Lyle's first performance at The Pageant was everything I hoped for: a wide-ranging review of 30 years of the insightful tunes with his unique urbane cowpoke perspective, always holding on to his Western Swing roots. I enjoyed watching/listening to Russ Kunkel play his magic drum kit. His chops, always tasty, have become more austere since his Jackson Browne days. Every percussive strike was precise and perfectly executed. Guitar and fiddle sidemen, Keith Sewell and Luke Bulla, both born to sing tenor provided the depth needed to give texture to Lyle's songs. The surprise of the evening was bassist Viktor Krauss (sibling of Alison Krause) who blazed up and down the fretboard of his doghouse bass without so much as a glance; a true artist.

Lyle and his band played non stop for 2 1/2 hours in 90 degree heat. The Hampton Beach Casino and Ballroom is not air conditioned and only has 4 ceiling fans. New Hampshire doesn't think they need A/C. He played a variety of old and new with a wonderful band!

Lyle always brings sophistication and polish to his shows, big band or acoustic ensemble. These Gents delivered a long professional set plus a few encores, no one seemed disappointed. The Wilbur drink service could stand a few pointers in professionalism but not too bad for a bunch of college students bored out of their minds by oldtimers music.

I have seen Lyle several times at the Cape Cod Melody Tent, and the concerts are quite joyous and a bit raucous. This concert was a bit more mellow and technical - but very enjoyable nonetheless. The acoustic group was excellent. The only thing I would prefer is less talking in between songs, and more music.

Lyle delivered a fantastic concert along with talented musicians, This was the most intimate of three concerts I've attended of Lyle. Lyle did a nice job acknowledging the musical abilities of the other musicians. They played for well over 2 hours, and it was evident that they enjoyed performing for the audience.

First time ever to see Lyle Lovett. Was a bit disappointed when I realized the concert was not going to be with his Large Band, but his Acoustic Group instead. But we were absolutely impressed with every one of his 6 guest band members! And who knew that Lyle is a comedian?!?! We had a great time and would definitely recommend seeing Lyle Lovett!

I have seen Lyle Lovett in concert many times, usually with his Large Band. This show was with his Acoustic Group, so I was a bit worried there would be too many slower songs. Shouldn't have worried! The pacing of the show was very good, and all of the musicians, including Viktor Krauss, Keith Sewell, Russ Kunkel, and John Hagen were first-rate. The harmony/backup singer Arnold McCuller was great, and sang one of his songs. Each musician got to perform a solo, or play an extended part of a song, during the show, and they were excellent! As always, Lyle was gracious and funny, and spoke to the audience often between songs. He performed his cover of "Well All Right" which he recently recorded for a Buddy Holly tribute CD. Didn't know he had done this, and now that song is in my iTunes library! There were a couple of songs I would have preferred over a couple that were performed, but overall it was a wonderful show. I hadn't been to the Uptown Theatre before, and it's a nice venue.

We have followed Lyle Lovett from Maryland/Virginia to NAPA in various venues and we never cease to at some time in the performance to find our jaws dropped in amazement at the breadth and depth of the musicality of Lyle or Lyle and his musicians - if they accompany him. The appearance at the Uptown last Friday was no exception to the rule of "jaw drop" as we allowed ourselves to be swept away into the tapestry of music Lyle chose to weave on Friday. He could present five nights of concerts in a row and never repeat a set, yet each night would be unmistakably Lyle, or Lyle and his incredible groups of musicians. His style is "Lyle." We have seen him in some pretty fabulous venues (Merriweather Pavillion in Columbia, Md., the Birchmere in Alexandra, Va, the Mondavi at UC Davis, Davis,Ca.) but none can beat the Uptown venue in NAPA. Thanks Lyle! Thanks Uptown!

Lyle Lovett is always great, but this venue was special (good acoustics, not too large), and I really enjoyed his acoustic band. He gave them each some time in the spotlight. The first set was mostly from his newest album (Release Me) plus a few other songs (mostly covers). My one complaint was that he has SO many great songs from his previous albums that there was not time in the second set to do justice to his music as a whole.

Lyle Lovett is always entertaining. The musicianship of his acoustic group is not to be missed. Keith Sewell on guitar and mandolin is extraordinary. His fingers float. Luke Bulla fiddle playing was outstanding. John Hagen dazzled on his cello. Vicktor Krauss kept the bass groove humming. Russ Kunkel kept the beat smooth on congas and cymbals without dominating the songs. Lyle's dry sense of humor drew in the audience, but his lyrics pull the whole thing together. Wonderful evening.

This show was really great. I've seen him once before at a larger place, but this was really nice in a smaller venue. He's got a super talented bunch of musicians playing with him. My boyfriend didn't know his music and didn't think he would like it because he thought of Lyle as country, but he's a new fan and loved the evening! I will always come to see him when he's in LA. This venue was far for me and traffic was a bear, but it was worth it and then some!

Lyle has a consummate guitarist' approach to his songs. His attention to tuning his guitar when he capo'd up underscored his perfectionist approach to his music. Sitting close enough to see his finger picks working it was obvious he wanted to demonstrate his range both in guitar dynamics as well as vocal presence. LUKE BULLA - Outstanding performance. His solo act just strumming his violin like a ukulele was mesmerizing. KEITH SEWELL - What style of guitar can't this guy play? Blistering flat picking, classic intros with a high counter vocal to Lyle. JOHN HAGEN the silent cello guy. Funny and just behind the mix. I'm so sorry that I didn't record the bassist's name. He received only 1 extended solo and it blew my mind! OK get this - I am so hot about this band 'cause it was one of the best I've ever seen. That means from the 60s on people. Yeah like the Byrds, Buffalo Springfield, Stones, Emmy, Knopfler, Cure, Black Flag U2 & on and on . . .

Lyle Lovett is a rare and wonderful genius. His wry wit bridges seamlessly from his songs to his introductions. Before launching into his next song, he tells a story that seems like he just remembered it while talking to friends around the kitchen table. And it's that intimacy--even when he's playing in a large concert hall--that makes him one of our favorites. That's all in addition to a band of virtuoso musicians who fill the place with toe-tapping, acoustic joy, each one given their moment to shine by the caring and sharing Lovett. It simply doesn't get much better than this.

I have seen Lyle Lovett several times in several different formats, with his Large Band, with the Trio, on a song writers tour Buddy Guy and Joe Eli and he always puts on a great show. The acoustic show was amazing and the group was as tight as any group I've seen. Luke Bulla is an amazing fiddle player and equally amazing on vocals. Also, Keith Sewell is an incredible musician. This group together is absolutely amazing. If this shows comes anywhere near you, it is an absolutely must see!

We'd never seen Lyle Lovett perform before or ever listened to any of his music. When we saw he was coming to Mobile we thought, why not give it a shot. We've seen him for years on TV but only on newsreels or interviews so we had no idea of what to expect from a musical standpoint. We were pleasantly surprised to see how great he is both musically and entertainment wise. We're basically Rock & Roll music lovers, but do have a Country Music gene or two, so we really enjoyed the Texas Country genre and his dry sense of humor. Both he and his group put on a show we'll remember for a long time. If you've never seen him in concert or ever heard any of his music, we highly recommend doing so.

The show was great! Lyle and the band put on one awesome performance. I have heard my share of live music over the years, but I think the sound at The Pageant was the very best I have heard from a live band, bar none. If you are a Lyle Lovett fan you know that the recording of his albums are some of the very best recordings done. He, his fellow musicians, and his engineers are the best. The sound Lyle and his band preformed the other night was simply outstanding, very close to studio quality sound, with the only difference being the type of instruments played in the original recordings. Kudos to the sound person!!!!! If your a Lovett fan and have not seen him live, you need to do so. A venue like The Pageant is the perfect place.

I love the way this talented group of musicians can 'hush' the crowd with just a few notes and hold the attention of everyone in the room with their voices and musical instruments. Everyone there seemed to be mesmerized by their sound. So glad to have experienced Lyle Lovett and his Acoustic Group live and at the Pageant. I almost gave it 4 stars because of the sky rocketing cost of ticket prices but I don't think that is a fault of the band. I am just very select on who I pay to see.

I believe this was the 10th Lyle Lovett concert I've been to, which includes two times that he played at the St. Louis riverfront. I have never been disappointed. I only wish he had gospel singers with him, as he has had at many of the previous concerts. Nonetheless, he is very talented and is so gracious to the musicians who play with him.

I have spent a lifetime being touched by and cracked up by the sadness and humor of Mr. Lovett. To see him was a bucket list, and it was all I could have hoped for. My initial fears of it being "his acoustic group" vs. His "large band" were quickly erased as the bluegrass tinged sound was not just fitting to his song selections, but the musicianship was so superlative that the new arrangements were superior in some cases. My concert mates drove from Chicago and Indiana to be with me, and considered the trip more than worth it. As always, the Pageant morphed for its audience effortlessly with full seats in the mosh pit. And it ably handled the two and a half hour show which left the audience in awe. Perfect musicians, perfect sound, perfect venue. Just wonderful.

In this smaller venue, with his acoustic group, I could get more of a sense of Lyle, the person, with his anecdotes/jokes. I enjoyed the fact that he presented two "younger" artists who were quite talented as well.

I really enjoyed Lyle backed by a smaller group. It seemed more intimate than the Large Band and You really got to hear the vocals harmonize better. That being said, the Large Band is my favorite and brings out the best in Lyle, so that is the reasoning behind the 4 star rating.

Great music from all the musicians. Lyle was funny and projected a warm personality. Can anyone tell me the name of the song that they played at the beginning and end of their concert (same song, different styles)

A great evening. Lyle and his group never stopped playing! The perfect mix of music for all moods. Lyle's humor, personal stories, and fiddler's spotlights added fun and energy!

Lyle Lovett did not dissapoint. The 2 hour concert was just a little late starting, but when it did, all was well at Jesse hall. Surrounded by fabulous talent, Lyle generously allowed the two young men who flanked him on the front to showcase their abundant ability. Lyle was soft spoken when he reminisced about playing in Columbia at the old Silver Bullet in years gone by before he was a household name and commented about enjoying the town in the afternoon before he came on. His music blended so many genres and was so smooth and clean it would be hard to imagine that anyone could have watched the show without being moved at some point. I would recommend that anyone given the chance go see the Lyle Lovett acoustic group.

This is the 7th time I've seen Lyle in concert and he never disappoints. I've seen him with the Large Band, with him and John Hagan, with the Acoustic Group and all of them are fantastic. He's funny and the crowd loves him. You'll never regret going to a Lyle Lovett concert, he's a class act.

He is a storyteller and commedian. The great thing about Lyle Lovett is that is surrounds himself with such incredible talent. He doesn't always need to be in the limelight. He showcases the talent he brings with him. Great show. Hoyt Sherman was a great venue for this event.

I haven't seen Lyle Lovett since the 1990's and I was very happy he was passing through Des Moines. The band's performance was exceptional -- the music was great. The band members were very entertaining as Lyle would engage them in various conversations about their personal life. The songs played were old and new and the band played for more than two hours. What a great show!!

Except for the very tall man in front of me which blocked the left side of the stage the show was an entertaining evening of Lyle Lovett favorites and some new twists on other artists work. Really enjoyed his stage presence and his band mates individual talents. It was a bit warm in the venue which made for some dankness in the air, but at least with a crowd on the elder side the smell was not all body sprayed scents of the turbo young.

Mix of old and new with really spectacular musicians, especially the front men of fiddle, mandolin/guitar and cello. It was clear they enjoyed playing with each other and Lyle smiled while he watched them play. Good stories too, which seemed spontaneous. We have seen Lyle in different groups from his "very large band" or with John Hiatt or by himself. He never fails.

I have been a Lovett fan for years. I have several of his albums but this is the first concert for me. It was what I expected: Unassuming and intimate with a superior level of talent. I love supporting people like this. He is a bit of a cult act but with unquestionable talent. This isn't an act that can make a huge living selling an image. They have to tour and supporting them is a pleasure. I can't say I am the biggest fan of blue grass but I knew he would be playing that going in. The talent of the musicians and the variety of the show made it very enjoyable. The mix was a bit sketchy at first it was tighter by the third song. I will definitely see him again if given the chance.

I had not seen Lyle live for about 15 years. His songwriting is consistently wonderfully quirky and is able to touch me with equal parts wit, humor, pathos, and wisdom. The band was excellent and Lyle is still at the top of game vocally. Outstanding show. Thanks, Lyle!

I've seen Mr. Lovett about 10 times. It's always a good time. I got to meet him after the show. He was kind and very gracious to everyone waiting to see him. I look forward to future shows. I enjoyed hearing Luke Bulla and Keith Sewell as well.
