Family of the Year
FAMILY OF THE YEAR IN CONCERT:Indie rockers Family of the Year are quickly rising to the top of the Los Angeles underground music scene with their infectious hooks and bright, sun-soaked melodies. The four-piece consists of brothers Joe (vocals) and Sebastian Keefe (drums) alongside bandmates James Buckey (guitar) and Christina Schroeter (keyboards), and together they create a sound as tight-knit as their namesake when they perform. The band's live shows pack a serious punch as they tear through songs like the anthemic "St. Croix" and the popular hit "Hero" from 2012's Loma Vista with a passion and energy that can't be matched.

Family of the Year were amazing as always.. They sang songs from their 2nd album, "Loma Vista" and from their new album. They sounded amazing, were very energetic and interacted with the crowd a lot.

I discovered Family of the year 4 or 5 weeks before this event on a Friday. By the end of the weekend I had downloaded the 2 latest albums and was hooked. We happened to have plans to be nearby that afternoon (to see Don McClean) so got tickets for the Sunday night show in Boston. The Family of the Year show was simply amazing. Keep in mind that this is from a guy turning 59 in a few weeks. I think it's safe to say that I could count the over 40 crowd without using all of my fingers. The bulk of the attendees were college age from the surrounding area. Wonderful young adults I have to say. We had some nice chats. From the first note the sound was bold, full and energizing. All of the detail of the recordings was reproduced with little bits of extra live performance punch. It never degraded to jamming, guitar wanking or other unrecognizable activity. They just kept delivering solid performances form Loma Vista and the New Family of the year Album. The brothers, Joe and Sebastian did a and Acoustic rendition of Summer Girl and they absolutely have that brothers magic when they harmonize. About 1/2 way through the set there was a song I did not recognize. It may have been a cover of from their earlier work. 3 days latter the show is still rattling around in my head and the recordings are intensified with the live performance perspective burned into my psyche. We are attending 50+ shows a year and this was a standout and in many respects a high water mark. I am following them closely and plan to go the extra mile to see them when they are in the region again. The 4 principals (Joe, Sebastian, James and Christina) were joined on stage by a bass player and another (local?) on acoustic guitar. A number of band members hail from Massachusetts so it was something of a homecoming The show was at the Brighton Music Hall. This was our first foray into a 'stand-up music hall. Once the show started I was dancing on my feet and the 70 or so minutes flew by. My wife enjoyed her cocktail and they took good care of the designated driver. I'd return there or try other similar venues based on this event. It was a great up close experience. Just don't tell my Otolaryngologist. Their style is unique but does have traces of other music I have lived my life with so discovering them was like getting a new pair of shoes that was already broken in. Keep up the great work and we hope to see you again soon.

I came to see Family of the Year and didn't realize that they were headlining alongside the Mowglis, so I got two shows in one (as well as Hunter Hunted, whom I missed). Both bands were great, really charismatic and energetic. I was glad to have heard the song by FOTY that made me buy a ticket!

Came for Family of the Year...and they did not disappoint. They put on an amazing, lively show. Sounded incredible (even given the less-than-awesome acoustics of the venue) Crowd was great, too. The big surprise for me was how awesome the Mowgli's also were--didn't know much about them prior to the show...but they were just as enjoyable as FOTTY!
