Buddy: The Buddy Holly Story was the best musical theatre I've seen in 50 years - and I've seen it all! You've heard of triple threats on stage? Well, this ensemble were quadruple threats because they could act, sing, dance AND play their own instruments - all brilliantly! Great drama, as the writing was so very good, too!

We enjoyed the flash back to the day the Music Died . The performance was right on. The sound quality was excellent. There may have been one part that was historically incorrect.. In the opening seen it had the date 1958 on one of the bill boards. Peggy Sue, Oh Boy and That will be the Day came out in 1957 The productions at the Walnut Street Theater are ALWAYS great. The lighting and acoustics always spot on. It would be nice if we could go back to those "days of innocence".

"The Buddy Holly Story" was outstanding. My wife and I see shows in NYC twice a year, and this show was as good as anything in the theater district in Manhattan. I compare it in quality to "The Jersey Boys" and "The Million Dollar Quartet" in NYC

I saw this at the Walnut Theater on Sunday and I LOVED it! Great story and of course, great music! I've never been a part of an audience that was so enthusiastic (dancing in the aisles, jumping to their feet, sustained clapping after the curtain closed)! The entire cast was outstanding; Christopher Sutton entranced me with his portrayal of Buddy. Will another cast's production stand up to this one? Can't wait to find out!!

Attended on Saturday 7/21 and show was due to close next day. Lots of great merchandise at low prices because of that. My friend got a hat marked down to a $1 that was previously $12. I was introduced to Holly's music by my late brother and the actor who played Buddy was spot on. The supporting actors were fantastic. The crowd was on their feet by the end of the show which included an encore. It was neat because the woman who played his wife actually WAS his wife in real life. I was able to save some money on the seating due a special WST offer as well. Always a great time at the Walnut.

Started a little slow but caught fire when they played the Apollo. The second Act was great. Enjoyed the show a lot. The women that sang the solo and then played the violin at the end was a fantastic talent. Her stage presence, energy, etc. was unbelievable and she played 'big' to the entire house. Her smile lit up the place. Might want to disguise the members that play more than one part, a little, so it is not so obvious that it takes away from the flow of the play. Overall, they all did a great job and had me tapping my feet all night.

the lead actor puts his heart and soul into his performance as do many of the others. I particularly liked the female MC from the Apollo Theater and her companions - they had star power and the actor/singer who played Ricky Valance I love the music even though it was before my time ad it is a poignant story like that of so many other singers who lost their lives too young. The lead had the right vulnerability to play the role - slightly nerdy, sensitive and hyper

Although I love the music, it was too loud for me. I had to wear earplugs during the whole performance. It was great to see the actors/ musicians on stage- easier to appreciate their talents up close. The acting tended towards the hammy side- perhaps for comic effect? Sometimes it worked, sometimes not.

Buddy Holly at Walnut is an amazing experience. We were fortunate enough to be in the center seats of the first row and at times it felt like Buddy was still alive. The singing, music and acting by the cast was exceptional. The actors playing Buddy and Maria Elena are in life a married couple and their passion for one another and their art shone through. The whole cast was great but special mention of the Ritchie Valens portrayal.

I have seen plays and musicals for years. One of my all time favorites was "The Lion King" at the Academy of Music, but "The Buddy Holly Story" ranks right there for music, energy, set designs, and just great musicians and singers. I was exhausted at the end from clapping, singing, stomping, and cheering. I would see it over and over again. What memories, what a great show. Bravo, bravo, bravo!!! An amazing performance by the entire cast had my wife and I on the edge of our seats ready to get up and dance. The songs brought back memories of our early teenage years and we sang along to most of them. The actors did a great job in re-creating the Buddy Holly sound. I found it to be fun & entertaining while capturing historical points of his life. If you love the classic Rock & Roll sound of Buddy Holly, you MUST go see the Buddy Holly Story at WST. The guy playing Holly is amazing and sounds spot-on like him. "Buddy" was a lot of fun -- a professional production with a great cast. Very energetic and upbeat. Although similar to The Jersey Boys format -- biographical, but with lots of the artist's music interspersed -- it worked well. The audience was encouraged to clap and sing along to the point that our enthusiasm was a bit forced at points, but in the end we were on our feet in a display of genuine appreciation.

I am a big Buddy Holly fan (thanks Dad, xo!) and this was one of the most fun, memorable experiences I've ever had...and I've seen allot of shows :-) The cast was amazing and so fun and energetic and the music was incredible. Not only did Christopher Sutton look just like Buddy...he sang like him uncanny as well!!! It was allot of fun that they added the Big Bopper and Richie Valenz roles on stage to the story as well, for the full effect of such a great career and era of music history and sweet person's lives ending so tragically yet the play has you singing along and laughing, remembering Buddy and the others in a happy nostalgic way in the end :-) HIGHLY recommend this show for any Buddy Holly fan :-)

The buddy holly story was very good. I loved the second act but I think the first act was slow and wasn't the best. It was funny but I wasn't in love with it. I would reccomend this performance but I wouldn't say it was the best I have ever seen. I also think there were too many songs especially at the end. All my grandparents and I were thinking was when is it going to end. We all think it was 15 minutes too long. So in conclusion the Buddy Holly Story was good but not the best.
