Sunday was a better day than Saturday - enjoyed more of the side acts and was blown away by the music quality and ability to get up close to Los Lonely Boys and Buddy Guy. Was able to get as close as I wanted to be for both Kid Rock and Bob Seger without much hassle - we had VIP field seats.
The acts I wanted to see most was on the first day (Saturday) Parachute, Civil Twilight, Gavin DeGraw, OAR, Iron & Wine, The Raconteurs, and aboveall The Killers!! I thought this venue had a great line-up of acts to choose from, definitely something for everyone! I ended up not getting to see Gavin DeGraw because my friend really wanted to see Avett Brothers, and I was able to be exposed to diffrent kinds of music groups that I was not familiar with (Kid Cudi and The Pixies). Some of the shows we didn't get to see in it's entirety because we wanted to get to the next act's stage so we could get a good standing spot. Overall, I thought the music festival had a laid-back atmosphere. At some of the stages, people put their blankets on the lawn and laid down to relax, sit back and enjoy the show. The weather was pefect by the way, blue skies, not too hot and not too cold. I loved that there were Camel Back stations throughout the park (free water), which I found very complimetentary, especially when beer was $8 and soda was over-priced. The food was also priced high, but that's to be expected at events like this. Another thing that could have been better was clearere identification of stage names. My friend and I walked by the "Authentic Stage" 2 or 3 diferent times at the beginning of the day because we thought it was a different stage. We asked some of the staff and they didn't seem to be sure either of the stage names :/
The lineup was upside down. The Pixies should have headlined. Then the Raconteurs. The Killers should have opened. Seeing Kim Deal, Frank Black, Jack White and Brendan Benson on the same stage was almost too much to take in!
OMG...cant say enough!!! Drive by Truckers, Buddy Guy(jhysterically talented), KID ROCK (incredible), killers ...I could go on and on. Logistically organized easy access and FREE BEER for VIP. Wish I was still there:(
I was thrilled to be able to have full access to pretty much anything with the VIP tickets which were well worth the money. Area was clean and well organized and the stage sets looked and sounds fantastic. Killers were great along with Racenteurs and Avett brothers!
Great shows, well put together. Not as well attended as I would have thought but it was the first time ever for this event so I'm sure it will grow. It did allow us to get really close to every band we wanted to see even the big names. Weather was perfect! I went to both Jazz fest and Lolla this year and it was very hot for both. Orlando in November? High of 75 and about 65 by the end of the night was gorgeous. I really hope this continues because all five of us who went will come back and we will bring Freinds.
OAR, The Roots, Avett Brothers and the Killers were all AMAZING!!! The event was ran really well. The weather was beautiful. I would definitely go back next year!
i am not sure if it's a marketing issue or maybe orlando is just kind of dry, but the crowds at this were pretty lame. all the major acts i saw were pretty great and the crowds didn't really get rowdy or anything. i also think they should have done a much better job of marketing this, as no one i spoke to had a clue about the event and more people would definitely have gone a long way.
Orlando Calling's first year at the Citrus Bowl in Orlando was good. There is room for improvement, however. They certainly need to expand the ART HOUSE tent into bigger quarters, as well as doing a better job staggering the line ups. There should never be more than ONE stage silent at one time. Also they might consider dividing up the stages by genres. This way you're not having acts from the same genre overlapping as much. Finally, don't put all the headliners on during the same time slots. Do a better job breaking them up. I know some acts push for top billing, but it's not the best thing for the concert goers, who after all pay the bills. The VIP was well worth it, as you had unlimited beer, wine, and specialty drinks. I'll definitely be back next year to support Orlando Calling and watch it grow.
I enjoyed having the opportunity to see The Killers pre-show and The Roots before seeing The Killers again the day of the show! The Roots were simply amazing and I am now looking for their next performance!
Loved the show-went the 1st day only; Had seats in stands-wish we could have gone onto the field, but was able to view all acts; We were told to sit anywhere-so didn't really get to sit in our assigned seats; Need to supply maps or better directions to find stages-but once we oriented ourselves to the layout-we were fine! PIXIES WERE AWESOME! RACONTEURS WERE GREAT! THE ROOTS ROCKED!-hard time seeing both Raconteurs and Roots! Parking was an issue-had trouble locating our car in a very bad neighborhood after the show. PLEASE PLEASE HAVE SHOW NEXT YEAR!
Great lineup, but the single-day tickets were overpriced. I have a feeling that's why the crowd for The Killers was so small. Too bad. Hate to think that may have affected the quality of the show and the likelihood of people (and bands) returning next year.
Lineup was amazing, venue was awesome and it was well organized. The crowd was great and getting to and from the venue was easy. I will definitely go next year!
On Saturday and Sunday I attended my first ever music festival in Orlando, Florida. I worked at home on Friday and finished up around 3:30 PM so I could make the drive over. The Killers were headlining the Saturday night show at the main stage, but they decided to do a private show at The Beacham in downtown Orlando on Friday evening. Earlier in the week the promoters sent an e-mail to folks who had already purchased Orlando Calling tickets asking that if they wanted to see the private show. To enter the drawing for the free tickets, you had to e-mail the promoters back with the names of the people who would be going. On a whim I entered my name and my friend Julie s name. On Wednesday I received an e-mail back stating that I had won and that we could pick up our tickets Friday evening at the venue box office. The Beacham is a smaller venue holding around a thousand people. The show wasn t going to start until around 9:00 PM, but Julie and I were there at 7:00 PM to ensure that we would get our tickets as entry was first come first serve. When we got there, we only saw around 200 people waiting, but by the time the show started, it was a full house. The concert was great, and The Killers put on a hell of a show. They played a full set and we didn t leave The Beacham until around 11:00 PM. Afterwards, Julie dropped me off at my hotel and I went straight to bed. Saturday morning I woke up, showered, and went down stairs for some breakfast. The gates for Orlando Calling didn t open until around 11:00 AM so I wasn t in any rush to get there. The bands that I wanted to see didn t start until later in the day anyway, so after breakfast I went back to sleep for a few hours. Waking the second time, I headed to the venue and easily made my way to the Citrus Bowl where the festival was being held. I got lost a few times trying to find my seat, but once I did I saw that I had an excellent view of the main stage. Kid Cudi was playing when I arrived, and I listed to the tail end of his set. After Kid Cudi, The Avett Brothers performed and had an amazing set that I would sit through over and over again. They were followed by The Pixies who were just too loud for me. I left midway through their set and scavenged for some food. When I returned, The Pixies were finishing their set. Up next was The Raconteurs who I was excited to see because of Jack White s involvement, but they weren t as good as I was hoping they would be. After a few songs, everything just blended together and I really couldn t tell where one song stopped and another began. I left in the middle of their set as well just so I could walk around and find something to drink. When I came back, they had already finished their set and the stage was being prepped for The Killers. It was starting to get pretty cold, so I told myself that I would leave around 10:30 PM so I could beat the rush back to the buses that would take me to the Amyway Center, and my parked car. However, midway through their set, fireworks started to go off and that made me want to stick around to see what they would have as a finale. Near the end of their set they played All These Things That I Have Done and there was a massive fireworks show behind the stage that went along with the crescendo of the song. Additionally, there were huge canisters near the front of the stage that covered the crowd in confetti, smoke, and colored light. It was an amazing moment that I ll never forget. After The Killers finished, I left with the crowd only to discover that the way that I had entered the venue earlier in the day was now closed off, and I had to go a different route. This change caused me to get lost in a bad neighborhood in the middle of the night. The event staff at the exits acted confused when I asked them about the busses and one of them told me to go into a direction that I knew to be incorrect (because I had already walked in that direction). After getting a little testy with the event staff, one of them finally got on his portable radio and started asking for help. He got an answer, told me the correct way to go, and I finally found the buses. I made it to my car and went back to the hotel to catch some much needed sleep. Sunday morning started like Saturday morning had. I got up early and went downstairs for breakfast, coming back up to get some more sleep. When I woke the second time, I made it to the venue with much more confidence than I had the previous day. I purchased a little lanyard at the gate that looked like a back stage pass. It had laminated cards with the festival schedule, bios of the bands playing, and a map of the venue. The Monster Energy booth nearby was giving away free energy drinks so I grabbed a Lo-Carb and headed up to my seat. I got there to see The Doobie Brothers take the stage, and I sat through their entire set. After that I walked over to The Authentic Stage to see Buddy Guy perform. I ve got to tell you, out of all the performers I ve ever seen, that man had the best stage presence. He really knows how to connect with his audience. Plus, for someone who is 75 years old, he absolutely kills on the guitar. After listening to most of Buddy Guy s set, i scavenged for food and walked around some more taking in the whole experience. I made it back to my seat as Blake Shelton was finishing his set and got ready to see Kid Rock perform. Right on schedule, Kid Rock opens with Devil Without a Cause completely rocking the joint. It was cool to see a couple of 70 something grandmothers a few rows down from me dancing to it. That s probably my favorite part of a concert; seeing other folks having a good time. Kid Rock performed an amazing set and left me completely satisfied with his performance. However, the next performance was one I d been waiting on my entire life. There are three musical artists that I ve been listening to ever since I can remember; Roy Orbison, Hank Williams Jr., and Bob Seger. Well tonight, I was finally going to get to see one of them. My folks have seen Bob Seger several times throughout their lives, but I had yet to see him even once. He started his set with Roll Me Away , one of my favorite songs of his. For the next hour he pumped out hit after hit and had the audience rocking. Two encores that man did\u2026 TWO, and he s 67 years old. I m so happy to have been able to see him. So, so happy. Once it was over, I just stood in the asile taking it all in. After a few minutes, the section I was in had emptied and so I headed to the busses so I could go back to my hotel room.
Pros: Setup wit h the location of stages was good. I thought the sets were on time (close) Wasn't crowded (both plus and minus) Sound on the three outer stages was good. Food was at least fair. Cons: Unorganized- could not get same answer from two people Had issues with VIP passes, could not get rectified. Sound in main stage was not good.
The good. The event couldn't have taken place on a better Day/night (I only went on one of the two days, Sunday) The weather was great and so much to take in! There was something like five stages, four of which had no seating. The musical acts were diverse and totally awesome (Bob Seger\u2026you freaking Rock dude) and the sound system was VERY good. Not overpowering. We were there for the main acts so our attention was on the main stage which was located inside the Citrus Bowl. The Bad: This was our first event at this venue and now see WHY most other concerts and main events are held elsewhere. This place had the absolute worst seating I have ever had the displeasure of occupying. If it weren t for the lackluster attendance (had plenty of room to spread out) I don t think I could have taken the seats that had no padding or, worse yet, no backs? Stadium/Bleacher seats backs were not allowed. (huh?) I was upstairs on the mezzanine level and, believe it or not, could not even buy a beer for me or a coke for my wife upstairs. I had to go downstairs!! LOL. Bottom line. If they have another event here, despite the acts that may appeal to us, we won t go. I don t think the price justifies the total lack of comfort needed for a long day.
I would have to say of all the concerts I have been to this is in the top 3 It will be hard to get any better next year but I will definately be there!!!!!!!!!!
I had an excellent time. The venue was great, the workers were nice and helpful, and the music was incredible! I will definitely be watching the lineup for this even next year! Thanks!
What a great event and it should have been a roaring success, however there wasn't enough advance publicity. The publicity blitz was not timed properly. We found out about Orlando Calling on the 6pm television news broadcast. Fortunately for us, we didn't have plans for that weekend and were able to go. We are so glad we went and enjoyed every minute of the event.
Great concert overall!! I saw Bob Seger, The Doobie Brothers, Buddy Guy, Kid Rock, Los Lonely Boys, and Blake Shelton! I loved the concerts a lot and had a great time! The only problem was the cost of beverages was to high as well as the cost of parking was to high as well. Besides that I loved all the performances, the music was GREAT!!!!
killers concert was fantastic. VIP facilities were poor and away and too isolated from the field. it didn't make sense to buy Vip general admission tickets.
We had a great time at Orlando Calling on Sunday, Nov 13th. I felt the event was well organized, secure and worth the price. I think they could have done a better job advertising. I hope they do hold this event next year.
Oh my gosh how completely cool that you played the whole alblum in order! Then did a HUGE encore! Amazing! Thanks Great bands the whole weekend, clean, well organized event, can't wait 'till next year!
Everything about this event was fantastic. All of the groups who played were fantastic. The venue was nice. The crowd was great. Definitely introduced us to some new groups. Highly recommend to anyone that you catch The Killers in concert. They put on an unbelievable show!
Other than knowing I would hear some GREAT music I wasn't sure what else to expect from such a HUGE event. I went on Sunday with some friends and found a well organized, well run, fun, unforgettable experience. ALWAYS a band on stage somewhere and that was a wonderful way to experience a band I may not have paid attention to before. I loved that the event ran like clock work...each band came on stage pretty much when they were scheduled to...no excessive waiting around. The only thing wrong with that was once a performer came on stage I wished they could play longer....Plenty of choices for food and drink...and booths for doing some shopping too! Music for all tastes.... Thanks for coming to Orlando....next time I won't come with "some friends".....I'll be coming with LOTS of friends.
I went with 5 friends. We all had an absolutely amazing time. Every single band that we saw, did an awesome performance! We saw, The Ettes, Iron and Wine, Gogol Bordello, The Pixies, Raconteurs, Avett Bros, and The Killers. The crowd was a very fun crowd. Such a great event! Next year, we are all going for both days and trying to get more people to come with us. - Great variety of vendors and foods, too! YUM!
We traveled from Tampa for the show. Went on Sunday because we like Kid Rock , Bob Seger, The Doobie Brothers And Blake Sheldon. We thought the show was great, not a lot of time spent between sets for the which artist, which was fantastic. Hopefully, the show will come back next year.
Very good overall. I'm quite happy that for a first-time event, they were able to score big names like The Raconteurs , The Pixies, and The Roots. Though, it would have been nice to be able to see both The Raconteurs and The Roots, like I initially planned when I purchased my ticket in September. The night before, I saw the schedule changed to have both groups on the same time. For next year, I would recommend having more than one show during the last time slot. Not everyone wants to see The Killers just to get their money's worth. I certainly didn't, so I left before they came on. Everything else was great. Clean facilities, tolerable crowds. The neighborhood was a straight ghetto, though. It would be nice for people to go hang out around the town afterwards without fear of being mugged.
This was the best lineup, organized and enjoyable festival this town has ever seen. Please come back next year! worth every penny of my hard earned dollars.
The event was not so crowded that you couldn't enjoy yourself. There was enough space to lay out a blanket and relax. People cleaned up the area between each show. The bathrooms weren't too bad. The food options, however left much to be desired. Food trucks would have been cool.
What a pleasant surprise. We went mainly for O.A.R. but found a great Saturday line-up of familiar and new bands. The site venue was great for a festival like this, and we found it difficult to believe it was the first of it's kind there. Look forward to next year.
Yhe event was fantastic, well coordinated, and my only hope is that is wasnt the last Orlabdo Calling. Getting to see my favorite acts and hear new amazing music, things don't get much better. Without a doubt Racinteurs rocked the hardest and Jack White is undisputed badass with holy performance of Blue Veins. Avett Brothers were a pleasant surprise with contagious energy and backwoods vigor. Definitely haven't seen a dancing cellist before! And who can deny The Killers who put on an incredible show everytime. The private showing at The Beacham on Friday night make them an instant fan favorite. Thank you for bringing such an experience to Orlando and hopefully we can continue to deserve the honor for years to come.
The first day was phenomenal! We didn't attend the second day as it was bands we don't like too much, but we really enjoyed Gogol Bordello, The Ettes, Less Than Jake, The Pixies, and a host of others that played!
It was a nice mix of music, nice crowd, stage names and numbers a little confusing but we had help of friendly workers to help. It was a very memorable time. Thank you !!!Look forward to next year!!!
THIS WAS A FIVE STAR EVENT, AWESOME MUSIC, EXTREMELY WELL ORGANIZED, AMAZING VENUE. I HOPE THAT ORLANO CALLING WILL RETURN NEXT YEAR. IT WAS AN AMAZING EXPERIENCE.
I have been a Bob Seger fan forever and was so excited to have the opportunity to see him again. That was the draw for me initially. We enjoyed having choices throughout the two days and even became fans of some music we don't frequently listen to. Los Lonely Boys; Renee and The Translators and Chris Isaac were great. Many of the bands were amazing including The Killers on Friday night. I was disappointed with the stadium. I think because there was so much going on, the stadium didn't nearly fill up for top names. By the time Bob Seger and the Silver Bullet Band hit the stage it was 9:30 on a Sunday night and the stadium was about 1/3rd filled. I know that BS was sick as he didn't quite have the energy as he has in the past.
We went on Saturday, specifically to see The Killers. The Killers were great, but a very small crowd. I believe the $100 one day fee is way too much and kept people away. We tried to upgrade for the next day and kept being sent to the wrong locations, nobody who worked there had a clue or cared. We eventually decided to forget about the next day as it was way to much of a hassle. I'm sure this happened to other people because we talked to them. one guy actually told us to go outside the fence to go to the ticketing windows, but that we couldn't get back in. We told him that was ridiculous, and he said "that's just the way is, I don't make the rules." We couldn't find one person to take our $300, great customer service! If your going to do Orlando Calling again, make a reasonable two day pass, like they have at Sunfest. This will fill up the venue and make it more lucrative for the vendors.
It was a fun day. The music was good. The food was good. There was just one problem. A lot of people don't like the strong taste of Heineken. There was only one stand selling anything other than Heineken and the lines were really long and they kept running out of beer! Bring more Anheiser Busch products!
1st Annual and can't imagine this can't blow up to be the go-to music event in Florida in the years to come. Music was great, event was well organized and the venue was set up to easily handle twice the crowd that made the inagural trip. Been there, got the shirt, and will be back.
The most awesome event I have ever attended. (and I have attended many) So many great musical artists. My only disappointment was I couldn't see everyone of them! From the local talent to Bob Seger, they were all good. And, there was a great mix of music. Jazz, blues, hard rock, country, classic rock, modern rock, even bluegrass it was all good. I hated for it to end. The weather was outstanding. A good variety of food and drink vendors. I was impressed by the staff who kepted everything orderly and very clean. The venue was big enough to handle everything without feeling crowded. I hope I can do it again. Nothing can compare to this.
I would definately go again. So many great bands in one place! I have to say my favorite was Blake Shelton. Wished he would have played another song or two! Kid Rock was also amazing, loved the huge screen behind the band! He honored our American Hero's with a huge flag backdrop and an awesome song! I really enjoyed the Doobie Brothers, I was dancing the whole time. Bob Seger can still rock, however, he is really showing his age.
A day like any other day is not how to discribe this day! We strolled from one area to the next, drinking free Monster drinks, getting our Absolut Picture taken and I even tryied that skol snus stuff (tasted like spearmint gum). We checked out a couple bands playing on the outside stages but wound up 3 feet from the main stage dead center on my Pride Mobility Scooter. Man, Those Dobie Brothers sure brought back some memories! And I must say this Blake Shelton dude was funny and really good! I didn't know I liked Country music! Kid Rock, What can I say! He IS everything he sings about! So All I can say about him is that Only God Knows Why he is a Cocky Cowboy! However, BOB SEGER, Stole the show! I am 48 you know! The music from him that I've listened to all my life had my heart racing and wishing I was back to my teenage years! I never gave a thought to him actually playing my favorite song by him, but he did! Sun Spot Baby made the playlist! That was enought for me right there! I finally got to Bob Seger Live! On Stage! My girlfriend and I were having the time of our lives! Now we have new memories tha we can share with our friends and ourselves for the rest of our lives! We'll definetly be back for Orlando Calling 2012! Thanks for letting me share my thought with you!
We went to Sunday only because of other committments. We go to a lot of concerts, themed cruises, and to other Music Fests, including the Hullabalou Fest in Louisville, KY last year. I have seen what works and what doesn't. I also have my own opinion of why some fail and others do not. The Orlando Calling Fest was done very well!! Lots of restrooms, folks to help you find your way, and concessions, etc. The line-up was fine, some new bands and some old favorites. We have been going to concerts & shows for a long time, and I honestly saw no one perform that I had seen before, which is supposed to be the purpose for this type of show, isn't it? Next year, maybe the economy may be different and folks will have a little more discretionary finds to spend, my opinion on why the croud was so small.
Good bands overall, good shows - from about 4:00 pm on Sunday, the only day we went. Saw Seger (good), Doobies (good), Isaak (very good), Yoakum (good) & a few others. Kid Rock was not so good.
There should definitely be a Orlando Calling 2012. And the Avett Brothers should come back. Headlining as a matter of fact with a full set. They put on the best live show I have ever seen before. This was my 3rd time seeing them and they get better everytime
The festival was amazing, but I fly from DC to Orlando just to see The Raconteurs and The killers, which is my fav. band! it was unbelievable! I'm amazed! such an amazing presentation
I enjoyed the Orlando Calling Event, however some of the stages could have had something differently set up with their speaker systems. One stage flowed into another. And there could have been a few more bar areas open to the general audience.
I was at the festival on the first day. I stayed at the main stage throughout the day as I waited for The Killers to take the stage when they closed out the night. Little did I know how much I would enjoy the rest of the acts that preceeded The Killers. I missed The Ettes set, but Gogol Bordello were an atomic bomb on stage. Powerful, eclectic punk sounds and attitude that got the crowd fired up on that warm day. To mix things up, Kid Cudi took the stage next. His set was energetic and full of dancy beats that one can groove to. It was unexpectedly amazing. To continue with the suprising line-up, The Avett Brothers took the stage. Their folky, guitar sound was shockingly danceable. The vocals and energy they put into their set was infectious and soon the whole crowd was dancing along. Next up were the indie rock pioneers, The Pixies. They wowed the crowd as they played the whole of "Doolittle" in track order. They easily competed with any of the other, younger bands on stage that day. Truly unforgettable performance. Now, this is where I hit a snag. The Raconteurs' set was boring and too long. It didn't seem to fit with the rest of the acts that day.The energy and good time vibe just wasn't there for me. But all of that didn't matter much as the crowd buzzed with excitement knowing that The Killers were about to take the stage. Walking on with an epic sounding soundtrack, the four wandering souls from Las Vegas started the crowd dancing by kicking their set off with 'Spaceman'. The energy continued to build throughout their whole set as they ripped through hit after hit. By the time 'All These Things That I've Done' came around, the crowd was in a complete state of euphoria as cannons of never-ending confetti showered ove the whole crowd. They left the stage and the audience had yet to fully recover when they came back on for a heart pounding encore that ended with the anthemic "When You Were Young". Sparks were literally flying as The Killers closed out an unquestionably blissful night.
We could only afford to go one day so we chose Sunday - Legendary JC's, Thomas Wynn and the Believers abd Blake Shelton ALL IN ONE PLACE?! Yes, please!! There were so many vendors with fantastic wares to sell, the staff was friendly, and the music was everything I had hoped for and more! This will absolutely be a yearly event for us!
We sure a glad to have seen that this concert would take place as we were on vacation in Florida. You betcha, it was excellent. Dwight & co, Kid Rock, Bob Seger, Chris Isaak, and all the rest (at least those on Sunday). We hope that this event will continue and we'll have to take a vacation to Orlando once a year- OUCH, hurt me- lol
The Raconteurs killed it! Other bands were surprisingly good especially those not featured on the main stage. The pixies were probably my second favorite. The food and "official" merch was way WAY over priced but I guess that is to be expected. $12 for a sandwich.
Really enjoyed the day. Kid Rock and Bob Seger were great. Enjoyed all of the music at each venue. Highly suggest they consider moving the days to a FRIDAY/SATURDAY combined event - really too late for a Sunday night. Had a great day of entertainment!
I thought the show was amazing, was only there on Sat but so many acts 2 c, Sat line up was awesome from the beginning 2 the end nothing but great acts. I actually was surprised that there was not a bigger turn out, but for me I worked out great was right in the front 4 any show I wanted. Hope it returns next year would definately go again, my only suggestion would b drop ticketmaster
It was a new event. They have some kinks to work out, but all in all, it was a decent line up and an interesting use of the grounds. Curious to see what they come up with next year.
Overall event was great, recommend changing VIP offer next year into two options. One that provides the VIP tents and alcohol benefit and one that provides for guaranteed hassle free up front seating. I value hassle free seating more than the free alcohol.
What a wonderful festival -- I was surprised that attendance wasn't higher. I LOVE Buddy Guy, Los Lonely Boys were incredible, and the Doobies and Seger are still rockin' ! My only complaint was that Kid Rock was WAY too loud - even with my special ear plugs, he gave me a headache with the bass drum line - there's gonna be a lotta deaf people in 25 years or so!!
I thought the entertainers were terrific , however the overall set up sucked! selling only one kind of beer. the bathrooms were a disgrace. the times were to close together, so if you wanted to see someone you had to miss half of who you were already watching! Blues traveelrs didnt show!!
The show was very well put together. I went Saturday and loves Pete Yorn... Last minutes to the schedule were not reflected in the application... it should had been so I could had seen Pete Yorn at 2:00 and then been able to see Gavin De Graw at 5:00 Pm... This would help for next year. There was too much time between The Roots/Raccounteurs and the Killers.... 45 minutes...
Let's start with the disappointment: having three key sponsors with limited beverage offerings. This limitation was not explained in detail prior to purchasing the VIP package. Also, the food choices were limited (and not very healthy choices). And lastly, having to purchase a costly lanyard to have a map of the venue, as well as $35 t-shirts, were an additional disappointment to say the least. Now for the greatness: the two-day music line-up was diverse as well as most enjoyable! There was a show for every music lover .... including us! Although we were saddened that "The Blues Travelers" did not make the event as scheduled, we truly enjoyed the other performers.
Reserved parking was great - very easy access getting in. The sets were VERY short. Robert Randolph Family Band let me down big time - they didn't play any of their hit songs. Charging $10 for the map/schedule was outrageous!!!! Leaving at 6:30 on Sunday, even though we had reserved parking up close we were forced to walk around the longest way possible to get back to our car, That really pissed me off.
This was the most organized and well prepared venue i have ever been too , period. there was very easy acess from plenty of parking, lots of restrooms and porta potties and beer and food vendors everywhere, yu wanted for nothing . Heres to hoping they are able to do this event every year as it was well worth every penny and loved every minute of it . !!! Thanks Orlando Calling !!
We had an absolutely incredible time and stayed the entire 12 hours!!! It was obviously well planned and took a great amount of effort. I could see where some cost cutting ideas could help for next year such as putting a stage at either end of the stadium and have one event play at one side while the other side sets up, etc, eliminating the outside stages. There were so many bands that you couldn't be in five places at once. We were there to see the bands, party some, buy from the vendors so you could eliminate some of the extra lounges, pool tables, ping pong tables, etc. The wow factor was great, the weather was better than expected, the people that attended were so upbeat and happy yo be there, the workers were all very helpful, even the police went out of their way to tell everyone to enjoy themselves...I hope the decision is made to do this again next year! We'll help promote it!
I will be looking for the line up for next year! We had field tickets and it was a great choice. We were a bit surprised that when we saw friends that had seats they couldn't join us on the field. It didn't ruin our good time however.I enjoyed the fact that there were other option than beer. Maybe some better option for food would be nice. The authentic stage got some interference from the stage beside it. I really didn't like that. It only was noticeable when Dwight was on. All in all I enjoyed the experience and would love to do it again. The bands were very nice choices. I had wanted to see Bob Seger, Kid Rock, and Both of the country boys! We were talking on the way home who you might get next year! We heard bands we hadn't and enjoyed them and plan to download some new music. Liked the schedule list with times and stages.
Thoroughly enjoyed the event. Well organized, bands were exceptional. Blake Shelton, Doobie Brothers were great. Loved seeing Buddy Guy, a true legend. Never had heard Warren Hayes before and am now a fan. Kid Rock was unbelievable, what a show! Wish I could have seen everyone, I know there were more incredible performances! Would have liked to see more vendors. All and all it was an amazing day, well worth the ticket price!
I felt safe most importantly.. From the very beginning the parking directions were well staffed... The way the flooring in the Citrus bowl with the grand stage was 1st class.... The drinks line was usually short, and well staffed... I give the promoter a "jukos" to the professionism and quality i fully expected for the amount i paid... I got my moneys worth and MORE... See you again next year..
The venue was awesome and very well organized. Hope next year they have several band from the 70's/80's, Seger would be awesome again :-) Needed more liquor and Budweiser booths.
Terrific music all the way around, evidently targeting the "over 30's" on this day. Standouts to me were The Doobie Brothers (tight as ever, even after all these years) and Chris Isaak - but Buddy Guy plain stole the show! Unfortunately I couldn't stay 'till the end of the evening, so I missed Bob Seger & The Silver Bullet Band. I'm sure Mr. Seger wouldn't disappoint, but he certainly had some tough acts to follow! Speaking of which, I'll look forward to what the event organizers have in store for next year!...
This was, by far, the best concert I've ever been to, and I've been to many, many concerts in my 58 years!!!!!!!!! It was absolutely fabulous. Orlando Calling really knows how to put on a show!!
YES! ,no shortage of music ,brought back lots of memories...thats a concert the way i remember! lets do it again...we will be there!...... bob seger ROCKS!!!!
When I heard about the Orlando Calling festival and that it was being put on by a promoter with lots of experience with festivals in Europe, I asked myself how we in Orlando could have possibly gotten so lucky. I still haven't answered that question, but after attending the fest, I'm thrilled Orlando was selected as the location. It was superb! Great, eclectic mix of artists, particularly on saturday, a roomy, clean, secure location, excellent facilities, lots to eat and drink, excellent security, well-organized transportation to and from parking...everything was spot on. I'm totally impressed with how well everything went off, especially since it was the first time for the event. If you didn't make it, you missed out. I'm really hoping the fest will be back next year. I'll sure be there and I'm going to recommend it to all my friends.
I totally dug the concert. I loved how there were numerous stages jamming music at the same time. The place was clean and controlled. Plenty of room for all to dance and enjoy... I was totally amazed by all the acts I saw that day... The only two suggestions was that they had Heineken as the main beer sponsor. Only one bar served Bud / Bud Light which the majority seemed to like and caused that line to be a lil longer...Also, the venue should have had much better advertising. For the money they spent to have such an amazing gig, plenty more people could have filled the venue, but advertising locally was poor....... Glad I caught wind and got tickets, I would totally go again, twice a year!!
Those who missed this event missed one of the best Florida concerts in quite a whlie. Orlando Calling was a great value and was very well organized. An amazing amount of top acts in one place on one weekend. Hope that it returns in 2012. Don't miss it next time.
Concept was great and long overdue for Central Fl. Good and diverse musicians. Some line ups were a bit weird. Not enough choices of drinks or healthy food. Disabled parking was a nightmare. You had to walk almost a mile to get in. By opening one gate that could have been such a difference. I had a really hard time with this and felt ill. No one knew what was going on. Everyone had a different answer about anything. I was pleased that for a stadium festival, it was actually quite nice. The tent for Los Lonely Boys was way too small. Would go again but only if disabled parking was set up better. Many
Sunday at OC was very good. Great variety. I've been to many fests and this was like none I've seen. You'd think you were at Disney World. Clean, almost spotless. Friendly staff... every where. Let's hope they can do it again!
