The Nutcracker

Following their sell-out 2015 performances of Swan Lake, the Imperial Russian Ballet Company return to Australia to perform The Nutcracker. The Nutcracker is famous for Tchaikovsky’s music.  The genius of Tchaikovsky created one of the most recognisable and enduring music scores ever written. The illustrious cast of the Imperial Russian Ballet Company enjoy performing The Nutcracker more than any other ballet from their extensive repertoire, especially when they are joined by children from local ballet schools in the cities that they perform in around the world.

The show was good this year, but disappointed that they did not have the live orchestra as they did last year. Really added something by having an orchestra versus them playing a cd. Kind of disappointing.

My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed the Nutcracker. It was so beautiful. Our reason for going was to introduce our ten year old granddaughter to the ballet. We hope to make this a yearly seasonal event for us as we did for her father and aunt when they were her age.

The San Antonio Symphony set a lavish mood for the Metropolitan Ballet's performance of the Nutcracker at San Antonio's Municipal Auditorium. The dancers were well versed in classical technique and gave an inspired performance of Hoffman's classic story. The local children who performed added whimsy to the performance. The costumes and set were well done. This is a great performance for families to enjoy together to get in the holiday spirit.

My family and I went to see " The Nutcracker" and it was the best show we have seen!..Everything from the location to the seating to the actual show was great, even my 3-yr old was enchanted by the beautiful ballerinas and especially the Dosselmeyer and the mice, he could not take his eyes off!

What a refreshing display of what the classical arts can accomplish in Buffalo, NY! The combination of sumptious sets, delightful music, stunning choreography and truly exceptional dancers made this one of the most engaging Nutcracker's I've seen since the Bolshoi Ballet presentation. Hurray for Sergio Neglia, Heidi Halt and the Neglia Ballet Artists for their vision and hard work to make this spectacular production of the Nutcracker come to the stages of Buffalo. It's a true inspiration for all!

Sheas Performing Arts Center has had The Nutcracker each year in conjuction with The BPO. This is the first year using this dance company & they were terrible! Very few dancers had the correct timing & the 2 lead dancers must have been in their 60's. Sheas needs to bring back the dance company from Columbus they have used every year in the past or I will never attend this again no matter how great the BPO was, and they were as usual...

The presentation of the Nutcracker was beyond any I had seen before. The music, dancers, costumes, and staging were amazing. We had balcony tickets and yet saw everything from that distance and the sound was unbelievably clear. The Neglia dancers did a fantastic job performing. I love the BPO, one of the reason I bought tickets.

This is the 3rd year I have taken my great-niece to see the Nutcracker Ballet and by far, this was the most disappointing on many fronts. The dancers did an excellent job, but I did not like some of the choices (mouse queen & a child for the Nutcracker Soldier), I was disappointed that the dancers did not come out afterwards as they have in years past. Each of the past 2 years I have taken my niece's picture with the dancers for her special Nutcracker scrapbook. This year there will not be a picture to put in there. :-( I was not impressed with the venue (Municipal Auditorium in San Antonio). Ther chairs were lousy (I paid $80 each for these seats!!??) and the auditorium did not get very dark. Another shocker was we did not have much time to look at the souvenirs before they rushed us out. All in all, the dancers did a good job but the rest of the venue was lousy.

The quality of dance was wonderful! This was our first time seeing the Nutcracker outside of Chapel Hill, NC and we were pleasantly surprised. It has become a tradition for my husband and I to go to the Nutcracker every year and this was our fourth year. The dancers were exquisite and our seats were excellent. I don't think there is a bad seat in the house. I was surprised that it was not a fuller audience but I think that had to do with it being a holiday weekend. The talent of the student dancers was very impressive as well. In the NC performance the students did not do as difficult of moves and we are so excited to see it again next year in San Antonio to continue our tradition!

Nice local performance for family to attend together Thanksgiving weekend. A few ot the young performers really showed their talent. I was a bit disappointed at some of the audience arriving late for the show and also those returning late to their seats after intermission. I was surprised that the staff allowed them to come in and interrupt the performance. I am a regular attendee of the arts in and around Charlotte but normally attend shows at Blumenthal uptown and this was at Ovens auditorium so maybe it's a difference between the two locations--? Given I would still recommend seeing any Nutcracker performance with family or friends around the holiday season.

There is no disputing the amazing talented dancers in this company. The sets were interesting and sometimes enchanting. However the land of the Sugarplum fairy was not as mesmerizing as I have seen in other productions. Neither was the choreography for those dancers that include the fairies, Spanish, Arabian, Oriental pair and Russian. Usually the children I bring along are focused during these dances but this time they became bored because they cannot appreciate the technical prowess of the dancers which was outstanding. A little more visual stimulation in terms of set for the sugarplum land would make it more appealing to the younger audience. They loved the cupcake, very original yet traditional.

The Nutcracker was wonderful! The dancers did an excellent job and the symphony was fabulous! You can get good seats at an affordable price and it's a great way to get in the holiday spirit. For first timers. This is a ballet. You let the music and dancing tell you the story. No narrative. You will be watching a classic artform for 3 hours. Small children could get restless.

The dancing was phenomenal and theatrical. It was about 2 hours long, so it was bearable. There were magic tricks, comedy, a choir, and audience involvement. I also liked that Clara was not played by an adult the whole performance. The dancing in the second act blew me away. I've never seen ballet combined with break dancing, ballroom, or gymnastics before. I dragged my boyfriend to this ballet. He stayed awake the whole time and even cheered! We are still raving about it. It is pricey, but definitely worth the money!

This is the first time in years I've seen the Milwaukee Ballety's Nutcracker. I loved it back then, and I love it even more now. The sets are fantastic, and even more "sugary" than I remember before. The scenes and dances have changed a bit over the years, but for the positive. It's good enough to see twice in a season.

I took my g-sons (6 & 3) & dtr to the boys' 1st live Nutcracker performance b/c the boys love everything Nutcracker. They were thrilled their distant cousins were in it & got their autographs @ the Afterglow. 6y/o kept saying he *has* to be *in* it next year. Dtr asked, "Is it everything you thought it would be?" He said, "It's *better*!" Very nice for a small town local cast. You can tell they worked very hard in rehearsals and put a lot of time into it. Set designers also work very hard going all out on special effects. I've seen big city ballet companies' performances of the Nutcracker live, and their special effects had nothing on our little local theater company. Our dancers may not be professionals, but they put their whole heart into it. Something about that makes it more genuine. This is our local theater's 26th staging of The Nutcracker, and as I've read in the paper, no kid who shows up to audition is denied a part in the production. These kids love the Nutcracker and Uncle Drosselmeyer as much as Clara, Fritz and the other children in the story love them. And of course they love Clara and Fritz too. Those who are too young to dance or do gymnastics, and those who have never had lessons, are cast as children dressed in period costume sitting on the stage steps listening to a kindly and elderly gentleman, much like Uncle Drosselmeyer, read the Nutcracker story in a nutshell. Those who have had lessons are wide-eyed with wonder even as they perform, because the costumes and set are so beautifully glittering.

The ballet was incredible. The dancing was superb, and the set design was fantastic! I couldn't have asked for a better experience as far as performance goes. My only problem with the night was the fact that there were NO pictures of ballet dancers ANYwhere to be found. And I wasn't allowed to take pictures either, which I understand, as the flash would have bothered the dancers (even though I know how to take pictures without the flash), but I would have appreciated some pictures somewhere. Other than that, my night was amazing. I spent it with the man I love, seeing a ballet we love, and doing something, that we both love, together as husband and wife.

I love the Adler Theatre setting. The ballerinas had such beautiful costumes and I remember thinking more than once how graceful their hands where, that the choreographer must stress that. I did miss a few pieces of the story that they did not do in this presentation. For example normally in the story Clara is shown falling asleep and then a sleigh takes her to the winter wonderland. I guess for younger kids I like to see those parts of the story to help explain it was a dream etc. I think this performance empasized the dancing more more than the story part. The Arabian dancers were amazing. I felt the Chinese dancers part was too short, and they did not get much time. The children who were in the production were so cute and did such a great job...the littlest boy who was probably 5 stole the show when he was on stage. My daughter loved it and we had a great family experience. We drove 2 hours to go and see it and did not regret it at all.

We have seen many of the Makaroff Nutcracker productions over the years, but this was undoubtedly the best. Having the Fox Valley Symphony playing the music instead of recorded music and having the Appleton Boy Choir voices really gave the production a professional touch. The guest soloists were wonderful and the local students were exceptionally good. We really enjoyed this and hope it becomes a yearly tradition at the PAC.

The Nutcracker performance by the Academy of Russian Classical Ballet and Russian Artists International was spectacular. The cast ranged from children, who perform their rules very well and in sync with one another, two principals from the Kazakhstan National Ballet, who performed the Sugar Plum Fairy and Nutcracker Prince beautifully. The costuming and staging was very professional. I especially like the use of a live nutcracker in the party scene, as opposed to the usual wouldn't nutcracker doll. The Mouse King was appropriately dramatic and wicked, and Drosselmeyer, performed by another Russian dancer. Added great flair to the show. Looking forward to attending again next year!

I and my family try to catch a performance of The Nutcracker every year, but this was our first time seeing it staged by the Long Beach Ballet. Having seen The Nutcracker so many times, I have to admit we've probably becoming a bit jaded, and so were surprised to find how delightful of a time we had. It was wonderful and magical evening; we were captivated from start to finish. Everything was so very well done: production design, costuming, pyrotechnics and wire-work, choreography, the music by a full 58-piece symphony orchestra (including two harps, very important for The Nutcracker).

It isn't everyday I have a "knock your socks off" experience. But on that Saturday night, I witnessed a performance of the Nutcracker the exceeded everything is seen to date. From the choral singers with both an angelic and young voices, to the stunning orchestration of Intrada, my personal favorite, to the closing of the first act, a wholly wonderful experience. I've recommended it to friends who have never been to a ballet. The familiarity of the Nutcracker music and the beautiful lines carved out by the dancers, this is a gateway into the arts I think is necessary today. These artist show why the video games and TV should be shut off once in a while to see the impossible in front of their eyes. This was truly amazing.

My daughter, dancing since age 3, had one wish for her sweet 16... To see your ballet and forgo a big sweet 16 party! She and I share the love of ballet and I was excited to be a art of this memorable day with her. We decided to go as a family. My husband and son were Leary... But became fans soon after Act 1! Fabulous show. Great memories and family time in te wonderful city of Chicago. And to the orchestra we say... BRAVO! That was amazing! Candy, fellow life ballerina turned mom from Appleton Wisconsin.

Watching the Joffrey Ballet's performance was really impressive. I watched this performance with my children as a kind of Christmas gifts. I strongly recommend it. If possible, I will watch their performances again ASAP. Don't miss the student discount ticket.

This is the best Nutcracker I've ever seen -- and I've seen many. The live orchestra, the dancing, the costumes, the staging, the live horse, the flying angels .... Un-freaking-believable. I highly recommend this show.

I took my family of which several were in the age range from 5 years - 10 years and they were equally entertained as I, a 62 year old grandmother. It was almost everyone's first exposure to the live theatre play at the Terrace Theater - Long Beach Convention and Entertainment Center's production of The Nutcracker (a well known Christmas classic), and the dancing was exquisite. We have a new Christmas tradition - to enjoy a live stage version of The Nutcracker with family children.

This was my 5th (or 6th?) time attending The Nutcracker at The Bardavon Opera House. The venue is magnificent and the show always delights. I look forward to it all year and have introduced several friends and family members to both the Bardavon and The Nutcracker. Love the music, the costumes and the performers are always amazing. Without reservation, I recommend this show!

"The Nutcracker" is our granddaughter's favorite ballet to watch on television and internet. For her 6th birthday, she enjoyed Butler Ballet's presentation. The dancers, music by Butler Symphony Orchestra, scenery, and Clowes Memorial Hall were all beautiful. The entire experience was incredible for us all.

The play was magnificent and the costumes were great. I sat real close and could see all the faces of actors and actresses. They appeared to enjoy performing and I enjoyed the performance. The only problem I had with it was that the dancing of an adult couple went on and on and I fell asleep for a couple minutes. Other than that the rest of the performance was excellent.

Marvelous cast. Beautifully done! The ballet was breathtaking. The little children precious and very talented. Our favorites were of course Clara and the professional ballerinas. But, there was not a weak spot among the cast. Everyone was impeccable. And kudos to the set crew. Absolutely beautiful and multidimensional. We're looking forward to next year!

This particular version was VERY enjoyable. I took my granddaughter and explained to her there wouldn't be any spoken words. That it would be like looking at a book and understanding the story through the pictures. She liked it very much. Her older sister when I took her when she was younger didn't care for it. This version it seemed to me was more colorful and it's interpretation more lively.

I've been to many presentations and this one was unforgettable! The musicians alone held me in awe through the ballet with their incredible performance of The Nutcracker. I so enjoyed watching the faces of my two granddaughters ages 7 and 9 who were entranced by these magical moments.

Let me start with this.. I have been to see the Nutcracker in New York City a few times in my lifetime. My purpose of seeing this show was to bring a lady friend of mine that is from the Island of Antigua, and although she has been in the states for 29 years... she had never seen the Nutcracker, but had always heard it was a must see... We were both amazed at how young the dancers were and how well they performed.. I was feeling pretty good with myself that I was the one to finally bring her to see the Nutcracker and how pleased she was at the performance... There is no doubt that they will all go on to promising careers if that is what they want Thanks for putting a smile on my friends face... it was worth more than you can imagine, Thanks again, JESSY & ELEANOR

I found it to be a glorified Christmas dance recital. Lots of mistakes by the dancers and definitely not professional except for the sugar plum fairy.

My daughter and I had a really good time at the Makaroff Youth Ballet performance of the Nutcracker - the costumes were excellent, the sets were fun and whimsical and I thought the dancing was great, especially since most of the dancers are not yet professionals (but I think a few have real potential to continue forward in their training). We're so glad we were able to attend.
