Best desert stoner rock band ever. This dumb review plat form says my review text is to short so I'm writing something dumb like the fact that it thought my review was to short and stuff.

Great show and pretty good sound - although a little roomy, but not bad. Hope to god they come back and inspire more! The last good show I saw compared to them was CLUTCH, FU and MIRV. Thank you Kyuss, for coming back.

The show was amazing! I had gotten there late but still the first band that played blew my mind! The sword started pits within the first song and ended their set with psycadelic hard attack of their brand of stoner rock. All these bands only added to the excitement and energy of the crowd until finally the room darkend and the sounds for freedom run began to play with a cacophony of perfection. Suddenly the masses screamed their heroes of the desert came onto the stage as silent shadows and tore the roof off with their heavy bone shattering riffs sending everyone into the riot that was Kyuss Lives!

Big fan of the Sword and Kyuss. Of course the whole Kyuss Lives campaign cannot compare to whatever they were orginially like back in the early 90's, but good music nonetheless. I wish the lead vocals were more out front for all 3 bands. John Garcia is all about wailing away at the mic, so let's hear it! And i heard enough of the Sword's singer to wish he were louder too.

I listened Kyuss when i was 14 or 15 years old and it was 18 years ago so this was special for me. I never even dreamed of seeing them and i was so tired before the show that i thought i won't go but i would never forgive myself that thing.

Kyuss is back and making dreams come true by touring the world. Josh Homme isn't part of the lineup but Garcia, Bjork and Oliveri are jamming just as hard as ever. Bruno Fevery stood in for Homme with just the right balance of mimicing Homme's original Axe work and freestyling his own guitar solo skills in between. The band wasn't as active with the crowd as their music calls for and basically breezed through their whole set without stopping, save for the encore break. It appeared as though they aren't quite into touring shape yet as this was one of the first shows of the tour and they haven't been together since 1996. Sound is still amazing and they still have the most uncanny ability to break from a song with their instumental sections. The setlist would have been absolutely perfect if they did Space Cadet but suprising and awesome nontheless. Increadible show, hopefully they will be in Montclair in December...

the sword does not. could've done without that opening band. kyuss was awesome as expected. one song i wished they would've played was 50 million year trip. kind of shocked that they didn't. whatever they're still bad ass. mostly everyone was chill in the audience save for a few fatties grinding themselves against my backside and using me as an object to lean on. nothing a few elbow swipes couldn't fix.

The Sword reminded me of seeing a classic heavy band like Zeppelin, Metallica, Rush or something like that in their early days. Fantastic. Kyuss sounded great. Garcia's voice was awesome and I didn't miss Josh too much. I was pleasantly surprised by both bands' performances. The venue was fine. Friendly and casual staff were cool and didn't interfere with anyone's enjoyment of the show if you know what I mean. The opener, Monstro were cool too. The sound in the show was excellent and the set-lists were great. The place was crowded but not oppressively so. This was one of the coolest crowds I've ever seen a show with. Friendly, diverse in every regard and extremely knowledgeable about music.

It was great to see them playing again. It's too bad they couldn't get Homme in on the reunion. Fevery played a good lead guitar. I was a little disappointed they didn't play songs off of Wretch.

Kyuss reunited delivered the goods in Philly, with surprise being Nick back on bass out of the blue. Cool crowd, good vibes..it felt like the Kyuss I recall from 1993. They did a tight 90 + minute set, with a extended, trippy jam by mid set..the new Belgian guitarist was impressive too.

Twenty years later and the songs still hold up but the band does not. Without Josh Homme on guitar, it just felt like I was watching a really good cover band. Garcia should have just stuck to the regular lyrics instead of adding these yelps and yowls and extra crap to fill in for notes that he just couldn't quite hang on to or hit anymore and let the music do the talking. Troc is an ok venue. Crowd was a bunch of meatheads past their prime.

Kyuss has been a large liked band in the past and will always be there in my music taste. They rocked like always and delivered at best. The show was great IMO! Now that these guys are older they still step up to the plate and rock the house. I had fun seeing them and will do again if they provide the chance. The other opening acts SWORD and MONSTRO were great as well, good combo feel for these guys to all tour together.

First thing, if you go to the Paramount, earplugs are a must. The sound was so loud, it hurt. I had the pick of seats in my area, and in some of them, due to the excessive volume, it hurt in your chest. My first visit to the venue. The two opening bands were a surprise. Kyuss went on around 1030 pm. Kyuss was awesome. So glad I decided to go.

They were pretty good, but need Josh H. to play with them. You need a frontman with some presence. The Paramount is an awesome venue. They had a nice bar out front, and inside there were bars the entire length of the hall, on both sides! Then for those in the loge areas, there was a smaller bar up there. This joint is the best concert venue on Long Island.

It was pretty much impossible for me to stand still during this concert. Whether it was headbanging to the heavy parts or grooving to the slower sections, I was in constant motion. In my mind, that is the best way to enjoy a rock concert (or really any music).

I was stoked to hear that Kyuss was going back on tour, so I bought tickets. How could you miss something like this?! We missed the first (2?) bands but made it to see The Sword. They were pretty good live. I would recommend them too. Kyuss played an amazing set opening with Gardenia. WOW! I was in awe! The only bad thing about the whole concert: It was an all ages show on a Tuesday night before Turkey Day, it should have been 21+ only. Oh yeah, this venue kicks ass sound wise, but if you are short or get there late: good luck trying to get a view of the band. Luckily I was standing on a stair and got to see the whole thing.

Black Cobra opened, and I was regrettably unimpressed. Their music changed rhythm too often, and it was hard to hear a single thing the "singer" was screaming into the mic. It was impossible to headbang to. YOB put on a pretty good display, especially Mike Scheidt who was grinding against his guitar and making a vibrant display of the power stance and headbanging with his hair flailing everywhere. They played a nice mellow fingerpicked tone as their last song, which was pretty mezmerizing. Mellow but heavy. The only way to describe The Sword is "unforgettable". Every song they played was incredible, and even the crowd sang along with some of the choruses. Kyuss was also an incredible show, which is basically all I can say about them. Amazing.

Kyuss way exceeded my expectations! I've been listening to Kyuss' albums for 20 years, and I can say that the studio albums don't convey the true power that Kyuss possesses live! The sound wasn't even dialed in to perfection at the Regency Ballroom in SF, but Kyuss cut right through and proceeded to strip away all of my apprehensions about seeing them sans one of the original founding members. I was vindicated in thinking that this show would be special enough to warrant the 45 mile drive.! I could delve a lot more into technical details, but suffice it to say that if they are coming your way and you even remotely have an interest in them based on any of their albums, don't hesitate to see them live; the live show has more power than than the albums. Kyuss and Monster Magnet would be the dream team of Stoner Rock. Trouble would be a great band to mix in with this, too. OK, so I'm just fantasizing about a perfect Stoner Rock show.... Now the complaints: The only downside for me wasn't the band(s); the Regency Ballroom's liquor prices/selection were a ripoff. One double Crown Royal shot and a crummy beer cost me over $30, more than a GA ticket! Youch! Prepare to be stripped of income if you want a few good rounds. OK, so its' SF I guess, but a second mortgage just to get a few drinks?

For me, seeing Kyuss was unreal. I missed them in the 90's and have been a fan for years, so finally seeing them play after thinking it would never happen was mind-blowing. Their stand-in guitar player was totally on it, he nailed every note.

Papa Wheelie are a GREAT band- I've seen them twice now & they are good & loud. The Sword have been a favorite band of mine for 3 or more years now, & their new drummer makes their music even heavier!!! They never disappoint. Kyuss Lives! was excellent as well- I definitely recommend people go see them, regardless that it's only 3/4 of the original Kyuss band.

Kyuss Lives was one of the best shows I've ever seen. You'd obviously have to be into that sort of music, but if you are then you should be bummed if you weren't there. I missed the first opener, but the second one with the woman singer was the best opener I'd ever seen; that guitarist with the dreads was a mad shredder. My only complaint regarding the show is that I would have liked to see The Sword play as long as Kyuss did. But I love The Sword and that's just my biased opinion. Overall, a superb performance.

i don't get too excited about reunions so i came to this with low expectations. didn't watch the opening bands, seemed like your average johnny come lately generic mediocre "stoner" ilk. the venue itself was pretty cool. an old refurbished theatre which was aesthetically pleasing, but had horrible sound. that's one of the reasons i gave it 4 stars instead of 5. too much concrete, sound was bouncing of of every wall, not good for a a band whose emphasis is volume. that said, i never got to see kyuss back in the day, i have have only witnessed them live via youtube and bootlegs. so i had some idea of what to expect. youtube and bootlegs do not do these guys any justice, you really have to hear these guys live to understand. even though the sound was crappy these guys still managed to rip through a scorching set starting with "gardenia" and ending with "green machine". these dudes never had much of a stage presence, physically speaking. but their sonic assault that ebbs and flows, at times overwhelming at times soothing, more than makes up for any theatrics. "whitewater" is a good example of what i am talking about. their songs can go from full tempo rocker into funky psychedelic jams and back without sounding contrived. they are not just about volume and fuzzed out guitars and amplifier fetish. these guys were crafting a new brew of rock. taking from rock and all it's sub-genres and other parts of the musical sphere to create something all their own and very appealing to those who want hear something familiar that doesn't pander. this is your chance to see one of the last if not THEE last great rock band live. GO!

After twenty years, we finally got to see Kyuss. Even without Josh, it was worth driving to Pomona. Great set with great vocals and a pounding rhythm section. The Sword is rediculous live. That would have been enough to count this as a great show. Add in the Kyuss and all my stoner metal wishes came true. Go see this show.

Sound was top notch, Kyuss still rock, the venue has an awesome acoustic, the only complain was that I did see Nick Oliveri and John Garcia kind of cold, they didn't seem to enjoy to be on stage, but I really like the show, Briant and Bruno were super, the old Kyuss souns was totally there! I loved The Sword also, not really impressed with the Dukowsky Sextet( former Black Flag bassist), family band between L7 and Steppenwolf, the female singer has a great voice and overall they are all great musicians but they should chose if the want to play psychedelic, hard rock, or melodic rock, you can't mix and match and assume to have a good result, last song was a My War cover, the only one I liked.

From the get go I had a feeling that Kyuss without Josh Homme was going to be awesome, and it absolutely lived up to it! The tickets were way cheaper than they would be if Josh was a part of the tour, plus it attracted die hard fans instead of casual ones. The Sword put on one hell of a show too, which totally blew me away!

John Garcia, Brant Bjork, Nic Oliverie, and a guitarist from the depths of hell, named Bruno tore down the Old Gillies Sunday night! It was like it 1996 all over again, with the band showing just a few years of age. From Demon Cleaner to Big Sky, they played every song I could think of except Big Bikes. If you missed this show you should know you missed the what would probably be described as the best show to ever hit Dallas!

The venue was cool, but also dirty and kind of rickety; but still cool. The a/c could have worked a little better (hot room). It was upstairs and heat rises, plus lots of bodies = hot room. The security people seemed a little too anal at times, and then a little too lenient at others. I'm not sure what to think about them. I was there for Kyuss, so I'll forgo commenting on the first two acts. Kyuss played all of their tunes extremely well. That said, I just wish that modern sound-men (of the past 15-20 years, or so) wouldn't lean so heavily on the low end of the aural spectrum. By that, I mean that the bass always seems to be so muddy and sludgy in the mix. I understand that Kyuss is a bass-heavy band, but this always seems to be the case for most modern-day concerts. The listener can barely make out the individual notes that the bass player is playing. I'm not a sound-man, but it seems to me that too much emphasis is placed on the bass rig and the bass drum; and the drums in general. And, the vocalist always seems to be lost in the mix, and he/she should be the focal point of any show. The bass, drums, and guitar(s) are always plenty loud enough on their own, they don't need that much assistance. It's the vocals that should always be able to be heard clearly at the back of the house. That's all. Thanks.

I bought tickets for the Terminal 5 show in NYC not long after they went on sale. This was a "bucket list" event for me as I never got to see them back in the 90's. I didn't want to risk the show selling out. I wasn't concerned about quality as they'd played several dates already. I figured that if there were any kinks they'd be worked out. Well, I'm here to say that Kyuss fans shouldn't worry about Homme's absence at the concerts. New guitarist, Bruno Fevery, is a perfect substitute. Not only does he have the guitar sound matched up perfectly, but he plays all the songs with the finesse of someone who's been lovingly playing them for years. I was really surprised by Brant's drumset. All he had was a seven piece! Snare, tom, bass, high hat and three cymbals. That's it! Oliveri was surprisingly sedate. I suppose when you've just gone toe-to-toe with a SWAT team you probably have a lot on your mind and you're going to do everything possible not to make things worse. Garcia was an enigma. He didn't say "Hello" when they came out. He didn't talk with the crowd between songs. A few times he turned his back to the audience and focused his attention on Brant. It reminded me of Morrisson in his early years. Before he got his Mojo going, he had a bit of stage shyness. That could be the same thing here, especially when you're playing in NYC. There were a few smiles towards the end along with a "thank you" once the band wrapped up the encore. They played for an hour and 25 minutes, including the short break before the encore. They didn't play anything off of "Wretch", their under produced debut. Instead they stuck with the material from their better albums: "Blues for the Red Sun", "Welcome to Sky Valley", "...And the Circus Leaves Town". They were great! No forgotten lyrics or messed up riffs. It could've been 1995 for their sound wasn't messed with at all. It wasn't like listening to the CD's. There was no mistaking that this was live, with all of the little pangs of feedback and distortion that goes with the territory.
