"Ode to Joy" was an awesome experience for my husband and me. I especially enjoyed hearing the singing of the poem in German by the 1200 voice choir. Thanks to the Toledo Symphony, the building rocked with a beautiful, but strong, melodic sound that I have never experienced before. Beethoven would be proud. The next time we sing "Ode to Joy" in church, I will remember the joy that was mine Sunday.

Ticket priced too high for a concert that lasted just over an hour. The symphony and singing was beautiful

The Ode to Joy event had marvelous potential which is why I attended. The thought of 1000 voices and a great orchestra teaming up to present one of my favorite pieces of music was titillating. First of all it was sad that there were so few others who had the same expectation. I don't think the Center was 1/4 full. I know the event was well publicized and you would think 1000 singers would attract a larger crowd if just for their friends and relatives. My real disappointment was the quality and volume of the electronically amplified sound in the Center. I had a balcony seat at the far end of the Center from the choir and orchestra. While the sound from choir and orchestra was not turned up like the typical rock concert, it was amplified enough to distort some of the vocal and instrumental sound. I enjoy concerts with live music for that reason. The music is live and you can better appreciate voices and instruments when the ear is receiving the music directly from the singer/instrument. You would think that 1000 voices should fill the Center with melody and not need amplification. The problem of the volume and distortion of the music was compounded by the mixing. Certain instruments, soloists, and sections of the chorus came through the two huge speakers overwhelming the others. While I continue to be impressed by the quality of music presented by the Toledo Symphony, and I was not disappointed Sunday, and I thought the choir was awesome, the amplifier took the Joy out of the event for me.

I loved how the orchestra went to a different venue and included over 1200 singers in Symphony No. 9. Intonation however, was lacking and it was almost impossible to hear the percussion section due to the mic setup. I also thought the price of tickets were unnecessary in such a huge venue with thousands of empty seats. Nonetheless, I still enjoyed it. Great job! The subtitles were also very distracting and not in time with the singers.

Tickets prices should have been reduced to get more people to attend. Most of the seats were empty. The different coral groups did an amazing job with the vocals and the orchestra is always amazing

Kids (7 & 4) both enjoyed this, and the tie-in to the Harry Potter theme worked well to let them "see" the music, as the conductor & guide explained the scene behind the music, etc. Technically, a very good orchestra, so also a nice afternoon for adults.
