I'm a huge fan of the music of Ray Charles, but unfortunately this show was very very disappointing in terms of the quality of the singing and overall performance. I actually left a few minutes early, and I've never left a show before the end in my life. The biggest and most obvious problem was that the backup singers were just terrible--totally off pitch for much of the time, ruining the music, and frankly, hurting my ears. I was astonished. Another problem was that after a few numbers, the lead singer left the stage for about half an hour, presumably to change clothes, leaving the middle-aged white guys in the band just jamming out, which was totally boring and had nothing to do with Ray Charles. Also, the duet of "Baby, It's Cold Outside" was painfully awkward and not well sung. And the lead singer doesn't have any personality or charisma and didn't say anything interesting or engaging in between songs, and doesn't seem to know much about Ray Charles or his music. The music direction was also poor--the tempo of a couple numbers was too slow, causing them to drag. It just wasn't good--if I hadn't gotten my tickets for free, I would have asked for a refund.

I would have given this 5 stars, however his backup singers lessened the ratings. He was excellent. The backup singers were sometimes off-key, or even straining to achieve certain notes.

I thought the performance was amazing. The performers were engaging and kept the audience. They sang some of the greatest Ray Charles songs and kept their energy up the whole performance. The band did a wonderful job.

"Forever Ray" was a great tour of the treasures of RC - heavy horns, great singing, overall a wonderfull evening. Only hesitation: the lead male singer's imitation of RC was maybe a step too far - sun glasses OK, but imitating the body language of a blind person - perhaps overdoing it.
