The Arcs

The Black Keys frontman Dan Auerbach stays true to his bluesy, soulful style while diving deep into R&B and ‘60s psychedelia with his new project The Arcs. Auerbach has recruited renowned musicians to add thrilling elements to his passionate and pop-savvy songs in concert while providing rocking gems that are guaranteed to bring the house down. Whether it’s the gospel harmonies on “Outta My Mind”, the warbling garage rock keyboards of “Put a Flower in Your Pocket”, or the echoing percussion of “Stay in My Corner”, the group explores and succeeds on each stunning song as ticket buyers sway to the infectious rhythms and catchy choruses. This is one si.

Dan was really into it, the band was great, the crowd was into it, too! I saw them late last year at the Ryman in Nashville and they added some new songs since then. Dan did an appearance & signing at Vintage Vinyl before the show which was nice.

The Arcs were amazing, the roof felt like it was going to blow off the ryman.

I expected a little more of an edge feel to the show. The 2 drums were great and the backup singing trio brought the excitement up a notch, but there was something missing. Maybe another Black Keys tune or an seasonal song added to the mix. It felt too scripted as the show went on.

Literally amazing. Dan is so fun to see perform live. Having those women singing with him made it even better. One of the best concerts I've been to.

Such an opportunity to see The Arcs in a smaller venue. Was so glad to see the Mariachi members added in to The Arcs set as well!

Venue was fine, but the sound mix had too much bass for my taste - even though their sound is heavy on bass and fuzz this was borderline unenjoyable. I was initially about 20 ft from stage: two drummers plus bass player drowned out most other sound except for tinny highs from guitar and cymbals. Moving to the back of the venue near the sound board only improved it a little bit.

They killed it! I loved how they opened up the show by just a slow jam that didn't seem to make sense and rolled right into velvet ditch. It was amazing! It reminded me of the videosive seen of Pink Floyd performing with Syd Barrett where the projections castes shadows on the back drop. Also I remembered most of the set list but it's not in order. That's about 95% of the songs performed.

Dan and the rest of the band are creating some of the most fresh sounding music this year, with a combination of blues, soul, and R&B. This is the second time I've seen them (the first time at the Bowery Ballroom) and they put on a very solid show, playing extended versions of certain songs and playing some new stuff as well. It's obviously a very talented group of musicians creating some unique music!

ok - i'm a massive Black Keys fan, but in my opinion, the Arcs show wasn't good at all. I was very disappointed - there seems to be a pattern developing with Dan Auerbach shows. The Black Keys only played @ Phillips Arena for about 1 hr 15 mins, with maybe 3 songs after encore. Pretty poor for near $100 tickets. The Arcs played for a mere hour, with a 1 or 2 song encore. (Dan Auerbach - take note - i saw The Foo Fighters @ Centennial Olympic Park in Sept - Dave Grohl and co rocked their heads off for 2 hrs 15 mins! This is what you expect when you pay nearly 3 figures for a concert ticket). Again, very, very short concert, except this time i didn't care that much, as i found the music to be weird and boring - it did nothing for me at all. There were many who seemed to enjoy the show, but the Arcs music obviously isn't for me. More like loungy, and at times caberet-sounding music, interspersed with 3 female mariachi back up singers who at times sounded like the back up on Pink Floyd's "Great Gig in the Sky" (which i love), but it sounded weird with this music. Sorry to those who enjoyed the Arcs, but just giving my opinion. I definitely wouldn't sit around and listen to their music, not see them live again. Black Keys CDs, however, get worn out in my CD player.

This is my fourth time seeing Dan Auerbach in concert, the first three of which were for the Black Keys. I hadn't heard too much from The Arcs, aside from their main single, but I thoroughly enjoyed listening to their music for the first time live. The use of lighting and background imagery made the experience even better. I had never heard of Mariachi Flor De Toloache, but they were much better than I was anticipating and they joined the Arcs as backup vocalists after they opened. The Orpheum was a great location and our seats in the balcony had a surprisingly good view of the stage too. This was a fantastic concert!

The Arcs were awesome!!!Love how this band blends very different genre sounds, from blues to r&b to psychedelic rock. What can I say, lead member, Dan Auerbach is so uniquely talented & kills it on the guitar!!! ;)

Dan Auerbach's collection of musicians from Akron known as the Arcs put on a solid show on 12/9/15 at Terminal 5. I'm not sure how Dan hooked up Flora de la Toloache, the female Maricachi band whose 3 members also served as the Arcs back up singers and occasional musical accompaniment. The crowd gave the opening act a nice round of applause, but it was weird for me. Playing a Nirvana song to mariachi music stretched my limit. I felt like I may have missed out on my margarita and burrito somehow. Dan Auerbach's guitar playing was clearly the main attraction in the steamy room (anyone at Terminal 5 know how to use a thermostat) . No disrespect to Patrick Carney (Black Keys) or the rest of the Arcs, but this is Dan's show. Some of his songs can be a little too slow for my liking, but when he lays into one of his signatures guitar riffs, you remember why you came. I'm not sure how long this side project will last, but they were entertaining. 3 1/2 stars.

Loved the band and the venue - though standing for 3 hours is hard! But you can get close to the band. Phenomenal band - very old school, at time, but definitely has the Black Keys vibe. But they are taking the original band sound much further. It feels sorta of blues/rock and jazz. Love the band.

I really was looking forward to this concert. Both the Arcs album and the live concert filmed by NPR were fantastic. However, the sound for the show was too loud to the point that it sounded like mud. The back-up singers were screaming, rather than singing their lyrics with further sounded bad. Note that I was standing on the floor about 10 feet in front of the sound board. My advice to the band - turn down the volume a bit and for the back-up singers - try sounding like you sound on the album - no screaming. All the best - tomorrow is another day - try it out!

Great show, the band seems like they've played together for years. Although T5 isn't my favorite venue in the city, seeing this group there was well worth it. Hopefully we have future albums & Arcs shows to enjoy. Bravo Dan & Co.

I can't put into words how awesome this concert was! Almost better than being in the pit for The Black Keys! I hadn't listened to much of their album, but it didn't matter! The Arcs know how to jam and know how to put on a great live show! Thinking about driving to Nashville in 2 weeks to see them again!

Due to the size of the venue, the sheer passion that the band has for the music and the overall night of playing music live it was unforgettable. I would recommend anyone to go see this band. Even if you don't know every song you can jam out and watch some incredibly talented musicians.
