Jeff Daniels & The Ben Daniels Band was a great evening, and in a new venue for us. The repertoire was similar to other shows we ve heard at The Purple Rose Theater, but several new tunes and guest artists added to the enjoyable show. Very talented musicians, and great vocalists. A good way to lead into the 2017 holiday season.

This was a wonderful show, musically masterful, vocally sublime. Jeff Daniels is similar to Harry Chapin and James Taylor in that he is a story teller who adds real quality music to inhance the story in sometimes comical and in other emotionally moving ways. The Ben Daniels Band is solid, complete and not over shadowed by Jeff but enhanced. Excellent night.

loved the show. Very good variety. Rock band were very good musicians & Jeff's son seemed to have a nice voice, but everything was so loud it blurred into noise. Great choice of comedy, music etc. Especially loved the lady with the saxaphone & the harmonica player. I believe I have seen them before at a Madcat show.

Jeff Daniels does it well! He put together a variety of performances and between acts, he entertained the audience with his own songs that sometimes tell a story . . . and sometimes were just for fun. And fun it was!

Great show. Jeff Daniels surprised me with his musical talents of singing and telling stories. The Scottsville Clown Band kicked off the show and brought a lot of energy and excitement to the crowd. The other bands from MI were talented as well.

This was a spectacular night, start to finish, but the standout was The Red Sea Pedestrians, a high-energy world roots music band from Kalamazoo. Some Klezmer, some folk music, some contemporary sounds mixed in make this one of the most fun bands I've seen in a long, long time. I look forward to their show at the Arc January 12th! Jeff Daniels has to be one of the nicest celebs to come out of Michigan-and one with the most affection for his home state. All these Michigan acts were terrific. Bravo, Jeff. And thanks for a great night.

Generally excellent. Jeff Daniels segments were terrific, with an accent on Michigan life and humor. Other acts were also based in Michigan (Shout Sister Shout + Red Sea Pedestrians + Scottville Clown Band) and that was a nice mix of styles. However, the Ben Daniels Band (Ben is son of Jeff) were just very loud and nothing else. I probably will go again next year if there is a 5th Jeff Daniels and Friends.

Expected a "pleasant night out" and was surprisingly entertained and moved. Sincere thanks to Mr. Daniels for all he does for Michigan. I was hooting and hollering for Michigan Ave., Detroit, and all the other references to the "Michigan in me". Special yays for Paul Princen, Matt Watroba, and the Red Sea Pedestrians!

This show was an incredible experience, sort of a modern version of the Grand 'Ole Opry in its format with a much beloved star moderator using his influence to showcase other talented acts. Jeff said he wanted to make us smile, and from the start he did that. Having heard JD's Cd's and seing him on TV, we knew that he was a talented singer /songwriter & accomplished guitarist. What we were unprepared for was his incredible abilty to fingerstyle pick out rhythms,& melodies automatically, that extended for up to 10 minutes while he sang and told his stories that were funny and heart warming. While the supporting acts were all fantastic in their own right, it was Jeff that we went to see and his special messages to us Michiganders were heartfelt and personally recieved. We attended with two other couples who we socialize and play music with occasionally and it was a special time for us too.

I looked forward to seeing this show. Especially with great 3rd row seats. It would have been much better with more Jeff and less friends. Having seen and heard Jeff many times on Letterman and Bob & Tom radio shows, I know how clever, funny and talented he can be. That was not on full display at this show. One of the "Friends" acts was very good. (Shout Sister Shout) Especially the lead singer and the harmonica player. The big Clown Band was mildly entertaining. The totally lame insertion of his son Bens pseudo reggae rock band was as painful to watch as it was to listen to. As well as as his other son the roadie. I understand the pressure that must exist for him to include family, but it didn't work for me! I definately would not drop another $150.00 to see this again.

Jeff Daniels exhibited once again not only his breadth of talent but the rich warmth of a nice guy from Michigan. Watching him perform, I was brought to tears not only by his deep and meaningful support of our State of Michigan and our institutions and peoples, but watching the joy and pride he gets interacting with his children and the other performers (and the audience). And I am always brought to tears of joy, laughing at the same material he performs, with his ability to make it all seem new and like the "first time" I have ever heard it. We have seen Jeff in the movies, on Broadway, and in concert and he never fails to amaze.

Daniels opened his show commenting that his band didn't suck. What an understatement. A steal of a ticket price of $25, this was a good a show as you get for twice the price. Fighting off a cold or the flu, his voice was a little raspy, which actually added timbre to his blues-tinged songs. He wrote many of the tunes, which were topical and often humorous. The musicianship particularly surprised me. Daniels had total control of his guitar, focusing on fingerpicking. Daniels son assembled a solid band and held down the rhythm/second lead spot. The drummer, who also played mandolin and violin has superstar potential, even if he looks a lot like my youngest son. Another of our sons accompanied us (33) and enjoyed it as much as we did. Daniels is both a solid musician and singer, also he has the rare quality of also being a great entertainer. Despite his obvious illness, he never let the audience down and seemed to have as much, if not more, fun than the audience.

It was a terrific show even though it was obvious that Jeff Daniels had the flu. He was funny, engaging and all of the musicians were outstanding. What a surprise to find out he's such an accomplished song writer and guitar player. After seeing him on Broadway in "God of Carnage," this was a real contrast. Everyone in our party had a great time.

I expected a night of story telling and humor with a little music. The music took up about 75% of the time. His guitar playing was very good. I am a guitarist and was surprised at his competence. His signing was excellent also. Just the music was reason enough to come to see him. His story telling was interesting and nicely done. I really enjoyed it. His presentation was quite smooth and well thought out.

Some of our friends thought we were nuts that we bought tickets to go see Jeff Daniels. Even though we "love Newsroom" we are mainly conservatives. Daniels show was a standing ovation, and we highly recommend seeing it. His talents from playing the guitar, great stories, to fun and thought provoking lyrics in the songs, show his talents far beyond the hollywood cameras.

Loved this! Mr. Daniels came out on stage in jeans and a denim shirt and proceeded to sing, play guitar and tell stories...I had no idea he has such a great voice and can play guitar beautifully! I've always loved him in everything I've seen him in and he does not disappoint! I highly recommend this for a night out! He had the entire (and I mean entire) audience dancing at one point and singing at another. If you get a chance, go see him!

This was a fun concert, with funny stories and commentary by Jeff. He is an excellent guitar-picker and song-writer/singer. He comes through as a real person, not a Hollywood phony. His focus is on life stories in general -- not on acting or movies, etc. So, don't expect to hear any Hollywood gossip or news about upcoming movies, etc. Because he lives and hales from Michigan, the Michigan audiences will particularly relate to his performance, since he tells Michigan-centric stories. He plays a mixture of his own songs (folk/blues) and blues songs My only negative comment would be that I think the intermission should have been shorter, (It was supposed to be 15 minutes, but was more like 30 minutes.) and the performance after the intermission should have been longer.

Jeff Daniels is as entertaining, funny and creative as you could imagine. His songs portray moments in his life, like the Alan Parkway Lodge song, in a humorous and engaging manner. He creates a dialog with the audience that involves you by using such vivid detail that you can almost imagine the moment that created the inspiration for the song. And to go along with an awesome, creative songwriting style is a voice that can more than carry a note. I was a fan of Jeff Daniels because of his amanzing acting career and range of roles but I am now a super fan (the non-stocking type) that will look forward to the next time that my wife and I can spend a few hours listening, watching and laughing. PS. He sang a song about his wife being beautiful, You still got it goin' on, well during the show a tall attractive woman quietly settled into a lone seat and it was his wife Kathleen. She is indeed beautiful and though she did not make any indication who she was, it was even more fun seeing her reactions to her husbands act. After the show, my wife and I quietly approached her to thank her and her husband for such a great show and she was amazingly gracious and incredibly humble. Wonderful experience. Wonderful couple.

Jeff Daniels makes us even more proud to be Michiganians. We had never seen him perform like this before and he blew us away with his guitar playing, singing, and story telling. Even though we live in the Mt. Pleasant area where he has frequently performed, we drove through blizzard conditions over 150 miles both ways to see him in Kalamazoo's State Theatre. He definitely made the hazardous trip worthwhile. We would do that again for sure.

There wasn't much publicity about Jeff's appearance in Ft. Lauderdale this past Friday night. Only saw the advertisement on the Ticketmaster website a few days before his appearance. Like many others, I didn't realize that Jeff had talent beyond his many movie roles so I looked up the Tickemaster reviews and found that almost everyone gave him 4 stars. The tickets were only about $30 a piece so we decided to take a gamble. Its a shame that the lack of publicity only filled about two-thirds of the theater. It turned out that the gamble paid off big time. It turned into a fun night listening to Jeff spin tales and songs. He even got the audience involved in a few numbers and everyone left the theater with a smile on their face. He stayed pretty much on target with stories and songs posted by previous reviewers. All in all a very pleasant surprise.

From the beginning, Jeff demonstrates why it is that people are mesmerized by his stories and music. He engaged the small crowd with colorful memories of his marriage, his travels, and his film credits. And he amused us with stories of being on the road, both funny and in times so sincere with special memories. His guitar prowess was extraordinary, with deft movements through the ballads, and downright power in the blues.

My husband and I have long been fans of Jeff Daniels the actor. However, we were introduced to Daniels the musician, song writer and storyteller when he performed at the Carolina Theatre in Durham, NC. Oct. 27. Daniels was very engaging and interacted with the audience as he spun his hilarious tales of Hollywood and home, intermixed with catchy tunes about life as a celebrity - "The Dirty Harry Blues,' and "Are You as Excited About Me as I Am" - to teaching his daughter to drive, and taking the family on a road trip in "Recreational Vehicle." His songs are often humorous and sometimes poignant as they reveal aspects of life as Daniels sees it. What impressed us the most, however, (in addition to his persona as a regular guy) is his talent as a guitarist and vocalist. He is quite good, and can sing and play the blues with the best of them. I highly recommend taking the opportunity to catch Daniels' one-man show. It's top-notch entertainment that will make you feel good long after the evening has ended.

Jeff Daniels' show is not to be missed. He is an extremely talented musician, singer and songwriter - and a great showman! The audience was so entertained by his "stories told through song", on the edge of our seats throughout the show. His lyrics (and his music) are so original - touching, humorous, and universal. Songs are wickedly hilarious, then heart-stoppingly poignant. Found myself on the verge of tears, then laughing with him at the ridiculousness of some of his real-life situations, many that we have all experienced. This is a very personal show, and he shares himself, his life force, and his heart so very generously with those who are fortunate enough to be there. We have seen many singer-songwriter shows with quite a number of world-famous artists in the last several years, and his show is most definitely at the top of our list.

There are rare moments in life when an individual performer enters the stage, humbly engages the audience and the delivers a combination of heartfelt content, humor, and shares the stage with an eclectic set of "friends" - entertainers professional and amateur that provide that same experience. This was the character of this show - terrific, spirit lifting in an era of chaos and economic woe that engulfs us. After the show we were joyful, optimistic, and just plain feeling really good.

Actor, playwright, and sometimes musician, Jeff Daniels gave a great show last Saturday evening. His simple one man and a guitar style makes you feel like you are in his living room with several hundred other people, and you are just chatting and singing away. He gives you personal views into several amusing events in his life with this wife and three children, making you feel like old friends. He is proud to be from Michigan and says so in several of his songs. But the good feelings don't just stop with Jeff. This event is about inviting other musicians and performers from around our great state to show their stuff and wow the crowd with their distinct talents. From the outstanding harmonica and horn sounds and jazzy vocals of Shout Sister Shout; to the Klezmer sounds of Red Sea Pedestrians; to the poetry slam-jam of Community High graduate Paul (I'm sorry I forgot his last name). The instruments drowned out the vocals of Ben Daniels, the eldest of the children, so I can't say much about that set; Matt Watroba set me to tears with a one-song, special appearance with his "They used to play baseball here" tribute to Tiger Stadium. Beautiful.

It was great seeing Jeff and his son Ben playing together. The music was upbeat and fun. Jeff is not only a terrific actor but a songwriter and musician. I was disappointed there was not a larger crowd there, but it was a Thursday night in Cincinnati. The price for tickets were a deal and the advantage of a small crowd was a feeling of intimacy. Jeff Daniels is of the most entertaining and talented artist you will ever encounter. Funny, sensitive, creative, exceptional guitar player, local and cool. His songs, his son and the talent musicians he plays with, his approach to life apparent in all of them can be funny, or as sensitive as a tear. My only regret is I wish he played around town more often. But then his giant acting career might object :) If you get the chance don t miss a performance.

Seeing Jeff Daniels in person has been on my bucket list for some time, and his concert this past Sunday did not disappoint. In fact, how could it? He has so many rich experiences to share, and he does it with such a great sense of humor. Of course his songs were wonderful--he is truly a gifted musician and songwriter. His son's band was loaded with talent, and even though it was definitely a family affair, with his (new) daughter-in-law) as the lead female vocalist, it wasn't too schmaltzy. In fact, the Michigan audience loved every minute of it.

When that name is brought up, indeed many people think of the movie made with Jim Carrey. But, those who have followed Jeff's career know that his talents run much much deeper. Most of his movie roles have been comedy but if you recently caught "The Martian", his part was more dramatic as the NASA administrator. His musical ability is top notch, as a musician, singer, songwriter and all around great entertainer. He puts on a show that is nothing but original works and tells stories that are equally entertaining. His son Ben backs him with an equally talented group of musician and his new daughter-in-law sings back-up with a very sweet soprano. Any one that has not seem him in concert, needs to do themselves a favor and do that the next time he comes to your town. It is a great show, a good time, and you do not need earplugs even in the first few rows! Sadly though, this was the last stop, in his home state of Michigan and at the Kalamazoo State Theatre, so it may be a while before he does this again -- as for me, I can't wait for him to return.

Second time we've gone to the Jeff Daniels with the Ben Daniels Band & it never disappoints. Kalamazoo State Theatre is a great venue for any concert. Was a bit surprised that drinks, etc from concessions were allowed in the theatre during the concert. More than a bit distracting for audience & guessing performers. Overall great entertainment!!!

Jeff Daniels, on stage with the Ben Daniels Band, was an amazingly enjoyable musical evening. Daniels and his fellow musicians sang and entertained for 2 hours, non stop! It was obvious that all of the musicians were multi talented, long before the drummer stepped up from behind the drum set and began to effortlessly coax music out of his violin, turning into fiddle when the rest of the band joined in. Jeff Daniels is a multi faceted actor, and proved Monday night that he is a very talented song writer and entertainer as well! I purchased a CD of Jeff Daniels song and was pleased to find that all of the songs on the CD had been performed by him at the "concert" we had just enjoyed. All in all it was a very enjoyable evening and Jeff Daniels, and the Ben Daniels Band were well worth the ticket!

This band is really impressive. Very tight and very talented. Played all original music with the exception of one Allman Brothers song. Lead guitarist is amazing and Amanda's vocals are incredible. I will definitely buy their music on iTunes and will see them every chance I get.

By far one of the best live performances we've ever seen. 20th Century Theatre was a wonderful intimate setting. I laughed, I sang, I danced in my seat. Truly wonderful performers. The fun Jeff and Ben had as a father son duo was great. I would see Jeff, or Brn or the duo again anywhere anytime!

Wonderful concert with an amazing and talented group of musicians. Jeff Daniels is a multi-talented man to say the least. His music is fresh and original. The songs that he has written are unique. The concert experience was well worth the time and cost.

Jeff Daniels was great. He is very entertaining. We really enjoyed him. His sons band Ben Daniel's Band was good too. The drummer is amazing. Worth it just to go see him. Bass guitarist, awesome, the girl singer and the other guitarist were great too. Ben seemed a little out of place to us. It's not high end band but we really loved it. We also go to the Purple Rose in Chelsea which Jeff Daniels started. Would have liked to be able to take a few pictures!!!!

I had read all the reviews for Jeff Daniels before buying tickets for my husband and me and they were all right - he is not only a gifted actor but also an amazing musician - who performs even when he is obviously battling the flu! He and his son, Ben Daniels' band were very entertaining and had the crowd from the beginning. If you have a chance to see them perform, take it!

IT WAS A MOST MEMORABLE EVENING WTIH JEFF DANIELS AND THE BEN DANIELS BAND. JEFF HAS SO MUCH MUSICAL TALENT AND HE WROTE ALL HIS SONGS. AMAZING. HE INTERACTED WITH THE AUDIENCE BEFORE EACH SONG. IT WAS A WONDERFUL EVENING AND HE EVEN WAS SICK AND PERSERVERED. AND LASTLY IT WAS A TREAT TO TALK TO SOME OF THE BAND MEMBERS AFTER THE SHOW. THEY WERE JUST MINGLING AROUND IN THE BAR AREA.

That came from one of his lines and is OH SO TRUE! Haven't had this much fun at a concert in a long time! The man had the flu and still belted out the tunes. He is witty, clever, writes great lyrics and the music was so good! Ben and the other musicians were just incredible. We HIGHLY recommend this show and won't miss it if he comes back this way!

I had seen Jeff play on the finale of Newsroom and thought he was pretty good so decided to check it out. First of all, The Ben Daniels Band was really good. Great energetic talented and versatile musicians. Jeff was obviously sick with a bad cold or the flu, but it did not stop him. He was fully into the show, personable, infectious ( no pun intended), down-to-earth, easily bonding with the audience while telling tales of how events inspired him to write his songs. The lyrics were fun and engaging, and the music and production first rate. The final number was written by Jeff when his oldest child, Ben, was 3 years old. It's a beautiful and poignant song which is relatable to anyone who has parented and which shows that fame is not what drives Jeff Daniels; it is people, especially his family, and creativity. The audience was split between Newsroom fans and Dumb and Dumber fans, though this fan goes back to his Obie Award nominee performance 30 years ago in Lanford Wilson's "Lemon Sky." Jeff is a talented if sometimes under the radar performer and clearly, his son Ben and his band are as well. Go see! You will not be disappointed.
