Gruff Rhys

Gruff and John told an unforgettable story with humor and wit. The music was great---would love to see the show again!!

The show was incredible. I will not soon forget him playing to the crowd in the lobby as we left the building.

Y Niwl deserve alot of credit. they played a very tight set before backing Gruff. Song # 6 and 19 are really good. Gruff's ability to light up the crowd was evident early - he mentioned that the performer would normally play a tune that all the crowd would recognize and then cheer the comfert of that song. But he wouldnt do that. He asked the audience to clap to the begining of Rubble Rubble(which we all did) - then he went on to play a number of older songs - King Arthur was powerful. Gurry Gurry Gurry had the crowd singing along. He also did Pwddyn Oi 1 and 2 - and then he went to somgs form the new record- Shark Ridden Waters was great - he sang the ending which is normaly played as a record - honey all over rocked - and of course - Sensations in the dark was classic . Skylon for the encore - 17 minutes long - had everyone mesmorized. As a side note. i went to Paul Smith the following Thursday and the song "Honey all Over" was playing in the store. That made my day!

Show was fantastic. Rhys brings the same fun to his lineup as his Super Furry Animals shows. His backing band also kicked major butt. Y Niwl ripped it up as the opening act and brought a 60's surfer edge to Rhys's solo work that added a special touch to the show. Having personally owned his solo recordings, Rhys doesn't merely recreate the music you already hear on CD (or MP3 or whatever). It's stylistically different and makes for a treat at the show.
