you have been dreaming of. It was psychedelic beyond belief as the special effects and lighting were so magnicient and tastefully done. The 50+ piece orchestra received countless standing ovations from the audience. The orchestration of Peter's music and the covers of his latest release were just beautifully done and performed by Peter. Peter knows what notes his voice can still hit and can't so he made sure that he had backing vocalists (one being his daughter) help cover those rare moments (unlike some people who need that desperately, Ian Anderson). There were some nice duets of classic Peter solo pieces with his daughter that were special for the two of them. The first set was the recent album start to finish which were unique covers of Bowie, Radiohead, Neil Young, Talking Heads & Paul Simon songs. Very tasteful. The 2nd set were Peter solo numbers that lend themselves to orchestration such as Rhythm of the Heat, San Jacinto, Red Rain, Mercy Street, etc. Prog does live. Thank you Peter for the reminder & for leaving Sledgehammer & Shock the Monkey back home.

The first half was "Scratch My Back" in its entirety. It would have been much better if the orchestra was magnified more. The visuals were very nice. The second half was songs from his past (Mercy Street, Solsbury Hill, In Your Eyes, Don't Give Up, etc.) It was a great concert if you knew that it was not going to be a typical Peter Gabriel concert. Very laid back. The only reason I give it 3 (instead of 4 or 5) stars is because of the sound. Maybe it was because of the Hollywood Bowl and being outside. If people were talking around you, it was hard to hear Peter and the orchestra. We had good seats so it wasn't because we were far away.

Peter Gabriel has always been a sonic innovator, and has always endeavored to bring similar innovations to the staging of his concerts. For his first Los Angeles concert in seven years, he continued this trend with the very effective use of a two-layered LED screen, and mixing up the video displays beyond simply showing what is going on for the unfortunate souls in the back sections. This time around, he also brought the sonic innovation by performing with a full orchestra. He then added the challenge of not bringing in his band (although Shankar did make an appearance for an encore of "In Your Eyes"). The show was broken up into two sections (following a two-song set by haunting Norwegian vocalist Ane Brun). First came a complete run-through of Gabriel's current release, the underrated "Scratch My Back", a collection of covers performed with full orchestra. Playing every song from the album was a good idea, since those unfamiliar with the album would likely have been impressed enough to pick it up, while those who have already enjoyed it got the privilege of seeing it performed live. Particularly enjoyable was the lush orchestration of "Heroes" and "My Body is a Cage", and the irresistible whimsy of "The Book of Love." After a 15-minute break came the second part of the show - orchestral renditions of Gabriel's early work. Fortunately, Gabriel didn't give in to performing his "greatest hits", but rather songs that lended themselves well to being played symphonically. This meant no "Sledgehammer" or "Shock the Monkey", but more lesser-known songs that screamed when played by orchestra, such as "Signal to Noise" or "Rhythm of the Heat." As a fan of Gabriel for most of my adult life, I was giddy to hear old and/or obscure favorites in an entirely new light. The primary reason the concert succeeded so well was Gabriel's obvious willingness to be subordinate to the miracles peformed by the orchestra, letting his work speak for itself rather than playing the rock star. Indeed, as the evening progressed, the video monitors focused less on Gabriel than on Ben Foster, his amazing conductor who looks barely old enough to shave and could win first prize at a Beck look-alike contest. His energy visibly radiated out to Gabriel and his vocalists, then out into the audience, culminating with the orchestra's encore of "Solsbury Hill", with Gabriel prancing around the stage with the same energy he had in the 70's. Consdering Gabriel's seeming reluctance to tour outside or Europe and his inevitably advancing age (although he showed no signs of slowing down on stage), this may very well have been his last concert in the U.S. Were that true, I could think of a no more fitting swan song than this. A million thanks to Gabriel and his team for a wonderful show!

The venue was perfect for this concert, although apparently the show has been received with more enthusiasm in its previous arena settings (according to PG's Blogger). I think the NY crowd was blown away, and sat in awe, Acoustics were incredible, as you would expect at Radio City. and the orchestra was amazing. PG's voice was studio perfect, and the accompanying video production was well arranged, and funny in PG's quirky way. I would have appreciated more of the big hits converted to the orchestra arangement. I think Shock the Monkey would have translated nice, as would have Sledgehammer and Steam. "Solsbury Hill" was a highlight for me, along with "In Your Eyes", and "Don't Give Up". If your going to a "New Blood" show in the future, pick up the album so you know what to expect.

Radio City was a great place to hear Mr. Gabriel expand his repetoire and sing a few carefully selected tracks from his new covers album Scratch My Back . He had a 54 piece orchestra with a lush sound and an interesting scandanavian artist singing backup in conjunction with his daughter Melanie. I preferred Heroes- Bowie and My Body is a Cage among the covers. The second set consisted of his songs which seemed to shine as superior on their own merit. Another favorite moment: Running into my Italian friend and his lady in the t shirt line. We met them the night before in a local record store..small town!

On my walk into work this morning, I fantasized running into Peter in a deli or passing him on 7th Ave or Central Park South. I want to tell him how very much I appreciated what he created last night. I want to tell him that my husband has been a fan much of his life and has been in love with Peter's earlier work and grown to absorb and relish his more recent work. I want to tell him that it was for my husband we went last night, but it was ME who got the most out of the experience. I was moved by swells of strings and the staccato of brass, breaking down fully on Book of Love and Mercy Street. But the songs I hadn't known before were what broke my heart and seared my soul's memory for all time to come: Mirrorball's "... we kissed like we invented it. Now I know what every step is for: to lead me to your door..." Yeah, sure they're Elbow's lyrics, but Metcalf's arrangements with Peter's interpretation is what will stay with me forever. I am new, I am full, I am beyond expression. I am tearing up again right now. See? I want to thank Peter for that. Maybe if he reads this, he can fantasize running into me and hearing me say it to him in person.

I have seen Peter Gabriel twice over the last 20 years. He was wonderful and creative both times. But with a 54-piece orchestra, I really didn't know how it was going to be...and it was nothing short of AMAZING. I was brought to tears many times...just because of his voice. The orchestra put such a nice touch on everything. And alot of the songs I have never heard...usually a show when I don't know the songs, it's boring and disappointing...there was not one disappointing moment about this show. Bravo, Peter..I am going to try to go again tonight, but this time I will bring tissues.

After Genesis, Peter and I went our separate ways. I continued on with Genesis with Phil Collins at the helm. It was not until a good friend re-introduced me to Gabriel's Security Album (still on vinyl) I would listen to Him on headphones while falling a slumber at night. Upon awakening, something in me had changed. As the soft rumbling of songs like The Rythm Of the Heat, The Family And The Fishing Net and San Jacinto coursed it's way through my unconsciousness. I somehow awoke feeling The Music deep in my soul. Beyond words can describe, the subliminal Lyrics & Music of Peter and band gently struck me like a soft brick breaking a window in an unforgettable dream. In a moment, void of notice, I was SOLD. Like lock, stock and barrel In an exquisite movie I found myself in a flash- Head Over Heels in Love with this album. Thus, ends the Genesis Movement, for now. So, as to re-kindle the fire, or to make room for The Gabriel Once Again. Once Again- Peter's Back in my life. Now, stronger and stranger than ever. Yet, greater in my mind and more compelling than before. In short, I found myself, by and through Security. I can honestly say that I am forever more than a Loyal Peter Gabriel Fan- From Life A New- To Revelation. Amen

Discovered Peter Gabriel in the 80's with his Shock The Monkey video. Became a hard core fan after watching The Secret World video and wanted to watch him perform in person ever since. Did not get that chance until 2012. I found out Peter was touring but was not coming to the Seattle area. Knowing this may well be his last tour my wife and I decided to fly to San Diego and watch Peter in concert. We were not disappointed in the least. The trip was well worth watching this consummate musician perform along with David Rhodes, Tony Levin, Manu Katche ,David Sancious and the wonderful Aennie Abrahamson and Linnea Olsson. People asked me how the concert was. The only answer I could give them is, "It's Peter Gabriel". You can't put watching him perform into words. You just have to be there. Would I do it again? Yup! If you have the chance to see Peter Gabriel, go. It's well worth it.

I've never been to a concert before because I was never able to see Mr. Gabriel perform because he wasn't touring in my area or I wasn't able to attend for various reasons. I finally got the opportunity living in North Hollywood, I walked two blocks to the subway and took it one stop over and walked another two blocks and got on the Hollywood Bowl shuttle. Easy. Peter Gabriel and his entourage of melody makers kicked it off with an acoustical section including a version of " Shock the Monkey" and it sounded fantastic! The next section kicked into electronic life with a large dose of Digging in the Dirt and then took us to his Secret World. He played many favorites then finished with the entire So album it was a fantastic show, it looked and sounded great! I was towards the back but it's true that there's not a bad seat in the house. Great venue I look forward to my next visit!

This small venue and simple, but effective, light show gave the music a chance to shine. Between having the original artists, and Gabriel's attachment to the songs, the show had an intensity that I did not get when I saw the Madison Square Garden "UP" show. Peter Gabriel is a true musician and performer. This show was awesome!

Time has not changed the amazing performance of Peter Gabriel. They energy of the crowd was enthusiastic and ending the night with the "Biko" tradition gave me chills. 7th show for me. 1st for my daughter. A new fan.

I would like to thank Mr. Gabriel for having the passion to keep on playing. I was never able to see him as a teen but his talent was well worth the wait. His voice is still as strong as ever! Absolutely fantastic show!

We've seen him 3 times since 1992. This was the best show. He played all his best music without the usual diversions into odd songs. His voice has become deeper and more rich through the years.

As someone who first saw PG in a small theatre for his first solo show and many times since, I hate the fact that this show bored me. While his voice is still strong and powerful, he seemed to lack the passion of past performances. Moreover, my wife, who has loved every PG show we have attended, commented that she was also unimpressed. Perhaps my personal history of seeing him in his prime, when his shows were second to none, have dampened my enthusiasm for his recent shows. I would recommend the show to those who have never seen him. However, for this fan of 40 years, I think I'll pass next time.

The music was great. Peter sang as well as ever. He danced a bit and pumped up the crowd pretty well for an old man! ; ). Tony Levin is a monster bass player and he put on a clinic, demonstrating different styles, techniques and instruments. He did everything from bowing an upright bass to slapping a stick bass and playing what looked like a sitar. He even sang back-up and danced like a fool. All of the musicians seemed to be having a great time and played with enthusiasm and energy. My complaint is the lack of costumes or theatrical effects which Peter usually brings to his performances. There was only one set piece at the end of the show that involved a big prop. Also, the lighting and cameras for the video were very large and sometimes obstructed the view from the audience. There was a very large crew and a lot of expensive heavy equipment that contributed little to the show, but probably had a lot to do with the high ticket price. Next time I would recommend that Peter keep it simple or present something that looks good to the audience and not just the cameras.

Peter, You redeemed yourself. After the last concert with the orchestra, you definitely came through. I took my girlfriend to the last tour and we both hated it. I bought tickets again thinking I should give you another chance. I took my girlfriend again but did not tell her where we were going in fear that should would not go again. She loved it. Thanks Peter! I have to say I missed the the lighted jacket, the hampster ball and segwees. (did I spell that correctly?) but since so much time has passed since that tour, I understand you are a little older. Thanks again for a great might., Ron

The concert itself was a 5 star show. Peter Gabriel did the songs the fans wanted to hear and his voice sounded great. He rarely tours, so this was indeed a musical treat. The reason I knocked it down a star was due to the Red Rocks staff. They'd blocked off all southern routes getting out of there, forcing us to go about 20 miles out of our way.
