Boz Scaggs

Boz Scaggs

To sing the Great American Songbook convincingly, it helps to believe in chance. Allthe legendary composers of standards - George and Ira Gershwin, Richard Rodgers andLorenz Hart, Harold Arlen, the list goes on - had something to say about life'sserendipities. Their songs are full of unexpected encounters, fine romances that blossomout of nowhere. Their wistful and often impossibly beautiful melodies convey the magicof happenstance and also its flipside, the capricious cruelty of fate.

Boz was AWESOME! as he always is. He sang one of my favorites...Georgia! Loved the song ---Rock and Stick--- on his new CD, OUT OF THE BLUES! We had front row seats. Got to see him up close! Love him!

I don't think anyone expected Michael McDonald to be the opener. He DELIVERED, as he seems to do in every performance I have heard by him. That man's voice is like a freight train, strong, vibrant, dominating and resonates through your entire soul. I would have peferred Boz as the opener since his music was a bit more "relaxed". Boz's backup singer, was the highlight in his performance. She kinda stole the show and had presence on the stage, not to mention a set of pipes that I am certain could have totally rocked the house. Boz and Michalel should have swapped backup singers ( McDonald's girl did not quite match his vocal prowess.) The evening was nice, HOT, but nice and both performers are true professionals with great talents. Would have liked to hear McDonald do a MJ tribute song.

It was a such a great show -- both Michael McDonald and Boz Scaggs sounded great. It's such a pleasure to listen to artists whose voices still sound incredible 30 years after I first started listening to their music. The bands for both acts were incredible, especially the guitarist with Boz Scaggs (last name Zing?) and his female singer, as well. All in all, one of the best concerts we've seen this year. Incredible!

I loved these guys in my teens and twenties and they are still amazing thirty years later. They may look older, but their voices haven't aged at all, especially Boz. This was a much better pairing than Michael and Steely Dan, which we saw two years ago. Michael even seemed happier this time.

What a night! Michael McDonald took to the stage and took over....when MM wasn't taking you back to a more carefree time; his saxophonist wowed throughout the set on alto sax, flute, soprano sax and swept you away. What a great lead in for the cool night, cool breezes and cool melodious tones of Boz Scaggs. Thank goodness for those 6 months Boz spent in Macon years ago. He really brought his music locally for all of us Georgians. The talented Lady Trouble (Monet) is phenomenal...I think I'll get some black leather. The song selection was perfect; a little rock, blues, soul for a memorable trip down memory lane. Lido had the crowd on their feet. If Boz's vocals didn't wow you, his guitar highlights would. The talent he brings with him on sax, keyboard, and guitar will leave you wanting more. Chastain is the perfect venue for Boz Scaggs...what a comfortable, warm, embracing evening with great talent. Great crowd that appreciated the performances and talent! When Boz is back, I'll be there!

The Overall event was "Recommended." Boz Scaggs was "Amazing." Boz continues to maintain the quality he demonstrated in the "beginning years in the '70s. His voice is as good as in the '70s but with increased ritchness. His band is awesome. The sound is well balanced, dynamic, and has the perception of an orchestra (strings, horns, etc. with the use of synthesizers/key boards). His performance was consistently Amazing from the beginning to the end. Would love to hear Boz with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra. Michael McDonald was good, but his voice is not what we would hope. The last 1/3 of his portion was excellent.

While Boz Scaggs has a very good band and plays a creditable array of tunes, Michael McDonald is the real reason to see this show. His voice is powerful beyond compare and his set list is second to none. His veteran band plays flawlessly and tastefully and the crowd was brought to its feet more than once.

Boz was smooth and golden, as always, with a tight and very balanced group around him for a relatively seamless performance. Wish it could have gone on longer, but the time constraints of the venue prevented a rendition of 'Harbor Lights' and other classics. Kudos to the crew at the mixing board for the sound quality and level. Beautiful night, too.

Fantastic evening with Michael McDonald and Boz Scaggs. I enjoy Michael McDonald's music, but, since Boz sings my favorite song of all time ( "Look What You've Done to Me"), I have to give him the nod for the portion of the concert that I enjoyed the most. His voice is still amazing and his backup singer, Monet, is so very gifted and talented, as well. I will say that I was disappointed that he didn't sing my other favorite, "Heart of Mine", but hearing "Miss Sun" was a wonderful surprise, especially the end with Monet. His encore was "Georgia"... an appropriate ending at Chastain Park in Atlanta under the stars. A great time!

it is hard not to like Chastain for any event. With aging artist continuing their tours even when some should stay home, it was a welcomed surprise last night. Both Michael McDonald and Boz Scaggs focused on their traditional cover hits, the sets were tight and the mostly over 50 crowd was very enthusiastic throughout the evening.

McDonald selected a good variety of music from the various groups for which he played. He mixed some well-known songs with some others that were lesser known which I suspect may have been more of his personal favorites. I thought it was very gracious of him to promote his back-up singer's newly released CD. At first, I thought Boz Skaggs was going to have a difficult time following McDonald. What a pleasant surprise! His command of the guitar and the bluesy rhythm had the crowd swaying for most of his set. I especially enjoyed that he gave a little bit of history about some of the songs he was getting ready to perform. By personally investing the crowd, the music and lyrics became just as meaningful to the crowd as the performer. His back-up singer Monet was incredible...at one point - she almost stole the show.

He can still rock at 74. Voice is strong and clear, good back up band. When he finished with Loan Me a Dime, I closed my eyes and thought it was 1972. Just wish the show was a little longer. 90 minutes is a bit short. Venue (Silver Legacy) was good, and ticket prices reasonable.

As a longtime fan of Boz Scaggs, (still have 3 of his 8 track tapes) I was thrilled to be able to finally see him perform live. I was not disappointed. The performance was a mixture of several new songs and many of his past hits. I was quite impressed with his performance on the guitar and his singing. I had no idea he was that gifted and proficient a musician and that his voice would sound that good live. His band members were also skilled and talented and sounded extremely well playing with Boz. The venue, Silver Creek Event Center at Four Winds New Buffalo, was very clean, well-organized and the show started right on time as promised. I also have to give a shout out on the video camera work showing exceptional close ups, we would have missed from the audience, of the artist performing on their respective instruments. My wife and I had a great time, a great memory and would highly recommend seeing any of his future performances.

The presentation was a bit different than the other times I ve seen Boz perform. He played some old blues and rock songs much to the delight of the near sold out house. He also performed songs from more recent albums such as Memphis . He mixed in his 1970 s hits like Jo Jo Lowdown Lido Shuffle Georgia Harbor Lights among others. Saturday night, September 9, 2017 Boz Scaggs and his impressive five piece band that accompanied him put on a show in Baltimore at the Modell Performing Arts Center that was so polished and smooth sounding I asked my girlfriend if she thought it was pre-recorded? Immediately she said No Way! I had first section balcony seats by the stage and looked down on his band the entire evening. The sound coming through the speakers near me was so strong and clear it was like listening to the perfect live recording if there is such a thing. The band did all of their hits and some other jazz style songs that were also impressive. I could see the keyboard players hands plain as day and saw the drummer and guitar player's (which includes Boz) hand work that was on target all night. No faking it with this band. Boz sounded just like he did in the 70's and 80's. I saw a PBS interview he did a few years ago you can find on you tube and he mentions not finding his voice until the last 10 years. He always thought he could sing but not great and now feels he is a better vocalist. Buy your tickets today and you will enjoy the Boz Scaggs show when it comes to your town or one nearby.

Paid for box seats thinking they were better. Horrible seats! Ushers put us in wrong seats Twice! Then lady in row in front of me decided to stand, wave her arms, etc. And we couldn't see through her! Very rude! I would never get seats on the floor or box seats (all are on one flat level), unless you want to stand and scream and not here the group. We complained, moved to the Teir seating, upper level (sides of balcony), and best seats ever!!! Lyric is easily accessible to light rail, great sound, and you can even take your drink to your seats to enjoy (unlike the Hippodrome). Again, we loved everything except the box and floor seats!

First time I saw Boz Scaggs was in the summer of 1976 when Silk Degrees was released. He was fantastic! After that, I saw him a couple more times in the next few years, he was equally good each time. First time I saw Michael McDonald was also in the summer of 1976 when he became front man for the Doobie Brothers. Then I saw him with the Doobie Brothers a few more times into the early 1980s. Fast forward to 2013 when I saw Boz Scaggs, Michael McDonald and Donald Fagen as the Dukes of September. Even though nearly 40 years had passed, they were fantastic. Since then, I've seen Boz Scaggs twice more, the most recent was this concert with Michael McDonald. Better yet, was having front row seats, right in front of Michael McDonald's piano and the microphone where Boz Scaggs stood. Can't wait to see them again!

I'm 56 and have seen balls many times over the years, he always puts on a fantastic show. It's 73 I think he's right in his prime. His voice is as fine as ever and has a terrific backing band. I was sad he didn't sing my favorite song though, Heart of Mine I think is one of his best for sure. I think it would be a better show at the ended with that, something that was upbeat that everybody knew versus the obscure song from the English songwriter he finished with.

We love both of these bands. The experience was marred by the sound and nearby patrons. Robert Cray was wonderful as always but the sound started out muddy. It improved some over his set making it an enjoyable concert. The vocals on Boz Scaggs were muddy, intelligible. While we heard the melody, the words were muffled. We couldn't understand a single one. Very disappointing. Broward Center needs to get its act together. The other issue were other concert goers sitting next to us. The one on our left texted all the way through. The one once right talked, texted, and took a phone call. Really? Audiences have gotten so rude. Don't go if you can't put it down for two hours!

I've loved his music since the 70's and this was the first time I've seen him in concert. I scored a front row center seat so was very excited about being 2 feet from the stage! Not worth the $60. We were so looking forward to all of Boz's big hits and he didn't play enough of them. Missed hearing our favorite song "It's Over". Boz made this much more a blues music show and he had way too many musicians on stage. The set looked crowded full of drums, amps, and multiple guitars. The show didn't have much energy and Boz just didn't connect with the audience. This was our 3rd show at River City - a venue we really love. Something was really off with the sound/microphones for this show. You could barely hear the singers clearly and there was no balance in the sound. Overall the sound was awful. Had this been our first show, we would not return. We've seen fantastic shows with Toto and .38 Special. This one was a disappointment.

The show opened with Toto, which did a mix of their hits and some deeper album tracks that absolutely rocked in concert! Every song showed what a talented group of musicians they are, and they have not lost any of their sound over the years. When their portion of the show ended, I turned to my wife and said, "I do not envy Boz Scaggs having to come out after THAT performance!" I shouldn't have worried, though... Boz and his band were as fantastic as Toto was, again playing some of his newer material along with his big hits. The group of backing musicians that Boz assembled was fantastic, but the true stand-out (in my opinion) was backup singer Ms. Monet! From her stage presence to her incredible voice, she was a light that shone brightly on the stage! Happily, Boz featured her on an unforgettable version of the Aretha Franklin hit "Until You Come Back To Me" and it was a performance that would have had Lady Aretha herself giving a standing ovation at the conclusion! Seek out this young lady on YouTube and iTunes... you will not be disappointed!!!!!

It is impossible to fit a full dose of Boz's material from over 50 years of recording history, into one concert performance...but he does his best. I would have liked sharing some of the earliest grooves, like Baby's Callin Me Home...leading right on to Steppin Stone, but hey, it's all good. Fabulous band and Monae (sp?) were great as usual. Boz is a class act and still in great voice. I must say...being The Ryman, sound engineer could have done more to bring out Boz's voice from the mix on several songs. Still, a memorable evening, worth the 5 hour drive from St. Louis.

Saw these guys at the LA County Fair. Loved both groups but the sound system sucked. All we could hear was bass and some of the high stuff, nothing in between. When Chicago played horns, you could hardly hear them. The hard seats in the grandstand and being stuffed in like sardines didn't help. We left after 5 Chicago songs. We won't be going back to this venue.

The concert was great! We didn't know exactly what to expect with Booker T., but he and his band, were amazing! Laid back blues and soul, the band was tight and Booker T. was as gracious and wonderful as you could ever expect. For me, the highlight was when he told some background on each of the songs he performed - this man is like a character our of Forrest Gump - he was just in the right place at the right time in musical history - his rendition of Jimi Hendrix's "Hey Joe" blew the house down! Boz Scaggs has always been a favorite, he's been on our bucket list of concerts for several years, this was our first time to see him and he didn't disappoint. His guitar playing is amazing, his voice is just as unique and clear as it ever was. The band sounded so crisp, his female back up vocalist, Miss Monet, was incredible - their voices together made you think Boz had a whole line of singers behind him. The songs were a mix of old and new, the only song we really missed hearing was "Miss Sun", other than that, it was a good mix of the setlist. I would definitely go see Boz again, wish he would book into the Starlight since the Uptown was pretty cramped and the seating was folding chairs. By the end of the concert we were standing up as much for the music as we were for our butts & legs that were cramping. LoL

Went to the show with my parents and my girlfriend. Mom's birthday present. My parents listened to Boz while I was growing up, so why not? Awesome show, Boz was great and he is surrounded by some great musicians. Played a bunch of new stuff, but a lot of the classics too. Great, great show!!!

This is a concert to remember for me. I loved every minute and seeing Bozz Scaggs from the stage so up close, it was like he was singing to me and no one else. I went home humming and smiling.

Boz Scaggs is much more than I expected, even though I have been a fan with my wife from back in the seventies. He's as good a blues man as Eric Clapton and other like him! Wow! Great show, that included a number of his big hits too! Oh and his back up female singer (Ms. Monique) was AWESOME!!

Have never been to this Casino before, not a fan of smoking so that was not good. The show was great though! Boz played the songs you immediately recognize. Played a good long time and kept the crowd entertained throughout. I have always loved his voice, getting to see and hear him in concert was even better! Would loved to have a longer show, wanted him to do Breakdown!

Boz Scaggs continues to have the same unique voice and outstanding musical talent I've loved for many years. He mixed up old favorites with his newer ones and struck the right balance between. His band members are excellent musicians and backup singer Monet is a fun entertainer to watch with a gorgeous voice. Not sure how she maneuvered on those stilettos!

Zero personality with little or no interaction with audience. He quit after just one hour, then came out and stretched out one encore song for about 15 minutes. Go to many concerts with bigger headliners, Billy Joel, George Strait, Cher, Dolly Parton, Willie Nelson, Fleetwood Mac, Smokey Robinson, Rolling Stones, James Taylor, Neil Diamond, Creedence Clearwater, the Rascals, etc. all no shorter than 1 & 1/2 hour and most 2 hours. Felt ticket way too overpriced after I went to his concert. Also met person who bought ticket last minute at your box office and he paid less than 1/2 for a ticket in row right behind me. Will never pay to see him again.

Boz Scaggs gave his Warner Theatre audience in Washington, DC the "Lowdown" as he mixed his hits with cuts from his latest CD "Memphis" and other songs from his vast catalog. His vocals were in fine form, and he can sing anything from pop to R&B to southern soul to blues, and his guitar playing has only improved with the years. The audience was dancing in the aisles to "Lido Shuffle," and one woman climbed on the stage as cool cat Boz kept singing without missing a beat

Listening to Boz Scaggs perform is like chatting with your best friend in high school whom you haven't seen in years. The memories, the feelings, the sound - they're all the same. That voice only Boz can produce is clear, genuine, and wide ranging. Nothing flashy about Boz, and that's part of the appeal. He is just a talented singer/song writer with a unique gift for telling a story that makes you want to hear more. He lays it on the line. There is no overproduction, or pyrotechnics, or distracting light show. Just a gifted musician with a unique voice and a dedicated following.

Been seeing Boz for many years. Always a fave with the most unique voice. He still can do it and the show was great. He even did Runnin Blue which is rare. The band was top notch and all in all well done. Not a big fan of the venue with the hype and bar prices, but worth the time to see such a great talent still bringing it and rockin fans new and old. They did not introduce the opening act or Boz which was odd.

The price of admission was worth every penny! Boz played several cuts from his new Memphis cd and many of his all-time favorite hits. He ended the evening with 5 or 6 encore songs which included Loan me a Dime, Harbor Lights, and my personal favorite, Breakdown Dead Ahead!! I was especially grateful the band returned to the stage when they could have ended the evening after playing one or two encores. Boz' voice is still amazing - today's young artists don't even come close to the vocal talents of this icon.

I can't say enough great things about this concert. I had a 2nd row seat so that made it even better. I have been a fan since Litto Shuffle came out in '76. Boz sounds amazing. I have waited for him to come to an indoor venue in KC and wow was it worth the wait! Now I wish I'd have gotten tix for the Salina show the following night! His voice is amazing. His band members are amazing and he is OBVIOUSLY a perfectionist! He did a rendition of Rainy Night in Georgia that was 2nd to NONE! Hope to make it by his Winery in California some day. Awesome-Awesome show! Thanks, Boz. I'll never forget it.

Loved this show as well as the venue at the Sands Bethlehem Event Center. He sang some songs from his new CD titled Memphis which were excellent and well as doing his old time favorites (which I was on my feet dancing). Would recommend seeing Boz Scaggs if he is going to be your area! Going to be getting his new CD for sure! Thanks Boz for a great show!

This man never disappoints! It's the third year in a row we have seen him and the third year in a row that we have been thrilled with his performance. This year he was by himself and we LOVED that! He had more time on stage and was able to sing more songs in this venue. His voice was crisp as always, even hitting high notes that are hard for any young person to reach. His guitar playing was superb as well. Speaking of guitar playing, his lead guitarist rocked the house as well. Very good choice on his band and they were all outstanding musicians. Ms. Monique got the place fired up as usual too. Love her. I can't encourage you enough to go and see Boz. Can't wait till next year now to see him again!

Boz Scaggs sounded as good as ever. He sang all the songs I was hoping to hear. I took my friends and they were all so impressed. My son was equally impressed; though he had heard me play Boz Scaggs music over the years growing up he said it was nothing like seeing him perform in person. It took me back to my university days in "The City" San Francisco. Boz's back up singers were great; especially the female vocalist. Boz on all his guitars was superb. Thanks Boz !! This was an amazing show. Having seen Boz and band in 1976 I was stunned at how little has changed. He is one of those rare artists who has improved with age. He was still the same talented musician only with a bit of gray in his hair. The concert started with a blues number, continued on with a couple of New Orleans blues tunes, and progressed into R&B and his more well known radio hits. The audience called/demanded the band's return with two encores. The first encore started with his famous 'Loan Me A Dime' from his first official album. It blew the crowd away. When he started the well known song 'Lido Shuffle' the entire auditorium started singing along with him. Many musicians will encourage the audience to sing a well known line or two. It was not necessary. The audience knew his songs and sang on their own. I repeat "an amazing show'. If he plays the Ryman again you can bet I'll be in the audience.

This was the second time for me to see Boz Skaggs at the Ryman. What a wonderful place to hear great music, there is not one bad seat in the whole venue. My husband and I even got up and danced to one of our favorite song that we use to dance to when we first starting dating over 25 years ago. ( Look what you done to me ) The woman who sang with him was unbelievable, they both just blew me away.

A packed crowd of baby boomers jumped to their feet often to rock out to favorite songs by these musical legends. Michael McDonald opened with a mix of tunes from his Doobie Brother days as well as his solo career. A huge MM fan, I would have liked more of his non-Motown stuff, but it was all good. Boz Scaggs and his tight little band played some of his hits like "Jojo" "Georgia" a"Look What You've Done to Me" "Dirty Lowdown" and ending on "Lido Shuffle" without doubt the high point of his set. My companion and I felt his voice got a bit ragged and that maybe he cut it short. Still he remained as Michael McDonald retook the stage to join him in 3 encore numbers, with all hands on deck for one number, "Drowning in the Sea of Love." Both back-up singers for each headliner were just fantastic! At the end, three and a half hours after the start, the audience seemed very happy and satisfied at a rocking evening of music.

I've seen him four times between June 2008-June 2009...his opening night last year, his jazz tour ....and I would have to say that in the midst of this hot, steamy venue-Boz was at his most relaxed and laid back. He was actually chatting with the crowd -something which I have never know him to do extensively. It was great to hear him play lead guitar on many songs and his voice was MUCH better than in past shows. The atmosphere may have helped the performance because of the lack of air-conditioning, flip-flop beach crowd and the hooting and hollering...very much like a club...there were about 1,800 at the show. I may have to take a break from Boz for a while because this show left such an awesome impression. My 80 year old mom gave the BOZ two thumbs up too!

I continue to search for the sounds I enjoyed at concerts in the late sixties and early seventies (The Grande Ballroom, Grande Riviera and Eastown in Detroit). This was the heart of classic rock and roll. It's great to see the gray haired crowd at a venue like Silver Creek Event Center. I certainly fit right in. Boz and the band did too. They provided the hits, sung and performed as tightly as the albums, and added a few "enhancements" here and there. The key to these performances is the quality of the musicians, which this performance certainly had, but also the sound quality of the concert venue. Boz didn't need to be blasted at us with ear vibrating irritation. We needed to hear Boz's voice, the lyrics, and qualities of seasoned musicians. They delivered, and so did the sound crew. Start to finish, this one was a winner!
