Nice venue, very intimate. Seats were great. I don't think there's a bad seat in the house.

Although the MLS level of play may not be comparable to the very top leagues in the world the level of play and the competitive balance are quite good. The midsummer weather in Vancouver was perfect and the atmosphere fantastic. I would recommend a whitecaps home game to any football fan visiting Vancouver.

Your game experience will be much more pleasurable if you remember that Empire Field is only a temporary stadium until a renovated BC Place opens in October. Empire Field is situated next to a horse track and a small amusement park. The bathrooms are porta poties and the concession stands are few and far between but the atmosphere is worth the price of admission. The fans are extremely knowledgable and passionate. When the fans start stomping on the aluminum bleacher flooring it sounds like a freight train passing through if you are standing outside the stadium. Hopefully the fans won't have to endure several mediocre seasons like the Toronto fans have. Also, the view of the mountains beyond the stadium is spectacular if not surreal. I enjoyed my experience at the Whitecaps game despite a 4-0 whitewash by the Galay. Hopefully the team will be able to put the ball in the net in their new digs in October. I also hope the atmosphere remains the same in BC Place.

We came for California just for this. Seeing the FA Cup was a nice bonus. The atmosphere was good though the field is a bit far from downtown.

Pitch was a disaster but still saw some quality action and quality goals. Based on 45 minutes of evidence Shaun Wright Phillips should be pretty impressive this season.

Enjoyed the pre-game pagentry. Game announcements were too skimpy...for example, when yellow and red cards were issued there was no Announcement to the crowd about who the cards were issued to. Very little vending in the stands...except plenty of beer.

The Whitecaps game vs. Philadelphia Union was a five star event. A rambunctious crowd topping 20,000, a long awaited victory on home turf, the nostalgic view of the PNE roller coaster behind the grandstand -- just a lot of things that combined to make it worthwhile.

Empire Field boasts very nice environment for soccer. Ambience was great, powered by an enthusiastic crowd. Too bad it was a goal-less game; it was eventful otherwise

At the Empire Field venue in Vancouver you are subjected to LOUD and ANNOYING TV commercials during halftime. This is really lame, as we all PAID to be there - we should not be subjected to TV commercials. The audio system was WAY TOO LOUD. It was very unpleasant. Otherwise, this temporary venue is okay - not great - but not too bad. Our seats were very close to the south entrance, in section 223, which made for easy access.

Whitecaps put out an entertaining product. Wes Knight was Man of Match! Too few porta potties and a lot of beer going down so, obviously, a big bottleneck at halftime. New stadium should help!

We are major MLS fans and this was our first visit to the Whitecaps. The fans didn't really arrive until the game started so the initial atmosphere was quiet and calm. Eventually the stadium filled in and it started to get noisy. Were a little unhappy that the only time we could stand was during corner kicks or fast breaks. By that time our son didn't have the time to stand up and missed most of the action. Also, it got tiresome standing, sitting, standing, sitting. Why don't they allow fans to stand the whole game? This isn't baseball? Just a couple sections over the supporters section was standing the whole time and we wished we were in that section. We also wondered who the mascot was? He looked like the Toronto Blue Jay but he did get the crowd going when it got quiet. As usual, the game was fast paced and exciting. All the supporters around us were super into the game and rowdy but polite (considering we had our child with us.) Super fun

I've beent to both home games so far & let me tell you as good as the results have been the best thing about it is the crowd. The 20,000+ fans are louder here than at Canucks or Lions games & the atmosphere is 10 times better! I hope it's even better when the Whitecaps move to new BC Place in Sept.

Our son is soccer-mad, and when a weekend trip from Seattle (Go Sounders!) to Vancouver, B.C, was on the calendar, I immediately check to see if the Whitecaps were in town. Much to my happiness, they were in town, which kept our consecutive vacations-attendance at sporting matches intact. Empire Field is at the P.N.E. site, about a 20 minute drive from downtown Vancouver. You can take the 135 bus to the match, which would save you 20 dollars on parking. Empire Field seats around 20,000, and was a great place to see a match. This is a temporary location until B.C. Place gets its retractable roof. Sporting Kansas City went up 3-0, and the fans, fortified by $7 beers, got on the home side. The Whitecaps came back to tie the match with two goals in stoppage time, which was quite exciting. We had a great time at the match. We will travel to Vancouver to see the Sounders dominate the Whitecaps in the future!

Had a great time at the Whitecaps game. Sat in the family section and bought family packs which included food (a $10 value per person). Seats were a little uncomfortable but the game, which the Caps won, was exciting and great fun for kids and adults alike. The stadium has beautiful views of the mountains so even if the game isn't great, the vistas are stunning. All around great evening.

The Vancouver Whitecaps gave a great performance on Saturday night. They played well both offensively and defensively. They put on a great show, with lots of fun stuff that makes the event very family friendly. Included in the event is a special section for the kids to do various activities before the game and during the intermission, the volunteers are amazing and the activities are well organized. However, I was extremely unhappy with the new team covered seats which made our view of the game from the 3rd row very limited. It is apparent that they made some attempt to keep the players warm and dry, however the new covered seating greatly impedes the view of the game regardless that they are clear to view through. It is one of those "great ideas, poorly implemented" initiatives. Not really sure what you can do with the grandstands the way they are, however, selling tickets in those seats for the price you pay, you are not getting a clear view of the game. I gave this event 3 stars because of the limited ability to watch the game, however, if not for the new covered team seating this event would have managed a 5 star rating from me. Next time we will sit higher - we will miss the mascot, but will enjoy the game!

Great venue to watch a soccer game. Very entertaining and crowd was great. Whitecaps played very well and deserved a better result. The tying goal was the result of an obvious hand ball but no call given by a referee who was a rookie and it showed in his erratic calls made on both sides. The Portland red card was very harsh so maybe the nocall was a bit of make up. All around a very entertaining game. Good lively crowd with large number of Portland fans on hand. Sorry the roof was closed.

It was convenient that I happened to be on vacation so I decided at the last minute to book a trip to Vancouver just to see this event. It was well worth it and I would do it again in a heartbeat! I had the best view from my seat and my only regret is not bringing my professional camera with the mega zoom lens to get those awesome shots. I was so jealous of the photographers!

BC Place was a great venue and we were treated to a great game. I'm embarrased to say the food was much better for a veggie at BC Place then at our normal Century Link. We watched warm-ups munching on our well-decked out veggie dogs, chips and pop (that came with the lids). We had great seats across from the supporters section. 6th row -- missed shots came right at our seats. Thanks Vancouver Whitecaps and BC Place for a wonderful time.

this was my first event in the new whitecaps stadium. I was pleasantly surprised by how remarkable the stadium is. For me, it's got to be one of the most beautiful places in MLS. The seats are comfortable with an unobstructed view. The stewards are nice and helpful. Concession stands easily accessible. bathrooms were clean. On top of all that, whitecap fans were a class act. There was fiendly banter between both sets of fans. I ll definitely be back next time again.

We're Sounders season ticket holders and go to every home game, but Vancouver is the first city where we've done an away match. I can't recommend it highly enough. The new BC Place is gorgeous, the retractable roof lets in the sun on a nice day, and the people of Vancouver are nice and friendly, even when you're cheering the "wrong" team. (Just don't be too obnoxious about it, Sounders fans! I want the same reception when we go back!)

This is your unconvenrional sporting event. At least when compared to the hockey games. Fans are loud and support the team all game long. There is a feel of unity. And when 'Caps score the whole building of 20 000 strong erupts and joins in a song. I find it to be a friendly atmosphere on the stands but with lot of energy and passion. Much different then the soccer in Europe as these events do not have hooligans. Its mostly about fun all around and everyone has a great time. I would recomend everyone come and experience this unique and fun event. Looking forward to the next caps season. Go Caps Go

Sounders FC fan, here. Found Whitecaps fans friendly and helpful (Several even made sure we found to the right Skytrain station, even after the win.) Found it humorous when walking against the crowd to find my wife after we got separated, a fellow yelled out that I "looked like puke", so I had to reply, "Yeah, but we puked all over YOU!!" Other than that, all friendly and cheerful.

A great last game at Empire Field. There were over a thousand travelling fans from Seattle present. The ECS was epically loud. The Whitecaps played a strong match and definitely did not play like a last place team. The local fans were eerily nice and polite (I was so surprised) even though they lost. The seats were close enough to the touchline and the goal that you could really clearly see the players and the action down on that end of the pitch, but every time play went down to the other end you had to stand up or watch the big screen to see what was going on as the seats were generally pretty low to the ground. This was mainly due to the player's benches being in the way.

Whitecaps vs LA Galaxy was a great match. No complaints. Game sold out, passbook tickets worked perfectly, good seats. My only complaint - which exists for every stadium event I've been to - is the outrageous food prices. Drives me nuts every time. I might be inclined to by team merchandise like a t-shirt or hat if I didn't drop $40 on food for two people!!

As a Seattle Sounders fan, I found myself in Vancouver for the weekend and wanting to get my MLS fix. At the time, The Earthquakes were first in the west and the Whitecaps third. B.C. Place stadium is a great venue. I was shocked however to see that the beer available there was Budwieser (ick!). The day was sunny outside yet the roof was closed, the fans started to chant "Open the Roof!". I loved the venue and the Whitecap fans too thus I'd definately come back to watch another match.

This was one of the most fun sporting events I've ever been to. What a great rivalry! The Sounders fans completely took over Empire Field, and the Whitecaps fans were inspired to cheer in response--and I got the impression from fans near me that the crowd normally isn't that vocal. The fans on both sides definitely cared about the outcome of the game, but I didn't see any malicious behavior, which is always a potential issue at these sorts of events (maybe less so here because it was a team at the top of the table playing a team at the bottom, plus we were in Canada, the mecca of passiveness...). I definitely will be returning every year for this game!

I took my dad for his 75th birthday with my son to watch a Houston / Vancouver match. After purchasing Merchandise / Popcorn / Lemonade, we arrived at our seats as the match was starting. There were people with hard copy tickets in our seats. The usher suggested we needed to walk down to customer service. I was not inclined to miss any more of the match (after missing the first goal dealing with the circus). I feell security should have bounced the people that had the hot tickets. Ours were from ticketmaster so we know they weren't counterfit.

I've been to a few matches at BC place to support the whitecaps. Most of them that I have attended they won, and really played to earn the win. Even when they lost they played better then this past saturday's game. The first real disappointing match I've watched due to the fact that the Whitecaps were not playing their usual game. However, doesn't mean one bad match will turn me away from returning to cheer them on again. Go 'Caps go!

My fiancé and I traveled to Vancouver, BC last year for the same game. Our experience last year was amazing the BC Place and fans were great. This year was a much different experience. I bought tickets in the same section we sat in last year, and made sure they were not in the Whitecaps supporters section. When we arrived to go to our seats we were told we could not sit in them because they were close to the supporters and had to go to another section and find seats, upon getting to the new section the workers knew nothing about this and we were shuffled around. When seats were found we had missed more than 10mins of the game. BC Place needs to do a better job of re- seating and not treat the visiting fans like we are an inconvenience. BC place has left a bad taste in my mouth and changed something that used to be a good memory into a bad memory.

This was a great game, other than the bogus penalty shot call. On a semi-related topic, isn't there someone on the Whitecaps staff who is capable and interested enough to keep the Wikipedia page for the current season updated? It is woefully out of date, having only results through April 5.

A young, exciting team beat a bigger, more experienced ... and far more expensive side. They ended up tied on aggregate and lost the competition on penalty kicks, but played with so much determination and energy it hardly felt like a loss. If they keep the passion they'll be fun to watch, and if they improve their finishes they'll be hard to beat.

I've never been to a soccer game before. The crowd gets so involved with the chants and it makes the game a lot of fun.

seats for the game were excellent. quality of pitch side lounge atrocious. it has all the ambience of a greyhound bus depot. clueless young staff behind the counter serving exorbitantly priced drinks, food, ( smoked meat sandwich and potato chips barely edible). on top of all that, the door to the car park was open the whole time with a girl standing INSIDE the lounge! (as opposed to welcoming people by opening the door from the outside, hint; wear a warm jacket.) took some friends from the UK and was thoroughly embarrassed by this farce.
