Across the board the cast was top flight and the production very professional. Definitely Broadway caliber. Only criticism is of the sound quality at the Theater. Don't get me wrong, it's a beautiful structure and comfortable with what appear to be great sightlines throughout. But, during this show it was difficulkt at times (esp. before the intermission) to clearly hear the cast and understand what they were saying/singing. I have to attirbute that more to the acoustics then to the cast.

I just wish the Bay Area run of the show was longer with more dates so I could've seen Matilda the Musical twice! The entire cast was incredible but the talent of the child actors exceeded expectations!

This is the best show I have seen in a long time. It was a nice mixture of music and comedy. The children were very professional and i enjoyed watching them throughout the whole performance. The adults were cast well too. all in all I had the best time on Sunday afternoon seeing Matilda at the Shubert in New Haven.

With a focus on negative behavior for children and by their main caretaker (the headmistress), this is not a play most children would enjoy or should even see. Some youngsters left the play in disgust and that was totally understandable.

This was one of the worst plays my daughter and I have ever attended. I would not advise anyone going to bring children under 15 years old. I'm afraid children younger than that will become afraid to attend school . This play I believed showed parental abuse, educational abuse and total emotional abuse.

We were disappointed in not being able to decipher what the children were saying when they sang, the songs were good but we did not know what they were saying. This play is definitely geared to children and there were many attending, so I would recommend anyone with children seeing it. I saw quite a few people leaving during intermission, and they were elderly and without children with them. We also left during intermission, but only because of not hearing a lot of the words. I thought the cast was fantastic and the children very talented and vibrant. A great cast.

My husband and I enjoyed this play: the music, the actors, the singers, and the children were all endearing and fun. I definitely recommend it. Since we were not familiar with the music, we missed a lot of the lyrics. I recommend becoming familiar with the score first before you see it.

The show is very entertaining and the music and actors, very good. The young girl(s) who play Matilda are beyond talented and soooo young to have those lungs on them! Sound at the Shubert can always be louder so those up top can hear clearly, especially when trying to listen to British accents.

We pretty much watched the entire show with huge smiles on our faces. So well-done! If you can possibly get to this show when it comes through your neighborhood, do it! So worth it, especially if you have youngsters, boys OR girls, who have an interest in theatre! Such positive messages too, like standing up for yourself and others when bullied, finding strength and confidence within yourself...I could go on and on. LOVED IT!

I loved the movie and was so excited when the play came out. I eagerly purchased ticket during my Boston vacation and expected Matilda to be the highlight of my trip. Boy was I wrong! The first half was terrible making me want to leave during intermission but fortunately I toughed it out and stayed for the second half praying and hoping it would somehow get better. Luckily it did have a few good scenes in the 2nd half but not enough to recommend someone else to go see it. The girl who played Matilda was very good as well as the guy who played Ms. Trunchbull. Besides that there wasn't much to recommend. The children kept singing the same annoying songs throughout the entire show. The "funny parts" we're not very funny. The best part of the show is when the fat kid dances and confetti falls from the ceiling. Besides that it was not very impressive. Made for children so if you have kids go. If you are an adult with no children please save your money!

My 2 granddaughters have repeatedly enjoyed this movie over the years so I did not hesitate to get our tickets pre sale. Just entering the Boston Opera House literally set the stage for the special event. The sets were awesome, esp loved the classroom scenes and the swings.Miss Trunchbull instilled fear true to the movie. Quite a "vision " she was ! Portrayal of Matilda's parents was equally on point. Of course Miss Honey was sweet as can bee (pun intended) and Matilda stole the show. The music was all new to us but was fun .At times it was difficult to make out the words in the songs but there was a screen with lit up subtitles that was hugely helpful.Overall this was a delightful production with quality cast and set.

This show was unbelievably good. We already love Tim Minchin's music; his first musical was nothing short of outstanding. There's a reason why this show is winning tons of awards and has such staying power - the music, lyrics, direction, dialogue, lighting, costuming, sets, choreography, and performers all come together in one of the best shows I've seen in a long time. I feel like this musical is so underrated here in the states. Go see it wherever you can!

Amazing talent and set. We enjoyed it but were frustrated that the set blocked our view of several things that happened stage left because we were sitting on the side! It wasn't the theater but the set that blocked our view. We think ditto for the other side too. Otherwise, beautiful!

We had never heard of the musical, saw it had acclaim, tried even listening to the songs beforehand and didn't quite like it, but decided to give it a shot anyways since we loved the movie so much (we did know it was based on a book, just had never read it). This. Was. AMAZING. Officially one of our favorite musicals we have ever seen (and we've seen a few). :) AND - we absolutely ADORE the soundtrack. Only thing that always kills me about musicals is if you like the cast you saw more than the soundtrack, you cannot hear them again as they don't sell recordings of the night, which really sucks :(

We did not care for the show. The music was unmemorable, the dialogue harsher than the movie and considerably less funny. Matilda's powers did not manifest effectively, and there were not many special affects, though plenty of strobe lights. The young lady who played the lead was very, very good (alternating leads depending on the performance) esp given what she had to work with, the adult performers were fair at best.

A friend recommended Matilda to me. I was reluctant to see it, because I thought it was a typical children's show with silly comedy (I don't have children). However, I changed my mind when my friend described it briefly to me. It really was so much more than I expected. It's such a great story with lots of twists and turns. It was tender, sad, funny and beautiful. I highly recommend it -- even if you don't have children.

I think the show was amazing it had plenty of funny moments even though the first part of it felt slow. Me and my wife did feel bad for a elderly couple that was with us in our box seats. They asked us if we could understand what the actors and actresses were saying. During the intermission I figured I'd see if what they were saying was accurate but unfortunately the older couple never came back they looked frustrated. The characters seemed to use a abnormally high pitched voice and when it's projected into the theater with its acoustics and speakers it almost is always lost. We enjoyed the second half like I said the first half was whatever.

Great show and worth taking your children.only drawback at Broward Performing Arts Center coming from Miami was that A1A was traffic stopped and I had to turnaround and go to I 95, reduced to three lanes form Hallandale Beach and exit ramp on Broward Blvd, reduced to one lane. I left 1 1/2 hours ahead and it took two hours to make it to the theater. I missed the opening of the play which was really sad. Discourages one from attending performances at that theater.

I took my mother and two daughters to Matilda on Thursday night. The show was really visually fun and entertaining. I thought, at times, it was difficult to understand what they were saying and singing. I'm not sure if this was due to the acoustics or the fast paced lyrics. The last song of Revolting Children was really tough to understand. The children were really great, however, and we overall enjoyed the show.

We didn't know anything about this show prior to attending. We were not familiar with the book or movie. We went because our son who lives in NYC recommended it. We were surprised by how much we enjoyed what we imagined was a children's show. It was a fun show for all ages. We were most impressed with the choreography. Some of the best we've ever seen, very creative. The sets, costumes and lighting were also extremely impressive. The acting was also top notch, although the children were sometimes difficult to understand. They could use some additional training in diction. Diction is so important when using microphones. We probably missed about 1/3 of the dialog of the lead child actress, playing Matilda. Still, we were able to follow the story line, and the actress playing Matilda gave an endearing performance. Overall, it was quite enjoyable.

As a fan of both the book and the movie (for different reasons, of course), I was so looking forward to this musical. But...it didn't seem to capture the essence of either. Very little about Matilda's magic, little focus on the friendship between Matilda and Miss Honey, and worst of all...less Trunchbull! It was all fluff. The first act dragged, and I really didn't enjoy the show until halfway through the second act. And dear god...clocking in at more than 2 and half hours...way WAY too long. The musical numbers were fine, I just didn't feel like they added much in the way of story telling. They could have been written better to move the story along. The casting was excellent though

Sadly, this was extremely underwhelming for my wife and me. We had been looking forward to it. With the higher-pitched voices of the kids, the microphones were not adjusted very well so the sound was tinny and echoed to a point that it was incredibly difficult to understand the words, especially when the chorus sang in unison. The adults were attempting accents and also had trouble with enunciation, so they, too, were difficult to understand. Certainly there was a lot of activity and color on the stage which probably makes the show enjoyable for children, but we didn't go just for just a visual show. I can't speak to the second half. It seemed senseless to stay so we left at intermission, which I've never done with any other show.

Jenna Wier, who played Matilda, was absolutely awesome! How an eleven year old young lady can memoriize so many lines and be right on cue is incredible! Stephen Diaz was also brilliant, as was the rest of the cast. The problem I had was, it was hard to understand a lot of the verbiage, the words just weren't clear. I wasn't the only one, I had several friends sitting in various areas from Orchestra row 11, middle seats, all the way to the top balcony. That was disappointing. Personally, I would like to see the show again to catch what I missed, if I thought it would be any clearer, the acting was that good.

My 8 year old son and I had a special date to go see Matilda. The performance was amazing and kept his attention the entire time. It made me laugh and cry. Highly recommended!!

If you didn't know the story, you would be lost. I thought it was a bit choppy. I understand the producer would like to tell the entire story but there was just too many components that will just stacked on top of each other.

The set was good. A little hard to clearly understand some words the character Matilda was saying. Also, the play seemed to be geared more towards adults and not young children. The other 4 adults with me thought the same.

I grew up with the book and movie Matilda, so seeing her on the stage made me the happiest girl alive. The actors were perfect, the direction was perfect, the choreography was perfect, everything was perfect!

Was a bit hard to pick up lyrics at times. (I'm told my review is too short so I added this sentence.)

I thought there were some good scenes and the person that played the principal Mrs. Trenchbull was excellent!!! Just very different than the movie and numerous times it was difficult to hear the words to the songs and when Matilda and the other character were saying the lines together, it was very difficult to understand them.

Matilada at the Civic theatre was filled with scenes in which lighting, the stage, and actors combined to make dream-like or otherwise surreal settings over the course of the musical. While I don't particularly listen for the music in most shows I go to in the Theatre, I did appreciate the repeated music that related to recurring themes though. This handful of songs was nice enough to me and memorable.

This is such an amazing play! Just wish I could have heard the words! I know 6 people who have attended, and we all had the same comment - couldn't understand the dialogue. I don't know if it was the kids' high voices, the accents, or the sound system. How frustrating to not hear all the wonderful words in this play. But the effects and the music are great!

We went to see Matilda in San Diego on their opening night. We started laughing right from the beginning. The characters were well played and the dancing and singing were fabulous. We (all 7 of us) absolutely loved the show and would recommend it to everyone.

Catchy intelligently written songs are upbeat and inspiring for both kids and adults. The kid actors are incredibly talented and they really put on a show. Having been to the one on Broadway, the tour version is just as good and equally unforgettable, however I was just a bit disappointed how they modified some words to have more of an american accent, perhaps so the audience could understand it easier? The show is appropriate for all ages (the show states kids 6 and up). There are two or three small scenes with loud noises (and lasers) that could make some young kids scared, if they get scared easily. These scenes are usually followed up by the audience laughing, so even if you kids gets scared easily, they will probably be ok.

I went with 3 others and we left at intermission. HORRIBLE. some characters did well in their rolls (Trunchbull & Matilda). But Matilda is not a musical, so we couldn't follow the songs. The play started with a bizarre scene having nothing to do with the real Matilda. Miss honey, the parents, and brother were all so silly. We were so confused and really did not enjoy it at all.

Me & the group I went (ages 17-44) with were very disappointed. The acting & singing weren't the issue, it was the story line itself...and also the 'look' of the main characters. This musical failed to deliver any true aspects of the movie & we all wanted to leave 1/2 way through....
