The David Grisman Bluegrass Experience

Excellent musicians, great music, would have liked less Ramblin Jack which would have left more time to play some Old & in the Way tunes. They only played one O&ITW song - "Till the end of the World Rolls Round" I would have loved to have heard Midnight Moonlight, Pig in a Pen, Uncle Pen, High Lonesome Sound.......you choose David. Still a great show.

What a truly great show!! Ramblin' Jack is a jewel!! What a gift. This was my first time seeing Dave Grisman in concert,aaah the sweet sounds he maked with that mandolin!!! I was grinning with joy through the whole show!! Thank you for such a wonderful lineup!

The David Grisman Bluegrass Experience is a group of really talented musicians who sound really tight together. This was my first time hearing bluegrass at a venue like the Uptown Theatre in Napa, which was a really great place to hear music. I don't think there was a bad seat in the house. The music was great, but there were times when David Grisman got really chatty about the history of bluegrass. I actually fell asleep twice during the lectures. The music woke me right back up though, as soon as he quit talking. These people are truly gifted. If you're a fan of the music or just a casual listener, you can't go wrong with this show.

I've been a fan of David Grisman and Ramblin Jack Elliot for over 40 years, and though the title of the show should have let me know this was going to be something different, I guess I was still expecting more of my old favorites. Jack was fun as usual, and as I knew he was getting up there in years my expectations weren't all that high. I actually was hoping he might ramble a little more, his guitar playing was great, he was having some trouble with his voice and a cough but overall very enjoyable. Grisman's playing and singing was superb, but the song choices were a little disappointing, and I disliked a couple of his band members, in particular the guitarist's voice (whiny) and the banjo pickers picking (to me not up to par). Fiddler was terrific, and so was the bass. They did best with one or two examples of David's dawg music. I will say that the audience really seemed to enjoy it all, so don't take my word for it, go see them for yourselves.
