Once upon a dream, Rascal concert in New York City was a special treat. Seeing and hearing the four originals back together was truly amazing. They sound great - didn't miss a beat. Their songs have so much meaning. Their performances were wonderful almost 5 decades ago and still today sound beautiful. The video and narration was extra special and the flashback pictures were a treat. Loved it all!

I've got all the Rascals albums on vinyl and most on CD. The last time I saw the original band was 1969 at Boston College. This was a unique event in that they gave you and interactive mix of video interviews and re-enactments of events that were seamlessly woven between the live songs. Most people knew the group for the hits they had, but had no idea about the changes they tried to make through song and their performances to help us navigate the turmoil of the day. So not only did everyone get a great concert from the best band, but they got a little history lesson as well. The show included some selections that never made the radio at the time, but showcased their talents just the same. It was a very well crafted experience. A huge thank you to Steven Van Zandt for making happen what a lot of dedicated Rascals fans thought impossible.

Where do I begin? Well, as the song says, "It's Love!" As corny and old-fashioned as this may sound to the faded and jaded among us, The Rascals: Once Upon A Dream was indeed a dream come true. This amazing concert/multi-media production not only delivered the musical goods -- something The Rascals did night after night after night in concert (and on record) throughout their 1965-70 Atlantic Records chart heyday -- it also succeeded in telling this seminal rock 'n soul band's story with flourishes of humor, healthy doses of pathos and empathy, a sense of genuine theatrical flair, and just the right blend of sentiment and nostalgia. The reciprocal love and joy shared between this reunited band of brothers and their loyal, long-suffering fan base was almost palpable at the Richard Rodgers on Sunday night. When we last saw Felix, Eddie, Dino and Gene playing together on stage / in concert back in 1970, who could've predicted we'd all rendezvous 43 years later -- and on Broadway, no less?!! Thank you, guys, for delivering the concert event of a lifetime, an absolute miracle of a reunion that everyone said would never happen. Thank you, thank you, thank you, Steven Van Zandt for your tenacity, your vision, your excellent musical taste, your undying love for the Rascals, and for proving that dreams can come true. Sometimes it just takes a little time.

For a bunch of old guys, they can still really play and sing. Brigati was maybe half a note away from hitting the really high ones, but his performance on How Can I be Sure was, nevertheless, terrific. Cavalierre was unbelievably good. Our seats were good but very pricey. To the extent that we paid extra for the "meet and greet" it was really not worth it. We had to wait for around 40 minutes after the show ended and the band still hadn't come out. They lined us up in a receiving line, but still no band. Finally, we left.

It wasn't a 60's Love In or a Be In, It wasn't even a concert but rather a mutual love affair between the Rascals and their fans. Not every song was note perfect and the sound of their vocals and music wasn't always right from the records, and the video behind them while certainly done well wasn't the reason for anyone's attendance. It was simply a chance to relive ones youth, seeing the seminal group of my youth, not unlike the rest of this packed house. The average age of the attendee's was 60 plus. Some were Eddies neighbors, cousins of Felix, Genes friends, Dino's class mates. We were all related through the Rascals Music. I was there the last night of the Broadway Run, and emotions ran high, but I was told that every night was the same. Long live the Rascals. America's First Answer to the British Invasion!

The Rascals are back in full glory. Their musicianship and chemistry get better with every show, and the Sunday night was overwhelming. I went three times during the Broadway run. I've NEVER done that before for any band. The atmosphere in the theatre was like old friends getting together for the best party with the greatest band you could imagine. People said, "Forget the Beatles" during the show. I'd have to agree. The Rascals are the best. To say that I'm hooked is an understatement. Wherever, whenever you can get to see The Rascals play, GO! You're in for an incredible night of joy, outstanding music, and feeling great.

I could never understand why, since they were all alive and well, they could not put whatever career differences or misunderstandings they had wih each other behind them and just get together and play. Being a Rascals fan my whole life, seeng them when I was a young girl at the Westbury Music Fair, and seeing them individually throughout the years, this was a treat for me. They were all in fine form: Felix Cavaliere could still sing the hell out of a song, Gene Cornish could rival any good guitarists around, Eddie Brigati could still hit those notes and dance around the stage like he was 20, and Dino, my fave, can still play those drums like nobody's business. Wow! Seats were great,(although the theater was a bit too tight), and my only other complaint was that at times the music and the acoustics were a bit too loud and distorted. But I guess that can't be helped in a venue like that. Overall, really enjoyed it.

LISTENTOTHENARRATIVE
I became hooked on The Rascals the first time I heard and saw them on some Saturday morning TV show that they appeared on around 1966. After that, I saw them live several times in the NY area. I have been telling people (those who have asked anyway, including my wife and kids) that I thought that they were arguably the most underrated band in rock n roll history. I didn't realize that Stevie Van Zandt (and perhaps Bruce Springsteen as well) thought along the same lines. I thought the show was great, loved the "interview" format on the big screen, and the opportunity to finally learn the facts behind the group's roots, history, and demise. Watching them perform live, as around 70-year old guys, and as flawlessly as they seemed to do it, only served to confirm my opinion. The only thing I would have changed about the play was that I thought it would have been more effective if the actors who portrayed them as young men were live on the stage too, and not relegated to the screen. And that they should have performed Midnight Hour, my favorite cover of that song... ;-) I heard they're going to be performing at Jones Beach Theater this Summer. All I can say is, see them while you can.

Seeing all 4 original Rascals together was like going back to my youth. I am a musician and my band Peter and The Infinits appeared with the then, Young Rascals at The Batman Concert at Shea Stadium in 1965. Needless to say it was an amazing experience. The Rascals are the consumate purveyors of Blue Eyed soul. This concert really captures that essence. Felix still sounds great. Although I can certainly understand adding another keyboard and 3 great backup singers, I would have liked to see just the 4 guys do a couple of numbers by themselves like the old days. The songs were great and the band sounded really good. The only 2 negative comments I have are: Eddie's Microphone sounded like a Megaphone and took away from his voice. The microphone on Dino's Bass or Tom Tom was way too boomy and it was louder than the band at times and annoying. These are technical issues that should have been resoloved. That being said: I had a great time, the backdrops were outstandind and added to that 60's Fillmore feel and the comments by the band were great.

Couldn't believe I was watching the 4 original Rascals! I was so mad when missed them back in the day (1966?) when they played at the Matawan Rollerdrome in Jersey. Glad I got the chance to see them. My favorite American 60's band. I play drums ... so watching Dino was a thrill, Felix's voice was stellar, didn't know how cool a guitar player Gene was/is... and Eddie, bouncing around the stage, maracas and tambourines flying all over the place. The footage and story was great. The music rocked and was cool, fun, soulful\u2014GROOVY! Great, great show. PS... I went to high school with Steve Van Zandt. I am sooooo jealous! Go Stevie!

It was a HUGE disappointment. They cannot sing (or dance -- Eddie). It was painful to watch. I was truly embarrassed for them. The "show" was great! It was basically a concert, however they intermixed themselves recounting their story from the early days through their breakup in 1970. It provided a good interlude between songs, which they rocked out like they used to back in the day. The only negative (and it was very minor) was that they used actors to play themselves as young people on film (they did look like them, but it was still lame, although they did have one funny line at the end).

The Rascals after 43 years still have it !!! They are without a doubt , The "YOUNG" Rascals......Amazing how together they sounded, they played and sang their hearts out on Broadway !!! Although the concert, and yes, I do mean CONCERTwas totally awsome...I can't say that it was a show other than being a concert. there was such a big thing about Steven Van Sant writing and making it into a play in which actors played the parts of the Young Rascals and then the real and actual Rascals would play their own music....it was just a few flim clips durring the show of which it was mostly the actual Rascals now. I give Mr. Van Sant the credit of talking the Rascals into preforming together again, but as far as saying that he wrote a play about them is crazy . Most any concert you go to now-a-days has clips or some sort of something else going on behind the performers on a large screen. Not exactly something new. Bottom line : Felix, Dino,Gene, and Eddie are true American rock LEDGENDS ... Thank-You for a GREAT concert !

For all of you hip people who were happening in the 60s - this is the show for you! It's a concert inflected with clips of band members telling their personal stories of the Rascals from the beginning to the end. This is infused with psychedelic backgrounds, actors portraying the band back in the 60s (for only enough time to get the point across), actual photos of the band and THE MUSIC !! So many hits, so much fun to sing along, everyone going back to those fun, carefree, but turbulent times. This show was special since it hasn't been played out. I felt fortunate in being there. They looked and sounded great and we got to meet them after the show. They were very friendly and we got our picture taken with the band and they signed a poster. Thanks to Steve Van Zandt for bringing the iconic Rascals back together in an unforgettable show that proves you're never too old to rock and roll. Dino still rocks, Felix has the most soulful voice, Gene is dead on with his guitar work and Eddie sounds great and doesn't stop for the entire two hour show. And a big round of applause to the three singers backing the Rascals up and to the keyboard and bass player who helped round out the sound of the timeless Rascal's recordings. The Rascals performance at The Richard Rogers Theater 4/26/2013 was no less than a visit to The Fountain of Youth! Their Songs which were Hits during The 1960's Rocked and Rolled us just as they did when their records were released during the 1960's decade. Eddie Brigatti and Felix Cavalierre 's Singing and Music along with The Drumming of Dino Dinelli, and Guitar of Gene Cornish, were as Fresh and Clear as they were when They Rock and Rolled us in their Original Days.I do believe that I and many of the Other Audience members were Dancing in Our seats and the isles. The story of How The Rascals came together and became stars is a history of talent and credentials which is not commonly told. Their Music is "Good Time Music" and A Good time is what this Concert Is

If you are a Rascals fan, you will definitely enjoy the vibe and energy that the band brings out on stage. If you are not familiar with the group it might seem a bit out of date. Felix still has that great R&B voice and rhythm which is only added to by Dino Danelli's polished drum work. Eddie has great energy and excitement but, after all these guys must be pushing 70, the years have taken their toll. Nevertheless the group performs well, they have a great back-up vocal unit so the sound and 28 songs were a great re-living of one of the more enduring bands of the 60's and early 70's. The video biography is quite interesting and tells of a performing journey that brought the group together. All in all it was a fun night and one of the more interesting people watching events in terms of the audience draw (some folks trying awfully hard to take a decade or more off their appearance).

This was essentially a concert by the original group supplemented with some self-promoting commentary displayed on a screen in back of the stage. If you loved the group, it might be worth it. The band itself was actually quite talented and worth hearing. However, outdoor summer venues like Wolftrap and Ravinia book these over-the-hill groups for far less than Broadway.

Great nostalgia hearing those wonderful sounds and the use of videos and humor to tell the story. Glad there were no restrictions on taking pictures. Two suggestions: 1 - Need better balance of the sound of the instruments and the vocals. The Rascals songs are great for their words and the group's voices, not the overpowering sound of drums and guitars. 2 - It's important to end on a high note. Having already played all of their best known hits, when they came back for one final song, it was a B-Side (I didn't even recognize the song). The crowd was standing and ready to go off into a frenzy.....instead everyone stood there not knowing the words and the song was not even one that had a beat to get everyone clapping. Even holding back a song such as Come On Up (good beat for clapping and familiar lyrics) would have been a great send-off. ..........but had a great time and glad I got to see The Rascals again.

Saw the Rascals's Once Upon a Dream in NYC on May 4, 2013. This was a true experience tracing the history and music of a simply amazing band. The show was so entertaining that I have since purchased tickets for their Charleston S.C. concert as well as two of the Atlanta shows. The Rascals sounded great and never missed a beat. The production covered all of their amazing hits as well as several gems from albums produced over the years. A personal high lite was "It;s Wonderful", the opening number. The vocals were spot on. For one special evening you will be transported back to the sixties for one incredible evening of classic rock. The multimedia event features background films and stills that immediately transport the audience back to the sixties. Many thanks to the band for coming back together at a time when this world needs their special music as well as the feeling of peace and hope which comes from experiencing this unique production. I grew up listening to the Rascals special blend of music on A.M. radio in the sixties. A regret I have always lived with was never seeing this amazing band live. Thanks to Stevie Van Zandt, Gene, Dino, Eddie and Felix that "dream " has come true with 'once Upon A Dream"!

Flew all the way from Florida to see the show and it was worth every penny. I'm seeing it again down here. I have been in live with Felix forever and he and the guys were amazing. Not enough adjectives to describe their performance.

Rascals has been one of my favorite groups since the 60's and they did not disappoint me. They played non stop and their voices were amazing. Great story line, background screens and music was everything I had hoped to hear and more. Would recommend their concert to all.

I grew up with the Rascals. Always loved their hits. I could listen to them over and over unlike some other bands that wore on me over time. I had seen Felix a few times and knew he could still sing. I was concerned that I would be disappointed by Eddie since I did not like his performance at the R&R Hall of Fame show. Eddie did not disappoint!! The band received standing ovations throughout the show, particularly for Good Lovin and How Can I Be Sure. When Eddie finished How Can I Be Sure the crowd went wild. He was so appreciative of the audience and kept thanking us. Tears came to my eyes as I was filled with memories as well as happy that Eddie had survived such challenges in his life. You could see that the band was really enjoying performing again. It was also touching when a tape of Eddie thanking Felix for all he did for the band over the years was played, thus putting to bed any hard feelings over the years. I highly recommend that you catch this show wherever it is presented in the near future!

Seeing them live was something I never thought would happen. This show was well worth the wait. All four original members augmented by a bass player, keyboard and 3 back up singers. The stage light show was classic Fillmore but bigger, sharper, slicker. The story of the band was projected onto the entire back wall of the stage by actors, narration, clips and interviews with the members themselves. All of this provided excellent segue between songs but ultimately it was about the performances. These guys are pros and they were at the top of their game. Dino is still the most fun drummer to watch. They were ALL great to watch. This was no lip sync. It was LIVE, energetic and dynamic. The Rascals were always one of my favorite bands. The Beatles may have inspired me to learn to play the guitar but when I formed my first band - we played Rascals music.

The Rascals are still the greatest band of all time! Their unmistakable sound is just amazing. Felix on organ and leading the band was great! Dino has got to be the most underrated drummer of all time. It was great to see Eddie back with the band with his lead vocals. And Gene was really into it with his great guitar rifts. The videos interspersed were pretty cool to learn some of the history of the band. Just an awesome show!

I can't say enough about how impressed I was with the entire show and performance. The sound of the Hammond Organ with the leslie going was amazing. I was 5 when they broke up and was impressed with the vocal power they have after all these years. I am making the trip down to North Charleston, South Carolina just so I can see it again.....BRAVO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This show brings together some of the best music from the late 60s along with beautiful visual graphics and a history lesson about the band and music business during that era. Once Upon A Dream is a concert and broadway show all rolled into one brilliant production! I could compare it to Jersey Boys, with one big difference the original band is actually in the show. The Rascal's music is timeless and the band members vocals and playing abilities are very strong. The quality of their vocals is so good! I would highly recommend seeing Once Upon A Dream if the show comes to your city!

An excellent production...........a reunion concert with a Broadway twist. Their sound has not changed a bit. The history lesson answered many questions and set the stage for the next song introduction. It was a nostalgia trip but with the real people present. Dino Danelli still ranks as one of the best drummers around. Felix on the Hammond B3 and with that voice captured the blue eyed soul of the music. Gene added the sound with constant guitar changes...... And Eddie still belted out some rarely heard songs with so much Rascal integrity. The audience response gave the seal of approval. Thank you Stevie and Maureen.

I thought there was going to be a lot of talking and video, but fortunately the show was 90% music, and the band played great. The only disappointment was Dino has lost some of his chops. Eddie and the rest of the band sounded great. Excellent song selection - it reminded me of how many good songs they had done - lotsa favorite B sides and album tracks. Midnight Hour would have been nice, but overall highly recommended. Jones Beach here I come

Unbelievable catalog of hits -- not just hits but great songs! I enjoyed most of the video presentation. The sound was okay, a bit spotty at times. I was worried about sitting under the balcony overhang due to bass build up and I was right to be. I thought the bass drum was going to go right through me. I'm very happy I got to see them again (I saw them before in 1969!)

I have been a Rascals fan from the beginning. I was thrilled when they reunited for this show. To have all four original band mates get back together was amazing. The staging, production, energy and especially the music were incredible. It was a well conceived production with the non-obtrusive commentary complementing the music. The Rascals were absolutely terrific with a high level of energy and could still sing and perform. Great, great show!

Close your eyes and you're back in their 60's heyday. They have lost nothing but 4 decades of performing fabulous music...their talent is unquestionably fantastic. Felix a superb musician and singer...Dino has to be within the top 5 (maybe 3) drummers of all time...Eddie can still carry his personality in vocals...and Gene is steady at the till. Vastly under-rated except for those who know music.

This show was much more than a concert! I have been fortunate enough to see Felix perform with some other performers, and he is ALWAYS awesome. But I was looking forward to the 4 originals being together. The video taped history and the throwback background to the days of The Fillmore East made it so fun! The music was stellar; the additional musicians were a great addition, as were the background singers. Show was just over 2 hours with no break, I could have listened for another 2 hours at least. The show started it out with the music they covered in some the East Coast clubs and moved to their original music. While I agree with that format, I have to admit I was REALLY hoping for "Midnight Hour" and "Mustang Sally" (maybe there was a royalties issue). But they KILLED just about every song, even ones I wasn't as familiar with. I loved it because it was unique, it didn't try to be more than it was, and it was so Jersey. Jersey Strong!

These four artists commanded the stage and brought the 60's right into the present. Their music is valid today, and they delivered it strongly, holding nothing back. The audience was right with them every step of the way. I especially enjoyed the story-telling and the chronological order of the songs. It was history, retold. Fantastic! I am a fan forever.

Seeing the Rascals brought me back to my high school rock band days. We played most of their music and to see these guys still kickin-it was great. I remember standing outside the Metropol Cafe ( too young to get in) ,peeking in at the go go girls and listening to their inspiring music. Just hearing Eddie and Dino talk about the days at the Metropol made my heart beat faster. Felix did an awesome job ,as always, and watching Gene play the guitar brought back the great memories of "hey, I used to play that too". The show was done well and although the music was just a bit different and the guys struggled a bit in the vocals they did a great job. Thank you Rascals for doing this show. My only regret was that they did not play Mustang Sally and Midnight Hour .......2 of my favorites. A definite show to see by anyone who remembers them . My only regret was that I was not able to stay for the meet and greet to tell them how much their performance meant to me.

Everything you would want in a reunion show. The Rascals reunited singing their hits as well as some obscure songs.......seeing and hearing their story live and on a big screen. Really shows the diversity of their music. Sounding better than ever. Loved the feel of the audience, part show, part concert......singing, clapping, cheering. Also loved that you could take pictures!

The Rascals may have had only a handful of memorable hits, but oh what hits: "Groovin", "Good Lovin", "It's a Beautiful Morning", "People Got to Be Free", "How Can I Be Sure" - all the very essence of the innocence of the late '60s. Now, 43 years after they broke up, the four original members reprised their career at the Richard Rogers Theater. The show, "Once Upon a Dream", a two hour nostalgia trip for baby boomers, was written and co-produced by Steven Van Zandt (of "Sopranos" and Bruce Springsteen fame). The two hours passed quickly, abetted not only by the four Rascals, but by an ingenious use of video projections that, in some instances, brought the crowd back to days of flower power and the Fillmore. In all, a wonderful evening.

In 1966 Bergen County, NJ, two 5th grade girls went to their very first concert. The Young Rascals, performing at The Fox Theater in Hackensack. On Tuesday, April 30, 2013, these two girls bought it full circle and went together to see Once Upon A Dream. Chair danced for 2 full hours. Filled with joy and nostalgia, this was a performance worthy of our 50 year friendship.

Let's get one thing straight. The music was good. All of their hits they played sounded great, especially "Good Lovin'" . "People Got to Be Free" and "I've Been Lonely too Long". Unfortunately for me I did not recognize quite a few of the songs. I felt they should have ended with "Good Lovin'" again for the encore. It is their signature song and it would have been great to hear it one more time. The rest of the show with all the video was kind of weird. I think it would have been better if they actually spoke and told the groups story. It was also good that they had some backup musicians- on bass and keyboard and 3 singers. The show was not as electrifying as I thought it would be, but in this day and age you don't often get to see and hear a group with all original members. After seeing "Jersey Boys" I had goosebumps. It would have helped to have a short intermission.
