Elbow will make a much anticipated and welcome return to Australia for four special shows. Fellow Brits and special guests, Bombay Bicycle Club, join Elbow on tour in what will be their first Australian shows. Tickets go on sale at 9am Tuesday December 6. I was actually prepared to be disappointed, since their online setlist didn't include Leaders of the Free World or Audience With the Pope. (I still think those two songs should be a MUST for their shows) But live, this band is absolutely amazing! Even their low-key mellow songs from the new album are much more dynamic and powerful when you see/hear them performed live. Elbow is big in the UK, much less so in the US, but more Americans should discover what an amazing talent Elbow really is!

Being originally from the UK and having lived in Manchester for two years, I know Elbow very well and there they fill huge halls and stadiums. Here though they were in an intimate setting and the rapport between Guy Garvey and the crowd was instant. Funny stories interspersed heart wrenching, anthemic and quirky songs, each with a melody and hook you would be humming long after the gig. At the end they finished with One Day Like This, which the crowd then proceeded themselves while awaiting the inevitable encore. Final song of the night was the rollicking, Grounds for Divorce. And brilliant end to a 'Magnificent' evening.

Elbow is amazing live. Center stage theater is a great venue - seats are first come, first serve and the sound quality inside the theater is excellent.

Guy and the rest of the boys never fail to entertain. Seeing them at Center Stage was fantastic; the acoustics are great, and the venue is just the right size--not too big or too small. Guy adds a personal element to every concert, and calls us the Lost City of Atlantis. :) I also love the fact that Guy always introduces the songs, interacts with the audience, and gets feedback from us. When Elbow comes to town, it's like seeing old friends again. I don't care what my budget looks like--if tickets are on sale for them, I'm buying them somehow!

Elbow's journey from a small town in Lancashire to playing large auditoriums and headlining festivals has taken 20 years and is now complete. And they deserve it. The "size" of the new show did not come across in a venue of the size of Centre Stage but it does in bigger places- lights, sound, displays behind the band etc. Guy Garvey is one of the most genial frontmen in the business- he has a great gift for interacting with the crowd, no matter what the size. He makes everyone feel "his mate" and, rather like his lyrics, there is an intimacy to that relationship. His throat was obviously giving him some problems- echoes of an earlier Atlanta show which ended with fans helping him out on stage. But this did not detract from the overall excellence of the performance. I have two minor criticisms: there was no material from the first two albums and it would be good to "get to know" the other members of the band in the way that we now know more about Guy Garvey. They are all stars.

My husband and I discovered them earlier this year while traveling overseas. We kept hearing them on the radio and loved them. The show was amazing! They really have great interaction with the audience and loved how they played a mix of all their songs not just their most recent album.

I'm reflecting back on the "Elbow" show Phyllis and I went to the other night. Realizing I was spending some cash on a band that had really 3 songs I liked, I went because I REALLY liked those songs and I realized being a Northern Californian, I might never see this band again. I understand Elbow is not a really big band but my friends had also commented that this is a band that is typically "not me." The songs are spatial, laid back, and subtle. there is no mosh pit at an Elbow show. What is dominant is "feeling." Garvey the lead singer and ale enthusiast, treats the audience as if we were all in a small pub in London. He walks on the stage with an ale (in a plastic glass like his audience) and opens with "Cheers Oakland" and guides us through his personal journey of human emotions. The sad "I miss your silly face, I miss your bad advice" as he laments to a lost friend. Let's be honest, no that dies is perfect and we all miss their imperfections as well of their perfection. To the ever optimistic "One day like this is all I need...." Although there is a small string section that is amazingly grandiosed with a wonderful mix, they and ALL instruments take a background to the EMOTION of the song. There are songs with guitars that never play a chord or a note. There are songs where the drummer may hit just a few times.Every is subtle. Then they break all their rules and rip into their top hit and a great blues rocker "Grounds for Divorce" where both the drummer and Garvey wail on the drums. The master of the pub, Garvey gets the audience to do his bidding with their hands on every song. Never loud never over bearing. One twist he threw on the crowd as letting us know, the band would not come back for an encore unless WE sang him a tune. he took a couple of suggestions and then the audience broke into "Fat Bottom Girls" to great amusement for all.

Elbow manages to recreate the precise sound and balance of their finest recordings in their live performances, while also adding an energy and passion that can only be expressed from the stage. With 6 studio albums to draw from, they managed a wonderful setlist, drawing favorites from their entire catalogue.

Elbow is the perfect combination of really talented musicians, with a wonderful singer, smart and sensitive lyrics, with a witty delivery. They can rock and then they can effectively render a beautiful, sensitive ballad. I came away feeling that this is almost perfect, which, in my experience, happens very rarely indeed. The lead singer holds the audience in his hand, with humor and interesting commentary. They didn't try to be too loud, so the sound was very good all over the Fox Theater. Anywhere you sat or stood or danced it was fantastic!

Once again, Elbow proved to be masters of their craft and delivered a finely honed set list that covered selections from their new album , "The Take Off and Landing of Everything" and outstanding selections from their deep catalogue of crowd pleasers. Having seen them on different tours in different parts of the world, this one was special as it was in my own stomping grounds and at a small venue. They seemed a little more 'casual' than usual, but it did not take away from their professionalism and delivery. The newer songs proved road-ready, and we saw the beginnings of a couple of new classics ( "Sad Captains", "New York Morning", "Real Life (Angel)". Guy Garvey's vocal performance was nothing short of breathtaking, all emotion, melodies and nuances in place. If you have never seen Elbow live, and are a fan, I strongly urge you to check out their next show.

I'm so happy to see that America finally "gets it." Elbow is unique. Not many bands can do a live show and sound great but Elbow nailed it. The words to their songs paint pictures. Happy it was sold out and becoming popular here. So many people were singing the words! When are they coming back? House of Blues is beautiful inside, but as a venue it's horrible. Many people had the view of someone's back. We were lucky to ferret in and out and found ourselves upstairs where we had an ok view. They need a bigger venue next time, like Rosemont Theater.

On the one hand, I remain disappointed that Americans haven't caught on to the sheer awesomeness that is Elbow. On the other hand, the fact that Elbow are so relatively unknown here helped contribute to the perfection of the show. We were able to be in the front row and get to see Guy Garvey's immense talent up close and personal. What a showman! And what a voice! Elbow's music could fill huge stadiums, and yet it paradoxically also brings together a small crowd with an intimate grandeur. Garvey manages every moment and owns the stage. I was so impressed as well by his attempts to connect with as many audience members as he could. He made eye contact with person after person. This concert stayed with me long after we left the Electric Factory. I loved the band before but now...now...so much more. I hope they come back to Philly soon. I'll be there!

What an honor and such a treat. Britain's best band in such an intimate venue. 10 feet from the stage without being moshed to death. An audience from 7 to 70 years, all going ape. The band were on exceptional form and Guy let us into his heart with such grace and charm. They looked as though they were enjoying it. The Electric Factory is the perfect venue, though their hard cider sucks like a Dyson. Songs old and new - all anthemic, be it ballads, pop or stompers. A totally top drawer gig and my partner and I rated it the best gig of our lives. John Grant was an ideal support act, love his voice. Immediately went out to try to get tickets for NYC tonight, and bought both Elbow and John Grant's latest albums. Being a total wuss, Guy's live rendition of The Night Will Always Win set me sobbing. Now have a Pavlovian response to the song, which means I can't listen to it while driving. Small price (literally and figuratively) to pay. Get your lardy bum to an Elbow gig forthwith!

The show was surprisingly energetic given how mellow the studio stuff is. They are consummate musicians and Guy Garvey is an amazingly affable showman. They tour with two violin players/back up singers, so the strings obviously don't sound synthesized, which is huge. The whole effect (and by "whole" I'm including being a little drunk and stoned [in CA that's okay]) is transportive. I actually teared up during The Birds.

I LOVE Elbow, have seen all their Bay Area shows. Their music is best when paired with lots of strings, i.e. the BBC recordings available on YouTube. However--this show was loud, loud, and obnoxious, as if the 45-70 year olds in the audience like that kind of thing. The light design was....dark stage, lights shining in the audience face. The sound and lighting designers need to take a hike, and let us enjoy Elbow's wonderful music.

The venue is awesome, great location, excellent open areas, site lines and access in and out. The Elbow show made it perfect as they are truly under rated for their strong melodies, thoughtful lyrics, etc, but live, Guy Garvey is one of the best, most engaging lead singers anywhere. Have seen 100's of concerts from U2 to Sigur Ros to Sufjan Stevens but he is one of the rare entertainers that seems to genuinely love his job and his crowd and takes the time to fully participate. Their songs can be a little slow but the muscianship and stage presence of Guy with an underappreciated vocal range elevates the entire show to unexepected levels.

Loyal long-term fans and fortunate first-time attendees were treated to a fantastic night of elbow at their absolute best. Having seen the band at the Avalon, the Greek Theatre and previously at the Wiltern, I can say that they continue to craft songs of incredible depth and intensity and present them in concert with honest, straightforward total commitment. This is elbow, this is their music, and I defy anyone present to not find themselves totally immersed, engaged and converted by the end of the night. Concert was wonderful but would have been better if it were not held at the Greek Theatre which is notorious for being able to clearly hear the conversations of others around you rather than the music being performed. There must be a noise ordinance given the low decibel level and adherence to each performance ending a bit earlier than most concerts. Saw the band 10 days earlier in Atlanta where the crowd were more enthusiastic and appreciative of the band. L.A. audience seemed to focus on their conversations w/others, getting beer and smoking weed. Band was in top form and Guy Garvey's voice on the mark. Will gladly see Elbow anytime, anywhere except for at the Greek.

I managed to time my entry just right, and got there just as Elbow started to play (No idea if DeVotchKa were any good, but I'll check them out online). I was in Section B, to stage left and had a decent view of the stage. The audio was great, and the seating and aisle space were comfortable. Glad that the weather was good too, because the Greek is open-air. The only complaint I had was with the visual effects that the band chose (or the Greek provided, don't know which) as they bordered on stroke-inducing flashes. Just turning a giant white light on and off rapidly is NOT a good idea, methinks. But great effects and lighting otherwise, and I had the best time ever. Elbow are a great band, Guy Garvey is very personable and there were many touching moments.

Sitting between a couple of 20 something babes and a couple of 60 year olds who were proud to share that they had once "made the Moon their Mirrorball" I realized the universality of these musicians, and that their draw was as much the remarkable poetry of the lyrics as it was the bravery of their musical choices. They never lack inventiveness as well as a personality of that brilliant boozy friend you love to spend time with in any event, be it bar or dawn subway ride back from a big mistake.

This was an outstanding performance by an outstanding band. The venue was perfect for their music - I think you would almost have to say that the evening was "curated". The Greek is perhaps the most intimate large outdoor venue in the country.

I came to this concert to listen to DeVotchka and meet what was a new group for me (Elbow). I was disappointed when it was 7:25 and DeVotchka was already playing as I was in line to get my wine. So by the time I got into my seat, they had already played 3 songs, including "How It Ends" my favorite. They played 3 more great songs and left. Elbow was OK, he has a good voice but I wish he sang more a capella as his voice could definitely perform as such. I will explore more of their music for sure. All on all it was a good experience. But I missed my DeVotchka, I wish they come back to perform by themselves.

Elbow exceeded my expectations as a live act. They have been on my radar for a long time, and I was glad to finally see them live. The crowds in LA are always touch and go, and this crowd was no exception. Half the crowd wanted to stand and enjoy the actively, while the other half stayed seated except for the ovations. Acoustically this was one of the most pleasurable and surprisingly pure shows I've ever seen. Next to My Morning Jacket and Radiohead, Elbow produced one of the best sound mixes I've experienced live. Their interaction with the audience also created a great vibe and fun atmosphere. At times you'll cry, at times you'll laugh. They brought everything to the table, and I will never miss them live again in LA.

Elbow is one of the best bands in the world, and it's good that more and more people are finally realizing that. Their show at The Greek Saturday night was gorgeous and intimate. Guy Garvey does a great job of interacting with the crowd and putting everyone at ease.

The venue was perfect for this group i think, The Greek Theatre is an outside Ampitheatre so it was a perfect setting. The Group themselves were wonderful, they totally got the crowd to participate, the set list was grand ! The stage show and humor of the band excellent. Couldn't fault this concert ......... it was amazing. Elbow ya did England PROUD!!!! I would most defienatly recommend going to see them . And would go see them again.

While the headliner, Elbow was polished and engaging with the audience, it was DeVotchKa that blew me away. This band features an amazing array of instruments and styles of music and certainly makes a person want to get up and dance. Don't miss a chance to go see these talented gypsies.

I'm busy here... so just a few words. Remarkably polished Great songs Amazing setting The frontman is David Brent They're British. But that's okay. A FANTASTIC concert. They've played for 20 years, and it shows. Even if LA's got the douchiest fans in the world.

This truly was one of the best shows, if not THE best show I've experienced. Guy Garvey is an amazing performer, singer and songwriter and the whole of the band are incredibly tight and truly look pleased to be doing what they do.

I've been to hundreds of shows of all types of music ... I've seen Elbow twice now, and both shows are in the top ten shows I've seen in my life. They're professional, but also have fun, and have a full band (with horns, keys) that produces an unbelievable sound.

I only recently got into Elbow and now I'm obsessed. I randomly looked online to see if they were coming to New York and I saw that they were going to play in just two weeks! I booked it at once and had the time of my life! Elbow is amazing! Their lyrics and music are just mindblowingly awesome.

I've waited to see Elbow for years. I couldn't catch them last time when they opened for Coldplay. And I'm glad I saw them at Terminal 5 rather than some big lousy arena. They played mostly from the last two releases, which are awesome. However, they did play "Great Expectations", the first song I heard by them, and blew me away. "Luv you mate!"...

The gig was amazing. Elbow's stunning songwriting shone through with their usual stellar performance. Their gracious & superb lead Singers voice, apart from being heart-stoppingly beautiful, was complimented by the acoustics at Terminal5, great venue. We had a great night and felt privileged to share the work of one of the best bands around!

Got to be the best band in the last decade. Guy Garvey should be poet laureate. Great set. Great musicianship. Loved the two violinists. Loved the drinking.
