Growing up I watch the original Wizard of Oz even when they change it and had Michael Jackson play as the scarecrow I was always intrigued by the performances. Never did I see it in a play, so I decided to take my son and we both experience the theater. To my surprise my son and I was surprised of the outcome. It was amazing as something both of us got to experience together.I WOULD definitely go again and encourage others to go see. The only flip side to it is I was hoping that they had CDs of some sort to purchase but they had none.

We took our 3 year old granddaughter and 5 year old grandson. They were enthralled from beginning to end. The dancing, singing and special effects worked together beautifully. Nothing beats a live performance with great talent!! Toto should win an acting award!

I brought my wife and daughters to the play. With the flying monkeys and witches, along with the special effects and great acting and singing, beautiful set peices, I don't think I could have spent my money any better. It was an unforgettable experience for my family.

Saw this play at Walnut Street Theater, Phila. PA this past Friday night with my 3 granddaughters ages from 6 to 16. The play, score, scenery were excellent. Special effects were excellent as well. The lion was two of my girls favorite, however Toto the dog captured the youngest heart. It is a go see play for all ages. Amazing what Walnut Street can accomplish with the stage size..

Surprisingly, with all the versions and repetition of the story the Wizard of Oz, this was a very well done and executed production. I especially was impressed by the fact that there were some added lyrics and arrangements to the songs and music that put a small twist on the expectation of the 'same old thing'. Dorothy was played very well and that actress can for sure dance, sing, and do it all. The actor playing the lion was very funny and added his own little attitudes to the part instead of vibrating his voice and trying to copy the movie actor completely. Special shout outs go the actor playing the scarecrow. Obviously the scarecrow is almost as key a role in the story as Dorothy and Toto are, and I quite expected that no one in the world could do as well as Ray Bolger did in the film. However....this actor was fabulous. Not only did he totally and quickly disperse of the yearning to see Ray Bolger up there, but he flawlessly played the part and even his reactions on stage to other players talking and singing and doing their thing, was wonderful. All in all a great job, very entertaining, the kids were adorable and talented, and Toto was a champ!

Through childhood, the highlight of spring was sitting down with my parents and brother\u2014popcorn in hand\u2014to watch the Wizard of Oz on television. Yes, before the age of VHS, CD, or blue ray where you had one chance and one chance only to experience Dorothy's magical journey. This viewing was spectacular, well-performed, witty, joyful, tearful, and scary. All of the elements necessary to entertain everyone. The stage sets were well thought out; the singing delightful, and the cast melded well together. Seeing Toto being played by an actual trained dog was a treat. The Walnut Street is a small venue. We were center stage 11 rows back from the orchestra. I can honestly say, however, that there was not a bad seat in the house. No obstructions whatsoever. If you are looking for a wonderful way to spend the evening with your significant other, family, or friends, take the chance on this delightful presentation. You won't regret it!

Fabulous production. A wonderful mix of old and new - the storyline as you remember from your youth with a few added songs to make it fresh. All the acting was first rate, except the wicked witch/Ms. Gulch. Great for young (but not too young) and those young at heart. The only down side was in one scene when they had lights moving around, the lights were shining directly into our section's eyes.

This was a treat for my granddaughter to share with her two grand-moms and we all enjoyed the show. The special effects were great, the characters were wonderful, especially the cowardly lion and the music was spot on. Toto is adorable too. Must remember to get tickets when they are first offered. The seats were still good, but could have had closer to the stage if I acted faster.

This was fantastic adaptation of the 1939 movie into a stellar stage musical. Principal voices superb all around especially Dorothy -- beautiful job. That girl can sing. Both witches also very effective, Scarecrow, Tin Man, & especially Lion all had great moments and the munchkins were a pitch perfect children's ensemble. Special effects also excellent, especially the tornado in act 1. Colorful costumes added a lot as did very effective sound and lighting. Some chunks of dialogue were lifted right from the 1939Judy Garland film and it brought back so many childhood memories, not just for me but other audience members too So if you're a grown adult or a carefree kid-- go see this superior show. You won't be disappointed. Great job,Walnut Street-- one of your all time best!!

Never been to the Walnut, so was interested to see it. Wizard of Oz is a family favorite and we watch it everytime it's on the television. Wanted a new experience with my daughter, as she has now has an affection for live theatre. Thought The Wizard of Oz was a great production for us. Setting was extremely intiimate but comfortable and everything was right in front of us. Lighting was great and the cast was awesome. Made you feel like you were right on stage with them. Would highly recommend seeing a production in this venue if you haven't been there before. Looking forward to our next trip into town!

This show was beautifully done! It had a little bit of everything - all the classic songs and scenes we know from the famous movie, awesome scenes that had been cut from the movie like "Jitterbug", and some twists on other well known parts. All of the actors were amazing - the Lion was absolutely hysterical, and the scarecrow was the best we have ever seen! This was the perfect show for kids and adults of all ages!

My wife and I took our daughter (who's loved the Wizard of Oz ever since she was a little girl) and grandson to see the show last week. Had a wonderful lunch beforehand at Moriarty's and then went to the Walnut Street Theater. We were worried because we were about 45 minutes early but the theater was already letting people in. The lobby is just covered with photos of past performers---many of them iconic. It was fun to read all about them and the shows that they performed in, sometimes over a hundred years ago. The Wizard of Oz did not disappoint. The music was nostalgic (who could ever not love Dorthy singing Over the Rainbow) and the performances by everyone simply wonderful. This was not the first time that we've gone to the Walnut's Christmas show and it won't be the last.

Front row seats off to the side. Way over priced for view. I am use to getting front row seats and these were not worth the money. Paid 175.00 per ticket plus fees. People sitting next to me paid 90.00 There was a woman holding a child on her lap and talking to another child thru the whole performance. There was not an empty seat for kid on mothers lap...not sure if they got in for free or snuck in to front section. Play was ok
