I saw this with my 10 year old daughter. We both really enjoyed the show. It's a wholesome, family friendly show with a great story line. Would recommend this to anyone!

We had seen Mary Poppins when it was here in Chicago in 2009 twice . That is why we went again and found this cast to be just as good as that one. The only bad thing we can say is that the children were a little hard to hear at the beginning of the play, but considering is was only the second night of performances there are bound to still be a few bugs here and there. Wouldn't mind seeing this cast again, if we could fit it into our schedule.

Mary Poppins was fantastic!! All 4 of us, from a 7 year old to the 40 somethings, thoroughly enjoyed it. I've seen Beauty and the Beast, Lion King and Little Mermaid on Broadway, and this definitely belongs in that company. The theatre was beautiful and very comfortable. I would give it an A!!!

Definitely relived a lot of childhood memories seeing that performance. Fun cast, but saw it on it's second night, and couldn't understand a word "Jane" said. Second act she slowed down a bit, but she needs work on articulation. Rachel Wallace was stunning and Nicolas Dromard just great. Audience clapped and hooted with pleasure through the finale. Was lots of fun. The best voice of the bunch, Q. Smith. Even tho Rachel is stunningly beautiful and has a wonderful voice, when Q. Smith gets to play Mary Poppins, America will have arrived.

Many of the recent movie-to-stage adaptations take liberties with what was presented on screen when adapting for the stage. With this version of Mary Poppins, it's very evident. That's not to say that what's presented isn't done so very well and with some very memorable theatrics and performances. But if you come expecting all of the music and imagery from the Disney film, you will be in for quite a surprise. There are a number of new songs as well as some very different visual interpretations of the songs that did carry over from the film. Instead of dancing penguins and carousel horses, you have statues come to life. The magical clean-up scene in the bedroom has shifted to the kitchen. And if you love "I love to laugh," be prepared to pull out your dvd when you get home. It isn't in this live version. Differences aside, there are some wonderful sights and performances here. Rachel Wallace looks practically perfect as Mary Poppins and her full warm voice wins as the best vocal performance of the evening. I was left wishing we could have seen a bit more of Mary's warmth and humanity. Her Poppins was, at times, a bit chilly & calculated. Nicolas Dromard was engaging and fun as Bert and his timing & footwork was impressive, especially in his gravity defying tap dance around the proscenium. The rest of the cast was strong with special mention going to Janet MacEwen, who mined vocal and emotional gold from her small part as the Bird Woman. On the second night of the run, there were some technical problems with the amplification which particularly hampered the Jane & Michael. I would think these will be remedied quickly. Overall, my family enjoyed the evening. My daughter loved the show but lamented the absence of some of her favorite songs & scenes (as did I). Therein lies the danger when adapting such a beloved movie for the stage. I only wish Disney Theatrical Productions had used the same inventiveness they brought to the staged Lion King when imagining bringing Mary Poppins from the celluloid to the footlights. The magic that was left out of this production tends to overshadow the magic that was brought in.

Several substantial changes in the main storyline and musical numbers would have ruined the play if the intricate sets and ingenious special effects hadn't overcome. Throw out your notions of Mary Poppins before attending and this performance won't disappoint.

I attend with my dear friend who had just played Mary Poppins for my daughters' 5th & 7th birthday. Such a great girl's night out to celebrate a successful and amazing party and our love of Mary. I did spend the first act trying to hit reset in my mind from the Disney movie. The second act was pure magic! The musical provides so many answers that are not provided in the movie. Great production of a magical story! We wanted to go back the next day!

This musical is not just for kids. Adults will find themselves whirled back to childhood by this funny, playful, and magical musical. This musical manages to capture the magical essence of the Mary Poppins that many of us grew up with through the use of some amazing effects, props, and sets. The plot of the story is slightly different with some new scenes and songs, but are equally as wonderful as the classics. I would definitely go back and see it again and again.

This is the first time I had ever gone to a Broadway in Chicago event. This show was truly amazing. It does have its differences from th movie, but all of the favorite songs are included, along with new ones; which were really clever and exciting. The dance sequences were superb, especially Step in Time. That was really amazing...and seeing Mary fly into the audience is something I will never forget. This cast was amazing. I would have gone back to see it multiple times if I could.

The show was awesome! Definitely made the old movie I grew up with come to life. Many changes from the actual Disney adaptation though. Some things added, some omitted (especially songs). Awesome singing and choreography (most notable for Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious). One added scene was when they jumped into the chalk drawing. Instead of cute penguins, there were dancing statues. Excellent ballet, but the costumes were inappropriate (nude)... not in line with the Disney rendition. On another note, they did a GREAT job of making Mary Poppins fly through the sky! The actors who played Mary & Bert did a fantastic job... speaking, singing, and dancing just as expected! Everyone spoke so quickly in that well-loved British accent, and the scenes changed rapidly from one to the next. So fun to watch!

The directing, choreography and special effects were once again superb. I saw the play last year and was amazed. This time I brought my kids and amazed them. I noticed, however, that they used a number of understudies. In particular, the lead male was very personable and fine for the children, but was less physically talented than the actor I saw last time. For example, the first time I saw the play the actor's dancing was splendid--he danced in full throttle up and down the walls (not to mention the ceiling). This fellow was more tentative, less Dick Van Dyke and more run of the mill. That said, the kids were still amazed overall, liked the actor(s), and really enjoyed the show.

This rendition of the Mary Poppins story is a much closer, more intense look at the development of human tolerance, forgiveness, and understanding than the movie version. The story is darker, less happy, and less comedic. But ultimately, the triumph of the human spirit displayed in the production is much more affecting. The character of the father is so much deeper, and given a beautiful treatment. Men are so often portrayed as buffoons, and not important. Not so here. The lessons to be learned in this stage production are universal, and incredibly important for any child's development. As such, the lessons are also a great reminder to adults of the role they can play in shaping traits of kindness and acceptance of the other. A great story.

I took our 8 year old little girl, to see this show and was really looking forward to it as we watch the movie often with her and our 2 older girls. They all know all the songs and usually sing along. That was the problem. They used some of the same music but changed the words to virutally every song. Our daughter was very disappointed, and honestly, so was I. The acting was great, the dancing was great, the scenery and technical aspects were outstanding! BUT WHERE WERE THE SONGS? That decision ruined the show. I'm guessing that they didn't want to pay the royalties for the real lyrics and the rest of the songs. but without them, what's the point?

If like us, you expected a light-hearted paly that is similar to the beloved movie. Forget it. The show skipped many of the classic scenes from the movie (that wonderful penguin dance comes to mind) and instead focuses on the dark reasons why Mr. Banks is such a grump. And how many times can you re-do "A Spoonful of Sugar?" It's one thing for we as adults to be discouraged, but when you spend all that money and the kids hated it, that says it all.

There really wasn't much to love about this misguided musical. Way too much spectacle, way too little "special." Jane and Michael Banks mumbled their way through the entire show; I couldn't make out at least half of what they said. Mary Poppins was unimpressive; not a pleasant singing voice to listen to. The musical is over-long by at least 30 minutes. The show had a darkness that was definitely found in either the original movie or the books on which it was based. Very, very disappointing. I couldn't wait for it to end.

It was a Jolly Holiday with Mary & Burt. The Musical was the deffanition of Broadway & Musical magic. I have seen many musicals in my life and this one is at the top of my list of favorites. What was great about the show is that it was different than the film, though I did miss my penguins & the laughing song. the Musical was something that I feel everyone should see. The set for the musical was ahmazing and the house how it folded out and in was something that I had never seen before on stage. More than the set the cast was wonderful. The children who play Jane and Michael- I give props to any chid that young who can keep up with the dance moves that the elder dancers were doing. Mary Poppins looked and soudned teh way i feel that she should. Also i loved the way Burt narratived the show. There were many jaw dropping moments & it was great to have these moments while sitting in the theater and getting goosebumps as you watch Burt tap dance and sing on the ceiling. This show should be seen by those all young and old it makes you realize the importance of family, that money isnt everything and that you need to have faith and anything can happen.

The set design was extraordinary! Mary poppins, Bert and esemble chourus were wonderful! My one complaint had to be the young Jane. I know this child is talented but she needs to lower her reactions several nothces to match the other cast members. She was a complete distraction! The director should have given her notice to take it down several notches! Also, there was an audience member texting during the performance. Perhaps the ushers should keep a look out for these rude theater goers. I suspect they are amateur theater goers.

Amazing, entertaining, true musical extravaganza. All three generations of our family throroughly enjoyed. Our Dress Circle right row CC seats were great it felt like our own little balcony yet close to the stage to feel the excitement.

THE PLAY WAS GREAT AND WE DID ENJOY IT. THE GIRL IN THE PLAY WAS HARD TO UNDERSTAND AT SOME POINTS . NOT SURE IF IT WAS HER MIC OR JUST DIDN'T HAVE THE VOICE TO PROJECT THE WORDS. OTHER WISE IT WAS VERY ENJOYABLE. I TOOK MY MOTHER AS A CHRISTMAS GIFT. SHE ALSO ENJOYED IT .. SHE DID SAY THE SAME ABOUT THE LITTLE GIRLS VOICE..

Great show for the whole family. Not a bad seat in the house. Take advantage of the theatre in Chicago.

The show was delightful. The actors were entertaining and the songs were well sung. I thought the play would mimic the movie a bit more but it didi not. It was enjoyable none the less. My 8 year old daughter enjoyed it as well.

I loved it! The play was long but it seemed like minutes and it was over. I didn't want it to end. I am older and thought it was great so the kids would absolutely be spellbound. I would recommend it to all ages. It was wonderful!!!!

I had a really great time at this show (minus the nit-wits sitting in front & behind me). Loved the house prop & seeing Mary fly & seeing Bert walking the stage's edging. I still have some of the songs popping up in my head almost daily (Fly A Kite mostly - thank god). The seats were great had the older lady in front of me not been so "antsy & fidgity." I've seen kids sit still longer that the woman in front of me. Kept moving around & then I'd have to move to see the stage. I guess this is why I generally buy the first row seats of sections so I have no one blocking my/our view(s).

The show itself was excellent, though the pace seemed a bit rushed during the first half. I was very disappointed with our seats. When I purchased 3 seats in Section DCIR, I didn't realize that this section has a very low, enormous ceiling (balcony above) that blocks the view of anything above the stage. There are also speakers that hang down on the end that are a bit distracting. For some shows this probably isn't an issue, but in this case, we missed a couple of key moments/set features... very unfortunate. We would have enjoyed the show more from the far corners.
