My wife and I had a great time at the Ponte Vedra Concert Hall and listening to the fantastic Ricky Skaggs and Kentucky Thunder. Great classic hard driving bluegrass. I love going to this venue. We heard the Civil Wars there before they broke up and saw Sierra Hull perform there.

What a treat to have some of the best Bluegrass has to offer so close to home on a beautiful summer night!! Hopefully, this was only the beginning of a new trend to bring more Bluegrass to the New England area! Del McCoury and Ricky Scaggs were in fine form, and the opening act, The Steel Drivers, were tight and talented! They all delivered the goods to an enthusiastic , packed house.

fantastic show. sound was great for del and ricky, but horrible for steeldrivers, what gives? five stars if not for this item, which was essentially flushed 1/3 of the show and from a really talented band.

Starting with The Steeldrivers, then Del and then Ricky, it was such a great night of Bluegrass music. Long time coming to Hampton Beach. A lot of favorites and they all just made you relax and almost part of the show.

The Steeldrivers were dark, dirty and a very enjoyable listen. Del and the Boys were high energy and very, very enjoyable. Ricky talked about as much as he played. The band seemed less than enthused and the banjo typified all the banjo jokes I've heard throughout the years.

Rickie Skaggs is always top-notch and his band is too, all great muscians. However, the program leaned more toward jazz and included less country bluegrass. While the bass player delivered an excellent solo, it wasn't what I expected at a Rickie Scaggs concert. Sorry Rickie, too much Hornsby & not enough of you. I preferred your Carnegie Hall concert with more gospel and bluegrass. Hope you return to Tiles and give the audience the stuff that speaks from your musical roots.

Great stage presence. Terrific musicianship. Set list was outstanding. Perhaps the most "high energy yet relaxed" event ever. A wonderful evening! Perhaps only half the seats in the hall were occupied; sort of a shame...a larger audience might have resulted in more feedback for the musicians.

The band was tight as they always are, and the sound system was very good, but the volume could have been slightly louder. This was our second experience with Ricky Skaggs and Kentucky Thunder, and they are an extremely talented group of musicians. However, it was difficult to hear some of the soloists because of the size of the venue, and because we felt they weren't turned up enough. The acoustics in the room were very good and the seats we chose were very comfortable, (Row F) as there was an aisle directly in front of us so we could stretch our legs out completely, while getting to the restroom was easily facilitated without having to disturb our neighbors.

Ricky Skaggs and Kentucky Thunder are the most talented group out there, no doubt. Their musical talent is breathtaking! How they can play for two hours straight, at such an up-beat tempo, is wonderful to see (and hear). We get to his show every year, it's always the best of the bluegrass scene, and there's lots of great competition!

We really enjoyed the concert. Ricky and the band were awesome. The vocals and music sounded great. They played hard. I enjoyed the stories Ricky told during the "rest" time. Nice that they came out after the show to sign autographs. The opening band were a group of local boys, EXIT 23. They did well also. Glad I decided to go. Was disappointed that the crowd was so small for such an amazing group of musicians.

What an incredibly talented group of musicians! I have always loved Ricky Skaggs and The Whites, but was not previously familiar with Ry Cooder. The show was incredible! They sang mostly traditional music, and did it extremely well. My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed the show. I would sit through this same show again because it was so good! An amazing group of incredibly talented individuals! The venue was great, too! I felt like we were sitting in someone's living room due to the small theater.

A beautiful tribute to beautiful music. I have waited a VERY long time to hear Ry Cooder, and he was everything that I had imagined and more! Not only did he mesmerize with an assortment of guitars and banjo, but his bass harmonies were so good I cannot believe he does not have roots somewhere in the South! Skaggs is a master of the mandolin and voice, and the White family was the perfect compliment to a moving evening. I'm certain all those legends were having a wonderful time looking down and joining in the music. The final song of the evening with Ryland on the guitar and the others singing in four part harmony was angelic. I'm not sure we will ever see such a tribute to the roots of country music as this one again!

A perfect collaboration. They obviously have tremendous respect for each others' talents and play off each other really well. No surprise that Ry can do it all; he consistently makes everything he touches better. I 'drag' my wife to a lot of different shows, but when the lights came on this night, she said 'I'm really sorry that this one's over' - very high praise!

I heard Ricky Skaggs with Bruce Hornsby a couple of years ago and loved the evening and the music. This tour is as good or better -- true bluegrass, amazing musicians, wonderful voices and a set list that was varied and well built -- but focused on songs written before the 50s.

A lot of bluegrass, not just country. Ricky does not monopolize the show, he gives each member of the band the spotlight for instrument solos more than on one song. We thoroughly enjoyed the evening, as did the couple who sat next to us.

Ricky Skaggs and his Kentucky Thunder never fail to entertain! Kentucky Thunder and Ralph Stanley's Clinch Mountain Boys are the very best in bluegrass! Playing in front of a sold-out crowd, Skaggs and his band played over two hours without an intermission. His musicians are some of the best. He interacts with the audience, tells great stories and often tells you the history of the songs he plays. Ricky Skaggs and his band are extremely talented and it was an amazing evening. Alternating between slow and fast numbers, the tempo was never dull. The Birchmere has been offering great acts for 50 years. The acoustics are good; the seating is first-come, first served so you need to get there early to get a good seat. Food and drink are offered. It is very expensive but on the whole, good. Their menu changes now and then. I miss some of my favorites from the menu, but there is always something you can order, from salads to sandwiches to full entrées. There is a wide selection of drinks. I always attend Ricky Skaggs' concerts when he is in town.

Ricky Skaggs is a great musician and entertainer. He never fails to provide an awesome show. I love bluegrass music, and I was thrilled with all the groups who performed. The two hour show was a masterpiece of Bluegrass music! Ricky Skaggs is at the top of his game, and he has one of the best bands in the business. His violinist and guitarist (Background vocals) were amazing. The sounds and vocals were crystal clear and spot on. The show was over before we knew it. The two song encore was a treat. We loved Ricky's stories of his parents and early Bluegrass music.

The Ricky Skaggs concert was fantastic. I found it so nice to not see tons of glitz & lights that take away from the music, so nice to see & hear raw awesome natural talent of Ricky Skaggs & Kentucky Thunder. Love his bluegrass music and always have. The gospel music was so touching. He certainly let everyone know that God is the center of his life. It was wonderful that he shared that with the crowd. The band is certainly full of real talent. How nice they are able to play with such a real Master.

Ricky Skaggs and his group put on a great show! A combination of talent, good songs and some chat my Skaggs made the evening enjoyable. People refer to me as small, so when I tell you that the seats are not comfortable, you can believe me. The seats are small so you had better like your neighbors, hope they showered and don't drink too much or there isn't a show that can help.

This is the second time we have seen S & KT and will go every time they return. Skaggs is a remarkable entertainer although he did seem a bit scattered when he told stories Friday night. Each of the Kentucky Thunder musicians boggles the mind at the speed of their fingers and sound created. You could not be disappointed. There is not a bad seat in the house, and the food is quite good and served quickly despite the number of people entering at about the same time. Don't know how the kitchen does it.

While the music, especially the faster songs, were right up my alley, I think I enjoyed the storytelling the most. The bluegrass was special but his genuine personality made the night. Ricky Skaggs & Kentucky Thunder are an amazing band and really put on a great show. We were disappointed that an act like Anne Mc Cue was booked along with Ricky Skaggs. Her music offerings were totally unlike something a bluegrass fan would relate to and we didn't really enjoy her styling. It seemed that there were many in the audience that appreciated her music but we were not among this group. We loved being close enough to the stage to see the faces of the musicians which added to the enjoyment of the evening. We thought it would have been better if a local bluegrass band had been selected to open the program

I was very pleased with the concert despite any over rowdiness from the audience though I was not sure where to put requests for songs as many do for Hornsby Concerts. The one thing that was a bit disappointing was that rather than ending with a big number to please the crowd greatly such as the songs "Rainbow's Cadillac" or "Super Freak" the last one was a bit mellow. Finally while I like seeing Mr. Hornsby preforming with others I would like to see him someday do some of his older work and songs such as "harbor Lights" or "Hot House Ball" or any other songs from those albums.

The concert was about what I expected - more Ricky Skaggs and less Bruce Hornsby. My wife and I have seen Bruce about 20 times or so over the years and would have liked to have heard more of his music ... Kentucky Thunder is very talented. Turning Stone is a very nice venue and will go there again for sure. CONS: One song for an encore / 90 minute show is pretty weak in my opinion.

We bought the tickets having seen their Crossroads performance, which was Awesome! We had not been to the the Burnsville venue and thought its size was perfect for an intimate connection with the musicians. Wow, What a show! The acoustics were great, especially the thunder of the string bass; always present, not a muddy mess but rather you could hear the sound of the wood in the body of that big fiddle! And the piano? Experiencing Bruce's effervescent energy and love for his craft brought the other musicians and the house to new heights! If there were no sound (for example only) his smile and the way the music moves him would be infectious in its self. Kentucky Thunder, new to me, all sending our night over the top. The banjo often leading the sonic experience, guitar - some great solos, violin - absolutely tops! Ricky, aaah Ricky! Friends said, "You know their a Bluegrass show, right?" Well, I thought, bring top musicians together in a small setting and magical things are bound to happen. Turns out this was a serious understatement!

I went to see and hear Ricky Skaggs and Kentucky Thunder perform bluegrass. What I seen and heard was a haunted house sounding performance by Bruce Hornsby with a minor contribution by Ricky Skaggs. The piano infusion into pure bluegrass was annoying and dominated the entire show. I wouldn't see this show again if it were free! I will definately not look for any upcoming concerts by Ricky Skaggs.

My husband and I are huge fans of Ricky Skaggs and saw him live many years ago. He is soooo very talented!! The whole group of musicians are extremely talented and did a fantastic job! However, we wished that there would have been a little less instrumental showmanship and more singing of the songs we know so well. It was also impressive that there were no intermissions which made you feel like you got your money's worth!

THIS SHOW WAS THE WORST I HAVE EVER WASTED MY MONEY. I WAS EXPECTING RICKY SKAGGS TO BE THE WONDERFUL PREFORMER THAT HE IS BUT INSTEAD WAS ACCOSTED BY A PIANO RECITAL AND A BRUCE HORNSBY WHO THOUGHT HE WAS FUNNY AND COULD SING AND HE COULD NOT. RICKY SAYS HE HONORS BLL MONROE AND HIS MUSIC BUT THIS SHOW CERTAINLY DID NOT. I THINK IF IT WERE POSSIBLE BILL MONROE WOULD HAVE BEEN ROLLING IN HIS GRAV E. VERY DISAPPOINTED AS I HAD BOUGHT TICKETS 2 OTHER TIMES RICKY WAS IN THIS AREA AND THOUROUGHY ENJOYED EACH OF THESE SHOWS. WHERE DID HE FIND THIS CLOWN TO PREFORM WITH HIM. I VERY MUCH WISH I COULD GET A REFUND FOR THE SHOW. WE COULD NOT STAND THE RACKET OF OVERPOWERNG PIANO ON EACH SONG AND LEFT ABOUT HALF WAY THROUGH THE SHOW AS IT DIDN'T SHOW SIGNS OF IMPROVING.

Besides the fact that these guys are terrific writers/musicians on their own, they tailor their music they play together to each others' strengths! Then they add 6 great musicians from Kentucky Thunder and they create a sound anyone will enjoy!

The musicians were great and had a tight sound. We were very disappointed with the acoustics. The instruments were very loud and we could not hear the vocals. I don't know if the problem was the facility or the sound tech. We came to hear Ricky Skaggs and feel Bruce Hornsby dominated the show.

I've seen Hornsby during "The Range" years but never been to a Bluegrass concert before. These guys played their hearts out-fantastic musicians and the Burnsville Performing Arts Center was a great intimate venue. I'd go see them again.

The pairing of jazz and blue grass was terrific! We are a fan of both those artists. We enjoyed meeting the very approachable Ricky Skaggs and bought his book.

This is by far the best band I've ever heard in live performance. In addition to the stellar performances by Ricky and Bruce, most have likely never heard just how good a fiddle, an acoustic guitar and a banjo can be played - not just fast...but clean and right for the music. So fun to watch Bruce on the piano (best bluegrass piano player in the world, for sure!) make eye contact with Andy Leftwich (fiddle) and Cody Kilby (guitar) as they tossed musical themes back and forth - they had their own line of communication within various numbers...and it was great fun to see their expressions as they "answered" one another. Only drawback was that I could not hear Ricky's mandolin play as clearly as I should have been able to. House equipment? Front of house mixer? That was a disappointment for me as a mandolin player. He deserves to be heard more clearly in live performance.

If you want to see some amazing accoustic music Ricky Skaggs and Bruce Hornsby should do it for you. They played for over two hours at the Potawatomi Casino and barely scratched the surface of the songs that could have been rendered. The Kentucky Thunder band are all EXCELLENT and this would be one opportunity that you wouldn't want to miss if this combination came to a venue near you. Outstanding entertainment!

What a wonderful blend of traditional bluegrass and pop. Loved it. And the country version of Super Freak was so much fun.

Pianos in bluegrass are rare but not unheard of. Bill Monroe had vibes, accordion, and electric guitar at rare times. Bruce lends his ability to play extended solos exploring the melody with harmonic variations and rhythm. It's a level of harmony that is not a part of traditional bluegrass. In fact, Ricky's mentor, Bill Monroe, may have used his normal expression, "It ain't no part of nothin." If Avett Bros can be grunge grass and be successful, why not? Ricky and his band are virtuosos. It works.

One of the 10 best concerts I have been to in my lifetime of going to many concerts. "Tight" does not come close to expressing this party of expert musicians. Explosive, ferocious, musical and beautiful. Dynamic in every sense. Bruce Hornsby is a musical genius, a chameleon, and his imprint on this stage was outstanding. Not to be missed, I am so glad I didn't.

It's a rare treat to see two masters of their craft perform together, but with Ricky Skaggs and Bruce Hornsby it's more than that when they come together. There is a level of joy in their playing with each other, of mutual respect for each other's talents, an obviously deep friendship with each other (revealed especially in the stories in between songs) that takes the event to another level of energy and truly enrolls the listener. There were 5 standing ovations during this concert, each of them very well-deserved. Skaggs' back up band is always phenomenal and the incredible playing from all fronts for a couple hours was truly memorable. I brought with me a long time studio musician, skilled at his craft as well, who was unfamiliar with Ricky Skaggs and bluegrass music (he knew Bruce Hornsby). He was skeptical going in and a huge fan of both leaving...we talked about how the blending of the piano with the acoustic instruments makes for something truly unique in sound and style. I would recommend this show to anyone...all ages...especially those that appreciate good musicianship!

The absolute BEST concert I've been to in years. They did a LONG encore and we still could have asked for more. These guys are the best in their BIZ, no doubt. Long live BLUEGRASS as played by Skaggs and Hornsby. And the rest of the band was worth a Grammy.

The problem is Bruce Hornsby. Ricky Scaggs was excellent but there was too much Bruce Hornsby in this show. I do not think that a piano works with Bluegrass. Bruce Hornsby hogged the limelight and when he let Ricky Scaggs get on with it the show improved significantly.

This was more like a Ricky Skaggs bluegrass concert with one Bruce Hornsby song thrown in as a bone. (The Way it Is). My wife and I were hoping to hear some Bruce Hornsby songs that we had heard before. He has written songs for Don Henley, Huey Lewis, and albums with the Range and we were disappointed that we didn't hear ANY of them. But.....the concert was outstanding. All 8 musicians were very talented and on their game. It was very entertaining, and the banjo, mandolin, guitar, piano, and standup bass was all good.

Ricky Skaggs is quite simple the best Bluegrass musician that has ever been. Bill Monroe may have invented it ... but Ricky Skaggs & Kentucky Thunder have taken Bluegrass to a whole new level. If you only see one Bluegrass show in your lifetime it has to be Ricky Skaggs. The musicianship is unparalleled and they never disappoint. This is high octane Bluegrass people!

The venue had a problem with the main arena and moved the event to a side ballroom. Lucky for us!. The smaller ballroom made it a more intimate concert and felt more like a jam session than a concert....just what I like especially for the bluegrass fan. Each group brought their A game and left nothing but a smile on everyone's face. There were a few technical issues throughout the night but nothing that stopped the performers or the crowd from enjoying themselves. What a priviledge it was to not only see Ricky Skaggs in person, but he also shared the stage with Dr. Ralph Stanley, Ralph II, and grandson Nathan Stanley with the Clinch Mountain Boys. Dr Ralph had just recently turned 88 years young making him the oldest living member of the Grand Ole Opry. What an honor to hear him sing and even more so to meet all the groups after the show and between sets. Each one, including Ricky sat for autographs and pics after their sets and due to small venue, it felt like meeting them in you own home. Each one was gracious and kind and willing to actually carry on a conversation, not just sign and leave. Acknowledging the fans......that is what makes bluegrass special. Not just a love of the music, but a respect that is reciprocated from fan to artist.

As always, Ricky Skaggs lit up the place with an evening of fine music. The smaller, intimate Uptown Ballroom was also a treat. My only disappointment was paying for reserved seats, front and center, only to arrive and discover a general admission VIP area with tables. My seats were still at the front, just not reserved nor center stage. We wound up on the right end of the stage.
