Soundgarden

Hailed as grunge innovators, Soundgarden redefined rock music for a generation. In the 80s and 90s, the band’s mesmerising soundscapes and compelling lyrics seduced audiences hungry for originality. It was a sound rooted deeply within the wild landscape of the Pacific North West. Over a year in the making, Soundgarden’s newest  album ‘King Animal’, was recorded close to their roots in Seattle and is due for release in November 2012.

I am a big fan of early 90s rock...I still listen to all the same stuff I did in college. I never got a chance to see Soundgarden back in the day, and when I heard they were coming to Tuscaloosa, I couldn't pass it up. I expected This show to be good, but it was even much better than I expected. Chris Cornell said they would definitely return to Tuscaloosa - if that would, or could, have happened, I would have definitely home to see them again. I'm just sorry I won't be able to take my son to enjoy their concert as well.

I went to see Soundgarden, which was really good, but Papa Roach outdid all the bands in regards to crowd involvement. I'm a definite fan now and will do my best to see them any time they're close.

Saw them back when in Detroit...one of the best shows I've been to! Can't wait to see them this time around. Chris has developed his amazing voice so much sense then. Not to mention, he is my rock & roll fantasy! I hope some day to be his chef at his restaurant in Paris!

I haven't seen Soundgarden since '96 and now thankfully they are back to show these punk a$$ lil tween bands how it's done. I was 18 yrs old and here I am almost 33yrs old and I'm just as excited as I was then. And Chris Cornell hasn't lost his gift, I can't wait to see him on May 5th. Updates to follow. Rock on, fellow Knights of the Soundtable!

Easily one of the greatest shows I've ever been to and I've seen hundreds. SG was and is one of my all time favorite bands so seeing them after a 13 year hiatus was magical. They played for over 2 hours and 23 songs. Everything I wanted to hear and more!

My very old dream has come true when finally I could see my Beloved band; Soundgarden. I had the pleasure to see them in a very small venue. We had a great crowd with huge fans -like myself- , there was pogo, 98% male fans (myself am a female) :D, old and new hits and they came back twice! I had the chance to see them from very close. They are absolutely great LIVE. Very energetic, they sound great as always. Also; so very happy to see that there are still people out there who love and appreciate REAL music out there.. Soundgarden is very unique, they created so many amazing songs for such a long time back.. Chris is so talented, his voice is great, Kim, Matt and Ben, are all amazing. I am often wondering how could they come up with so much already and they're back.. Yes, You've BEEN AWAY TOO LONG! Thank you. LOVE SOUNDGARDEN!!!

An explosive set of classic Soundgarden songs and an even more explosive introduction to their new material live. An amazing experience to see them live in such a small venue. Their new music is truly a pick up where they left off. Amazing live.

Soundgarden looked a little rusty but got into their groove by the third song in. The concert was good but my seat was terrible - upper corner balony. I'm really not happy with my seat since I purchased it through the fan appreciation pre-sale, which was one day before sale to the public. It kinda makes you wonder how the band really feels about their registered biggest fans!!!

I have seen close to 100+ shows at the Gorge, and Soundgarden just a few, but that performance could have easily been one of the top concerts that I have ever attended at the Gorge. Chirs Cornell's voice was stellar and Kim's fret work was memerizing. The setlist was perfect. So, please come back soon with new material and a cameo performance from TotD.

Best hard rock show to hit these shores in some time. If you grew up in the northwest going to shows back in the mid to late 90's, you have probably been waiting for Soundgarden to come back for a LONG time. We fell just shy of getting to hear any new tracks from their upcoming album but they did treat us to a greatest hits show that would put most other rock bands to shame. Which just goes to show how good every other band at this show are. No band completely outshone the others. It was more of a show of force from a group of people who are all on the same side. Personal highlights include hearing a near acapella version of Sloop John B from the Meat Puppets, getting to see Mastodon in a venue bigger than a club and in the daylight, laughing at Josh Homme's game show host banter with the crowd and Chris Cornell leading a wordless call and response while sneakily stretching out his vocal chords for the unassailable peaks of Behind the Wheel. Best back to back Gorge lineup since Pearl Jam with Neil Young and Booker T and the MGs in the 90's and Brian Wilson opening for Paul Simon nearly a decade later. If they didn't record this I will never forgive them :)

This was my first time at the Gorge for a concert and I was completely blown away!!! The venue is absolutely gorgeous and to see Soundgarden's reunion show there was just about the best concert experience ever! My friend and I were on the edge of the lawn pretty much in the middle with a beautiful view (with some exceptions of some drunk people dancing around in front of us)! I would totally recommend this venue to anyone and I hope to go there again in the near future!!! Thank you Soundgarden!!!

I saw them twice last summer in Chicago, and I was glad I was there, but the shows didn't quite hit the button I was hoping for. It seemed like Chris Cornell and Soundgarden were two separate entities coming together for the sake of nostalgia, and it didn't quite mesh. Don't get me wrong, I love them both. I've been a Soundgarden fan from the beginning, and I've followed CC's career ever since, catching every tour he's done at least once. But Saturday night's show at the Gorge was different. They are once again a cohesive, fully formed band, and they rocked the house like no one else can. During deep cuts like Hunted Down and Beyond the Wheel, I thought I was 25 again (I'm not), and the kids loved Black Hole Sun. I'll continue to attend every concert Chris Cornell plays in my area, but I hope some of them are with Soundgarden. These guys aren't done.

What a kick ass show! Chris and the gang killed it! Played for about 2 hrs 15min with hardly any talking in between songs. It was just straight up music, no hype, blowing smoke, or story telling. They played all of the old great stuff: outshined, rusty cage, Jesus Christ pose, Spoonman, fell on black days, fresh tendrils, 4th of July (one of the best songs of the night; that intro is just wicked), the day I tried to live, black hole sun, pretty noose, you get the picture. They did an encore which consisted of two songs I didn't recognize, possibly new? The second one was an extended version lasting about 20 minutes. It was a lot of instrumental with some vocals. Kim and Ben went nuts on this song laying down some serious heart pumping, ass kicking rifs. An amazing show, and at the gorge. Pretty hard to beat.

Great show! I've seen the boys a number of times back in the day - @ the Pine Street in Portland, '92 Lolapolooza, Fox Theater etc.- and this is the best I've seen or heard them do. Cornell was putting in the effort to hit the highs and they were definitely on the ball and digging playing.

Short and sweet... The show was amazing. Over 2 hours of great songs and hits that brought me back to some of the funnest times in my life. They rocked every song. I heard a couple flaws that were quickly corrected on the fly without much notice otherwise. I could have done without laying the guitar on the speaker with feedback blaring at the crowd while the crowd begged for more. It really hurt my ears!! Otherwise, I highly recommend this show to anyone who was, is or are just starting to become Soundgarden fans!!!!

The sound for this show was inaudible. The accommodations at the Forum are wretched. No video screens or visuals for an inappropriately hefty priced ticket.. Soundgarden was either badly sound checked or unrehearsed. In any event the band seemed off. Waited too long to see sloppy performance! The set list had an odd track order! The played all the hits but I never got into a groove and lost interest in this poor performance, I actually fell asleep during the show.

The sound was OK. Most people know that the sound at the Forum is pretty bad. This one wasn't too bad. I had excellent seats in Loge 9, row M. The band played a huge mixture of everything but really seemed to like playing the deep cuts from the earlier albums. The hit songs seemed like they really didn't get into on stage. Chris's voice is amazing! At times slightly off but not too noticeable w/ all the distortion behind him from their guitars. Matt is still a great drummer and Ben's hilarious to watch. Definitely go see it in your town!

I'd heard good things about Soundgarden's performances earlier on this tour, and Chris Cornell and company did not disappoint. They played all the great ones from their vast songbook, including The Day I Tried to Live, Fell On Black Days, Blackhole Sun, Superunknown, Head Down, Rusty Cage, Outshined, Jesus Christ Pose, Pretty Noose, Blow Up the Outide World, etc. They also played the 'new' song, Black Rain, off the Telephantasm album released last year. Cornell said that this tour was about playing the old songs, while the next one would be about playing some new material that they're currently working on. Again, the set was solid, clocking in at 2 hours, with a 3-song encore (that the audience didn't deserve) tacked on for good measure. I am not overly familiar with the Mars Volta, but they were a decent intro to the headliner. All in all, glad I finally got to catch Soundgarden play so long after the rest of the grunge scene came and went.

I saw Soundgarden back in the early 90's and was worried that Chris' vocals would be shot by now, but still went to the show to support the band. Boy was I happily surprised when I heard Chris belting out the high notes from some of my Badmotorfinger favorites like Room A Thousand Years Wide! They did some creative echo effects on the microphone, but he still sounded as good as he ever has. They played for over two hours, so it's a pretty good bet that you'll hear what you came for. Probably could have done without the five minutes of intentional guitar distortion at the end of the show, but the rest of the show was great. After getting to hear some new tunes that haven't been released yet, I'm already looking forward to their next tour!

Halfway through Soundgarden's set at the Forum on Friday night lead singer Chris Cornell told the crowd that the band was in the process of putting together a new album, but didn't have any room in their setlist for new songs. Needless to say, the crowd was very appreciative as the band stepped through one 1990's FM hit after another. The only shame is that the band did not seem to be enjoying themselves the way that their audience was. The interaction between the band mates was less than zero, each performing admirably, but stuck in their own private little world. Our hope is that they find some common ground, and stick together long enough to put out some new music and follow it up with a full tour.

15 years ago I bought tickets to see Soundgarden and TOOL up in Portland, Or. The very next day my mom moved us back down to California, I was pissed. When I heard that Soundgarden broke up I got even more pissed cause I still wanted to see them live. Two weeks ago is when I found out they were back together and going on tour. I immediately got whatever tickets I could, grabbed a friend, rented a car and FINALLY! got to see them. 15 years of waiting and it was worth it. Their show was Awesome! Soundgarden never disappoints and the freak of nature whose voice we all envy, Chris Cornell, was spot on all night. Matt Cameron coulld be the greatest touring drummer alive as well. Kim was concentrating and Ben never moved a face muscle the whole night but I understand that could be normal for him. Regardless, they put on a very high energy show and the music was fantastic of course. Lots of cool tunes with cool tunings too!

I have waited a LONG time to see them live, and my dream finally came true. I saw them the prior evening at the Carolina Rebellion festival in Concord NC -- where they rocked it, even with a smaller setlist (to meet festival timeline restrictions). So I truly was looking forward to see what they'd do with a longer time allotment. They did not disappoint -- they could have played all night long, all the hits, and I would have been in pure bliss. As it was, they played mostly the hits, which one would expect with a 30-year catalog. They reached back to the earliest days with "Hunted Down" and continued with a variety that stretched through pieces off 2012's King Animal. I left the shows on Cloud 9, especially after hearing the three songs that got me through some really rough days. HIGHLY recommend seeing them!

The show was excellent, more like a 4 ½ star show, Although there was some problems with the sound (a constant hum from the PA) Soundgarden opened up strong and just got better and better as the night went on, playing most of the big hits, a lot of non-hits, and the stuff off of the new album sounded great.

Great show. They played old and new stuff. Rusty Cage was off the chain. Matt Cameron pounded those drums. Top that off with Kim and Chris on the guitar and Chris's vocals, it was really great show. Only negative was the bass player seemed like he was mad. He threw his bass down in the middle of a song and kicked a bottle of water. (not in a rock star way) He was a bit of a downer.

It was a great show in a small venue. Chris was engaged with the crowd (unlike when I saw them the previous week at The Borgata), having a good time, pulled a kid from the audience to play guitar. I was against the rail, stage right. Not bad except for the stacked speakers and monitors that were set up on stage partially blocking the view which sucked since we were in the 1st row. Otherwise, no complaints.

I took my sons to see Soundgarden, they are big fans. The music was great, the show was very good. Unfortunately the sound system was poor, resulting in a bad mix with the guitars and the voice, which was particularly difficult to understand. Soundgarden was amazing and we were so close to the stage, maybe I was 10 feet away from Chris and this was general admission too! The venue was very clean and very nice. I know you're thinking it must have been nothing but tattered flannel and receding hairlines in the audience. No, no, no. Well... maybe a little bit. Chris Cornell's voice hasn't changed a decibel since the early nineties. He still wails with the best of them. Kim Thayil sliced through ear drums with the riffs on "Pretty Noose" and nonchalantly jammed through every solo as if it was second nature, whilst enjoying several beers throughout the night. Guess they can still party, too. Bassist Ben Shepherd from the neck down was rockin-it and having a good time, but from the neck up it was frozen misery. But they were all held together by the impeccable timing of drummer Matt Cameron (who's also flannel-friendly Pearl Jam's drummer). Sing-a-longs occurred best during "Outshined" and "Burden in My Hand" but they played all the hits except "Spoonman". Which isn't to say older and deep tracks weren't performed. The latest album, King Animal, had nearly every tune mixed in with the eclectic two-hour set list. "Rusty Cage" highlighted the end of the main set, a song even Johnny Cash admired enough to cover before his demise. I'm sure there will be some overlap, but if tomorrow night's show is a carbon copy, I will be upset.

I saw Soundgarden in the third row at Staples Center, that was a great show; this one blew that away, even though I was in the balcony! Great set list that incorporated the best of their music throughout the years. lots of music from Sub Pop and Ultra Mega as well as seldom heard deep cuts off Badmotorfinger and Superunknown. Timing and texture as well as absolute musicianship is second to none. I've been to hundreds of concerts; Pink Floyd on a football field in Australia, Pantera in the pit at Universal, Iron Maiden on my birthday in Chicago. this concert ranks right in there, top 5 for sure.

The show was everything you could hope for with lots of energy and a mix of old and new songs. The band put on a memorable performance and was engaging the crowd at every opportunity. Through the dense haze of ganja smoke, you could get a glimpse of the impressive backdrop that was rotating behind the band. Images of churches left in ruins covered in delicate white snow & wandering eyeballs peering deep into your soul were just some of the impressive visual effects. The music was performed really well, but the venue had the sound all wrong...it was washed out and way too loud. In many cases, you could barely hear what Chris was singing. If the FOX can get a better sound crew, this venue will be a great place to see/hear shows. I probably won't go back anytime soon unless it's a band I have to see, like SOUNDGARDEN.

This show rocked. The band sounded great! They played songs off EVERY ALBUM and, coincidentally, a few of my favorites, like Fresh Tendrils and Slaves & Bulldozers. The last time I saw SG live was in 1994, and they still got it!

What a great show! I hadn't seen Chris Cornell since he was touring solo a few years back, and man does he make hitting those high notes while playing seem easy! The entire concert was rocking, plenty of new songs, quite a few classics you wanted to hear from older albums, you couldn't ask for more! I was so glad I was able to go, I highly recommend them to anyone who is even remotely interested in any of their songs, they are worth the money! This venue has nice acoustics, but there are no real "seats" unless you'r in the VIP area on the 2nd floor, and there were plenty of tall dudes in bad standing spots making certain areas impossible for my shorter friend to see. However if you tough it out, people constantly move to get drinks or use the bathroom, so even if you couldn't see at one point usually you wind out in and out of good sight spots during the show. You hear it great everywhere however, even the bathroom.

Soundgarden never disappoints! The two and a half hour set with a great combination of new songs from King Animal and old classics is exactly what this true fan loved. They rocked! I loved the intimate venue choice for their first L.A. show of the tour. And we can't ignore the fact that Chris Cornell is easy on the eyes! Absolutely loved the show...forever epic!!

Rockfest was fantastic, we managed to get right up next to the fence as close as possible in the pit. Everyone was amazing, but Sum 41 was the absolute best. They have so much energy and talk to the crowd and I loved it. Thank you 89.7 The River for the fest!

Absolutely loved this concert. This was my second time going and I am now a fan for life. Best experience of my life. Pierce the veil, the pretty reckless and papa roach were amazing as always. Incredible energy! Will be attending every year till I die!

Missed first band on due to que to get in, thankfully made it in and to the pit for argumentally the best band of the day...Biffy Clyro....even with huge probelems with distortion and feedback, (which every band of the day also contended with) Biffy were a breath of fresh air in a line up that was mediocre in comparison. I feel it was a great shame that the Midwest were not ready for such a phenomenal band...i loved every note they produced and hope by the time they are greying, the midwest will have caught up on progressive music! Sum 41 played their hearts out and produced a great show as did Pappa Roach...i left during Sound Garden as i couldnt take mediocre anymore......Biffy Clyro the band of the day...so says I

Bands were ok. Everything else stunk...including the only 20 portapotties they had this year. There were more than double the amount last rockfest.

Rockfest 2017 was awesome. All of the bands were energetic and played great music. With every band, you wish they would have played a song or two of theirs that they didn't play, and I felt that way about Soundgarden, (they didn't play a couple of their singles); but they only have a certain amount of time and their lineup was awesome anyway. Soundgarden was awesome and worth the time and money for this concert!

Soundgarden was solid. All of the songs were great, but the highlights were Outshined, My Wave, Rusty Cage, Jesus Christ Pose and Slaves and Bulldozers. No BS, no covers, just straight up Soundgarden!

The opening act was pretty bad. They were a screamo band that didn't go with Soundgarden. If they had a lead singer that sang instead of screamed, I think they would've been a lot better since the instrumentals were fairly good. At least the lead singer seemed self-aware that his band was not everyone's cup of tea, because he dedicated a song to everyone that thought they sucked. As far as the Soundgarden concert went, it was plagued with bad sound. It's like they jacked up the volume from the opening band level and didn't care if the balance was off. Chris's vocals, in particular, sounded very muddy.

Chris and the band were just what I had hoped to see. They played some new songs which were really good, but when they played the A SIDES it sent chills up my spine. I am 58 years old and I was 40 when I first heard them. I never thought they would play in Tuscaloosa Alabama, but boy did they ever.

Cornell sounded fantastic. These guys were as good as they were in the 90s. A very solid show by Soundgarden. The only downside to the night was the opening act, which was horrific. Not sure how they were chosen to open for such an outstanding group.

Song selection was perfect. Played most of the songs I wanted to hear. Lead guitar was too loud overshadowed Chris Cornel even though I love a loud show. Great to see this kind of artists come to T-town.
