Polica
Polica debuted in 2012 with their wonderfully haunting album Give You The Ghost, which was an instant synthpop success. Their drum and bass sounds have earned them international acclaim in the time since, and the band has been touring with popular acts, such as The xx. Coming up on the heels of their second album Shulamith, their recent tour features the band’s signature electrifying mix of R&B and goth pop. In contradiction to their sometimes quiet and ethereal albums, their live shows offer a jolt of power and beauty that lights up the stage.

The band came out and plowed through a killer set that had an undeniable energy not typically felt on the recorded material. The songs were tight and the vocals were absolutely amazing! Great to be so close at an intimate venue like this and see the gymnastics they go through trying to get all the additional parts of the music just right. Wouldn't see that at Bonaroo! Channy said it was her favorite stop of the tour and I believe it since I also traveled to Pittsburgh to see them several days later. At the Basement show, the crowd was extremely vocal which added fuel to the Polica fire!! The entire band was gracious enough to mingle after their set and take pics and sign merch. Very cool. Very, very cool folks. They earned a fan for life that night and I had never seen them before!

I've seen Polica before, but at a much smaller venue. They definitely improved the clarity and sound quality of their performance and lead singer, Channy, is mesmerizing on stage. It's clear that she loves what she does. The double drummers are a great touch, and definitely add a full bodied and complex sound to the music. My one gripe was that they repeated a song. For real, if you don't have enough material....just end the show. There's no need to prolong it just because you can or think you should. I think they're a band worth seeing though, especially because I think they have the potential of becoming very popular in the future so tickets won't be getting any cheaper nor the venues smaller. Also, I have to give a shout out to the opener Gardens & Villa. Those Cali boys can jam, and that flute rocks too. I recommend seeing them for sure, they're awesome.

Really an enjoyable evening! The first act, Mothxr, was very smooth and sounded great. And Polica performed just as I had hoped - awesome! Only thing was that I felt the sound at the venue was not as good as I had expected.

Channy Leaneagh is as transfixing as the band's trip-hop-inspired beats and rhythms. She has total command of her voice, embodying sensuality, vulnerability, assurance, and dreaminess. The dual drumming of Ben Ivascu and Drew Christopherson is taught, propulsive, and astonishingly syncopated. The creeping baselines give a needed depth of melody, which acts as a welcome counterpoint to Leaneagh's hazy, mellifluous vocals. A masterful performance by a band at the vanguard of alternative music who seem to be getting better and better.

This is one of those must see bands. I go to 2-4 concerts per month. Very few bands can bring a performance like Polica'

let me start off by saying that this was my first experience with this band and I was super excited about it but the singers lackluster, disinterested performance left me wanting. So maybe that's just her on stage persona? I don't want to make too much fun, because maybe she got tragic news right before the concert and just barely was able to make it on stage! barring that being the case, she performed as if she was doing all of us a favor, blazing through the songs with little crowd interaction in between and no facial expression beyond the words coming out of her mouth could create. once again, maybe that's what her fans like, but her performance was only saved by how awesomely the band played. I won't even go into the. Houston idiots in the crowd that think its ok to talk during a concert...next time I'll save my 20 bucks

Polica played an amazing show in Columbus at The Basement! I always worry with some bands playing live and how things will sound....but they killed it! Great stage presence, energy, and set list. I recommend seeing this band whenever you can!!

Major complaints of mine in going to shows these days are that too many acts that have plenty of material charge a high price, make you wait for hours, and then only play for an hour. Those acts should go to a Polica concert to see how it's done. With only 2 albums under their belt, and for only $20, Polica came out on time so that the crowd was still warmed-up from the opening band, and played a groovin' set that ran for over an hour. The excellent base player/backing vocalist kept the grooves movin', groovin', and rockin' as many of the tunes like, "Leading To Death," exploded behind the power of the 2 drummers. What makes Polica a good gig is that the band really gets into and enjoys their music. The unfortunately small but enthusiastic audience fed off of the bands' energy making the show a dance party. Channy's vocals were spot on, and her effortless dancing was infectious and fun to watch and move to.

The venue had some issues and opened late which was very annoying. But the bands were fantastic. High energy show with a great sound.

Despite Channy saying this was one of her "worst performances ever" the show was flawless! Channy had great stage presence and Chris killed it on the base. The drummers were amazing as usual. I love this band so much and can't wait to see them live again - I only hope they don't become too big as I'd like to keep them my little secret.

The opening band was pretty awesome. They were much more hardcore than Polica, some would say a straight out punk rock band, not sure what their name is. Polica came and delivered a pretty awesome and mellow set, seeing two drummers in one band is always great, an is quite rare. The lead singer gave a great show and had great stage presence even in her own shy and reserved way. In the end the show delivered all you would expect if you were a fan or have listened to their music. It's not the type of show that will have the crowd forming a mosh pit but it did stay up tempo and had high energy moments

The band came out looking like they were there to do a job and go home. Energy level was extremely low but there show was going alright. Then the singer started complaining about her sound and how she "is having the worst show of her life"... I was a bit surprised to hear that because they sounded totally fine. She just keep complaining, apologizing after every other song and eventually said told the crowd something that literally ruined my night. She said to everyone "have a nice life" this is all out of context and I wish you could hear the whole speech and the tone of her voice she used. But she really made me feel like I need to go and f my self, it was the tone of the voice you would use on your ex significant other once you've had enough of their issues. I know her actions are just hers and the rest of the band was fine. But I paid money for a performance not a depression session. Needless to say, I don't think I'll go to their show again, it wasn't worth the money and unprofessionalism.

Polica are absolutely breathtaking. As a live act, it's two drummers, a bassist, and Channy singing. Really tight connection between all of them, it's amazing to hear them recreate the songs from the albums with such passion. Amongster was my favorite from the set, but the encore as a whole was the best part. Beautiful music.

Amazing show! I had never been to the Paradice before and it was a great little venue. Very clean, perfect view of the stage, an the sound quality was very good. My girlfriend was the one that wanted to see Polica and boy was she pumped afterwards! She even got to meet the lead singer after the show and get her autograph! Great overall experience!

polica had a great stage presence & i know she has an incredible voice, but unfortunately, the venue's sound system was poor. the venue need to re-evaluate its sound system & make adjustments if they want to continue to have musicians play live music there.

I was only at the concert for Polica. They sounded amazing, despite a not so great house sound system. The singer was very polite, if a little aloof.

Polica was absolutely amazing. Channey is not only stunning, but she sings with a combination of shear highs, smokey lows and with lots of passion reminiscent of Sinead, only sexier. Thankfully They didn't use as much auto tune live, but she played it like an instrument at times which was really cool. Standing 15 feet from her the entire show was really cool, and one of the many reasons I love small venues like Webster hall. I wish them all the luck in the world!

I'll brag to my friends and tell my kids about the time I saw Poliça in a packed small venue on the LES. I've turned a ton of friends on to them and EVERYONE has thanked me. They are amazing. Go! I have a feeling it will be harder to get tickets in the future. Much harder. Certainly more expensive.
