Lykke Li

Born in Sweden, Lykke Li’s cool brand of electronic dream pop is decidedly Scandinavian, and bears a faint resemblance to that other Nordic music goddess Björk. In Lykke Li's music the synthesizers are like shimmering fjords, and the violins and cellos like ice-capped mountain peaks. However, it’s Lykke Li’s voice -- a soprano -- that has the range of a cinematic Nordic vista and his force of her music. Lykke Li dropped her debut album, Youth Novels, in 2008.

This concert was by far the best concert I've ever attended. First, Lykke Li is an amazing performer and was beautiful and so fluid in her movements. She is mesmerizing to watch. In addition to that, everything about the lighting and stage effects complemented her style and the mood of her new album (which is an amazing album btw), so that coupled with the amazing acoustics of the building made for an incredible and immersive experience, even from the cheapest seats we could get. I would buy a DVD of this performance just so I could relive it, I loved it so much.

The concert was absolutely amazing... Filled with energy, emotion, and a love for what she does (something some artist don't have anymore). The Showbox at the market is now one of my favorite places to see a concert at. Small enough for an intimate feel but not so packed that you can't move around

I love Lykke Li's music, but this concert was only okay. Like another reviewer had mentioned, the mood was rather somber. I'm sorry, but I don't understand how people in Boston are rating this event so high when you could barely hear the crowd when Lykke Li stopped for us to sing along. High-energy? Maybe she was, but the crowd sure wasn't. There were quite few slow songs, but this was one of the stillest crowds I've ever been part of. She told us to slow dance and people just stood there like statues. I don't know if it's her fault for not being able to work the crowd, or if the Boston audience was just boring. Either way, it wasn't an amazing experience. I'd love to give her a 5 just because she is great, but I'm rating an event here and let's not kid ourselves. Recommended only if you're a big fan and really want to see her.

I must say I bought these tickets 6 months in advance, and by the time the show rolled around I was thinking about not going anymore. But I went. And i am so glad I did. Lykke Li is seriously one of the modern performers (singer/song-writer/performer) who really can transform a space and make it her own. Her soul was pretty much all over the place as was everyone else's in the room. Sounds new age? Pssssh! Whatever! souls dancing on the dance floor? Hell yeah! The lights were awesome, the smoke was awesome, her back up/band was awesome, her outfit was amazing, and she really took the show. Pulvarize me with your music! Go see her! You won't regret it!

Lykke Li was pretty good... lead singer was a great performer but with all of the many people that were on stage, I was really only aware of her. She sang flawlessly but the sound was terrible. I guess my expectations for the House of Blues was higher than what I got.

one of the more interesting artists out there at the moment. she has an ethereal presence on stage, waving her flowing black robes like a dark fairy. she's totally gorgeous and i was captivated by her throughout the entire show. her voice is sandy and soft at the same time, and it ebbs and flows like water. each song was unique and her variety kept the show alive and exciting. it was an amazing experience.

Lykke Li is one of those performers who electrify their audience even before they set foot on stage. The lighting, ambiance, fog machine and set design had New York City fans wild for five minutes of a purely instrumental intro, and it only got better from there. She sounds incredible live, everyone in her band is a really talented musician, and her songs are such the better experience live than they are recorded. Even if her album doesn't have you convinced, a live show definitely will. A must-see.

Despite the show starting almost two hours after the published schedule, and the usual crowd of college kids shoving and hardly respecting your private space or the fact you also want to see what goes on, Lykke itself was amazing, the show was enticing, she really gave a good performance and made sure not to miss any of her hits

Lykke Li put on an amazing show at one of my favorite venues, the TLA in Philadelphia. This artist connects with her audience, and her live performance surpasses any of her YouTube videos. For me, this was a "kick ass" rock n roll show. My teenage daughter and her friend wanted to see her, so I figured I would watch the opening song and then retire to the bar area to relax. Each song was so captivating, that I never moved from my close vantage point on the floor. I suggest you see this girl live, in a small venue before she moves up to the larger arenas.

Lykke Li is an amazing performer. She performed a good balance of new and older songs, while breathing new life into songs that a casual listener may have skipped over on her albums. She is very engaging with the audience; telling short stories between songs and introducing some of the history of her songs. All the lighting and Lykke's movements across the stage give the show a mystical and magical theme.

I get it now. Lykke Li is the widow in mourning on the album cover of I Never Learn, dressed in black, creepy even. This musical set of love songs about a love gone bad had me thinking this show might be a downer. But no, it was beautiful, haunting and simply perfect, Lykke Li's set was well thought out, the set design was cool (aside from the blinding lights!) the band was back-lit and Lykke's voice sounded incredible, much better than the recording. Bravo!

An amazing show by this up-and-coming star. Monochromatic lighting and set created a unique ambiance, the extended arrangements of the songs proved quite enthralling. Short set, but a very powerful show. One gripe with the Buckhead Theatre: Hot and steamy in the auditorium. I recommend the addition of ceiling fans or other methods of circulating the air... it was stifling.

Even better than I could have imagined. It's not even the fact that she did all of my favorites songs from both of her albums, but from start to finish, the crowd was in the show and ALL of her heart and emotion was in each one of them. The lighting, the acoustics, absolutely flawless.

I have been a die-hard Lykke Li fan for years now, so when I discovered she was performing minutes away from my house I literally jumped for joy. The show itself started wonderfully with a beautiful supporting performance by First Aid Kit. I hadn't heard much from the duo, but I was more than pleased at the end of their short set. When Lykke Li took the stage her entrance was highly anticipated as fog machines, strobe lights and music echoed through the historic theater. Lykke opened with Jerome and sounded just as perfect as she does on her albums. The show continued with a wide selection of tracks from both albums. The band and backup singers really added to the performance and made every song unforgettable. My only complaint was that of every fan "She didn't play Breaking it Up!" Lykke skipped her hit breaking it up as well as two of my favorites dance dance dance and let if fall. The set list is up to the artist and I'm sure she just wanted to showcase more from her Wounded Rhymes album rather than Youth Novels. Overall I had an amazing time and was highly impressed with Lykke Li's performance.

This show was incredible! Starting out with First Aid Kit who completely set the bar for Lykke Li because they were just so great. Top vocals, and even better live than on the record, their folk-y, string-and-drum sound made for a great beginning. Headliner Lykke Li is a true artist to say the least. Not just in the sense that she's a recording artist, but in her performance, which rings of fine art. From the lighting to the minimalistic stage set up (which really made her stand out and helped in setting the mood of her music), she caught everyone's undivided attention every second of the show. She's one of those that really feel the music, rather than put on a show, and with that, captivates the audience. Only draw-back: Lykke doesn't communicate much at all with the audience, aside from a couple of words, and that's something I value a lot in an artist.

Unlike her opening band, First Aid Kit, Lykke Li left little to really be excited about at the end of the night. I am glad I was able to hear her live, but Li had little interest in the audience and seemed to hurry through her set list as if she had more pressing things I attend to. Fortunately, First Aid Kit was enough to carry me through the show and Li's one encore. Just disappointed in the overall vibe of the show.

This was the most god-awful gig I think I've ever been to. From the pre-show write-ups I'd seen, it sounded like it would be a good mix of tracks with different sounds etc but to be honest I think she could have played one track for an hour and a half and it would have sounded the same. It was longest hour and a half of my life! On the plus side, the venue was awesome and Mapei, the support, was really good. I'll definitely be looking her up i the future. As for Lykke Li, I definitely won't be buying any of her music. My advice - steer clear!

This was probably the worst gig I've been to in years. The performance lacked energy, dripped with fake spontaneity, failed to engage the audience. 5 songs in, Li announced her frustration with the early part of the set, by calling "right, let's get this started" asking everybody to get up and dance for the next number - a song too slow to dance to which left the audience standing there like so many mourners at a funeral. One Springsteen cover got feet tapping, but does anyone really believe (even though it's a great song) that it was her "favorite song ever"? Remarkably, at the end, the house lights and recorded music came on before she left the stage - leaving the band walking off at the same time as the audience...a limp end to a limp concert. Including the encore, one hour and twenty minutes. A relief to us all she didn't subject us to more.

The concert eventually became great, but only after the sound team finally balanced the sound. It's not Lykke Li's fault, but the crowd was not with her for the first few songs because, to be quite honest, the sound coming from the speakers was offensive. I'm familiar with her music, so I knew something was amiss, and it was eventually mostly corrected, but it remained too loud for the finality of the show. I usually wish they turned UP the volume at shows, and everyone around me expressed the same opinion, so I know it wasn't just me. Come on, Radio City! You can do better!

This was a really strange show. I didn't hate it, but it wasn't good. Lykke Li has an amazing voice. The sound was good and Radio City is so beautiful. She had a decent set list but anticlimactic encore. The worst part was that the artist did not match the performance. For example, if you see Aerosmith or Drake you expect this cheesy level of dramatic stage performance e.g. "HELLO NEW YORK!! HOWS EVERYONE TONIGHT LET ME HEAR YOU SAY YEAH! You can do better than that! I was in Kansas City last night and they did better!" It felt like I was at a pep rally. She asked people to stand up and sing along to songs a lot of people around me didn't know. It was also dumb to dance standing up in front of your overpriced seat. The drunk people made it happen though, which was hilarious. To me, if the point is to dance to the dance music that she is most known for, the venue more suited would have been Webster Hall. The crowd was pretty bad. Mostly affluent people over 35 that got completely wasted off $16 drinks before the show even started. There was a fight that broke out next to us, which is laughable considering we saw Lykke Li. Overall not my favorite performance and I infortunately would not recommend this tour for casual fans.

So glad I purchased tickets. She put on a great show and sounded amazing. The stage was amazing too! Would definitely see her again. Only wish she played longer !

The show seemed short, she played for about one hour. It was very good. Good energy. Wish it was longer. Wish she had played I Know Places, as that is my favorite.

Lykke Li was just okay. Her sound was definitely off. Her vocals were too loud and she wasn't consistent. I heard by many friends how good Lykke Li is live, but I was not impressed, nor was my girlfriend who attended with me. We say La Roux at the Fox the night after and they KILLED it. The sound problem was definitely Lykke Li's set and I was overall disappointed.

Lyyke Li was absolutely lovely. She was breathtaking, captivating, and above all genuine and sincere. Her interactions with the audience were perfect, as was her voice. Stunning, phenomenal performance overall!

My wife and I drove up from Santa Cruz to see this show at the Fox Theatre in Oakland. We had been looking forward to this show for months. Unfortunately, the sound was so distorted and harsh that we had to stick pieces of napkin in our ears to sit through the show. Bummer. The people next to us had there fingers in their ears and kept remarking to each other about how it sounded strange. I don't know if they had it up to loud or their speakers were blown out but it really ruined the experience. We saw Beirut there a few weeks before and the sound was amazing! Also, they kept shinning bright white lights into the audience from behind the band, which was cool at first but after having bright lights in your eyes for an hour it gives you a head ache. I get the effect they were trying to create (a back lit band shrouded in mystical fog) but they over did it and it got old fast.

I'm a huge fan of Lykke Li, but left the concert disappointed. She has great stage presence and played a great selection of songs from her two CDs. The problem was that her voice (one of her greatest strengths) was difficult to appreciate above the music. Even she indicated there was a sound issue within seconds of coming on stage. Not sure if the venue simply wasn't appropriate, or whether there was a technical problem...but I believe the concert simply didn't do justice to her and her music. I'm happy I saw Lykke Li in concert and would still recommend her to others....I'll just cross my fingers that it was on "off night".

lykke li is a goddess. although she was only on stage for about an hour. a little bit of a disappointment considering the $30 ticket price, and the expectation of being blasted into the 5th dimension on 11/11/11.

I had seen Lykke Li a few years ago in San Francisco and convinced two of my friends to join me this time. She did not disappoint! She is a passionate performer and so much fun to watch!! We loved the opener, First Aid Kit also. I have been listening to them for a few months and am excited for the new album. Good Times!!!! Only complaint were the people squishing in at the last minute not standing back because they were late, very pushy crowd!

It was ok. The crowd was kinda lame and the energy of the show could've been better. I still had a good time though.

Could not even make out the words. Huge contrast to all her lovely videos on Youtube where her voice is heavenly. Just strip it down and let us hear the music!!

While the show was great I have seen far better. It might have been the speakers or just how she used the microphone but the lyrics were rather mumbled and hard to hear.

It was dark so you could barely see her and the music started out too loud; you couldn't even hear her singing. Not all of it was bad but you don't want to go to a show and say that. The Venue was to big for her or the sound people didn't know what they were doing. Would I see her again? in the smaller venue? yes.

I was super amped for this show, as Lykke Li is one of my favorite artists, but I was really disappointed when I left. The show was way too short, the sound was horrible, the venue was over sold and Lykke looked like she hadn't washed her hair in six months.
