The Chicago Jazz Philharmonic is a national treasure! Its unique blend of jazz and classical, called "third stream," is not only pleasing to the ear, but blazing new trails in music history. Amid the new compositions and arrangements were two salutes to the founders of this movement, George Gershwin and Aaron Copland. Even with a 55-piece symphony, Orbert Davis, the musical director and conductor, proves that third stream "swings!"

Amazing show packed with virtuosity, style, and swing. Hard to even describe the unique blend of jazz, classical, and more. Orbert Davis' compositions are rich and evocative. So much talent on that stage! The best musicians in the city, coming together to play in ways that no other assemblage can. Here's to another 10 years!!!

I really enjoyed the concert once it got started. The preconcert party was a zoo. I would like to have seen the entire concert but had to leave to catch the train. Too bad!! Our usher was great trying to get everyone seated as fast a possible and bringing programs to us when he had run out.

Maestro Davis, the Jazz Philharmonic, Joan, Dee, Jackie and Bobbi - what can I say! One of the most delightful evenings we've spent in quite a while. I found myself wishing more from each of the ladies and the orchestra. Simply Great!!!!

The show was uneven. Billed as a birthday celebration for Ella Fitzgerald, the first 1/2hr of the show featured Mr. Davis' original compositions which featured no singing. The featured singers were all delightful. Too bad there wasn't time to hear more of Ella's hits.

Orbert Davis' tribute to Ella Fitzgerald was fantastic. All the standards of Ella's repertoire were there but redone to make them his and the philharmonic's own. That's not to mention that the 4 singers outdid themselves. Each had a unique spin on the music and performed in their own way but with an Ella influence. I thoroughly enjoyed this concert!

The Chicago Jazz Philharmonic is a real feather in Chicago's cultural hat. This organization clearly loves their work and it is reflected in the joyful event they put on March 31st. The synchronizing of the orchestra to historic films of Ella Fitzgerald in song was truly a marvel to experience.

We thoroughly enjoyed the Chicago Jazz Philharmonic: Through Ella's Eyes. The music was amazing, so creative and inspiring to listen to. The photo tribute to Ellc along with the music accompaniment was perfect. Seeing the young children who benefit from the educational component of the your work was great to see. The four vocalist were also fantastic. It was an all around great evening. Need I say more. Bravo!!!

Ella was an amazing person as well as an entertainer, the program captured it all. So glad we were there. My only wish would be for more of the audience to respect the "no cameras" rule; the flashes and the brightly lite screens popping up all over are very distracting to those of us who are intent on the program; surely it must be distracting to the performers as well. I wish the ushers could explain to people that phone cameras are "cameras" too......

Each singer sang the song in their style, but the song had been sung by Ella. No one should have been expected to "sound" like Ella. When you present in your tribute recordings of the person that you are honoring, you ask for disaster because people in the audience can not help but compare each singer. Even critics can not help but compare. I felt that Orbert achieved his goal...a wonderful , creative tribute to the memory of Ella Fitzgerald. All singers did their thing. It is you prerogative to chose the one or ones you liked the best. Modern technology made the show creative( playing along with recording of singer) How about all the productions of "The Wiz" Each production Has had a fantastic cast and great singers!!

What an amazing, wonderful concert! I knew the music would be good because it's Ella and the CJP. What I didn't expect was what a great show that was put on. From the personality & style of the conductor to the stage presence of the singers, it was fun, energetic and engaging. Almost like they were putting on a show for their friends.
