Art Garfunkel

ART GARFUNKEL IN CONCERT:Art Garfunkel, Grammy-winning songwriter and one-half of the inimitable folk duo Simon & Garfunkel, is fully recovered from a vocal cord injury sustained in 2010 and back on tour. Fans at the singer's 2013 shows were blissfully aware there had even been an issue, as the singer passionately wove his voice through beloved classics like "Sound of Silence" and "Bridge Over Troubled Water." Amid rumors of a new solo album and possible future tour with Paul Simon, Garfunkel will take the stage with more energy and excitement than ever in 2014.BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:Born in Queens, NY, Garfunkel began singing in the first grade, perfecting his technique with a wire recorder given to him by his father.

It was truly a life changing experience. I remembered how my mother loved "bridge over troubled water" during the concert. My mom was an abusive alcoholic and after listening to the concert I realized she just wanted to be loved like in that song but was so disappointed it did not work out for her, she went a different route to get her needs met......The concert opened up my heart to her a little bit. But sometimes that is all it takes.......

The concert was quiet and personal. It was nice not to have to put earplugs to hear the music. His poetry was fantastic, he seemed to speak from the heart. Best concert all year! The guitar and keyboard players were fantastic!!

After 50 years performing, Art Garfunkle is as comfortable with himself as he is with his music, evolving into a spiritual, thoughtful artist. His running commentary provided useful background to the group's peerless performance. We left the theater with the feeling that we truly had experienced unique time with an American music master.

Very nice show! He reflected on his life and career that included a few poems he wrote that related to many of the songs he sung. He can not reach his high notes any longer but didn't try. He can still sing quite well even if it isn't as well as he used to. Very touching night and well worth it!

The 2018 Show of Art Garfunkel features an extensive reading from his 2017 autobiography "What Is It All But Luminous Notes From An Underground Man." The audience is treated to a amazing reading punctured with additional anecdotes and singing that gives fans of Art the full picture of him as a man and artist. The verdict is that Art acquits himself brilliantly and comes across as incredibly kind, decent and warm. He seems uninterested in celebrity and more interested in his humanity and how he relates to others. He would be someone who'd you'd not mind meeting on the street-just a really good dude. I'd highly recommend this show to any fan of Art's or Simon and Garfunkel.

I've been blessed to see Simon and Garfunkel together once. This was my third time seeing Art Garfunkel, and will see Paul Simon for the third time later this month. They put on such different shows: Paul full of flash and energy, Artie more beautiful and introspective. I love them both, and the experiences are so worthwhile. (And yes, on Independent Bookstore Day, I went out and bought your book, Artie!) Thanks to both of them for continuing to share their gifts.

Keeping in mind that Art Garfunkel has come back from a serious vocal chord surgery a few years ago, and that he's a 76 year old man, we were amazed that he still sounds very good and can hit many of the high notes that he did 50 years ago. Between songs, he read excerpts from his recent Autobiography, which seemed to be a time filler, although interesting at times. It appeared his songs were shorter in duration than the original versions, perhaps to preserve his vocal chords. All-in-all, it was great to see and hear the legendary Art Garfunkel and he will always have a place in my heart! I recommend his concert to others keeping in mind that the expectation can't be there that he'll sound just as he did 50 years ago! Enjoy it!

I was able to see him and Paul 2 times in the early 70's back in Chicago. The Uptown Theatre is my favorite place to see music in No. California. We have been there probably around 25 times. As far as Mr. Art his voice is very good and I was surprised knowing that he had lost his voice a number of years ago. One thing that was different but very enjoyable was that he read passages from a new book and told the stories behind them. His guitar player was A+++ and his pianist was even better. His selection of songs was great and I would highly recommend seeing him in this type of format.

I ve seen over 60 shows in my lifetime... Art Garfunkel ranks in my top 3 along with Elton John and Prince. Art interacts with the crowd, people call out to him and he responds. He is engaging, funny, and sweet. He shares some of his poems and stories, and you get a huge sense of who he was growing up, his family, his childhood, his friendship with Paul, and the life he leads now. He gives credit to his fellow musicians Tab and David, and he seems to really enjoy himself on stage. Highly recommend this show! Then venue itself was just ok. Nothing special. It gets five stars for the employees and Art ;)

I love Art Garfunkel's work. He has made remarkable recovery from His vocal cord injuries, but not enough to justify the ticket prices on this tour. I admire his courage and hard work at recovery. Having had a similar injury, I know what's involved. But, it's time for Art to hang it up as a solo performer. Perhaps he could tour with his son and only sing a few of his songs in the lower end of his once amazing range.

Art Garfunkel's performance gladdened my heart, taking me back to earlier decades in my life. I saw him at the Carolina Theater in Durham two years ago in a slightly more intimate setting - just him and Tab, his guitarist; Artie's performance was magical. For Friday's performance, he had added a keyboardist/piano player and he was quite good. Perhaps I should not compare the two performances but I shall. Two years ago, Mr. G had a Q/A time - in the performance - and it felt warm and good - like talking with an old and treasured friend. Being a bit farther away from stage Friday may have lessened my feeling of closeness; nonetheless, Artie was wonderful. Some of the notes were a little ragged but the love of the songs remained. He sang a Hebrew song/prayer that he had sung as as boy of nine in his local synagogue - solo. It was breathtakingly beautiful - each note perfect - worshipful and powerful - touching God. I hope to see/hear Mr. Garfunkel again as we grow older together. I love his music. Makes me happy.

Art was accompanied by a keyboardist and a guitarist. Both were tremendous. Guitar player played as well as Paul Simon if not better. Played many Simon and Garfunkel classics. Played Scarborough Fair and For Emily Where Ever I May Find Her for instance. Two of my favorite. Recited poetry that was sometimes very good and sometimes ok. If you are a fan and have a chance to go see the show I highly recommend going.

As a HUGE S&G fan, I was excited to see Art Garfunkel. I went into the night knowing all of his vocal problems and did not expect to hear perfect renditions of classic songs. But the evening started off with the schilling of his book, ok, I can deal with that. Then he announced that this show will be 2/3 songs, and 1/3 stories and poems. Hmmmm, ok. He did sing some classics like Bridge, Kathy's Song, the Boxer mixed with some entertaining stories and some poetry. I was more outraged that he could sing a Hebrew hymn and NOT! ONE! NOTE! of All I Know..... He just stood there while his pianist played the song. My favorite song of his, and he didn't even attempt it. Disappointed.

DURING THIS PERFORMANCE ART HAD A COLD AND WAS CONSTANTLY TAKING OUT HIS HANDKERCHIEF TO BLOW HIS NOSE. VERY UN PROFESSIONAL. THE CONCERT WAS MAINLY A PLUG FOR HIS NEW BOOK. UNLESS IT'S A LECTURE, YOU DON'T BRING OUT A BOOK UPON ENTERING THE STAGE AND IMMEDIATELY STATE "THIS IS MY NEW BOOK....." AND THEN TO INCORPORATE HALF OF THE SHOW IN TALK FROM THE BOOK. HE WAS GRUMPY WHEN TWO EMOTIONAL PATRONS IN THE AUDIENCE SHOUTED A COMMENT OF EXCITEMENT TOWARDS HIM. HIS FIRST REACTION WAS TO BLOW AWAY THE PATRON WITH INDIFFERENCE AND THE SECOND PATRON RECEIVED A LOOK OF FRUSTRATION FROM ART. SOMEONE THAT STRICTLY RELIES ON NOSTALGIA TO BRING AN AUDIENCE SINCE HE CAN NO LONGER ADEQUATELY PERFORM SHOULD BE GRATEFUL THAT EVEN ONE PATRON BOUGHT A TICKET AND THEN HAVING NO TOLERANCE FOR HIS AUDIENCE. I CAN UNDERSTAND THE DESIRE TO LIMIT USAGE OF CELLPHONES IN ANY CAPACITY IN THE AUDIENCE BUT TO REPEAT OVER AND OVER THE RULES AND REGULATIONS WITH THREATS OF BEING REMOVED FROM THE AUDIENCE IS OVERBOARD. I FELT LIKE A CHILD IN SCHOOL BEING WARNED NOT TO DO SOMETHING. ONCE IS ENOUGH. NOT OVER AND OVER AND ALSO BEING GIVEN OUT A WRITTEN WARNING UPON ENTERING THE AUDITORIUM. ENTERTAINING? I SHOULD HAVE FOLLOWED MY COMMON SENSE AND NOT BOUGHT THE TICKET. IF YOU ARE CONSIDERING GOING TO SEE HIM, READ THE OTHER REVIEWS AND THE VAST MAJORITY DISLIKED ART AT THIS STAGE. DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME AND MONEY. IT'S NOT WORTH IT. HIS TIME, AS PAUL SIMON'S, IS DONE.

I HAVE FOLLOWED SIMON & GARFUNKLE SINCE 1966, A YEAR BEFORE ENTERING HIGH SCHOOL. ONCE THEY PARTED WAYS, I CONTINUED FOLLOWING THEIR RESPECTIVE MUSICAL CAREERS EACH IN THEIR OWN CAPACITY. I ADMIRE THEIR MUSICAL ABILITIES AND RESPECT THEM EACH AS MUSIC ICONS OF MY GENERATION. I FOUND ART'S VOICE BETTER THAN WHAT I WOULD HAVE EXPECTED OF HIM AT THIS AGE. HE DID SEEM A BIT GRUMPY WHEN TWO EMOTIONAL PATRONS IN THE AUDIENCE SHOUTED A COMMENT OF EXCITEMENT. HIS FIRST REACTION WAS TO BLOW AWAY THE PATRON WITH INDIFFERENCE AND THE SECOND PATRON RECEIVED A LOOK OF FRUSTRATION FROM ART. YES, HE IS. GOOD STORY TELLER. SINGER? STILL ENOUGH TO HAVE NOSTALGIA MEMORIES. GRUMPY OLD MAN? DEFINITELY. WON'T BE SEEING HIM AGAIN. RATHER KEEP MY ALBUM MEMORIES.

I have been a faithful fan of Art Garfunkel from the breakaway from Paul Simon. Both are genius in their own way. Although Art may not hit all the notes as strongly as in the past, he still has a wonderful voice and is worthy of great respect and admiration for getting on the stage given his voice is not as strong as in the past. The Buckhead Theatre was a great venue for Art and was intimate and the sound was great.

I was front row and about 6 feet away from Artie! The concert got off to a late start, not sure why though. At about 8:15pm Tab Laven walks out on stage to applause, Artie immediately follows him. Artie started the show with April Come She Will, followed by The Boxer. He was in a great mood and playful and funny and snarky. At one point a couple came in late and he said, Go ahead find your seats but we re not doing The Boxer again. Everyone laughed. He only did part of A Heart In New York and then immediately went into All I Know and did all of that song. He mentioned many times how happy he was to be there and a few times he mentioned how happy he was that the theater was sold out. There was a lot of love in that theater last nite. Artie was loving the audience and they were loving him. It was great. He looked great too, low rise black skinny jeans, a white button shirt, vest and a purple tie. The black low rise skinny jeans looked better from the front than the back. There was one confusing moment. I don t know what he heard or saw or what was going through his mind but he said, Do I hear a little puppy? Oh puppy don t do Bridge Over Troubled Water. I have no idea what that was about and the rest of the audience seemed just as confused. He said that his autobiography should be out by autumn of 2017. After Scarborough Fair he was talking about recording it and said the first thing they did was put down the guitar track and he said Paul Simon s playing was pretty much as good as Tab s! I have to say Tab s guitar playing was excellent. It totally made the show. The highlight of the concert for me was 99 Miles From LA. He didn t do that at the 2014 concert I went to. 99 Miles From LA is my favorite Artie song and its the one that first got me interested in him. I was also very pleased when he did For Emily Whenever I May Find Her. There are just some songs you want to hear live and that is one of them. I could have done without Kathy s Song. I have never liked that song. At one point after talking about singing in the synagogue as a child he sang Vee Mah Lay and it was the most beautiful thing to come out of his mouth. As usual he only did part of Bridge Over Troubled Water. He received a standing ovation after that and seemed very pleased with it! I thought the show was over after that because he and Tab disappeared from the stage, but a few seconds later they reappeared and did Now I Lay Me Down which was very sweet. At the end of the show he took his bows and blew a kiss to the audience. He also put his arms out and kind of encircled the audience then hugged himself as if he were hugging the audience. He then put his hand over his heart and smiled. It was really sweet.

He's even more wonderful than before. One of the best nights of my life and easily the best concert I've attended in the last thirty years. Since the 1960s his voice and his talents have been on my radio, on the piano music rack, on my stereo as I've driven, from LPs to cassettes to CDs to sound files...and finally we got to share the same room with him. We were able to exchange glances and smiles and everything, since we were in the second row of the pit. His guitarist Tab Laven was really good, and he read Art's cues perfectly. We came all the way from northeast Kansas just to hear him sing in Dallas, a city we'd never visited since we are farmers and unable to take vacations or trips like most people do. Anyway whatever you have to do to attend this concert, it will be worth it. Loved his poems and his stories about recordings and travels. His poems are good. Sadly, there was no meet-and-greet, even though we'd paid well for it. No q and a afterwords. And Bridge over Troubled Water was described as a vocal/guitar work in progress: I believe we only heard the first verse before they faded it out. But despite those (to me) small disappointments, I LOVED the evening. You can still hear the young man in his voice...and you can certainly still see the young man before you. He's still there.

Art Garfunkel is a legend, a treasure, and an unforgettable voice, and to see him in the intimate and acoustically wonderful Attucks Theatre in Norfolk, VA was an opportunity we could not pass up. Recovering from a serious vocal illness, Art was open, honest, generous and honestly, sounded wonderful, accompanied by a solo guitarist, he showcased his long and accomplished career both with that Simon guy and as a solo artist. But the high points were his sharing with the audience - his poetry, thoughts on life and love, celebrity and raising his small son. A precious and special evening.

Art came out on stage looking like he had aged a great deal since I saw him eleven years ago. He began slow and looking like his age. He then woke up and built up steam to a very good concert. There were no holiday songs. Not a one. He did some Simon and Garfunkel songs that were excelent. He did many of the songs he did since he was on his own. We called out for Second Ave. and he said "no Second Ave. tonight" Other people called out songs and he said he could pick the songs he wanted to do. He read poems from his book which pretty much went over our heads. He talked about his four year old son. We enjoyed the jokes he made and he came across as warm and connnected to the audience.

A MUST SEE for Art Garfunkel fans, or Simon & Garfunkel fans, or anyone who appreciates beautiful music. He sang all the classic S&G hits - that gave me the chills - to see and hear him singing those gorgeous songs live! He still has the sweet tenor voice. He's very personable and has a great rapport with the audience - with his humor and storytelling. He interspersed the classics with some new songs - songs he's written and classics by Billy Joel and Randy Newman. The show is still lingering in my mind. A truly magical evening.

Art Garfunkel is a giant in American Arts and Letters. A real gentleman, a talented teacher, and an all around amazing human being in a time of dehumanization and fast disappering personalism. His music and his words still leave me awestruck. At 76, his Town Hall event was truly a noble rendering and the presence of that audience truly honored him.

THIS WAS SHOW ABOUT AN EGOTISTICAL OLD MAN WHO LOST HIS VOICE 6 YEARS AGO AND ALTHOUGH HE SAYS HE GOT IT BACK , HE DIDN'T. HE READS HIS "POETRY" LIKE IT'S ROBERT FROST, IT ISN'T. HE IS ANNOYED THAT A CURTAIN IS OPEN, CLAIMS IT IS A DISTRACTION AND HE MUST CONCENTRATE, GIVEN THAT HE HAS ONLY PERFORMED THESE SONGS THOUSANDS OF TIMES. Count Basie Theater does an excellent job of booking major acts and presenting them well. It is a restored classic theater, so some amenities reflect that. Restroom facilities are certainly provided but could use an upgrade. They are building a new space adjacent to the main theater, so perhaps this will be addressed then. I know this review is more about the venue, but I will comment on the show itself. In Art Garfunkel you're seeing an icon. His voice is not what it once was, but you have to take into account the man's almost 77 and those songs don't come easy even to a young person. There was an outburst toward the end of the performance, where an audience member in the rear began yelling some incoherent reference to Art's former partner, Paul Simon. The show was stopped, and I assume security removed this person as it then went on to its conclusion with no further interruption. Kudos to the venue for handling it quickly and responsibly so that the show could go on. I will definitely return to Count Basic Theater, even though I reside some distance away. As an aside, I was disappointed by "no photos," but I'm sure this was imposed by the artist.

Seeing Art is seeing one of the greatest voices of all time. He suffered vocal paralysis and has come back, so his voice isnt what it was. But you are still seeing ART GARFUNKEL! Its fantastic. The songs are amazing. His poems are moving. Its well worth it. On a side note, poor audience members can ruin a show. Its a quiet shoe meaning its acoustic and in a small theatre. That doesn't make it acceptable to yell things out so Art heard you. Especially about Paul Simon. Its disrespectful to him. I went to see Art. If that isnt good enough for you. Stay home and certainly dont disrespect him by yelling about it at the show.

Art was trying to sell his book of poems He sang a song read a poem sang another song read another poem. For those of us who came to hear him sing it was a little disappointing.

While Art did a nice job, he complained multiple times about the incessant opening and closing rear doors. I don't blame him. Add to that shouts directed to Art from disgusting audience members, and it made for a 60% experience :( I was disappointed, as we're others, at the audience & usher behavior - very sad & unfortunate.

Arrived at the show at 8:06 for the 8pm start time. Torrential rains in NJ that day made for a lot of traffic. Upon arrival we were informed that Art Garfunkel would not be allowing anyone who was late into the show until after the third song. You re kidding right? We listened from the hallway via monitors to Bridge over Troubled Waters and The Boxer. The poor quality of his voice coupled with his arrogant rules told us it was time to leave. About 40 other ticket holders followed suit. Just a bad experience all around.

His voice is nowhere near what it was. His upper register is really limited. However, still enjoyed the show. In the past when I've seen him, he would just sing and not really interact with the audience. Here, he told stories that gave context to his performance. Hearing him now is a different experience than hearing him years ago, simultaneously sad because of his deteriorated voice, but uplifting because he really "owns" the songs. His poetry recitation was, to me, surprisingly good. I think he's a decent poety.

Probably best to stay at home and listen to some Art Garfunkel records that captured his beautiful voice - when he still had it. He was really struggling and a sad portrait of a man who can't let go of performance. i was able to survive the concert because the keyboardist and the guitarist who provided the music were exquisite!!!!

There was no energy in Garfunkel's singing. He read poetry between songs. He played two 35 minute sets - very short. Packed house. Not worth the price!

Why would you charge so much money for a concert that had so little. The singing was terrible, and taking a break after four songs, unacceptable. terrible concert

Very short show. Maybe 70 actual minutes on stage and about half of it reading dribble. Many of the songs were not familiar. Sang only a few classics. Still has a sweet voice, but it's not what it used to be. Tried to sound liked he really wanted to perform, but failed miserably. Biggest fail was singing Now I Lay Me Down To Sleep as his encore. Only positive was he spoke nicely about his former partner.

Many in the audience had grown up from teens to seniors listening to Art Garfunkel, both alone and with Paul Simon. We were not sure what would happen, but we agreed afterward that he was sincere, in good voice, with good ideas, and a sharing of events and people in his life between songs. None of us is the same as we were when younger, and it was refreshing when he joked beforehand he could no longer hit some of the high notes in certain songs. No problem. He endeared himself to the audience and vice versa. His guitar and keyboard accompanists were first rate. We all had a chance to review and validate our lives together.

Garfunkel had a cold, and unfortunately, his go to accessory was a handkerchief. We were not impressed with his mixing song and poetry like readings into the performance. His upper range was not there either, and he was straining. It felt as though he was going through the motions and would have rather been home in bed with hot tea. It was way more expensive that the value received. Parking was was awful also since the attached lot was unused. The walk was unlit, and dangerous to watch you set. We had a handicap sticker and there were no safe spots or spots at all to use.

It was one of the worse concerts we have gone to. He must need the money as he was promoting his new book. His voice was off, missed a lot of notes, no where near what he used to be. It appeared that he also had a cold and couldn't perform very well. He should have cancelled the show rather than perform sick. Very disappointing. We left at intermission.

love Parker Playhouse but this was the worst concert I've seen in a while - he is arrogant and pretentious, which is funny considering he has no voice left. Can't believe I wasted my money. Wouldn't recommend to anyone.

What a tease. We went expecting to hear a HOF artist sing and spent the evening listening to him talk. Not one song, a hum of El Condor Pasa was all we got, that and a book. Ticketmaster should have billed this as a lecture, as it was not the concert we (and the majority of the audience) expected. Most disappointing.

Interestingly snotty-- some of his remarks were condescending and some were windows into his creativity. His book is boring--stream of consciousness stuff.

There were 2 comfy looking chairs on the stage. Art sat in one and the interviewer - Nancy Guppy sat in the other. Nancy asked Art questions and he answered them and told stories about his life and phlosophies. It was very entertaining. There was also a Q&A. Nancy did a super job as the moderator She asked some good questions and kept a good flow. It was a good time - even without hearing Art's angelic singing - though it would have been nice to hear at least one song..

I initially thought this was a concert and was looking forward to seeing Art sing again. Later I saw it was an interview which was also fine. I liked listening to him and Nancy Guppy was good too ! Taking questions from the audience was a nice touch. Overall, I had a very nice time and hope that more events like this take place.

It wasn't what I expected. There was no singing. It was more of a talk show where he spoke about his life (and his book which is about his life) with Seattle Art Show host Nancy Guppy asking questions. It was nice to actually get to know more about him. Honestly, I have albums I can listen to at home for the music, but it's the first time I've learned about the man.

Seeing Art Garfunkle in person was an amazing experience. I was transported back to a time when I listened to Simon and Garfunkle in the 1970's. He was so personable -- just as I had imagined. In addition to his amazing voice, he spoke about the writing of the songs, growing up with Paul Simon and his poetry. The only complaint that I had was that the venue let people in after the concert began and that was disruptive.

Either Art' had a cold or his voice was showing the ravages of age, or both. He could not hit the high notes. Also, he should have had someone to sing the harmony, absent this, the sound was one-dimensional. On a positive note, his guitarist was superb. I only heard him sing one song from his second solo album. Perhaps he should have sung a few more of his own compositions, so that the concert was not simply hit songs from over 50 years ago. The crowd was very appreciative, even giving him a standing ovation. When the concert was over and the audience filed out, I could see that they were all Baby Boomers, as am I. It was sad to see them all living in the past.

Art Garfunkel gave a performance long to be remembered. He intertwined material from Simon & Garfunkel, his own solo recordings, along with personal poetry and reflections of his life, decades, in music. His performance was personal and intimate, displaying his love of the art of music and live performance. No back up singers, with only a single acoustic guitarist and a piano / synthesizer, his voice filled the room. The audience responded with loud applause, cheers, singing along at times, and some tears as we were taken on a woven tapestry through time and our own lives remembering where we were when we first heard a certain tune. Thank you, Art, for continuing to give of yourself and share your life with us.

This show was at the new Graton Casino concert venue. Great setting for Art and a piano player and guitarist. If you loved Simon and Garfunkel you would love this show..no second vocalist..that would have made it even better. Art is a gentle soul and the appreciative audience was quiet in a way that really supported this understated show. You gotta catch these shows when they come around if you want one more dose of the history of the sixties.

Mr Garfunkels voice was a little off this night, as compared to last years show in LA, but it picked up by halfway through. What wasn't there in clarity was there in sincerity in his desire to share his love and passion of music. It felt warm and intimate. He also impressed me with his restrain to not talk about political issues when SO MANY artists lately have been too willing to discuss their political views when it wasn't what i paid to hear. I really have to say he is a smart man for that. .. i found myself admiring him more after this show. oh.. his performance of Kathy's song made me weep. :)
