Passion Pit

Passion Pit

Ever since the release of their 2008 EP Chunk of Change, Passion Pit’s unique brand of indietronica has appealed to fans of both indie rock and electronic dance music, generating heaps of praise from those bastions of hipster cred otherwise known as music blogs. With the release of sophomore album Gossamer in 2012, the band kept crowds moving with a collection of ambitious and impeccably produced gems like “Take a Walk” and “Constant Conversations,” earning the album a No. 4 position on the Billboard 200. Passion Pit originated as the solo project of frontman Michael Angelakos, who penned the project’s first songs for his girlfriend before enlisting some of his classmates from Berklee College of Music to start a group.

I've been a long time fan and finally was able to see these guys. They did not disappoint. The sound was great and my ears didn't ring afterwards. It truly was one of the best nights I've ever had. I would see them again and again.

Atlas Genius opened for Passion Pit and they were absolutely fantastic live, which had me worried Passion Pit might not meet the standard they set for the evening, but Passion Pit did. The lead vocalist was a bit pitchy in the opening songs because his earpiece had fallen out but a couple songs in, he fixed the problem and sounded fine. It's hard to sing high-pitched songs as a guy, but he rocked it and the songs sounded very similar, although he did a more acoustic version of one of the songs. The vocalist showed amazing energy onstage, swinging the mic by the cord, lifting the microphone stand, and dancing in between lines! The lights at the venue were very colorful and synced to change with the music's changes in key, and the synth mixer sounded great with the bass speakers. Everyone in the audience was singing along and feeling the great vibes Passion Pit gave that night. Outstanding performance and a very fun time indeed.

Well chosen bands and an energetic line up. First time at Hammerstein Ballroom and was less than impressed. I guess it was a bargain, but it seems like a venue that is better suited to theatre and comedians, not live audio as the speakers that were near me distorted all the sounds that it became distracting. I still had fun and it was a good crowd, but I will think twice before coming back to Hammerstein Ballroom.

ok, who is the genius at WRXP behind last night's line-up??? i was impressed from the get go... and not one band disappointed. it really was a treat to see these four bands all in one night. each one successively blew the crowd away! i am not kidding, you know if you were there. do yourself (and all of these bands) a favor and run out and get their cds. happy holidays to all!

Manchester Orchestra was pretty good. Jack's Mannequin was amazing- only played 9 songs, should have been a longer set, but they played a great selection of their stuff. Passion Pit was incredible, but I wish people were dancing more. I left during Phoenix because the crowd way in front was awful and so rude.

I am an avid concert goer, so I was very eager to attend the RXP Holiday Extravaganza this year. The opening band Manchester Orchestra was a complete disappointment: their levels were way too loud, the singer was disastrous, and their put-up attitude was a complete turnoff. Jack's Mannequin did a better job both vocally and getting the crowd prepared for Passion Pit. Those kids destroyed the staged! In a good way, but the audience was another story: drunk teens pushing each other and doing it for the sake of it, when there was not a single reason to even start a mosh pit. I think that is something organizers should consider next year: I am not against young audiences, but it becomes annoying when you are trying to enjoy the band and instead have to waste the time elbowing people or trying to stay on your feet. Unfortunately, this experience prompted me to leave before Phoenix took the stage, but I am sure they were fantastic. About the host... Matt Pinfield, you are amazing, but PLEASE stop yelling on the mic! And the other jocks looked like they've been dragged out of bed against their will. No connection with the audience at all. The location was great, Hammerstein is a good venue but only if you are tall, because of the flat floor and the layout of the stage. Overall, I am giving this event an "average" rating.

I thought that Jack's Mannequin should have played more songs. I paid $50 to see them (didn't care about the other bands) and wish they played for longer! The crowd was lame too but I guess it was just that kind of event. Disappointing! Despite the lack of songs-- Andrew was still a great performer! :)

Heard great things about all the bands performing at Matt Pinfield's Holiday Extravaganza 1 at Hammerstein, so I decided to check it out. Phoenix was the band I really wanted to catch, so see what all the hype was about. I'm still scratching my head wondering. I feel sorry for today's youth if this is all they have to offer. Time will measure their true standing.

What an event. The music and energy of Passion Pit was upbeat and positive. It felt as if the entire amphitheater was dancing. Also, it was my first time at The Greek and the venue is easy to navigate and all staff members (ushers, concession stand cashiers, maintenance, etc.) were super friendly and very helpful. Im not sure if it was a band thing or a house thing, but the lighting was amazing. Best use of lights EVER!

My friend and I impulsively decided to buy tickets to see Passion Pit as a way to close out the summer before we started school the following monday. We knew we would enjoy ourselves but we didn't think it would be as incredible as it was. We didn't even get there that early and we got PERFECT spots. Passion Pit was so incredible; they are an unbelievably talented group of guys and their live performance was impeccable. It was honestly like a party. The energy, performance, and vibe was fabulous and the view of the new Freedom Tower and the city skyline once the sun goes down is breathtaking. I wish I could experience this night over and over again.

It was so worth standing in the rain for an hour and a half to see Passion Pit. We managed to get to like the second row in the mosh pit, and I'm so glad we were that close. Passion Pit put on an amazing show, and they play awesome live! The shoving from other people didn't even matter because when Passion Pit started playing, everything was all right. Most of the crowd seemed to come together with happy energy and we were all dancing and cheering together. I think Passion Pit's songs and music are so creative. The band inspires me--I often listen to them when I'm writing or doing art. I've created some of my best pieces listening to them! Their music is calming, happy, and just flows. They help me out when I'm having a bad day! Passion Pit was great; I'm definitely going to see them again if they play nearby! Each band member played awesomely. You guys are psychedelic! :]

Omgoodness what sights and what sounds the opening band Tanlines was very exceptional and a great match to open for Passion Pit, left with the idea in mind of buying their new album 'Mixed Emotions'. And then finally after an instrument set up intermission Passion pit came on. Now to be honest I had not heard much of Gossamer their newest album, and before the concert had one of two choices listen to it or go in and slowly discover new music. I choose the discovery route and loved the crap out of. The feeling you get discovering a new song you like is awesome, discovering it as you watch live 10 times better! The songs were awesome, I read a bad review on the bands live performing and that was totally untrue the lead singer Michael Angelakos vocals were awesome and on point. Cuddos to the rest of the band I remember the guy behind the piano also playing the guitar like a boss playing both at the same time! The lights and their choreography to the songs and the way every song had its own colors was awesome as well!!!!

even though I was pretty much in the last seat of the Pavillion, the concert was 10 times more amazing than I could have asked for. First of all I had never heard of Icona Pop before, and I had heard their song was the theme song for J-Wow and Snooki, so can you blame me for being skeptical? They completely changed my mind after they started playing!! Second of all I love Matt & Kim; I had been to a concert of theirs before and thoroughly enjoyed myself. They are such a blast and there is never a dull moment. Lastly, the main event- Passion Pit! "Little Secrets" has been my favorite song for the past five years and they thought they could leave without playing it, but they came back and finished with it strong. that is all.

Passion Pit may be the least likely band to ever headline a show at Madison Square Garden, but they certainly did just that, and met the challenge with extraordinary results. Icona Pop and Matt & Kim were both great acts to get the place warmed up (especially during the oncoming blizzard), but Passion Pit straight burned the place down. For a band who probably never played a stage remotely as big or legendary, Michael Angelakos and his crew played as if it were merely second nature to them, without a doubt. Definitely up there as one of my best concerts ever, and I am just nothing short of extremely proud of them for how far they've come.

Matt and Kim toured long with Passion Pit, and the show was wonderful. Matt and Kim were funny and very interactive, their sings sounded great, and they were very appreciative of Passion Pit and the tour. Passion Pit opened up magnificently and thanked Boston for being its hometown - their songs were spot on and the band was energetic and great. The set list had a good variety, ending in their most famous hit, Sleepyhead. Overall just great quality, only complaint is that I wish I had been able to get floor tickets!

The concert was really great! Michael Angelakos was wonderful! The fact that he was so happy about performing at MSG was touching! I'm so glad they sang Sleepyhead! It was so awesome!!!! I actually liked the seats we were in because we were right in the middle and we had a wall against our backs so we didn't have people spilling beer on us. Plus we were right next to the suites and people up there were handing us food and drinks lol! I don't know if it was the seats or the way the music was balanced but I had a tough time hearing Matt and Michael sing sometimes. It's like the bass overpowered their voices.

Passion Pit is always an amazing show, never disappointed with their performance. However, this is the second show at the Fox this year that has done a disservice to the artists because of the sound. I don't know if it's the theater or the crew who is a little hard of hearing, but it wasn't as great as I know it could have been. I saw Passion Pit at the Warfield in SF and it was a perfect as I could have hoped for, sound and all. At the Fox the vocals were often drowned out by the drums and synthesizers leaving you to hear the people standing next to you to belt out the lyrics because you could barely make out the lead singers, and BTW if you know Passion Pit you know the singers voice is unmistakable. I would absolutely see Passion Pit again anytime and anywhere, but I think I might check myself if it's at the Fox again.

the band played a great show and the venue and weather were equally great. the mad rush to the boat after the last song was not so great. that many people on one island was a little crazy. while i enjoyed passion pit, i don't think i'll be going to governor's island for another show it was just a little too insane. oh and did i mention they only have 2 ATMs with one line??!?!?! i think we waited in line for an hour hoping it wouldn't run out of money. come with money if you come at all. also hit up the beer girls that walk around the venue instead of the stands. no line and the can's of beer are only $6 instead of the plastic cup for $7. we also forgot to bring chairs or a blanket. there seemed to be a lot of underage drinking going on too, not sure if that makes a difference to you but i was a little annoyed by those kids. they did make for some good laughs though... overall it was a great show though!

Overall, the event was spectacular! Brahms was really great. An awesome band with a promising future. Tokyo Police Club was wonderful. Their album "Champ" had just been release that day so I wasn't as familiar with their newer stuff. They were fantastic! PASSION PIT was ridiculously superb. It was different from other concerts in the fact that Mike didn't introduce the band members or any of the songs. This added to the style of the music though and kept the crowd pumped. The security was excellent. I was front and center and really appreciate the bouncer who picked up the guitar pick for me!! A really wonderful experience overall!

Had a great time; the entire venue had a happy and energetic vibe. The opening acts were good appetizers but Passion Pit was amazing.

So happy I finally got tickets for this show. The last time they came I thought I could get the tickets at the door but they sold out. The place was packed and Passion Pit put on an amazing show that I'll remember for quite some time. I would most definately go see them again even if it meant having to travel!

I wasn't a huge Passion Pit fan going in, but this show definitely did not change my opinion of them. They used an incredibly complex lighting rig- I'll admit it was impressive- but it came at the expense of any level of musical artistry. it probably took about 40 minutes or more to set up, and it was cool, but three songs in it crashed and the band decided to stop playing and leave the stage while someone tried to fix it. Absolutely ridiculous- the audience was given the clear impression that the band thought they needed fancy lighting systems in order to perform. The crowd seemed to be composed of really big fans who wouldn't have minded had they played a song without the lights while waiting for it to be fixed. After five minutes it was clear that nothing could be done and the band came back out. The only redeeming aspect of this concert was Mayer Hawthorne, the second opening act. My friend and I had never heard him before, but definitely walked out big fans, agreeing that he is probably our first or second favorite opening act ever, and we average about 10-15 concerts per year.

Amazing show!! Passion Pit is amazing live, they sound the same live if not better. Great energy too!! Although the venue was terrible the Bowery in NYC, very unorganized with coat check. But I would go back if it were the only chance I'd have in seeing Passion Pit live again, they were that good!

Went to this show with dannyoms, kevinan, stevesadin, violetang, lanield, Shaggy, Brandon and, Collin. We got to the venue at about 9pm. We missed the opener completely tonight which kinda sucked a bit (I was looking forward to hearing some Bee Gee's songs). The show started sooner than I thought it would. Tonight Passion Pit went on at about 10pm. I'm almost positive that they played the same set list as the show on Saturday (they only have one album Manners and one E.P. Chunk Of Change). The crowd tonight was crazy good (pumped, jumping, singing along and, dancing). This was the best Passion Pit show I've seen to date. We all left Terminal 5 and went to Corner Bistro for drinks and burgers. We could not stop talking about the show in the mist of all of our other random jokes and stories about childhood friends. A great show and great memories.

Went to this show with Steven, Jessie and Collin. We got to the venue a few songs into The Joy Formidable's set. They had the crowd pumped and jumping. Very good set great energy. I was hooked with "Whirring" and "Cradle". They finished their set and I immediately when and got their CD. Milled about for a bit till Passion Pit went on. Passion Pit went on about 11pm and the crowd went crazy!!! Very good opening song (can't remember) and their full set was good. I really enjoyed the back drop lighting and their stage energy. The ONLY negative from the show was the crowd. Seemed to be a lot of drunk collage kids and drunk Jets fans. Besides that we had a great time. Looking forward to tonight's show (1.10.10).

The new band is very tight and MA had his A game. It was an energized crowd that enjoyed a wonderfully varied Setlist that liberally sprinkled in songs from Kindred with older material.

The band was great, and Michael Angelakos sang beautifully. The problem for me was the sound. It was my first time at King's Theater, a really stunning and historical venue, so I don't know if the sound problems were the fault of the venue's or the band's, but it was all sub-bass and highs, very muddy in the middle. Great act, though, and well worth seeing!

Best concert ever. Passion Pit Matt an kim and Icona pop. The amount of crowd surfing at the concert was awesome and it's hands down the best concert I have ever been too, everyone I know who went to the concert would hands down go to the exact same concert again.

I wasn't sure what seeing Passion Pit was going to be like live and I was VERY pleasantly surprised! They sound spectacular live! Listening to them at home or in the car does not do them any justice. Especially the singer, he will hit those notes live. Is anything this show was fun, fun fun!

Neighborhood, Matt & Kim, and Two Door Cinema Club were great. I still can't stand Passion Pit though. Also the lack of sufficient quality food and beer throughout all areas of the event location was unforgivable. The organizers need to get it together, that was a despicable lack of planning.

The show was well organized with plenty of time to get from stage to stage to see all of the acts. All the acts started on time as well. A lot of the food trucks seems to close pretty early which was a little disappointing. The craft beer tent had a good selection of different beers but ran out of a lot of beers. I thought the pricing of the beer was reasonable as well. I was pretty disappointed with the autograph area. A lot of people were lining up early for some bands, while other bands were still signing. There should be a better way to organize that. It seems like people had to decide if they wanted to get autographs or see the show. Thanks.

Live Nation created a really nice traveling showcase of current, talented indie rock/pop acts for South and Central Florida...a good value with affordable ticket prices. I liked all the acts that I saw : Capital Cities, Surfer Blood, Fitz and the Tantrums, The Neighborhood, Matt & Kim, The Joy Formidable, Two Door Cinema Club, and Passion Pit. I had seen four of them before...FATT, M&K, TJM, and TDCC...and they were unquestionably the best of the lot. I've traveled to numerous big destination music festivals over the past decade, including several Coachellas and some Lollapaloozas and Austin City Limit Fests just to see these type of acts; and it was a pleasure to have something like this event within a 1.5-hour drive from home, albeit on a much smaller scale. In fact, the fun atmosphere and vibe of the attendees reminded me a bit of the early years of Coachella before it became extremely big and popular. Most of the people's first priority seemed to be enjoying the music rather than just partying or chatting with friends, which was refreshing. It was also nice to see a wide demographic range there from kids in their early teens to people in their 50's, including whole families! There was a quite a significant contingent of Gen-Xers in their 30's and 40's, like myself, who have always had an appreciation of the new and alternative music scene since they were kids and have never stopped...probably something that LN didn't originally anticipate. I liked how there was a little down time between the acts, which allowed you to move from the amphitheater main stage to the second stage in the rear. Also, the food trucks and variety of craft beers was an excellent touch. The only negatives were that the lines for the food trucks and specialty beers were way too long, their products in short supply, and the sound quality at the second stage was at times not up to snuff, especially during The Neighborhood's set. Hopefully, these things will be rectified if there are future Coastline Festivals. I really hope LN organizes it again next year around Veterans Day weekend with the same format and array of talent.

So much fun!!! Lots of great bands!!! Not enough food trucks. Waited in line for close to 2 hours for each individual food truck. The smaller stages sound was quite off. With those two minor glitches being fixed, next year should be awesome!!!

This concert event was absolutely awesome. The VIP tickets were worth the splurge as we had our own area to relax in between sets with clean bathrooms, our own bar, beer tastings and a food buffet. The lineup was KILLER and the venue was nice and clean as well. One downfall were the long lines for the food trucks. I would HIGHLY recommend this to others for next year.

Amazing crowd and vibe, the yummy food trucks and vendors with wares you don't normally see were a great change from the normal festival/concert, Cruzan is one of my favorite venues and the bands were performing like it was their last night on earth! Highlights for me were especially Fitz and the Tantrums, Matt and Kim and Passion Pit. All were shows you would punish yourself for missing. I would go every year! Thank you for a fabulous experience!

In my opinion Matt & Kim or Fitz and the Tantrums should have been our headliner they were so much more fun and into the crowd than Passion Pit. The other band that should have made its way to the main stage was The Joy Formidable a truly amazing fun band to watch.

The concert was great. Excellent mix of bands, well placed throughout the day. It was great to have the two stages, but allow for time to see all the bands if you want to (which we did). Favorite bands that day were Capital Cities, The Joy Formidable, and Matt & Kim. It would have been better if there were a few more food trucks, and if the Cruzan/Livenation group monitoring the seats were cordial... Needed a few more people monitoring tickets in the upper section. Great day, great time! Hope they do it again!!!

Had high hopes for this festival....but just didn't live up to it. There were only about 7 or 8 food trucks total....one on the Atlantic stage side (BC Tacos)...so lines were massive. Food prices were ludicrously high. And not a great selection. Was charged $5.50 for a bottle of water. Consider Gentlemen of the Road Stopover tour sold water for $1 and $2. Also, wasn't told there were two stages.....apparently it said this on a flyer...finally found it but it was more like a high school gym stage in a parking lot....should have stuck to one nice big stage. Between shows...if u didn't want to run to the other stage...there wasn't much to do....5 flea market booths..... Overall, it was a pretty lame festival....we only went to catch 2 Door, St Lucia and Passion Pit....next time, we will just buy concert tix and skip the festival!
