amazing show. best opening band ive seen in a while with morning teleportation and primus lit the stage up as always. les claypool's stage presence is incredible and unmatchable. For my first flaming lips show i was amazed. the best intro/story line with wizard of oz put to dark side of the moon was incredible. they really did the classic album justice with their interpretation.

You don't need my review, you know if you want to go or not. But, I will say it was the biggest spectacle I have seen since Roger Waters' "The Wall." Pure greatness.

I loved the last hour and half that flaming lips played. but Primus played for over 2hr and every thing sounded the same after the first 15 min. also the stage wasn't lit very well for the Primus portion. It should have been billed as a Primus show. I probably wouldn't have gone if i know the lips were only going to play for such a short time but like i said every second they were on stage you didn't know what was going to happen except for the fact that it was going to be a great show. Primus it seamed like for 2 hr was the same or similar songs in mostly the dark stage. They did have a couple cool spacemen but even they weren't lit well.

Double whammy of Primus/Flaming Lips...and if that was not enough homages to an iconic band/album/movie. I do believe your sensory system could not want, nor handle more than it will receive at this show.

Wayne Coyne was our congenial and extremely likable MC. The "Somewhere Over The Dark Side of The Moon" theme was played with great humor. The star of the show was the psychedelic new screen graphics combined with the great renditions of songs from a true classic album. The musical performance was of the highest quality but it was a total package of music, theatrics, theme, lightshow and the magnetic Wayne Coyne. A-1 Bucketlist Concert.

What a great show! Primus was fantastic. the first time I've seen them live, and they are a MUST SEE in my book, incredible sound. The Flaming Lips are always great, but I was wondering how the crowd would react to them playing Dark Side of the Moon. The crowd was exuberant especially considering it was Wednesday night. Their mash-up of Dark Side and the Wizard of Oz was so fun and entertaining, I had no idea how fast it became near midnight! Another bonus was hearing the vocal superheroics of Lilly Allen during Breathe. Fantastic! I vow to never miss the Lips show!

This was one of the hottest and coolest shows I have seen in years. Primus is a head liner in and of themselves but to THEN have The flaming Lips come out and do their Dark Side Of The moon show just blew everyone away

The Flaming Lips are always entertaining and this performance of Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon was no exception. The beginning of the set was particularly strong and the show was energetic and enjoyable overall, though there were a few lackluster moments, such as their version of "Us and Them" which quite simply they don't have the vocal chops to cover such a minimalist rendition of. I came to this show for the Lips not knowing much about Primus who played first in this coheadline performance. I liked their material fairly well, particularly when the guitarist took opportunities to jam out. Overall, the pairing was a pleasant surprise.

I wish Primus would have closed. 90% of the people I spoke to were there to see Primus. The only reason I gave the show 4 stars instead of 5 is because Primus went first.

This was an awesome show. I definitely got my money's worth, and Red Rocks is a great venue. Primus and Flaming Lips put on a good show. I was surprised by the mob like behavior of the crowd. There was a weird tribalism going on. Like animals, the crowd attacked the people trying to carry the balloons up the stairs, ripping and tearing balloons from their net. On the other hand, maybe I just don't get out enough.

I have always been a fan of Primus and they did not disappoint. Having never seen Flaming Lips, I wasn't sure what to expect. All I can say is that I am a new and excited Flaming Lips fan! I LOVED their show. If I was in a rock band that's how I'd do it; great light show, puppets on stage, streamers, dude in space ball...the whole nine yards! Haven't seen an entertaining show like that in quite some time. CHEERS to the Flaming Lips!!!!

The band has a screen that was made special for them; no other band has it. The members came out of a door that unexpectedly appeared on it. The lead singer, Wayne Coyne, was absolutely hilarious and he even got into his "space bubble" and rolled around the crowd before the show. There were balloons (some filled with money), confetti, and lasers. If you've never been to one of their shows, then you have never experienced true happiness, joy, and excitement. It was so amazingly incredible, I teared up at one point. I HIGHLY recommend seeing them to anyone who gets the chance.

I bought the tickets due to the show being billed for Primus. We get there and Primus opened the show. Primus put on a great show including some new material. However when FL came out, disaster ensued. They tried to do some weird combination of Wizard of Oz and Dark Side of the Moon tribute - I've synchronized the movie and album, it is kinda cool. It was like trains colliding into one another. I'll admit the music was good, however Wanye butchered the lyrics with "his" interpretation of how they should be sung. After "Breathe" and "Time" they starting singing "Somewhere over the Rainbow". We left. What a dissapointment. I wanted to like the flaming lips rendition. I just couldnt because it was so bad.

Absolutely incredible show, one of my favorite ever. I've seen the Flaming Lips more than a dozen times, and they continue to blow me away! This was the best Flaming Lips performance at Red Rocks, hands down. The band was tight and focused, and their was a minimum of screwing around with toys and gimmicks between songs. Amazing, positive, downright blissful experience!

I could watch Les Claypool play his intense brand of bass for hours (maybe days) on end. He and Primus brought their A-game, as usual, and the crowd was loving it. I couldn't stop bouncing around to the music. The Primus show probably would have been enough for one evening, and adding the Flaming Lips to this made the night positively epic. Even though I wanted to hear more Lips songs, watching them cover "Dark Side of the Moon" was mesmerizing. Wayne Coyne and Co. put everything they had into that performance, as if they had originally written the songs and were performing them for the first time. The Pink Floyd music was broken up with snippets of songs from "The Wizard of Oz," which turned into a giant happy audience sing-a-long. When Flaming Lips finished DSOM, they obliged us with one Lips song: "Do You Realize??" It was magical. The audience was so amped up, and everyone sang along while lights were flashing and confetti was flying. It felt like New Year's Eve, but with none of the disappointment. I had built up my expectations for months prior to this show. Both bands exceeded and then obliterated my expectations. GREAT show.

The show was pretty good. The stage setup was awesome. As expected the Lips were very interactive. People seemed to like Primus but I am not a huge fan. Their set last longer than the Lips and I wish the opposite was true. The Lips also didn't start until 10:30 or so. I am sure a few years ago I wouldn't have cared, but it was late. Overall good show, just wished it wasn't on a Wednesday night.

I have been a Flaming Lips fan for years, but my first time to see them live was at redrocks. I have never heard dark side of the moon sound so good. They absolutely killed it. I have seen Pink Floyd (without Roger Waters) and Roger Waters solo concerts play portions of dark side of the moon, and in my opinion the Flaming Lips sounded way better. Also, the sound system blew me away. What a great concert.

Seeing the Flaming Lips perform Dark Side of the Moon is likely the most unique and amazing show I've ever seen. I feel very fortunate that I was able to attend. I've always felt that the Lips were a sort of "spiritual successor" to Pink Floyd, so it was very fulfilling to see their interpretation of one of the greatest rock albums of our time. Amazing visuals, fantastic sound & an overall memorable experience. Every rock show should aspire to be as great.

I have seen Primus too many times to count and I am sad to say this the first show I have been disappointed with. I think Primus played for a little over an hour, and the rest of night was a crappy version of Dark Side of the Moon by the Flaming Lips. I guess I kind of thought Primus was going to be the main event or help play some Floyd or something but the tickets did say Flaming Lips and Primus, not Primus and the Flaming Lips.

As a northeast kid it is hard to imagine a place like Red Rocks. Just the beauty of the mountain would make the trip worth it just to go for a nice hike. The mere fact that two of my favorite bands currently touring were playing here, on the same night of all things was just icing on the cake. But what made it even more special was that the icing on the cake was coated in gold as the Flaming Lips were performing the all time classic album for all generations, Pink Floyd's Darkside of the Moon. I couldn't imagine a scenario more incredible for any music fan. Primus began just before sun down and immediately had the crowd rocking with the always pleasing To Defy the Laws of Tradition. Immediately the sea of people underneath me were up and bopping around. Claypool's bass sounds incredible in any venue but at Red Rocks every note was crystal clear. You could feel the bass vibrating the drink in your hand! Les rocked the crowd and wowed us even more with the new light set up and luckily for us we were the first to witness it! Primus filled the two hour set with guitar solo's, popping snare drums and monkey masks like only a Claypool driven set could achieve. After the madness it was time for the Flaming Lips to perform Darkside. I had seen this before at Bonnaroo in 2010 but I had a feeling that this show would easily top that, and it did. Wayne Coyne has an energy and aura about him that I have never seen in a lead singer before. He laid down the law and let us know what was about to happen and even state that this could be the greatest show that we would ever witness! After the stage gave birth to the band, Wayne came out in his signature space bubble and proceeded to be rolled up about 40 rows into the middle of the crowd, at which time he stood up gave us the rock on fist pump and then was rolled back down to the stage. At this same time Steven began singing Over the Rainbow from the Wizard of Oz, a treat that I had not anticipated. Using that theme the Lips went immediately into Breathe and the show was on! The Lips also stuck more to Pink Floyd's version of the album rather than their own version they had released. However, never in a million years did I think I would be chanting, Oh We Oh, Yo Ho! (the wicked witch's soldiers chant from Oz) with thousand of other die hard fans. After an unforgettable Darkside they came out for one more song and absolutely killed it with a crowd pleasing and always emotional rendition of Do You Realize. It was the perfect way to end a perfect night. For all lucky enough to visit Red Rocks, do not take it for granted and I hope to make it out there again soon.

Primus was fantastic, but their set was too short. Why the Flaming Lips headlined is beyond me. They were mediocre at best. Their interpretation of Dark Side was way over the top, and the theatrics and A/V antics did not cover their limited range and amateurish talent. Morning Teleportation was just awful.

The only reason I didn't give this event 5 stars is because I had to bail on Flaming Lips and their rendition of Dark Side with bits of Wizard of Oz infused into it. I thought it was interesting until the second track and then the intro to "Time", which was originally one of the greatest moments in recorded music history reduced to the sound of a klaxon blaring senselessly for 30 seconds; after that I had to bail folks, sorry. Despite that experience I still would like to see Flaming Lips doing their own material someday. Primus, what can I say? A good Primus show will leave me feeling uplifted and will haunt me and continue to wash over me for days afterward, as was the case on Aug. 3rd. Everyone in Primus that evening was firing on all cylinders and individual solos were brilliant; I can't wait for the new stuff to come out as that sounds excellent as well. If you do see Primus try to see them at Red Rocks since the sound and atmosphere generally are unparalleled anywhere else.

I live in northern Ogden, and Primus is one of my all time favorites, seeing that they were going to be playing at Red Rocks along with another of my favorite bands ( all be it not one of my top faves but I still rock to the Lips ) and not only that, but the lips were doing their own version of Dark Side of the Moon a legendary album in its own right? I was compelled to go regardless of expense or rhyme or reason. And I was not disappointed, in fact I was blown away. I went for the Primus show with a cherry on top, well the cherry turned out to be the red pill and I fell down the rabbit hole and my mind was raped by music....in a good way. Primus was fantastic, dont get me wrong, they rock six ways from sunday and then some, new material, old classics, some of my favorite songs were done. But The Flaming Lips stole the show, Wayne Coyne's giant bubble, the band being presented walking through the white light, the added delight of the extra wizard of oz combination, the hott dorothy girls, "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" - and " If I Only Had a Brain" --Whats Not to Love? The answer : absolutely nothing. It rocked my world and left me with an ear to ear smile the rest of the night. I have new respect for the Lips Thank you Primus and The Flaming Lips for doing such passionate work, and making this young mans fantasies a reality. I'll never forget my trip to Red Rocks

While the Lips paid homage to the Dark Side well, they were long on theatrics and short on musicianship. Clearly this isn't their music so the focus is on their theatrical side, which doesn't show their skill as musicians like it should. Primus on the other hand was clearly the headliner as the music goes. Funky hot rhythms and great fun lyrics delivered with plenty of energy through the long set. More time on stage with way more musical energy, Primus should be takin' home the bacon on this tour!

The Flaming Lips are so good and their concerts are so much fun that to cover Dark Side of the Moon was actually a disservice. Dark Side is a great album, but far too mellow for this band. Primus once again brings the weird dark funk and sets the stage for the Lips' characteristically wild rendering of Floyd's masterpiece. Primus had a great set-lots of fun, good songs and show. I was really excited to see the Flaming Lips for the first time but was sorely disappointed. Too much tied to Oz even for a Dark Side show. Along with several tech pauses between songs and too many, too merry sing-a-long Oz songs; the mood dropped off in a hurry. Lastly, and most dissapointing, the security staff (2 blonde bozos in particular) take their "authority" way too serious and to the point that the beauty and awe of such an amazing venue and musical opportunities is overcast by the negative interactions.
