Elton - The Early Years

I was so excited to see this band perform the entire album of Goodbye Yellow Brick Road in celebration of the album's 45th Anniversary and they did not disappoint. They literally rocked it out of the park and everything from the costumes, which were handmade by Kenny, to the vocals and the band's performance was spot on. It was a high energy show and lots of fun and Kenny is so like Elton during the period that they were portraying, that there were times that I forgot that this was a tribute band and not the real thing. It's sad that some people gave poor reviews based solely on the fact that they didn't pay attention to what they were paying to see. The band's name is Elton - The Early Years, but it was clearly advertised by both the venue and the band that this was a show focused exclusively on the 45th Anniversary Celebration of the Goodbye Yellow Brick Road album and when a band is hired to perform a specific album, they are bound by contract to perform only what the venue hired them to do. I highly recommend this band and I never grow tired of seeing them perform as there are always new surprises and a variety of Elton's greatest hits added to their repertoire when they are not contracted to do a specific album.

Elton the early years is always a fantastic show. Our family and friends look forward to it every year, and I think it's been 7-8 years straight. To hear the iconic Yellow Brick Road album complete was simply fantastic! A few more hits at the end of the show was icing on the cake. EJ outfits always stellar every year, this was no exception. Love these shows, a summer tradition for us.

I read some reviews complaining that Kenny Metcalf and The Early Years Band only played the Goodbye Yellow Brick Road album in its entirety at this show. Well yeah, no kidding! That's how the show was advertised and that's why I was excited to see it. Getting to hear rarities like "I've Seen That Music Too" and "Roy Rogers" live was a real treat. I've seen this band many times and I think they are the best Elton John tribute ever. Kenny's attention to detail in costuming, music and presentation is incredible. This was a special celebration of the 45th anniversary of the album. To be honest, if you don't know and love that album, you are not really an Elton John fan anyway. I will see Kenny Metcalf every chance I get.

Elton the Early Years is the closest thing to the real Elton. Between outfits, showmanship, and most of all the best performers you will see. They always give 100% if not more. Excellent job on the whole Yellow Brick Road album which they were hired to do. Bummer that some people don't pay attentin to what the buy then complain.

I loved it. Sang every song! If you're an Elton fan you will like it.

I bought 20 tickets for my friends, family & clients. Everyone was excited to see the show and hear the entire Goodbye Yellow Brick Road performed LIVE. This band did not disappoint. Everything was fantastic, from the band to the costumes. I have read some of the other reviews about sound at the venue and frankly I m shocked. At our seats (center section near the back of the building) it was excellent. We spoke to the band after the show and were told this wasn t their regular repertoire. The fair requested the album be performed in its entirety. Yes, it would have been nice to hear more of Elton John s hits but the show was highly entertaining. We can t wait to see this band again when they perform their normal show. If they are back at the fair next year we will be there.

Kenny and his band are PERFECTIONISTS! From Elton's zany costumes to every single note of the music, they absolutely nail it. He sounds like Elton did in the 70's.

We bought tickets for Elton the early years and we got Yellow Brick Road. Almost all of the songs were 3rd rate songs, only 2 or 3 first rate songs. I would have liked to hear Tiny Dancer, Levon,Don't let the sun go down, Etc. Could have been soooo much better. The place was half empty for the encor. Too bad.

This band was really great! They started out with great audience participation with popular tunes being played. Unfortunately, the band had chosen to perform songs from just one album of Elton John. Well, as everyone knows, there are great songs and really boring songs on a single album. So, most of the songs were unknown and, therefore, boring to most of the audience, at least, to many, as people left early. The band sounded so good, so we were sooooooo disappointed they did not play the "great songs" of Elton John. I would recommend the band ONLY if they played Elton's greatest hits and not unknown (at least to most people) songs.

Loved the show. It was great hearing the Good by yellow brick road album from start to finish. Maybe captain fantastic next time ? This band is a must see

Fair was good. Pricey as always. Very disappointed in EJ tribute concert. The artist was good, but only did songs from the Yelliw Brick Road. Elton John had so many great songs from the Early Years , we heard Abut 5. Many people left during the concert, as did we. We have been to a tribute band at the fair every year for about 10 years, this is the first time we ever left early.

Not what I expected. From where I sat the sound seemed off. Loud and muffled. Something was off, not right, no clarity. I was expecting more early year hits. Nearly every song was from "The Yellow Brick Road" album. Compared to other concerts I've attended in the Hanger this one was disappointing. I personally will not attend another by this group, but I do look forward to more concerts at the OC Fair. Though I hope someone checks the sound system and gets it right.

I expected to hear more hits from the Elton John tribute concert, but he announced he was playing just tunes from his Goodbye Yellow Brick Road album. The tour did not advertise this fact, rather it called the tour, Elton, the early years. The show started with about 4 well known hit songs that were quite good, then moved on to another 4 or 5 songs I'd never heard and were not memorable. Next time, stick to the hits, that's what we expect when seeing a tribute band. We left after an hour so I'm sure he returned to more hit songs but by that point I had lost interest.

I had high hopes this would be a memorable concert and it was for the wrong reasons. It was held in the Hanger at the OC Fair. I will never go there for a concert again. The volume was ear splitting. Those who didn t pay and watched from outside the venue had the better seats. For an unknown and ridiculous reason the group was hired to only play the songs from the Yellow Brick Road album. When the see a tribute band you want nothing but greatest hits. People were yelling at them to play songs they knew but they stuck to the album songs. Many left early as so did we. Never again.

GREAT PERFORMANCE............GREAT SOUNDING PERFORMER....AND LOVED HIS ACTING ALONG WITH THE BAND............WOULD GO AND SEE HIM PLAY AGAIN !!!

It was a very good and entertaining show. I don't know much of Elton's music but still really enjoyed the performance.
