The Kruger Brothers, consisting of Jens (banjo) and Uwe Kruger (guitar), and Joel Landsberg (bass), is an acoustical group that plays folk, Americana, bluegrass, venturing into jazz influences. They are virtuosos. They brought me to tears twice during the performance - the "Wild Horses" segment of Appalachian Concerto, and "Beautiful Nothing," a song that is as much about the silence between the notes, and the notes you hear.... They are entertainers, and storytellers that seem so happy to play and be where they are in life. The good karma translates into a wonderful night.

I bought this concert for my husband for a Christmas present. I' not a fan of Bluegrass music so I had gotten my mind frame set to just be able to tolerate the evening. Much to my surprise I fell in love with The Kruger Brothers. This specific tour is a little different because of the quartet addition. The first half is all instrumental and so fine you aren't going to believe it. The talent of these guys was beyond my expectations. I recommended this concert to a friend on face book that lives in Chicago and they did see them. They were blown away! Don't miss the chance to see these guys!

The Aopalachian Concerto is a terrific piece of work, but I would have liked at least some Doc Watson material also. In short more balance.

Two hours of non-stop music that represents, crosses over and mixes up Americana, bluegrass, and classical music. If anyone would have told me that worked, I would not have believed it. It is skilled, true, from the heart, and absolutely brilliant. Do not miss these guys.

The Kruger Brothers, accompanied by a string quartet, on the Appalachian Concerto was truly world class. A near-sold-out audience came to their feet in vigorous applause numerous times. The Appalachian Concerto, composed by Jens Kruger featuring his special skills on the 5-string banjo, with his guitarist brother Euve and bassist Joel Lansburg, creates a sensitive musical picture of the mountains around their adopted home, North Wilkesboro, NC. The Kruger Brothers came to North Wilkesboro from Switzerland. Because of the quality of their playing and their love of folk and bluegrass music, they became close friends with Doc Watson. When composing the Appalachian Concerto, Jens wove their love of folk music into a sophisticated classical composition which was enhanced by a very fine string quartet. The Kruger Brothers have become much-loved, contributing members of their adopted community, and in their program, they express their appreciation for living in the melting-pot community of the Southern appalachians.

This is the second time we have heard these these folks in the last 6 months .( first in Asheville) It sounds odd but my wife says that this music is what she would want to hear if she was ever really sick in bed. She spent much of the concert with her eyes closed , smiling, just soaking it in.. If you come to hear these folks based on a Merlefest experience, you may be disappointed. If you come with an open mind wanting to hear really wonderful music you will walk out smiling.

I have not been to the Ark in almost 20 years. I had never seen the Kruger Brothers live before either. Both were excellent and my wife and I thoroughly enjoyed the show.
