Andre is one of Bostons best acts and deserves to be playing on much larger stages than he has to date. Supporting Peter Hook at the Paradise was a great opportunity for him to expand his fan base and this he most definitely did. I had seen him in smaller venues and with an audience more likely to favor his style so I was curious as to how the Joy Division fans would react to his blend of electronic music and for the first couple of songs there was some hesitation from the audience but by the end of song three they were clapping enthusiastically and by the end of the set he had them lapping it all up. Left the stage quiet rightly to plenty of cheering. Great night overall and great gig for him.

My daughter and I came to see and hear Freezepop and Kasson. I figured that we'd just skip the backup bands and come at the end to catch them. A big mistake. We caught most of Andre Obin and was quite pleased and surprised. His music, what we heard of it, was full of animation but not in a goofy, poppy way (like Freezepop); it had more darkness while still displaying a diaphanous quality. I'll be buying his music. I recommend seeing him perform, he clearly loves his work.

Filling in for an unfortunate circumstance for the band Memoryhouse.. WOW. Andre', you really set the stage and the tone for the show... 4/20 indeed. Andre's has the ability to take nugaze to whole new level.. and as a "one man band", he really makes it work. Eeery, yet dream like.. Obin produces some fat, juicy synth sounds paired with some melodic harmonies that give you goosebumps. And as the icing on the cake, obins vocals paired with his emotional energy really make for a phenomenal show.

It was my first time seeing and hearing about Andre Obin and I was truly impressed. The crowd was upset that Memory House wasn't there and when Andre came on many people thought he was "Washed Out". Despite the mistaken identity the crowd was easily swayed by his original sound and great energy to control a sold out crowd.

Andre started the energy which continued long into the night at the dice last week. His opening track "Soft Rain" was exactly what the crowd needed a strong dose of. The songs dancy beat, with smooth and dreamy synth arpegios, underlined with a voice only akin to Justin Broderick prepared us for the rest of the set. Overall great sound and performance.

I've been following André Obin's music for a while, and I thought it was a lucky break when he was asked open for Washed Out after Memoryhouse had to cancel because their equipment was stolen. The room was already pretty full when came on stage and opened with a really cool, haunting new track I'd never heard before. I think he had everyone's attention after that. I was surprised how long his set was and loved hearing recent single "Lemondrop" and a personal favorite of mine from his first solo EP, "xo 1979."

I saw this guy open for Washed Out on 4/20 in Boston. I just moved here and apparently he's from this area. To be honest, I think I liked his set more than Washed Out. Awesome production and interesting lyrics.

André Obin has been making exceptional music for over ten years in bands (Endless Wave, Matters & Dunaway, Eyes Like Knives) and as a solo artist. He is a multi-instrumentalist and is highly proficient with computers. He writes, records and produces his songs with a keen sense of sonic dimension creating vast multilayered hypnotic soundscapes reminiscent of The Cure, Joy Division, CAN ... His ability to recreate these lush layers in his live solo act is quite impressive. He is not simply singing along to a prerecorded backing track, he is manipulating tracks in real time while playing the keyboard and singing. He is also effectively manipulating his vocals through tastefully saturated effects which are always appropriate for the given song. These songs, never lacking in dynamics or memorable melodies, fill the room space with textures one can touch while keeping his audience dancing which was certainly the case when he opened for the legendary Peter Hook's The Light at The Paradise Rock Club in Boston, Massachusetts September 20, 2011. Obin's set, which included songs such as "The Arsonist", "Premonition", "xo 1979" and "Cinnamon" was enchanting and inspired, exactly what one would expect and want to lead into Peter Hook performing all of Joy Division's epic classic, "Closer". André Obin is a must see performer who was voted Best Electronic/Dance Act in Boston in The Boston Phoenix Best Music Poll 2011.
